[EOL] LG Revolution dead. Officially - LG Revolution

So after 7 months of being out. Official Verizon support for the LG Revolution is coming to an end.
So what are your thoughts on Verizon's ever so clear "6 month" life span?

Oh I'm sure support will continue here but this move even further confirms that there will be no "official" ICS for us.

Nah. Staying right here in a community that I love. I'll upgrade when I'm eligible but I'll still have my Revo.

EOL does not mean end of support from Verizon for this phone. They will continue to support it as long as you have a valid warranty.
EOL does mean that you will not be to walk into the Verizon store and purchase one. Once supplies run out that is it. You will still be able to buy refurb units and will receive them was warranty replacements for defective phones as long as inventory holds, which is a long time. In the Droid Eris community people got warranty refurb replacements over a year after EOL.
This may even drop the price on the unit so Verizon can clear their inventory, enlarging this community.

The Eris received several bug fix updates after EOL as I recall. EOL simply means the phone is no longer going to be for sale. I do agree however you will not see any OS upgrades.
This was also a tip and has of yet to be officially announced by Verizon.

There down to $99.00 on Verizon's website.

Wow, a phone that is obsolete in less than a year!
My last phone ran perfectly for over 4 years. That would be my expectation for the Revo.

You can get one for free through newegg. Verizon has been at me about upgrading recently. They say that my primary line is up for an upgrade. My wife should be up for one before me and she said her's isn't up till April.
Is the Revo a good 4G phone? It looks like it is very similar to my DINC minus the 8MP camera.

I would say it is an average phone. If I were up for renewal I would consider something newer however. Remember when getting your phone that it may need to last you 2 years. While there are many dedicated Revo owners here, you will find many that dumped the phone at first chance as well. I would personally go for a nexus, or one of the new dual core phones from Moto or HTC. While dual core will not serve you much right now... in a year from now, who knows.
In the end though it is what you can afford, like, and feel comfortable with.

From what I've read, ice cream sandwich makes use of multi core CPU's. So having a dual core phone like the Nexus would be advantageous.

Droid Bionic cancelled?

I don’t know if it’s true but the guy at the Verizon store told me he heard the Bionic was being canceled and they were coming out with a better version with a 12MP cam, 1 GIG Ram, etc and it would be out in September now.
Don’t know if it’s true or old news.
That is the current rumor. The Bionic is being replaced with the Targa. No official confirmation from Moto or Verizon yet.
If and when confirmed I will need to buy an interim device from Craigslist to hold me over until the release of the new batch of dual core 4G phones are released.

I wish there were more information about time lines. I am eligible for upgrade now. Nothing looks good at this point if this gets canceled. The Charge is single core ($300, WTF!), the Revolution rumors are going back and forth (dual/single core), the X2 doesn't have 4G, the Thunderdolt has a tiny battery and is a single core device... Targa in September? My DInc won't last that long. I might just upgrade to the DX on a one year contract. (Yes, I know the one year contract is unavailable to the masses...)
I called verizon and I'm not sure which rep you talked to, but they not only told me the rumor wasn't true, but they said reps shouldn't ever give a rumor like that unless it's confirmed. Then this popped up... http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and-Wireless/Motorola-Droid-Bionic-Delayed-as-iPhone-5-Looms-229162/
It's delayed no canned.
this is great news, i wasn't looking forward to eating the 600 bionic cases i received 2 weeks ago! well great news would be a may release date, but this is at least good news.

Unfortunately you may not be out of the woods yet. In addition to "enhancements" the rumor mill also suggests an updated form factor.

this is true.
I bought a DInc from Craigslist. I have rooted and loaded CM7.0.2.1. It's running smooth with all day battery life on stock battery with moderate use, about 12 hours with 20% of battery left. This includes about 4 hours of Pandora use on 3G.
I can wait for the new Bionic now.

The Bionic has been removed from the Motorola web site
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Home
Motorola has removed the Droid Bionic from their web site. Searching on the site will only lead you to the Mobile Phone Support site.
Hope to see the new Droid Bionic site up in the near future.
I was at the Verizon store today, and inquired about the Bionic. The guy there said it was being postponed because they're removing the dual core processor & going with single core, due to massive overheating that they couldn't find a workaround for.

Though there was no specific information given about the changes being made other than the form factor, I highly doubt they'd do that. It's been the phone every is zeroed in on because of the Tegra 2 along side 4G.
Motorola's DROID BIONIC LTE smartphone, first announced at this year's International Consumer Electronics Show, will launch this summer with Verizon Wireless. Based on compelling feedback since the show, we are incorporating several enhancements to make this an even better consumer experience. This includes expanded features, functionality and an improved form factor.

Source: http://mediacenter.motorola.com/Fact-Sheets/Motorola-DROID-BIONIC-Fact-Sheet-353a.aspx
I highly their idea of an enhancement is a downgrade. The "Improved form factor" could mean they're using a different phone entirey(same features, obviously and hopefully more or "enhancements" wouldn't be the right word) because of issues they were having, as some have thought to have been heat issues before. There have been others saying that it resembled the HTC Thunderbolt too closely, which is true in a lot of ways, but nobody but the people working on the phone really know anything for sure. All we can do is speculate.
Motorola isn't going to drop to a single core processor. It'd be a bad move on their part to release a phone with such similar specs to, both, the Thunderbolt and Charge, which are both already out there. We all wanted the Bionic because it would blow the other Verizon phones out of the water in comparison.
On a personal note... they need to hurry up and get the Bionic out there so I can upgrade.. lol My Droid 1 is still nice and all, but my physical keyboard is done for... letters separated and glue not holding.. letters overlapping, making it hard to type without constantly pushing them back... lol I refuse to settle for less than upgrading to a phone of the Bionic's specs or better. A phone that is overkill now is a phone that'll still be decent when I upgrade again, is the way I look at it.
I ramble... sorry.. lol
This is true. It has been scraped for a better Moto Device. This device is to be released during the summer. So far they do not have alot of specs on it. I know a VZW employee and he could not give me a name of the Moto 4G device that is coming out but its this summer.
Well thats pretty dissapointing i was very much looking forward to atleast getting my hands on one, hopefully Motorola releases something better this summer
Wow I almost waited for the Bionic when I bought my Atrix because I was tired of AT&T. Then they kept pushing the bionic out and I finally caved and got the Atrix. By September I will be 1/3 of the way through my contract and maybe when this contract is up Verizon will have one I want. Sorry to hear it may be canceled.
one thing every one here seems to need to learn... PEOPLE AT THE VZW STORE ARE ****ING SALESMEN!
meaning, they will tell you whever lies they think you want to hear to try to get you to buy a new phone THAT DAY.
just saying they are always lieing to you to get sales... i see it happen all day at work. dont be a sucker. you're getter off geting info from sites liek this than sales associates.
There will still be a Droid Bionic, it just won't be quite what it was originally supposed to be. It will need a different case than what was originally going to need, so if you already bought cases, you will be out of luck. The problem is that other companies (Samsung) have announced better phones, with better screen since Motorola announced the Bionic. The Dual 1.2ghz is better than what Motorola had announced so they have to go back and fix that. After the long wait, they don't want to come out just to be second best.
What is this new form factor that is alluded to? I hope that it is shaped like the Atrix honestly.

Bionic vs vigor

How is the bionic treating u guy's ....im up in the air with this... cause i love my tbolt..but really wanted the bionic...but at the time it wasnt out so i got the tbolt cause i wanted to be grandfathered in the unlimited data plan...but now the bionic is out im thinking about it...but also rumors about the htc vigor a.k.a incredible HD is said to be out soon. So now im in a dilema..lmao.. I know the only difference between the 2 is generally is diffrent UI, diffrent screens and 1 ghz dual core and other has 1.5 dual core....But would like other ppl input. I know it's more on what's my personal preference, but would like some of u guy's input....... Thanks in advance

I updated to the bionic from a thunderbolt and am very happy. I actually like the bionic screen better than the thunderbolts and the battery is
A little better. I really like the fact that I can see the display outside perfect. I am not sure if a am blind but I love the display and do not know why people complain about it. I bought the bionic thinking I would return it because I wanted the prime. I decided to keep it because it was the first phone I could use outside and see the display.
For what it is worth I will also be getting the prime when it comes out. I want to try it out and if I like it better the the bionic I will keep it.

The prime isn't coming to VZW and there's no official release date for the vigor. Get the bionic. You won't b disAppointed and you'll never keep up with technology anyway. Lol.
Some quad core 1080p display phone would drop right after you get the Vigor.

I endorse most of this comment. You're asking us to compare a phone that is out to one that isn't. There is always going to be the next big thing...
I'd say it boils down to this- do you like HTC/sense or Moto/blur more? There is your answer.

I got a Bionic to replace an ailing Charge with the intent to do exactly what you're describing and I very well may end up keeping it. I can't remember the last time I bought a phone and immediately formed the impression that this was a device that just might last the term of my contract.
I am coming from droid incredible.
I am planning to return my bionic right before the return window is up and wait for the Vigor.
I miss HTC sense wayyyy to much. I also dont like how when you pinch to zoom it doesnt auto fill text in the new window it just zooms in.
I can see diaplay outside which is nice but motorola just isnt for me. The zumocast hasnt worked so i cant comment about that except it doesnt work.
I think i was spoiled with HTC and Sense and dont like any other ui though.

Coming from a tbolt it has been great. Screen, battery, & quality (of phone) are are better on bionic. Loved my D1, bolt failed me so was given bionic. I love that the extended battery doesn't add 3 lbs to phone. I'd love to get prime if/when that comes out for VZW, but who knows what will be out around christmas.

I think the vigor will be the better phone, depends on how good the battery is. Everyone knows htc and their batteries.
buy it at bestbuy instead. they got a 30 day policy that aligns with verizon's 30 day cancellation
I love my bionic. Its the best phone i ever had. Very satisfied with it had a facinate before bionic
I love my Bionic.. I've used alot of droid phones but all were Motorola so I guess my opinion might be a bit biased but my brother likes HTC phones and I've used his here and there and I prefer Motorolas build quality over anything and the Bionic is fast and has good battery life... this may be the first phone to last the term of my contract ..

If you buy it from Costco, you get 14 days to back out of the Verizon service (I might be wrong on this, could be 30), but 90 days to exchange the phone. I bought a Charge on July 3rd, exchanged it a few days later because I thought it was defective (turns out it just has a ****ty radio), and then exchanged it again for the Bionic a couple of weeks after it came out.

No More Android, No More Revo

I was reading on one of the threads about how you can request to get a different replacement phone. Today, that is what I did. I have had this replacement revo for four days and it was starting to power cycle and the phone was real sluggish. I call tech support and told them that I don't want an android phone anymore because this is my nineth android phone in one year. I asked for a white 16g iPhone 4 and they said no problem. It is coming tomorrow. Now I am a happy Verizon customer.

Sounds like someone didn't know how to use their Android properly.
Just because the revo is bad doesn't mean all android phones are bad.
I just hate the idea of being locked into an iPhone, well I guess you can jailbreak it, but can you actually rom it and still get the full functionality out of it or close to it?

From what I heard it actually kills battery faster. If he wasn't satisfied with Android he might as well go to iOS since it's much more simpler.
True. I'm just glad I'm getting rid of my revo for a bionic, who cares if its the first dual-core, its a hell of a lot better than my revo lol.
I have had 4 android phones, and got my wife her first. I told her in a week she will love it, in two she will want to rom it.
Samsung Moment, Samsung Transform, HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy, LG Rev, Pantech Crossover eh, 6 I was close.
Samsung sucked. The Moment would stall 5 times a day we called it the arrow of death. They gave me a Transform to replace it, which was a step down in phone. I said no thanks. Sprint sucks.
Samsung Galaxy was cool, but I had no need for that size of a screen, honestly that big size made me feel lacking in other areas, lol. So I got the Desire, which was awesome. But USC didn't have 3g in the LOU, so I got rid of it and came to Verizon.
The LG was the best phone I had ever had, it was blazing fast, easy to root, idiot proof, thanks to MT and Cubed for some help early on with MD5 mismatch issue. But I love Android, and have never had an issue with the platform. I have had issues with the phones, and carriers, but I am not going to take it out on the platform.
The Crossover is my wife's from ATT. Neat little phone with a full qwerty, for which I was instantly told not to brick it. You brick a phone once, and the wife doesn't let you hear the end of it. Jeez.

Right now, technologically, there isn't much of a draw as their phones are a little behind the techno-curve, however, with the introduction of W8, I believe this may spark development cross-platform between tablets and phones on W8, and I believe their lines of phones will continue to improve. (the integration with XBL is nice if you own one of those as well)
The compatibility with common Office products is not going to be bested, and the development for them should be significantly easier (in theory). They are also not as big as Apple in filtering what you can and cannot have access to. Apple comes with the selling of ones soul to their ecosystem. Basically agreeing that iTunes and iBooks (and all the DRM that comes with all their products) will become your way of life. Trying to depart from this life will cause you to lose what you have accumulated.
And as someone stated before: It's not Apple (an evil patent troll that sues everyone and everything in hopes that in the end, "there can be only one.")
Just remember: I said IF I were to move away from Android - that doesn't mean "WHEN."

Verizon's current WP7 offering sucks balls. It is under powered and small. However there are some nice WP7 phones. ATT has a nice phone or 2, HD7s and the titan.
Verizons trophy, while sucking balls, is a very smooth phone.
So I got the skyrocket. I wanted to wait for the Sony Ion, but all signs were pointing to a June release. There are a ton of phones coming out in the next few months man, crazy stuff. Htc Titan 2 will have a 16 mp camera. Gawd dang. The Sony will have 12, and quad cores, and dual cores oh my. Iphone has got to be limping right out of the gate this fall. I don't get the popularity.

Whatever you do though, don't base judgements just on megapixels alone. Megapixels mean nothing with a crappy lens. Just look at the articles on Droid-Life regarding the HTC One (or whatever it is).

I don't know how power cycling is my fault. The Droid X sucked balls. I went through four Droid X's last summer because of the power cycling and other bull**** issues. When I got the Revo it ****ed up during the gingerbread update. I guess that was my fault too. I borrowed my sister's HTC Incredible, that phone was power cycled really bad. Wait maybe I didn't know how to use that piece of **** either. Idk. The fact is that I used 3 different types of android phones and the phones didn't work properly. Go **** yourself!

That's why people with simple minds don't belong with Android unless they learn to figure it out.

microsoft is just as bad as apple with patent trolling...theyve forced htc, samsung, and others to actually PAY THEM for each device sold with android on it
my dream is a world where microsoft (and apple) crash and burn and linux/android reign supreme...but yeah a pipedream

Spoke with VZW Today about ICS and Bionic

Called VZW today to replace my Bionic due to a Charging issue with the device. After informing (Tech Support Rep) aka the department that issues out replacement phones that my Bionic once plugged onto the charger it discharges. in order to get the battery to charge i have to do a "battery pull" at least twice. Last week I went into a VZW store thinking it was my extended battery had it replaced for a new one and still the same issue persist. After explaining this the Rep shipped out a replacement. He seemed pretty cool through out the conversation so I went ahead and asked about the Bionic and Android 4.0 and how upset I was that last week I read a post online that the list of Verizon phones to get ICS and the Bionic wasn't on that list mind you I also have a Xoom LTE so I threw that out there too!! so then he said hold on let me look, he didn't place me on hold i could hear him typing away i guess looking for the info on his end and he confirmed that the Bionic will be getting ICS indeed and so will the Xoom LTE be he didn't say when. let's see how much of this is true.......I wish i had something more solid to give you guys I tried!!!!!!
Well there is a soak test going on

No worries. I didn't want to start a new thread, since yours kinda is along the same lines.
Are there any BIONIC users left? This forum is kinda slow. The droid x2 forum has more chatter going on than we do lol

that's embarrassing but unfortunately not surprising. so many developers have jumped ship because the Bionic was such a disappointment. Then a month later, the Razr was released. I've said it before and I'll say it again. VZW and MOTO screwed all of us who waited for the delayed release of the Bionic. Now they are screwing us over again. The next update will probably be .904 (not ICS). the current status for ICS is still in "Evaluation and Planning".
The sad part is that MOTO still makes the best phones. HTC never did it for me and I never liked Samsung. At the moment, the RAZR MAXX is the way to go. But even they aren't sure when to expect ICS. So for now, we wait for ICS and hope that some developers come back.
CR
Ehh your right out forums are dead ill try to hop on more. Maybe one day I will make a full post about it, but man, waiting for the Bionic since it was announced in january, then just to have the RAZR released right after it? A kick in the ass indeed.....

Lol well I bought the DROID X2 shortly after it came out, only to have the Bionic drop a few months later. After going through 5 replacements I bought the Bionic on CL since VZW wouldn't give me an early upgrade, only offered me a Dinc2 which I declined.
I probably won't buy another Moto product on VZW again unless they get their stuff straight.

Not really much left to say unless you want to complain [again] about the locked bootloader, lack of stable ICS and disappearance of devs. I've done all the groaning I can on this phone. After buying two, I'll get anything but Moto when it's time for an upgrade. They just don't appreciate customers.
Whoops -- more whining!

As a follow up to how much I love to hate on MOTO and VZW for a lot of what they have done, I still would not switch from either company. Before the Bionic, I had a Droid X for a year and loved every minute of it. I never had any issues (I wasn't rooting and messing around at that point). The reason I got into the rooting/ROM side of things was because the Bionic had so much bloatware and such terrible battery life that I hoped most could be fixed with a new ROM. On both fronts, yes, Liberty did miracles. But even with the extended battery, my expectations of the phone's performance have not been entirely met. In some light messing around with a friend's RAZR MAXX during the last couple of months, I have found that it is more similar to the X than the Bionic; lighter on the bloatware and heavier on the performance. MOTO also has all the accessories that HTC and Samsung don't. With both the X and the Bionic, the navigation is stellar. I use the windshield mount almost everyday which correct me if I'm wrong, is not offered by the other companies. I have also heard that Samsung's, and seen that HTC's phones do not have a reliable GPS. Finally, with Google's acquisition of MOTO Mobility nearing completion, I would hope that the developers at Google will work to streamline BLUR in the near future.
I totally agree with you CR

I received the update to participate in the soak test yesterday. They have not pushed the test out yet as of 11:30 am CST..
This is all fine and dandy to wish for but realize this Droid Bionic, Love It! is soon to leave Verizon phone lineup due to its shortness of inventory and all the wonderful fascinating new devices that are out or coming...Do you really think the Evil Empire will actually give a new O/S to what they call an outdated device! Its just not good financial business to them! And how many times before have they "changed their minds" due to their financial gains, oh, but only to better our customer experience!

My inquiry to LG about ICS for the P925

I sent an email to LG asking for more information and a possibly ETA. Here is the reply I got this morning.
07/08/2012
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics
Hello Chris
Unfortunately at this time there is no upcoming update for the LGP925. It has been announced that only the LGP930/935 will be receiving the ICS update.
Thank you for choosing LG

Enjoy the read.... I know I will never again buy LG. From now on my phones will have to say Google on the back for me to consider it.
Saddest thing I've read all day.
Let's hope this is just a misinformed employee.
Besides, maybe the P925 won't get it, but if the P920 does, than it can be easily ported.

I agree. I'm hoping for some ICS love for this phone even if it is a port.

I dont care if they just rerelease gingerbread, as long as there are no ghost calls. LG GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME!!!
I ditched my Thrill almost two weeks ago for a One X. I would of still had it if it wasn't a free upgrade. Anyway, the features of my One X is nice. Only thing I miss about my Thrill is the HDMI port and SD slot. Gave it to my 10 year old son. Ill be taking his upgrade for the next Nexus.

I also ditched the Thrill.. Sold mine on Craigslist for 200 dollars and then dropped another 180 on the Galaxy Nexus... I don't really like Samsung or the way they build phones but after dealing with LG and their runaround bull crap I'm really looking forward to having a phone receiving support straight from Google. Its too bad LG's support sucks so bad because its was a really nice phone aside from the ghost call issue and the lack of updates.
