No it won't. Using two of them on medianet plans
i would say they probably can, especially if you use more data than say a MEdia Net user would use, that would raise some flags.

For LTE you would need an LTE capable sim card. For 4g youd need a capable 4g sim card, for 3g you'd need a 3g capable sim card. Sim cards are backwards capable but not forwards.

No, its not an LTE capable APN. LTE has a totally seperate RAN and Core network from the 2G/3G RAN and Core Network.
PTA is LTE APN you should be using.
using the MEdia Net plan with the Vivid is like driving a Ferarri with a Yugo engine.

incorrect, you need 4 things:
1. LTE SIM Card
2. LTE Data Plan
3. LTE device
4. LTE network
even if you dont live in an LTE market, you still need 1-3. otherwise you end up changing APN's and not getting a good experience.
Its not a question of if youd gave a good time doing it. I mean if the dude wants to use a medianet plan on a lte phone obviously he dgaf bout having a good time using this thing.

For "4G"(HSPA/HSPA+) you need a 3G SIM... because it's really 3G.
For "4G (UMTS that the vivid calls 4G) you need a 3G SIM
My co-worker bought a Vivid and they did not replace his SIM... his phone worked fine as far as he knew until I asked if he was digging the LTE they had turned on a day earlier... He had no LTE, but was cruising along at HSPA+ speeds just fine... went to the AT&T store, got the right SIM and PRESTO! LTE.
Same SIM he had had since his 3G Blackberry Curve... no way was it a "4G SIM"

AT&T has had 6 revisions of SIM card, as long as you have a SIM card with the digits 25 in 9th/10th place, you have an LTE SIM card, and what i was talking was requirements for LTE, separate RAN and Core network. those 4 things drive the ability for you to be provisioned in the HSS (LTE equivalent of the HLR in the 3g network) you just proved my point above, "got the right SIM and PRESTO! LTE." SIM, IMEI, rate plan drive whether or not you get provisioned in the HSS.
i could go into more detail, however, I'm feeling lazy and tired at the moment.
i am betting they can see what device he has, even if international, AT&T probably has a range of IMEI for the HTC holiday and i am betting it is within that range,

the Atrix is a 14.4mbps device. APN you probably were using was Phone, its not as limited like wap.cingular is.
HSDPA devices were 7.2, HSPA+ devices are usually 14.4 or higher
Original "4G" devices:
Inspire: 14.4mbps
Infuse: 21.mps
Atrix: 14.4mbps
Thrill:14.4mbps

You have to have 4G sim to access the APN is what I'm getting at. Just like you have to have an LTE sim to acess the LTE APN. I'm just dumbing it down so someone won't expect changing their APN to work. Now I have an LTE sim, I exchanged phones quite a few times before I stuck with this one.
As for actually data speeds I've gotten -
3G is ~1 (tested on iPhone4, bud hasn't changed his simcard in years)
3G+ is ~5 (tested on LG Quantum)
4G is ~13 (tested on Atrix 2)
4G LTE is ~ 26 (tested on HTC Vivid)

yes, that sounds about right, i dunno where you are man, I've only seen 10mbps down and that was at 2:30 AM. LTE i have averaged that in NYC.
Around the Charlotte, NC area. It really depends on where I am. Some towers give me ~23. Others ~28. I got ~5mps in Concord, NC. Its horrible how much it varies in just a couple of miles.

Yup. I like having AT&T here. We got the backhaul (4G) a month after the Inspire's release. A good 70% of 3G areas don't even have the backhaul implemented yet (hence the reason people stating they switched cards and got no speed difference). This one guy had an inspire was only getting E around here. He got his sim card switched and out of nowhere he got 4G. Its kinda funny how the coverage doesn't overlap like one would imagine.

Hmmm, very interesting, I wouldn't like Charlotte as its a mostly 1900mhz market. Poor building penetration.
I've heard people say that, and honestly I've had no issue what so ever with it. I have never dropped signal inside a building. I do get poor signal in parking garages, and old buildings though, but thats kind of expected. Haha.

I am not sure I understand what you are saying but you will have to get a new sim card, one that supports lte.
You can use the same SIM card. You just won't get LTE.

If you have LTE in your area then yes. Go in and say you need a new sim card. They will probably charge u a nominal fee
ATT shouldn't charge for new sim - only if it is not a corporate store.
U do not need a diff sim if u have the 4g already ....I came from inspire and didn't have to change my card and my LTE works

Hm. I came from an Inspire and couldn't get any data til they gave me a new SIM...which confused me, but I didn't have data with my old SIM, then I had data with my new one...so I didn't ask too many questions
I came from an HTC Aria and had to get a new SIM, something about it being provisioned for LTE.

This. AFAIK, the new SIM card allows you to use the PTA APN, at which point they put you on the LTE "equivalent" of your current data plan.

So, I went from a galaxy s2 with unlimited data plan, very expensive, but my SIM won't pick up LTE when put it in my new Htc Vivid....so are you saying I have to have a new LTE SIM?
Will AT&T give me one as I would think they want traffic to move over to the LTE service if I am already paying for an unlimited plan?
Anyone run into this?
I cannot change my plan to anything more expensive as it is a corp plan but it is already an unlimited voice data plan....

Is it unlimited data as well? I was under the impression that lte was for data and phones calls switch back to a lower network setting. If it is unlimited data you would need a new sim to take advantage of the lte. They should not charge you for the sim, I got it for free when I upgraded to the vivid from the captivate.

That is the case.
When they provision your plan, they put you on the LTE equivalent of what you already had. No change in price or terms or anything. You just have Smartphone Unlimited LTE instead of Smartphone Unlimited or whatever it's called.
Hi all, you were correct, ATT store gave me a new LTE capable SIM, the weird thing is that the only APN setting on the phone is called PTA....and won't give me any data connection at all, I am NOT in a LTE area now but I would think it would revert to the system that is available, 2g,3G or Hspa?
I added another APN but does this mean I have to manually switch back and forth when I get into an let area? This seems ridiculous?
Any advice I would appreciate?
Is there one APN setting that will do it all?
Other question. I am on infuse 4g (4g sim card in it) wonder iif I get other phone from Verizon or T-Mobile that has 4g and unlocked. Will I get 4g speed from them or what??

hi, Infuse is a GSM phone so no Verizon....
As of now...tmobile sim might work but would only get you 2g...and you have to do a SIM unlock...tmobile 3g only works on 1700 band and Infuse has 3G bands of 850, 1900 and 2100 (UK band).....
Now, article today mentioned tmobile might open 1900 band on their hspa+ network but it is later this year and again you would have to SIM unlock...hspa+ is a pseudo 4g...it is not LTE but much faster than typical 3G,...that could work for ya...

I got n4 today.I have straight talk with my nexus 4. I already had att sim. I got average speed of 5mb down and 1-.1.5 up. I know tmobile is suppose to be faster hpsa+ network. I've been with tmobile and att the speeds where i live and they are close to same for me. I bought tmobile sim just to see. I averaging 12-14 mb down and 2-3.5 mb up. I would recommend if go straight talk route get tmobile if you can. Check your coverage but tmobile is faster I live in a medium size market.

How u get a Straight Talk T-Mobile micro sim card??
Im on straight talk att and it works for what I need. T mobile really doesn't have anything out side of the interstate here in Kentucky.
Don't see that changing anytime soon.

T-Mobile has a better HSDPA network in urban areas, but based on many years with both carriers it is safe to say AT&T has a wider 3G coverage and better signal penetration in buildings.
I'm on Straight Talk using At&t sim and will be trying T-Mobile sim next.
Only complaint that I've had is once in a while I get an "access forbidden "message while using the web. I've researched it and have found no answer.

Make sure your APN settings are correct, and then yes, you should get HSPA 42 when in available areas.
I've been on ST on my Atrix for a few months and don't have any complaints. TMobile's coverage map only shows 2g in my area or I would give that a try. Data speeds aren't the best but the money I save over ATT is incredible. I usually pull 2.5-3.5 mbps down and 1.0-1.5 mbps up. Speedtests can be a little funky because ST proxies all traffic through Chicago.
I'm also using straight talk and until last night, my speeds were just horrible ( 0.25 Mbps ) but then I called them an they reset my data settings. Now I pull between 2mb -5 mbps. :winning:

Remove the proxy from your APN. Solves this and for most it seems like the chance of throttling goes down.

I've been using straight talk AT&T with a T-Mobile phone, so Ive only been getting EDGE for the last 2 months. Anything will be an upgrade for me hahaha
Been using ST with a TMobile sim. Just checked the coverage for AT&T and found out they actually have 3g and 4g in my area! Just placed an order for an AT&T sim!
On tmobile i get 20 mbs in atlanta so tmobile rocks here.

Proxy: not set

Does AT&T not have up to 42HSPA? On ST?
Toggle airplane mode instead of reboot. You can also leave Proxy blank.
AT&T does not have HSPA+ 42 in their network.
Um, if you want prepaid on T-Mobile, why not just get their prepaid plan? Its only 100 minutes, but you also get 3 GB more data for only $30 a month
Now that we can SIM-unlock our Sprint HTC Ones, I've been curious about buying a prepaid a T-Mobile SIM to use when I can't get LTE or decent 3G. My friends on T-Mobile get great HSPA speeds (even when it's just HSPA 14.4) around Chicago, usually in places where my data sucks.
Ideally, I would like to pop a T-Mobile SIM card in my phone, but still receive calls and texts on my Sprint number without setting up some kind of forwarding service. Unfortunately, I suspect that SIM cards don't work in this fashion, though I am hopeful because the removal of the SIM on the Sprint HTC One simply cuts off support for LTE (probably because the only purpose of the SIM card in the Sprint HTC One is to authenticate LTE, but I'm not totally certain).
Alternatively, could I jump between my Sprint service and T-Mobile service if I installed a T-Mobile SIM by using the *#*#4636#*#* menu? Say I chose "EvDo Only," would I connect to Sprint 3g and get calls and texts on my Sprint number and simply select "WCDMA Preferred" when I want to use T-Mobile's HSPA network?

So you can leave a T-Mobile card in there and just switch between Sprint 3G/voice as well as T-Mo 3G/voice at will? That could be useful; for example, my favorite bar is a total dead zone for Sprint data, but T-Mobile flies. When I know I'm going there, I could pop a T-Mobile SIM, switch to that to check websites and whatnot, but switch it back to periodically check my text messages, right?
That I am not sure. I only tested with a friend's sim card from his nexus 4. With the Sprint sim card removed I was still on sprint cdma but once I went into the available GSM networks and chose T-Mobile, it registered and I was no longer on Sprint at all and it shows GSM icon up where my signal is at. Made a phone call and phone call came thru under my friend's phone number instead of my Sprint number. I'm not sure about sms I did not really played around with it long enough as I was just testing if the unlock really worked.

im using it on t-mobile and i get 5 meg down but it keeps disconnecting ughhhh we need a gsm rom for the sprint htc one

Hmm... I might just stroll over to a T-Mobile store today, activate/pick up a SIM for $10, and spend another $3 for the daily pay-as-you-go plan. 200MB for $3 isn't bad if you need it in a pinch...

I've heard of these issues, does it happen if you stay in the same spot? Have you tried different modes in the *#*#4636#*#* menu other than "WCDMA Preferred"?

Just an update: I went to a T-Mobile store over lunch to buy a SIM. I was prepared to drop the $10 for the SIM and $3 for the day pass, but it turns out I would need to buy a $10 minimum plan first. >:-\
I'd rather not spend $25 after tax just to see if it works. I'll ask my friend on Sunday if I can try hers. Hopefully I'll be in an area that's covered in 1900/2100MHz.

Once ur SIM unlocked it will work with any SIM card ur just limited on the antennas the phone has. Our phone supports voice 3g and minimal 4g on domestic carriers. The 4g has to be on 1900/2100 mhz in order for this phone to pick it up

Once ur SIM unlocked it will work with any SIM card ur just limited on the antennas the phone has. Our phone supports voice 3g and minimal 4g on domestic carriers. The 4g has to be on 1900/2100 mhz in order for this phone to pick it up

Ehh... Not really "4G" since the Sprint HTC One only supports LTE on 1900MHz band 25. T-Mobile uses 1900/2100MHz for HSPA, and the Sprint One only supports 14.4Mbps on those HSPA frequencies (much slower than T-Mobile's phones support).

Doesn't tmobile have that labeled as 4g though that's y I said it. It's their "4g"

I just tried with a data only sim from a 3g iPad and it never picked up signal. It showed me a list of networks but never any bars.

I see what you're saying, and I think that you're right, but their HSPA network (which they suddenly started calling "4G" strictly for marketing reasons) is significantly slower than most LTE networks. Only phones that would run on HSPA 42.2Mbps would give Sprint phones a run for their money. HSPA was never classified as even being a pre-4G network by the ITU. I think that only WiMAX and LTE hold that distinction. Anything that's HSPA but marketed as "4G" is a lie.

If you're in a Sprint 3g only area then t-mobile if on 1900 hspa is still faster. If you integrated your sprint number with Google voice the you can still get your sprint text messages from the Google voice app and use an app like talkatone or groove ip for voice over ip

So I am not intending to get into a large debate about the HSPA ver of 4G vs the LTE networks other than to say that the top four carriers are not really using LTE to its truest potential because they're limiting backhaul connectivity to keep costs down. So that LTE network you're connected to doesn't have the fastest ethernet connection it should so in many cases it is "possible" for 42MB HSPA network to actually be faster in its actual deployment.

yes i tryed evrything, sprint does block domestic carriers, sucksssssssss ughhh.
i have an att samsung galaxy 8.9 lte. if i unlocked it, can i use it with tmobile lte? have someone here personally have an att 8.9 lte and unlocked it and successfully use it on another carrier. please tell me your experience. were you able to get the same lte speed on another carrier...meaning are att lte devices compatible with tmobile lte network and vice versa? is att lte and tmobile lte using the same bandwidth or different length? this is for usa. thx in advance.

No, wrong frequency. It will get mobile data but it is 1G not 4G. Plus they use net nanny to block a lot of websites.

Tmobile LTE is 1900 and the 8.9 is 1800 or vise versa. 1G is first generation wireless which was under 100k. It is 3 generations older than 4G and that is bad. You can do what I did sign up for 1 month for $50 and try to tweak it. They put a huge amount of pressure on me to sign up for two years and I am extremely glad it was only one month.

So i assume you have done this personally? If it is not compatible, do u know what other network is compatible then? I heard simple network which piggy back on att network, is that true? If yes, I could get LTE speed then?
