i recently updated my own captivate to 2.3.3 with no trouble at all,
so i figured i'd do it for a friend who had the same phone.
i plugged it in, all was going fine, then it suddenly went blue screen for about 20 min,
so i unplugged it, and it got stuck on an error message that goes cellphone...error triangle...computer.
cant seem to find much help online, figured i'd try here.
help please.
You can use that screen as a download mode screen. Try flashing again from that screen.
+1, you're not bricked. Just do it again
Make sure you have gb bootloaders as well, if the package your flashing doesnt contain them.

I tried to do this. I used those images as the download mode. Open Odin v1.1.18 then put this file in PDA
SGH-I897_I897UCKB1_I897ATTJF6_I897UCKB1_I897UCKB1_UC_ATT.zip not sure what it is. Thought it was gingerbread. Phone would NOT reboot only get to the Galaxy S screen.
Any help appreciated.
I am just lost...

Ya, you don't use zips for odin.

Thanks...right now my phone is locked to the computer. I have a phone to computer image only. I was told I could use this as the download mode. I am trying to get 2.2 back on but think it is only an upgrade to 2.1. When I open Odin downloader to install 2.1 it fails. Do I have to have a file of some sort?
What can I do to get 2.2 back on. We had gingerbread 2.3.5 on and wasn't able to root it. It has been a down hill slide since and now we have the phone LOCKED to the COMPUTER.
grrrrr.
Please can you tell me what to do.
Thanks

I remember that screen. I got it once before. Here's how I got out of it. I had to hold down power up and power down buttons at the same time for several seconds until the image blinked. then when it blinked insert the usb cable (make sure the cable is already plugged into the computer, and ODIN is open before you plug it into phone.)
Hold the buttons down until you see download mode (yellow triangle)
Hope it works for you.
That screen is also download mode. I've had the best luck with Odin 1.85 disconnect your phone, pull battery. Start odin, put battery back in and boot, it'll boot to that same screen, connect usb cable to phone (which should already be connected to computer) odin should recognize your phone and say "added" you can find an official stock froyo uckb1 .tar file from the following link...... forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11526718&postcount=1 put the tar in the PDA slot and flash

DID I JUST BRICK MY PHONE??
tried flashing the i9000 rom... got messed up sometime after flashing csc and pda.... now i can boot to recovery menu and get odin to recognize but im getting an error
copy_multi_carrier from: ATT
multicsc : can not acces to /system/csc/ATT/system/
copy_common_data
then it stalls.. my power button doesnt work to reboot system now...
Even though odin recognizes i hit start and nothing happens..
can anyone help.. i will donate and make it worth your time..
No you didn't brick your phone, you need to follow the I9000 guide in the stickied threads. You need to load a Captivate kernel before fully rebooting your phone.
First off get your phone back into download mode. Pull battery and usb cable, restart Odin, then follow this method to get you into download mode, put in battery, hold down both volume buttons, keep holding them and plug in the USB cable.
First when you flash a I9000 rom make sure you uncheck autoreboot on Odin.
When this done when you flash the Rom it will say Restet in Odin. At that time pull your battery and USB cable.
Restart Odin and load the Captivate kernel. Put you battery in, hold both volume buttons, keep them held and plug in the USB cable, should go into download mode. Start Odin, and it should be fine to let it autoreboot.
I missed something it will be in the stickied thread.

can you clear something up is Android System Recovery the same as download mode??
ok this thread can be deleted.. im a noob.. kjpdx throw me a link to donate.. i figured it out by myself but atleast you replied..
Two different modes. Download mode shows an Android holding a shovel and Recovery mode is where you would install update.zips.
Needs to be in Download mode when installing roms and kernels with Odin.

Hi:
I have the same problem of my Galaxy S. It is stuck in this screen saying
copy_multi_carrier from: ATT
multicsc : can not access to /system/csc/ATT/system/
etc. etc.
I boot it to the download mode as instruction, but the Kies always shows connecting device, and it never gets connected. The Odin shows no com port or device for me to load the firmware. Can anyone help? Any help will be appreciated.

That reason is that voodoo doesn't work with 2.2
For the sake of your wallet, I would read the threads more carefully before flashing new roms if I were you. I'm not trying to be a ****, but this issue was addressed many times in the cognition thread. I'm all for learning from others on this forum after they make the mistakes
So here't the full background, it's not long, please read:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...-bricked-my-sgs-wonder-what-i-did-wrong.2032/
Long story short, it looks like I bricked my SGS when trying to flash with Odin, even though I followed the tutorial very closely. When I power up the phone, it just gives me the image with phone, exclamation mark and PC on it. It does, however, go into download mode when powered up with VolDown and center button.
How do I save it? Do I need the JIG (God, please say no! )
Have you tried reflashing with odin.
Jig is only needed when you cant get into download mode.
Also i just looked inside the darky rom topic.
Have you flashed the jvk rom first with the bootloaders?
Edit: as said below. If you gonna reflash, flash a stock rom. Not the darky rom. First priority is to make your phone work.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Yeah, you have download mode.
Now, fire up Odin and load a few rom files into it, connect the phone and see if the PC still recognises it. (Do not flash, Just a test)
If so...
Flash a stock rom.
Somehow, I was able to flash it with Odin in Download Mode this time. Phew! I read somewhere that the flash might fail if You're using wrong USB port. At first I connected my phone to a eSATA/USB combo port, and for the second time (after brick) I tried a normal USB 2.0 port in my laptop. Maybe that's what made the difference, I have no idea.
Anyway, I'm running stock Samsung 2.3 rom and am trying to install Darky's 10.0 RC3 on it - I am running into some problems, but thankfully they're much less serious than the brick that I was able to fix.
Thanks for Your help!
I ran into similar problems last week. A rom wouldn't flash, so I gave it an hour and it proceeded nowhere. Had to pull the plug on it.
Sometimes it just takes a few times plugging and unplugging repeatedly until it just happens to get detected by Windows. Maybe just a bit of luck too
Congrats on your recovery.
Just wondering which stock 2.3 rom did you use and which Odin setting you used to get your phone up and working again.
Here is my post / problem, seems similar to yours
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020223
Thanks
I had the same issue like warnec on my first darkyy flash, finally everything went fine...don't worry!
just try to reflash with odin (maybe going for a stock version first is a good idea), be sure to do everything as mentioned in the guides out there. and be sure your computer works stable, maybe you want to quit some tasks in the background (however it should work even without but something crashed my odin once...)
Reflash with Odin to make your phone work again. I suggest using a stock 2.2.1/2.3.3 ROM. It is important that it consists of the 512.pit file, a PDA file, a Phone file and a CSC file. The ROM must have bootloaders included!
Now, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
Start Odin and load all the files. Tick 'Repartition'.
Start your phone in Download Mode by pressing Vol-Down, Home and Power.
Connect it to your PC and wait for Odin to say 'Added!'.
Now hit Start, wait 2-3 minutes until it is done and your phone should succesfully reboot!

does not sound very good...could you solve your problem yet?
Had to take the phone into Bell. Waiting on return of it and currently using a loaner HTC Desire Z from Bell.
I have a Verizon Galaxy Tab 7-inch with WiFi and 3G running Android 2.2 (Froyo). I mistaking tried to flash the new Android 2.3.3 before realizing it was only for GSM phones. I followed all the instructions using Odin3 (1.7) and everything looked like it worked except it never rebooted and I never got it into the Recovery Mode. I was still able to get in Download Mode so I tried to find a compatible 2.2 ROM to flash. I flashed the Roto JME rom, it didn't reboot. I flashed P1000NUBJM2_P1000NUBJM2_P1000NUUBJM2_HOME and it didn't work. Odin3 seemed to install these, I always got PASS. Now my Tab is totally unresponsive. Odin3 acts like it's installing but I can't get the Download Mode screen anymore. How do I get it back to factory or some working system? I don't expect to save anything I've loaded, I just want it to work again. HELP. Thanks.
P.S. If I can't fix this, who do I take it to to re-install the system? I got it from Verizon.
Can you get it into recovery mode? (Turn off, then Power + Volume UP)
No success
No, nothing I do will show anything on the display. I can't get into Recovery Mode or Download Mode. However, when I'm hooked to the computer and press the correct buttons to turn on/off or Download Mode, I hear the computer beep indicating it sees the USB and the yellow COM widget in Odin3 lights up and says it's up and in Download Mode. I can then flash it and it says PASS. I also just tried Heimdall and it also seemed to successfully flash the original Verizon SCH-I800_VZM firmware. Nothing displays when I try to go into Recovery Mode. I don't even see the picture of the battery when I plug it into the wall. Have I somehow trashed by screen?
Hi ! I got the same problem and now my Tab totally bricked...
Samsung just needs to give us the files and software to load these tabs back to stock! That would end the return issue for the carriers and let us unbrick them. Like any other device, there is a way to fix it without having to send it back.

I just got this tab and like every other android i get I rooted it. I used superoneclick -- worked fine. then downloaded cwm and flashed the recovery. of course when i went into recovery it was 3e so i couldnt actually use cwr without the bypass fix. Anyway -- i used some recovery fix -- which i think was for a vibrant -- wasn't thinking. Once it rebooted into recovery it showed some yellow letters then went blank. The computer still recognizes it but the tab won't boot. i can reset it by turning it off and on but it only shows tmobile splash and the yellow letters scrolling in recovery then goes blank again. please help. i've been reading everything but no one seems to have had this problem.
thank you very much

is that really my best option??
i figured there would be some manual way to reflash the recovery or maybe complete firmware with a recovery built in. it will still go into download mode -- like i said the computer still recognizes it but I just don't know where to start. ive never used odin and not a pro at adb/sdk but i can usually follow directions pretty well. i've rooted g1's, mytouch 3g fenders slides, inspires, atrix, vibrant, captivates so i'm not giving up yet. i know someone is willing to help.
from the off position, when you press and hold volume down then a moment later without letting up from volume down also hold power button until lights turn on, what does it do?
download all below zips, and unzip them
run it usb driver. say yes to everything. plug in tab to computer in download mode. let it install tab drivers
unplug tab.
open odin
Watch the first box on the left. ID:COM
plug in tab to comp in download mode.
That box should light up yellow, that means your tab in connected and ready to go.
place unzipped stock rom in PDA.
Press Start.
When done it should say all threads completed, and your tab should restart on its own.
Let it boot, and welcome back to stock Tmobile
uploads are taking a bit, be patient.
Do you want stock 2.2, or 2.3?
yes -- it goes into download mode
sounds promising -- thank you -- i will keep you updated on the progress.
prefer 2.2 where it was.
thanks so much

ok download stock rom froyo and not Gingerbread
where can i find froyo version?
I've been browsing for a while all over google and this site and still can't find anything that can help me so I'm asking.
I'm a basic Captivate user with no experience with flashing and rooting, but I saw Serendipity7 and thought the instructions were simple enough to follow on the weebly site. I downloaded the ROM files and the Installation files and extracted them. I followed the instructions perfectly by installing the drivers for my phone, opening Odin3 1.7, selecting the PDA, PHONE, CSC and PIT files then put my phone in download mode. I waited for the ID:COM to pop up then hit start. The blue bar on my phone and the one in Odin started working for about 30 seconds to a minute, not even the first box was done, then my phones screen turned straight blue, and Odin3 said it failed. The popup in the corner of the computer screen then said that my phone is no recognized for some reason.
Now my phone opens to the boot screen that says
"GALAXY S
gt-i9000
SAMSUNG"
and it just sits there. I can't get into download mode, and when I plug it to charge the screen with the battery level freezes and sits there.
Can somebody help me? I am a serious noob here that assumed simple directions were easy to follow (who knew they weren't?).
Thanks a million

Yea you're definitely gonna be able to fix that quickly. Redo flash get into download mode either holding down volume down and inserting usb or hold down and hit power.

None of the key combos are working for me so I'm just gonna us the jig fix to get into download. I know I need to use a 300k ohm resistor but does it matter if I use a 1%, 2% or a 5% resistor?
Thanks again
