I am on Ginger Volt 1.3 and I find this to be an awesome stable rom. However, the home screen button is not working. I press it and nothing happens. When in an app it does not return to the home screen when you press it. Anyone have this issue and is there a resolve for this?
I have not had that issue or heard of anyone else having that issue....try wiping your phone (factory reset through CWM) and then reinstalling....if that still doesn't work then it sounds like a hardware issue with your phone...

I did that and I thought of the same thing, but when I reverted back to OEM software it worked. It's only when I put the rom in. Thank you for your feedback.

I have had this problem as well. Yes a reinstall of the rom works, if you wipe the system data, but I wonder why the problem exists at all. And it isn't really feasible to wipe your data everytime a problem occurs. And yes, I have titanium backup and can restore everything...but setting up my pages and tweaks and such...major PIA....

I've never has this problem but i don't believe you need to do a full wipe. Next time just try wiping cache and dalvik so you won't have to go through the pain of restoring everything. That's all I do when flashing a new gingervolt and it's worked great for me so far.
After going through a lengthy process to get my SIM card to work in going from Froyo/2.2.2 (thecubed's decrapified ROM + extra decrapification of my own) to GingerVolt 1.3, I decided to see if I could get away with not wiping all the data again this time.
Process went like:
Froyo Decrap -> Backup Froyo Decrap -> LGNPST Flash to V7 TOT -> Wipe -> GingerVolt 1.3 -> Wipe -> Restore Froyo Decrap (which had a bunch of apps and settings which I didn't want to re-do) -> GingerVolt 1.3 w/o data wipe
There were a couple of individual apps that I manually did a data wipe of. I think Gmail and ... I forgot the other. A few days now, so far no issues.

I believe the Roms only touch the apps and stuff in the /system folder. So if you have other downloaded apps I don't think you need to get rid of those. That's why I don't think you really need to do a full wipe when switching between roms. It's just recommended you wipe cache and dalvik.

Im currently on FROYO JP6 and I wanna try a couple of cooked ROM, patch kernel, tweak this tweak that, play with customization, apply fix etc etc
But what I really dont know for sure is, after Ive done playing with my phone, what is the safest way to put my phone back to virgin slate? I dont care about all the data lost and such.
Will re-flashing JP6 with Odin and wipe internal SD be enough?
Will that also reset the kernel back to the stock one?
Will that also wipe all the lag fix I applied?
Will that get rid of voodoo?
Will that get rid of everything Ive done and put it back to virgin stage?
Cheers
just remove any lagfix you've applied before flashing. do a format and factory reset, then flash it back. as far as I know, it's as virgin as it gets ;p remember to do another factory reset after the flash!
Is that revert the custom kernel to the stock as well?

same problem as voss i applied voodoo lagfix by gs tweaker after rooting it thru oclf it changed my kernel to [email protected] 3 now i want to return to my stock kernel i was on ddjg4 earlier i am doing this cause i am a total noob though my phone is rocket fast i want this cause when official froyo will be released i dont know whether kies will allow me to update it plz plz help
While your phone was pristine state, you could have backed up the Rom through Rom manager which is freely available. Otherwise use odin to flash your firmware.
Ya had i known it earlier i wud not ve called myself a noob now if i flash my old firmware using odin will i get the kernel back or can i update the official froyo with current settings

How do you do
1) a format
2) factory reset?
I can think of a few:
*** From recovery menu there are two options:
* wipe data/factory reset
* wipe cache partition
*** From the Dialpad in the phone, there is a Secret Code.
**** When the 'phone has booted, there is Setting -> Privacy -> Factory Reset.
What I really want to know is, which of the above does what? All the info I have seen has been poorly documented, or not at all.
I too would like to reset my SGS back to factory defaults, and ensure that all data and apps are gone, but I do not know which of the above to choose : I want to use the safest option. I read on this forum about someone who choose the Recovery Menu -> wipe data/factory reset, and nearly bricked his SGS. As a result he had to boot and enter the secret code (unsure how). ( URL is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817675 )
Hence my concern over the chosen method. Also, my phone has the 3Button-RecoveryMenu disabled so I want to be extra careful. Does anyone have a definiative answer, or is it always guess work?
Regards,
f
Last night I did a faction reset.
1) Settings -> Privacy -> Reset factory settings.
I think that all this does is boot into recovery and then run these fuctions:
* wipe data/factory reset
* wipe cache partition
I wish someone had explained this to me afore. However, it would be nice to know exactly which areas are deleted.
I know that /sdcard is wiped, but does the command only delete the files and dirs on the mount point (rm -rf /sdcard/*) or does it actually umount the file-system and mkfs the device? I don't know.
What or where is the cache area?
today i have flashed stock gingerbread rom jpjv6
everything go great i used odin v3 1.8 no repartition & no pit
when the phone turn on every program is force closing expect system programs.
did i do something wrong or what do you think is the problem?
did you try wiping it? i always factory reset after i upgrade or use a new rom so i rarely have problems esp problems like that
Wipe Dalvik cache from Recovery first, and fix permissions. See if it helps...

Then do a factory reset, as said.

It's an option in CWM Recovery. It usually helps fix FCs.
Hey everybody,
I have problems to backup my data with Titanium Backup. Everytime I try to Backup everything, my Phone reboots after backuping a few apps.
My Configuration:
ROM: Ramads Deodexed JVP
Kernel: speedmod-kernel-k15h-t21-300hz
MODs: SGSII_AOSP_Icons_TW4_XXJVP + GalaxySIILock_CMW3_XXJVP
anybody same problems, or an idea what can be wrong?
regards
Pretty sure this is because it needs to shut down system apps in order to back them up, what happens after the reboot? does it continue backing up? I may be wrong tho!
Insanity cm017/glitch v10c
after reboot, it does nothing more, titanium backup has stopped there...
sometimes i have to clear cache and dalvik cache that everything is working fine after such an reboot... do you have an idea how i can backup my settings or how i can prevent this reboots?

Try reinstalling titanium

Did any of that work now? Because I still have the same problem: batch back-ups will always make my phone reboot. Are there any other ways to back-up my phone?
For me the Problem was the TouchWiz 4 launcher I have used. Everytime the launcher get closed due less ram, the whole system freezes and I get reboots.
Solving the problem was as easy as installing another launcher. For me I use ZeamLauncher which is very fast and stable. With TW4 I ever had problems and I dont use it anymore..
Ah, I was using Go Launcher EX. Now I've already formatted my phone and decided to manually reinstall everything. But next time I'll try ZeamLauncher. Thanks!
Hi, im having problem with my o2x. Frirst phone started to behave strangely and every application has stop working. Error was
"uids on the system are inconsistent you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable"
and then every time i restarted the phone it was the same error again so i decided to reinstall rom. Than error was gone but other problem appeared, now after 3 min of use phone get frozen and than i reinstall rom again and phone get frozen agan.
Please if someone can tell me what is the problem and how can i fix them.
You have mentioned reinstalling (reflashing?) the ROM but you haven't mentioned a factory reset so I have to ask... Have you tried a factory reset?
Should i do factory reset on rooted phone? if yes how can i do that. I read somewhere that factory reset should not be done on rooted phones. is that true?
In CWM, You always have to Wipe your Data,Cache,Dalvik Cache,Battery stats.
Optional : Format System.
For a rom to function well, else it will get all kind of problems, like you have.
Of course if you install a update for a ROM, you only have to wipe the cache/Dalvik Cache.
Remember to make a Backup of your apps with Titanium Backup.
I didnt wipe Dalvik Cache and Battery stats. I'll give it a try. What does Format System do?
The factory reset basically resets your phone to as it came from the factory. It erases all your settings and apps, and is recommended that you do that when you change from a stock ROM to a custom ROM.
Having root has nothing to do with it.
Me personally I like backing up my apps and doing a factory reset each time I change/update my ROM. This way I make sure I always have a clean system each time. Of course this might not be convenient if you like flashing a new ROM twice a week
Wipeing Dalvik Cache, Battery stats and factory reset didnt do the trick. I flashed cyanogenmode nightly now and its ok for now. Could it be problem with the rom?
"Factory reset" (/data wipe) doesn't wipe system apps. If you had on your old ROM some "broken" system app, you most likely still have it. First thing i would do is full device wipe (/data and /system partition wipe). If you dont know how to do this here is the script and how-to. Be aware of that this script can brick your phone (ofc then you can fix it with smartflash) is you won't follow instructions.
After that wipe and ofc flashing clean ROM (btw. which is it?), it still isn't working, it's most likely ROM's fault. It could be Baseband<->RIL problem eaither but i've never saw RIL problem which has influence of system stability.
Are you flashing back to stock or a custom ROM?
If you are flashing to a custom ROM, you need do all the wipe-steps and then do BacktoEXT3 before flashing the custom ROM,

Ive installed ICS N7000XXLQ2_N7000XXLPT_N7000CPWLP4_HOME.tar replacing my old N7000XXKL3_N7000ODDKL1_INU. I have followed all the steps from STOCK roms page. But i have a few questions now:
1) I have performed a data and cache wipe, but i then turned the phone on back to check my CSC, i skipped all the Welcome to Android steps and just dialed up the CSC check code. Then i turned off my phone to install ICS. Could it smhow affect my phone in a negative way?
2) Although I have performed the cache and wipe data my Android folder Data still has all the Data files from games and apps which i had in my previous software. Is it normal?
3) when first launching the ICS even after a few updates I could not run any new app. Everything would keep crashing. Then I went back into the mode and did a factory reset and wipe thingie again. That helped and i can run newly installed apps. Need your comments about this situation.
Grateful,
QVA
1. Yes. Any wipe or restore on ics stock kernel can cause damage. You won't knoe until it's bricked.
2. Actually i had the same experience under lpy as this when it wouldn't clear the sd card when selected. My interpretation was that ics sd is mounted in a different section to gb and maybe they hadn't updated the kernel to look for this section? I'm probably way off there. I ended up doing a full wipe while connected to pc.
3. Mass fc's seems to be common. Firstly check your dpi setting, make sure it's above 213 as tablet not supported. If that doesn't solve, do a factory reset on a safe gb kernel before upgrading to ics again. Don't do any restores or wipes under ics kernel!
please hit thanks if i helped

How did you do it? I would have used PC Odin to do the flash, so you have a clean install.
If you already had a rooted ICS with CWM recovery, you would be best advised to either go back to a stock GB, root it and then flash the ICS of your choice after a full wipe.
Or you could use Abyss 4.2 to flash from an existing rooted ICS ROM.
now it s getting better

now after a factory reset and after usb storage format to remove all those files that were left behind durin softwasre reinstallation ICS seems to be working fine. No more fcs, it is working faster than Ginger. I used odin( the pc ver) to flash it.
should i do smth?
Games that used to lag are now not lagging or lag less. Sometimes menu gets a lag spike for half of a sec or smth but i dont mind that. So after that clean up and wipe which left sd files undeleted and then they got removed with a mass storage format i should not worry anymore? everything is fine and wont have any bad result in the future? I have a fully functional ics?
It looks like it. Its probably worth not doing any further wipes or restores under ics if you're happy with the performance. Samsung will be releasing updated kernels within hopefully a month or so, best wait till then.
please hit thanks if i helped
