DID I JUST BRICK MY PHONE??
tried flashing the i9000 rom... got messed up sometime after flashing csc and pda.... now i can boot to recovery menu and get odin to recognize but im getting an error
copy_multi_carrier from: ATT
multicsc : can not acces to /system/csc/ATT/system/
copy_common_data
then it stalls.. my power button doesnt work to reboot system now...
Even though odin recognizes i hit start and nothing happens..
can anyone help.. i will donate and make it worth your time..
No you didn't brick your phone, you need to follow the I9000 guide in the stickied threads. You need to load a Captivate kernel before fully rebooting your phone.
First off get your phone back into download mode. Pull battery and usb cable, restart Odin, then follow this method to get you into download mode, put in battery, hold down both volume buttons, keep holding them and plug in the USB cable.
First when you flash a I9000 rom make sure you uncheck autoreboot on Odin.
When this done when you flash the Rom it will say Restet in Odin. At that time pull your battery and USB cable.
Restart Odin and load the Captivate kernel. Put you battery in, hold both volume buttons, keep them held and plug in the USB cable, should go into download mode. Start Odin, and it should be fine to let it autoreboot.
I missed something it will be in the stickied thread.

can you clear something up is Android System Recovery the same as download mode??
ok this thread can be deleted.. im a noob.. kjpdx throw me a link to donate.. i figured it out by myself but atleast you replied..
Two different modes. Download mode shows an Android holding a shovel and Recovery mode is where you would install update.zips.
Needs to be in Download mode when installing roms and kernels with Odin.

Hi:
I have the same problem of my Galaxy S. It is stuck in this screen saying
copy_multi_carrier from: ATT
multicsc : can not access to /system/csc/ATT/system/
etc. etc.
I boot it to the download mode as instruction, but the Kies always shows connecting device, and it never gets connected. The Odin shows no com port or device for me to load the firmware. Can anyone help? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks! I couldn't get download mode and this is the only thread online to help. I received this error when trying to install the voodoo lagfix while running cognition 2.2 beta 7. (for some reason, my cognition did not have the lagfix built in)

That reason is that voodoo doesn't work with 2.2
For the sake of your wallet, I would read the threads more carefully before flashing new roms if I were you. I'm not trying to be a ****, but this issue was addressed many times in the cognition thread. I'm all for learning from others on this forum after they make the mistakes

Sorry.
Ignore this post.
Attempt number 14 or 15 finally worked flashing it back to the stock Captivate kernel
Im happy
Please can a moderator delete this post!
okay this is a captivate?
i noticed you said it went to crap at " I was flashing with I9000XFJM6 when it all turned to crap". make sure you are using odin one click here in the captivate forum and not the i9000 forum. it sounds like you have download mode ok and odin sees it in yellow but idk...just sounds like you are using the i9000 and not the captivate kernel for the one click
Also the connection process is very important. The steps to follow are:
Open Odin
Hold VolUp + VolDwn + plug in USB. (This will enter download mode)
Odin will recognize handset (yellow text field)
Click Start
Ive noticed this has to be on the first USB connection to the handset after entering download mode, and Odin must be open before you connect the device!
Thanks for the fast reply. Definitely using the stock captivate kernel.
this finally worked kernel-captivate-stock.tar.md5
Tried this as well captivate-stock.tar.md5
All fixed now. Dont know why each attempt failed before
Why would you try to flash an I9000 rom on a captivate if the phone is not yours? if you can get in download mode then it should work. try another usb port.

I did the same process on my phone and it worked well. His didnt !
Getting into download mode wasnt the problem. Its just every update failed.
All fixed now.
For future reference this kind of thread should go in the Q&A section. Glad you got it fixed.
Guys, I desperately need your help! I'm a bit of a noob and tried to update my Galaxy S to 2.2 and forgot to uninstall Voodoo and unroot before doing so. My phone now won't switch on properly, displaying only a black screen and the capacitive buttons are lit up. I have downloaded odin but don' t know what to do from here. I have searched EVERYWHERE for what files I need to download to flash it to stock firmware. PLEASE PLEASE help, I'm so lost! Thanks...look forward to replies
Take out battery, sim and SD, open up Odin and plug USB cord into a USB port. Now plug the battery back in your phone and DO NOT TURN IT ON! hold the two volume rockers(maybe difdrent for you, I have a Captivate) and plug your phone into the USB cord. You should now be in download mode with Odin running. Flash a working firmware(get them from samfirmware.com) and you'll just have an working phone running whatever you decided to flash. I think your new so ill warn you right quick: read, alot!
PS: might wanna post this in q&a. People tend to get p-ssed off when you post non-development stuff in this subforum.

Searched everywhere!? Can you get into download mode? If you can grab the stock firmware from somewhere like samfirmware and flash the files using odin. If you search "everywhere" again I'm sure you'll find a good guide on how to do this.
You've also posted this in the wrong section
First off are you looking to flash the i9000 or the i9000m below are the instructions for the i9000m from Canada.
Here is a Tutorial if you dont want to follow my steps below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853950
Ok download mode is your down volume button, power and home key all at once, if you cant get here you are f'd. So power off your phone, take your sim and sd card out, place battery back in, then hit the 3 buttons to get into download mode.
Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
Get odin and the rom you want, if you are on Bell or Sasktel use the link above and download the proper rom either 2.1(i9000ugjh2) or 2.2 (i9000ugjk3), it's under canada you can't really get that wrong.
Once you have both open odin v1.7, put your phone into download mode and plug it in, you have to have odin open before plugging it in, you should see the driver installing and when it is ODIN will show your device under ID:COM, it will be yellow something like c:[COM15] (note it doesn't have to be 15) just has to show added!! under Message.
Now click PDA button and find the rom you downloaded. Make sure Re-partition is NOT checked and that is it, click Start. You can have autoreboot checked and reset time. NOTE: DO NOT USE PIT FILE. All you have to do is find the rom via PDA button, and click start.
It should flash your rom, post back if you ahve issues, I had a few issues and know this pretty good, I also used a pit file and thought I bricked my phone but it's ok. Hopefully you can get into recovery mode also which is vol up, power and home.

Nice job on the working phone! I reccomend flashing the ULK kernel. It basically includes anything ever whipped up kernel-wise. Also, I think you'ld like Doc's V9 Jpa and to top it all off flash the Jk3 modem(unless you live EX-USA. then flash JPP). These are all CWM flashable so no more Odin hassle.

I followed instructions on a link via the cyanogenmod website, to try and get cm7 on my phone. The instructions were on a wiki website which I now know is not reliable!
I got to the stage "flashing cyanagonmod" to find out that the zip files had to be in the internal sd card BEFORE starting the whole process!
I can still access download mode and recovery. But my phone gets stuck on the "Samsung galaxy i9000" intro screen.
I tried restoring and factory reset but still no joy...
any help is very appreciated!
Download some odin flashable ROM, and flash that in download mode.
where do I find an odin ROM and how do I know which one to use?
corrected: samfirmware.com
If you want a custom rom, then look through here however your going to have to read which is odin flashable...
This is a guide and rom i have used myself. Click here
BTW this is obviously assuming you are on SGS I9000 the second link should be quite clear...

Thanks for your post. Only problem is ODin doesn't recognise when my phone is plugged in? i.e. there isn't that yellow box showing...help!
Ok so im guessing your trying the 3 button combo for download mode (vol up + home + power). Alternatives to force download is a homemade jig, which is easily obtainable from ebay for a relatively cheap price. Other ways you can try is holding the combo for as long as you can, some have reported it may even work after 3 mins. Another method is hold the combo and then whilst holding it insert the battery. Also the last method but have the usb plugged into with odin open, then put the battery in. Many many ways... just search
Is that what you mean or that you CAN get to download mode and Odin and the computer does NOT recognise when you plug it in. If this is try re-installing the drivers using kies, its under the tools menu. Try a different version of odin, plug phone in then try the combo (with battery already in, then without). Have you closed all Kies applications background processes? (use task manager in windows). Use another computer..
Also have you read this
Edit: Forgot to add, can you get into Recovery? Then use your nandroid backup which you should always do before flashing.. If you dont have a back up try use ADB to force download mode "adb reboot download"
Need to know what options you have available in-order to help, what can you do? Is there any response from your phone with pressing buttons or key combinations??
Hi everyone. Im not normally in this section as i have an x8 but my friend has seen all the roms, mods and updates ive done so he tried to do it to his galaxy s i9000 without rooting or unlocking his bootloader. I asked him what he did he said he just tried to update software with keis but now it wont turn on just white screen with a red triangle in the middle i hope its download mode as i dont have a galaxy i dont really no but the battery has died and it wont charge im guessing hes damaged the bootloader am i right and if so whats the best corse of action to tepair it. Thanks.
You can check if it is in download mode by pluggin it in pc with odin. See the wiki page what it says about soft brick.
Soft-Bricked
After flashing a rom you might not be able to enter the Download Mode by pressing Volume Down + Home + Power. In this case a so called 'JIG' would be helpfull.
You could build it on your own: [HOWTO] [REF] Get Download Mode without 3-button combo using homemade JIG
... or buy a preassembled one on a well known marketplace.Hint: There is no difference between a JIG for Samsung S/S2 or S-Plus.
See if you can go into d0wnload mode with vol down home and power. If that works go and try to find the stock firmware for the phone and download and extract. Download odin and put csc pda and phone/modem in there rightful places. 512 pit in pit section. Pit usually comes with odin download. If not find it somewhere. Repartition checked and hit start. It should reboot when done. It will problaby take a couple of min to boot but be patient. If it starts to go into boot loop put back into download mode again and reflash. Its very hard to mess up the phone to where you cant fix it. So relax and watch tuts or whatever helps you best. I know of a link i that i will find and post for you when i do.

DEAD bricked phone
So, my friend's phone (hopefully she'll stay my friend after this) was turning itself on and off all on it's own. So I (no good deed goes unpunished) suggested that I will upgrade her firmware for her. She had 2.3.3 firmware. I downloaded the odin1.7 as well as a package of all the info for 2.3.5 firmware upgrade. I flashed the phone- originally only using the PDA option with a file called: CODE_I9000XXJVS_CL565837_REV03_user_low_ship
It worked, the phone restarted and showed the firmware as being 2.3.5.
I don't know why, but I thought it would be a good idea to update the CSC and the pit and the modem as well- so I did that. when this was finished - though odin said that the flashing was successful the phone is completely unresponsive. The computer doesn't recognize it, it doesn't show any signs of life at all- like it's in the dark ages and there is no electricity in it.
HELP!!!
First question: do you think a jig will work? how dangerous is it?
second question: is there any other option to try that I haven't come across other than changing the motherboard, and if there isn't do you know where I can get one, bear in mind I live in Israel.
Please e-mail me a copy of the response to [email protected] if you can...
Odin dosnt pick it up atall plus the batteries dead aswell now and the stupid thing wont charge so i cant evan try any thing till i find away or some one to charge it but thanks for the tips.

Try to recharge the battery from other phone or use another battery.
Check whether you have the download mode working. (Home+Power+Volume down)
If yes, put phone in download mode and flash Darky RE or any other Rom via ODIN. Try to get the recovery mod after rooting and then try ROMs.
Or try restarting the phone it may work without update also. Long press power in download mode restarts the phone. However be careful.
What is the status of the device can you go to download mode
Post your firmware files name and how you choose in the odin flasher.
Dont try anything crazy you will bricked your device more:banghead:

Alternate way to Download mode
Hi gavster26
I have been there with a buddy's phone... not a nice place.
Found a link showing this other trick ... but you have to trial and error this one on the different combos:
1. Phone off
2. USB cable pluged in
3. Odin running
4. Down (or Up - test both) Volume button + Home button + plug in the USB cable.
This booted my dead "bricked" phone into download mode.
Try it.
I have a Samsung Captivate which has been rooted and unlocked...it was running 2.3.5 uckk4
I believe I got a virus from downloading some app that was not on the market well long story short I tried to flash it back to a different version
I believe I put something in odin bootload that I wasnt suppose to it was an accident as you see I am a total noob at this then I use the 1 click unbrick now my phone keeps rebooting itself but i looked at the about phone which i get to for a few seconds before it reboots itself again and this is what it says
Firmware
2.3.3
Baseband
1879UCKF1
Kernel Version
1897UCKK414489
BUILD

I have tried a master reset since I could get it into debug just that it keeps looping and it worked in odin but not on my phone and this is what it generated

Make sure you're using a usb port that is on the motherboard (back of computer). Before you plug in your phone to flash, set up Odin first. Put all the files you are going to flash in the right places. After Odin is fully set up, plug in the usb to the back of your computer, then to you phone. Make sure you are in download mode. If the usb still isn't working, try a different USB port that is on the back of the computer. Connecting the usb to the back of the pc is very important. Odin doesn't recognize my phone when it's plugged in the front, when the phone is in download mode. Only the back usb ports.
If Odin still doesn't recognize the phone, try a different USB cable. But do everything else the exact same way as I described.
Also make sure you fully setup Odin before you plug your phone in to the usb.

You probably have mismatch kernel and bootloader loader. Maybe you can try to wipe data / factory reset in recovery.

If you continue to go into a bootloop then I recommend a USB jig for the galaxy s series. I had had that happen before, Nothing worked, couldnt get it into download mode, couldnt get into recovery, Until I got the USB jig, Fixed my problem right away, and I flashed back to stock. The USB jig is only 6 bucks on ebay. Ill link you if you are interested.

Are you sure? Becuz I tried to flash an overclock kernel on my rom, and kept getting a bootloop. Then after flashing a few different kernels, the kernel that came with my rom didn't even work. I had to go back to stock and reflash my rom.
Idk, maybe it was just me then. I apologize. thank you for correcting me, that's how we learn what's right, and what's wrong.

noob advice
I'm a noob, so this comment might just serve to show how little I know, but whenever I find myself in a bootloop situation, I've noticed that the problem starts with the initial attempt of installing a rom via a kernel with an older version of CWM. During the post-install boot sequence, I'll see the AT&T splash screen, a CWM screen with script running, and then a reboot. Usually, accessing the CWM (now on a higher version) and reinstalling the rom will get it working. Not quite kernel / bootloader mismatch, but close.

Try this.
Buy a jig. Either off of Ebay or mobiletechvideos.com
That week get you into download mode.
Then find the HEIMDALL flasher for a build. (my favorite was the one click for saurom Kk4)
Install heimdall drivers, and flash. Boom. Functioning phone.
