Dears,
I require help from you. My galaxy note has stock ROM and is very laggy.
PDA:KL3/PHONE:KL1/CSC:KL1(INU).
I read in some threads that with KL7 firmware, lag disappears completely.
i have few questions.
1. I want stock ROM and when i try to connect with kies, it says 'this is the latest firmware'. i bought this from India and Im currently in saudi arabia.
2.where will i get the STOCK ROM for KL7 and how to put in my note?
3. Will this 'unofficial' way clean up my data?or will my apps and setting remain as it is after update.
appreciate your replies.

1.This is latest ROM for India, thats why kies says.(you have purchased from india)
2. Read My signature
3.It has no relation with way you are updating, Dont select 'Re-partition' option while you flashing with Odin, so you will not lose data, but it is always advisable to backup first.
Now another thing, if you install KL7 by odin, you will not able to Root it later. If you want Rooted KL7, you need this
- Get ROOT + CWM in present ROM (read My signature)
- Install Mobile Odin Pro from market
- Now download Stock firmware, as i advised you earlier, n Flash your device with Mobile Odin Pro, with ' ever Root' option enable
thanku buddy
im sorry. but i downloaded a file N7000XXKL7_N7000OXAKL7_N7000XXKL7_HOME.tar.md5. now i see 4 options in ODIN: bootloader/phone/csc/pda. now where i should i associate this field.???
also since my csc is INU and this seems DBT is there anything should i b doing??? . pls gime detailed steps
just to select PDA, as you seen in guide.
got it right.upgraded to kl7. thank you dr.
I am confused. This is the latest firmware, but it is still carrier specific, correct?
Is there a firmware that is 'pure samsung galaxy note' which hasn't been manipulated by the carriers?
I guess KL8 is the latest firmware.

Okey, first of all, I'm a complete noob when it comes to this, so I need some help.
After long browsing I was able to root my Samsung Galaxy.
Now I want to update my Galaxy from 2.2 to Gingerbread.
Since I rooted my Galaxy it won't connect to Kies anymore, so I guess Kies won't work.
I have an Samsung Galaxy S I9000,
FROXO.XWJPA,
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
Is it possible to update, if yes, how?
Thanks
anyone? :l
Go to samfirmwares.com for the latest firmware
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
so I just have to update firmware and I'll have Gingerbread?

Download a FW from Samfirmware, the latest is I9000XXJVR (Its 2.3.4), then via Odin you flash a 3 file's, its CODE, MODEM and CSC, and pit file and tick re-partition
Xooley,
I'm new on the forums so cant post any links but if you search for "how to use Odin" then it's really not that difficult.
The biggest decision you have is whether to stick with a "stock" copy of firmware i.e released by the manufacturer or install one of the modded versions from the hard working developers on XDA.
if you have a rooted phone then this wouldn't normally prevent KIES from working, so it might be that your carrier (orange?) hasn't release a Gingerbread version yet.
You can get most stock roms from samfirmwares as stated above. If you've never installed a rom before, make sure you read about it (checked youtube) to see if there are any problems with the one that you have chosen.
best of luck
Hi guys
As the title states I'm looking to update my wifes phone.
Firstly Im not sure if there is supposed to be a search for update feature like on my Sensation but i cant find one on the phone.
Its still on 2.1 update 1 Eclair DVJH3
Can someone be kind enough to tell me how/where i should look to update the firmware to something more current?
Do i have to root and installed one of the ROMs here or can i update to GB somehow?
Many thanks

Looks like you are on Telstra??
If you are still on the stock ROM and want to stay on stock ROM just use Samsung Kies. No rooting required and does not void warranty

Hi Lexrsk
Yes its a Telstra branded phone.
It doesnt really matter if i put a custom ROM on it as work will give her a new phone if i stuff it up, no questions asked. Its just so slow at the moment.
She was set up on the cloud through work and one thing the cloud people asked her when trying to set up her email on the phone was "Is it a telstra phone?"
Im not sure if they use some sort of telstra program on the phone to assist with setting up email on her phone for use via the cloud. So i dont know if installing a new ROM could screw this up. Any ideas on this?
Thanks again
Hi Lex,
Just wanted to let you know I updated the phone using Kies. Downloads kept crashing but finally got it updated to Gingerbread from Eclair.
Phone was taking over 4mins to start up but now taking less than 50sec also working alot smoother.
Thanks again for the info. I had no idea about that software.
I've being in the same boat, but Kies tells me that my can't be updated the like the rest of the SGS's. Kies can be more of a pain at times.

I'd like to second that! There doesnt appear to be any repository containnig the stock SGS telstra branded firmware (all links I have found have expired). I lost my backup with a hard drive corruption and have been looking for this for a while. Much appreciated if you would share
If you're upgrading from 2.1 to 2.3, a new bootloader has to be flashed as well

Hi all.
Finally got a Note and love it, but while I wait for official ICS here in the UK, I'd like to keep stock 2.3.6 GB but safely root it.
There's so much info here, it makes me a bit nervous in-case I pick the wrong method.
I have this:

and would like to know what method I should use to root.
Thanks

Use Dr. Ketan's method!
Go here and follow the instruction for your Rom.
Edit: Just saw your picture, you have LA4 not LA6 on your device, that means that you can flash a Direct Rootable Rom!
Thanks for the reply but I'm a bit confused, my Note shows Build: GINGERBREAD XXLA6 as does the Kernel, so are you saying that it's the Baseband version : N7000XXLA4 that I should be paying attention to?
Also according to Kies it's PDA:LA6 / PHONE LA4 / CSC LA1 (XEU)
yes la4 is the rom version you are using, you will need to downgrade to be able to root
which rom do you suggest I downgrade to and still allow update via Kies?
Will the downgrade via Odin up my flash counter and give me the triangle?

go look at the root thread, there is a link for kj1, which is non wipe rom so all your settings will stay in tact
no it wont give you the triangle because it is a stock rom

I bought the Galaxy Note N7000 yesterday and I have exactly the same android-, baseband-, kernel version and build number. The only difference is I'm from the Netherlands and using Vodafone.
Now I've been looking for a way to root it, but I also wondered which XXLA# I should use for it.. I saw the reply of the downgrade (ofcourse) but I am wondering: those r for Poland and Germany... Or doesn't that matter and I can root it anyway w/o bricking the phone?
Post november roms are difficult to root, best optuon is to go to pre december 2011 rom
Or go to ICS and use cwm. Zip and superuser. Zip method

Well yeah, I get that point, but the thing is: I'm kinda noob with this. To be honest: my roommates rooted my galaxy s for me, but they did it so fast that I didn't get half of what they did..
My eventual goal is to learn how to root a smartphone and upgrade mine to android ics. My current android version is an unrooted stock 2.3.6 and I wanna go for a rooted ICS, but I already start to wonder now if I can upgrade my phone to rooted ICS immediately from the 2.3.6... Could u guide me a little in this?
By the way: sorry if I ask some pretty obvious questions that might have already been answered elsewhere on the forum, but I have been looking all over the forum and just don't know which info I should use from which posts anymore..
If you want ics then it is very easy.
First flash ics and then root it., ics is directly rootable.
I recommend first hard reset on gb rom for clean installation.
All informatikn regarding ics update n root, u can find on first link on my signature.

Well, I thought the safest way to get me ICS on the phone was through updating with Samsung Kies. After this I was planning to put CWM in the folder sdcard/external_sd and Busybox on the internal sd, but...
I got it updated now, but I lost the folder external_sd.. I can't create a new folder with this name either.. I don't actually have an external SD card, but if I remember it well, I didn't need it either. I have seen the folder external_sd for sure in there..
Edit: Bought an external sd card and did the root like u said, but without flashing back to GB. It worked! Thanks alot for the clear walkthrough! Hail dr. Ketan!
Hello,
I'm currently living in Chile and apparently Chile released the version 4.0.4. I tried updating my android version through kies and the phone updater and no luck :/ My phone is rooted and the kernel is [email protected]#2. I'm not sure if the inability to update is due to the fact I used a kernel from another country other than Chile (I think I used an Indian Kernel). Is there a way I can go back to the my original kernel and unroot to update normally? I also have the urge to unroot my phone since my music player has been crashing too often and feel that the problem originates from the rooting.
Note: I am a very new user and I don't know most, if not all, terms such as flashing.
Help is very much appreciated,
-Kathy
Why don't you directly update it from here ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Download the rom and flash it via mobile odin pro or pc odin As simple as that
Thank You! But...
Is there a way I can unroot my phone? Like going back to how I got my phone? Why isn't my phone able to update normally?

When you flash a rom using pc odin,u will be unrooted
Download the rom from above given thread and flash it using pc odin, you will be automatically unrooted
U cant possibly update due to a different version of kernel

When I flash my phone do I need a Pit file? Will this wipe all my music, apps, contacts, etc...? If I use a original chilean rom then my phone will be unrooted right?
Sorry for asking so many questions >.<

You don't need PIT files. Just Select rom file under PDA tab. No need to change any option. Just Start Flash.
And it will not erase your data on sdcard (internal or external)
Cheers
You need to backup your contacts, msgs and apps
Hope I am not to late, would be best to make efs backup before proceding, so you can always return to chili working rom. Its a backup of e.g. imei which is not easy to recover if accidentally lost.
How see toolbox thread dr ketan in general section. You need root for that. Save in multiple locations

Hello,
i got an rootet Note with CWM v3.0
My software version is 2.3.6, my band is XXKK5, bought in Austria.
I would like to do an update, my phone says there is no update, so i would choose manually.
I have not much knowledge about mobiles, so always read here (same when i did the root)
But as more i read, the more confused i get.
I dont know what file to choose, that fits with my baseband, i read this is important.
My noobish idea was, i could find a file and do the update with CWM to keep root.
Anyway, i could do the root again after the update, i think.
Can you please tell me what to do and point to me where to start?

If you are already rooted, use mobile Odin if you are willing to flash an stock firmware. You can choose any of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18978158
Or get one from www.sammobile.com
In Dr. Ketans thread you have how to flash using mobile Odin. Take into consideration that if you are going to flash a 4.0.x firmware you also will need to flash a safe kernel to avoid the brick bug.
