[Q] PDA.TAR File needed ro Fix the Recovery - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi can one send a download link or file PDA.tar file from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439.
Im trying to fix 3 Button combo for my Captivate currently on Stock Froyo. I cant get my phone in recovery mode(I did change the original Recovery file with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213) to fix the 3e Recovery Modded w/ No Verification. but after this I cant get into recovery. so im thinking of flashing back to stock using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818439, so once i update my phone Froyo(using samsung kies mini) will I have 3 button combo
and can some tell what is uspposed to happen after I see the ATT logo from this thread, or am I even supposed do this with stick froyo?

All of these topics have been asked and answered numerous times. A more diligent search would have yielded the correct and best answer.
The safest way to fix the 3 button combo problem is to flash Gingerbread Bootloaders.

And what if I dun hv the 3 button recovery mode?
Merged duplicate threads.
mowilfred, the wiki is found at the link with the same name, at the top of every page on the site here.
At the top of this forum section, you will also find a sticky thread titled "STOP!! Before you post read this NOW!!". Please read that, for guidelines on proper searching and thread placement.
I can't boot up the phone in either recovery mode or download mode, using the 3 button boot up thingy. Is there any other way around?

[Q] Frozen AT&T Samsung Captivate

Howdy,
1. I have a AT&T Samsung Captivate and it was modded with CyanogenMod 7 for the past few months. Everything has been working fine until last night when I tried to update to a more recent nightly. Long story short, my phone is now frozen. Meaning, when I power it on it stays on the AT&T World Phone start screen.
2. Yes, I've searched for other threads for a solution but can't find any that resolves my issue.
3. Yes, I tried to boot into Recovery mode. When I hold down the two volume buttons and the power button, the screen powers up like normal and the AT&T World screen flashes three times. Then I release the buttons but instead of going into the recovery screen it just stays on the AT&T screen.
4. Yes, I have that thing that goes into the USB port and forces the phone into Download mode and it does but it stays on that screen indefinitely.
5. I have to remove the battery to get out of each of the scenarios above.
6. I'd like to simply get back to Stock mode so I can wipe everything from my phone and start from scratch.
Anyone up to helping out a desperate, unemployed father of two who needs his phone desperately to look for work?
Thank you!
First, since this is a question is should have posted in the Q&A section.
Second, if you can get into download mode then you can recover via Odin or Heimdall
Just be careful depending on which bootloaders you have on your device.

If you can get to download mode, that's great - you should be in luck (btw, it's supposed to stay on the download screen indefinitely).
First, go here and get the one-click back to stock Odin.
Once you have it, get into download mode, fire up odin, and plug in your phone. Assuming you see a yellow COM:4 (or similar) message, you should be good to go.

Be careful - that link takes you to the odin with 3-button fix - if you flash that first, you could end up in a bad place.
Generally you should only flash the 3-button fix after going back to complete stock with the odin one-click to stock, and only if you need to repair a nonfunctional 3-button setup.

Yes I know I say that in the post, that you CANNOT flash the 3 Button Fixed Odin straight from GB Bootloaders.
YOU MUST flash Odin One Click first to get the Eclair Bootloaders, then that 3 Button Fixed JF6 to get your combo back for the unlucky people that lose it like me.
But on the thread note please stay with me, I posted the thread and the MegaUpload said it should only be another 10 minutes, then bad weather came through my area and froze the download link.
The download link for the full JF6 3 Button Fixed.tar file should be up in about an hour.
Sorry for the inconvenience
Thank You ! ! !
Guys,
Thank you all for sharing your knowledge that allowed me to fix my issue. I'm all set and running again in stock. You guys rock!!!
Best regards.
That's great to hear. Good luck on the job hunt.

[Q] Getting into download mode

I have a build 1008 Captivate that came with stock 2.2. After going back to 2.1 with Oden3 One-Click and then flashing MIUI, I can't seem to get download mode anymore. Not with adb, and none of the three button combos do anything. The only way I can get into CWM is either with Rom Manager or selecting recovery when rebooting.
Would going back to stock 2.1 using Oden3 One-Click work? If so, I'm not too sure how to proceed. I've read something about bricking due to different bootloaders? I've also read that there are some 1008 builds that don't have this issue while some do? What should I do? Thanks.
I did faced the similar issue with my captivate which is 1009 build, When i got it it was running froyo the minute i flashed it back to stock 2.1 i lost the 3 button combo (don't know why this happed)
The only way i was able to get into Dl mode was with the help of a jig which i made for i think less then 2 cents After that i flashed the serendipity rom and the new boot loaders since then i am able to get into Dl or recovery with the help of the 3 button combo.

Please help! I think I bricked my phone?

I have a Rogers captivate 2.3.3.
I tried super one click but it kept crashing on my computer, so I followed this,
A youtube video where I applied a .tar file. (I cant post the link as the forum wont let me. it was file I897UCKF1-AutoRoot-DesignGears.tar)
I ran that, and now my phone is in a boot loop... It will boot up saying AT&T, and then Rogers, then boot into the OS and then reboot.
I did not take a backup either.
Please help!
I know I know, I should have done more research!!!

But hope this helps.
Hello, I read the links you gave me,
The first one I see is explaning what hard brick, soft brick, and boot loop?
The second link I see says how to get into download mode?
And the trhid one, im not sure which file im supposed to running, or what steps im supposed to take.
Odin one click packages near the bottom of the post:
I'm not on rogers but I would go with the 2.3.3 gingerbread w/ bootloader in your case.
Please read what you are doing, read read read. Because flashing the bootloader is taking a higher risk. Good luck.
Have you tried reflashing the kernel? Have you tried flashing back to the stock kernel?
That kernel isn't made to boot. It a kernel that installs binaries and and the SU app
I'm a rogers user and using TRusselos one clicks don't seem to like my phone. The full odin flashable gingerbread package w/bootloaders worked for me. If you are still able to get into download mode, try that package, then from there, the vol down + power will be the button combo for download mode. I would also gather the ".tar" versions of the corn kernels, mainly 6.03 and 7.06 or 7.0A for further flashing purposes and because they are great kernels. Oh yeah, get a jig, from conexxion2005, they're really handy.
From the land of defrag
Odin is too complicated
And it never worked for me.
Heimdall on the other hand worked right off the bat.
So try Heimdall packaged ROMs, or one-click-Heimdall ROMs - Apex and SauromKK4.

[Q] Fuzzy TV Screen after flashing wrong Kernel

I have an ATT Captivate that goes into a fuzzy screen after it goes from the initial White ATT World Phone screen. The wrong kernel was flashed on it after I mistakenly read a post trying to upgrade the the Apex rom. If anyone could be of any assistance. I can't get into Download Mode or Recovery mode... but it still turns on. I'll post screenshots if possible.

Ouch, so no download mode or recovery mode? Have you tried booting into download from ADB? if you don't know what adb is then don't worry about it. You might try seeing KIES recognizes it, if not, download any ODIN package and see if the ODIN recognizes it, if it does you're in luck! If not, then you might consider ADB: I'm no expert but I'm sure that when you have ADB there is a way to replace the Kernel Image for a proper one. Just out of curiosity, which kernel did you accidentally flash?
It has nothing to do with kernels, you have a GB ROM with Eclair/Froyo Bootloaders

The second problem is... it loops after the fuzzy screen. It only stays for 5-10 seconds then goes back to the ATT screen.
I do know what adb is and I've used it a lot especially with my girl's Mytouch 4g. It's just this was a big problem I haven't been able to crack.
I believe the kernel that was flashed was TalonDEV 0.5.1-RC1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18330648&postcount=5215
Edit: Odin sees it for the 5-10 seconds it's on... but since it's bootlooping... Odin doesn't have time to do anything further than file analysis.
2nd Edit: The battery status comes up when I plug the phone up when it's off... I know that probably doesn't help, but I figure I should give all the information I can.

Its the KERNEL.
If you have froyo bootloaders and a gingerbread ROM, it will still boot into the ROM and work. But on boot, the KERNEL splash screen is that distorted image in the OP, and also recovery is inaccessible because all you get is the distorted image. And as you should know, recovery is contained in the kernel.
If you're on froyo, and flash a gingerbread kernel, not only will you have the issues stated above, but you'll also likely be bootlooping, which is exactly the situation in the op.
OP.. You don't use Odin booted into Android, or in a bootloop. Its used in DOWNLOAD MODE ONLY.
Search for "usb download mode jig" you can make one, our buy one fur under 10 bucks. It'll boot it into dl mode in seconds.
Then go to the top of the development section, find a gingerbread package WITH bootloaders. flash that, THEN proceed with your original plan
Yes or flash gingerbread boot loaders and get recovery back, Then flash and appropriate kernel in cwm.
Hint: there is a button combination that you must preform to enable download mode it is posted several thousand times in the captivate section I would suggest go and find what it is.
Btw. The button combination happens to be posted in three or four of the stickies. And the forum rules say to read stickies before creating a thread or posting.

I've read them already. I told you I can't get into either mode. I know exactly what the 3 button combination and the download combination is for this phone and since the wrong kernel was flashed on it, it's apparently not working.
Hint: being helpful is great, but when you start talking down to people, you start to become an ass. When that starts to happen, it's best you be quiet and let people who want to come up with a solution to the problem speak.
Thanks.

In future reference, you can force the phone into download mode from adb.
