Sound is screwy from time to time! - Motorola Droid 3

I posted this in droidforums.net and figured I would post it here also.
"I have had this phone pretty much since it came out. Every once in a while my sound is screwed up. It sounds like the speaker is blown in it and then all of a sudden it comes back. Some times I lose the sound completely. What makes me think the speaker is not screwed up is I plugged my transmitter in to listen to music in car and it sounded screwed up through my car speakers. Anyone else having this problem?"
Someone at DF told me it did it to him but when he installed mav rom it pretty much went away so I'm gonna give it a try. Maybe some devs can look into it and see what's up. If anything I'm gonna .sbf and test and if it does it still get a replacement.

I have had that issue on multiple droid 3's, on multiple software revisions, and on multiple roms. It also only seems to affect me on ring, text, or notification. I can not think of once that happened when playing music.

Has happened to me before too, both through speaker annd through the headphone out on multiple roms. Always fixes its self right away so…

I've had it happen on ringtones, headphone out, and on live hold'em poker game. Also had it happen though the ear peace when talking on phone. Its crazy! Normally fixes itself within 5-20 seconds.

This happens to me too, but is more widespread across apps. it happened to me watching a youtube once, it sounded really hollow and robotic. i paused and played the video and it went back to normal. also i have a super mario bros. notification tone that is already kind of polyphonic/robotic but every once in a while i get a text and it sounds like my phone is speaking Decepticon

[APP][IDEA] "whispering ambient"

my girlfriend inspired this great app idea.
its ambient sounds then maybe 45 minutes in it starts whispering demonic things.

anyone wanna pick this up? free idea scare your friends.
you can just make an audio file. And why would you want that? Every 1 minute sounds more logical. I can make that for you but for PC, unless someone tells me how to write code so it works for android. lol.
it's better in the market, you could suggest it to people.

[q] how many people use a ipod touch after getting a droid device?

I thought this was a good question because, after i got my Droid i saw little to no use for the Ipod touch, i just wanna see how the rest of the community feels on it.
If the battery life wasn't so terrible on my D3 here, my ipod would be almost obsolete, however, the ipod is a fantastic mp3 player, and having a 64gig touch, that's quite a bit more space purely for music than what I can get on my droid. Also, I am subscribed to some podcasts, and I haven't found a good podcast app for android yet, so, my ipod touch will still see a lot of use from me. I also have an old 160gig classic ipod, and nothin is gonna touch the storage on that thing for a while.

I used my iPod Touch with my rooted wifi tether on Droid Eris because the internet seemed faster via wifi than it did on the phone, but I haven't picked it up once since I've had the Droid 3.

Get Doggcatcher. You can download and stream podcasts, it remembers your progress if you have to stop in the middle and come back a few days later, etc. Very full featured.
We have two of them and they both collect dust to be honest my wife and myself dont want to carry a phone an ipod and such.
Google Music makes stand-alone mp3 players obsolete. That's what I use. I have my entire music library on my phone without having the actual files take up space on my phone. Of course, if you have a poor or no signal, it doesn't quite work. But you can cache playlists and songs if you want to have things available offline.
I used to have an ipod touch until I got Google Music on my Inc.

I just sold my ipod touch 32 gb and had no kinda feeling about it, I don't even miss it. Try zumocast its amazing if you have alot of media on your always running desktop.

I use it just for music now. No other use for it.
no, but the one thing Droid is missing is something like iTunes to sync / buy music. I know there are programs out there (I use iSyncr) that work fine, but it would be nice to have something built in.

Can't say I ever had an iTouch, but I do have (far too many) other devices. On the music front, I'm actually transitioning away form using my Droid du Jour as my default music player. More and more I find myself wanting physical, tactile controls. I've tried -- for years -- to find a dedicated Bluetooth AVRCP remote, but the closest I've found is overpriced A2DP pendants with crap battery life and terrible controls. Add the fickle hand of battery life, and I find myself reaching for the finest MP(3/4/5) player China can produce.

Is crackling sound in youtube common or a hardware problem? PLEASE HELP

Hi guys,
I have done some research on here for the last 2 days but I have not come across a definitive answer so I decided to ask outright. When ever I watch some specific youtube videos and play a few specific mp3s the boomsound speakers crackle with Beats ON but no crackle with Beats OFF.
Is this a common software problem with you guys on firmware 1.28?
Or is this a speaker hardware problem (therefore I need to exchange my phone as I am still within my 28 day exhange period?
If it is a software problem is it also true that firmware 1.29 solves this crackling but lowers the overall volume of the device?
I would really appreciate your feedback please as I do like the phone but I do not want to have to return the phone unless I definitely have to as I did manage to get one which has no gaps, screen isues, etc.
Phone is on firmware 1.28.401.7 and I am NOT rooted.
Thanks
What do you mean by 'specific'? I don't have any problems, a link might help to see if its only your phone.

Same problem here. It only happens in youtube for me so its probably just a software problem.
I'm pretty sure it's just the Beats software. If you download one of the Air Horn apps from the Play Store and run it with Beats on, it crackles like crazy. Run it with Beats off, and it runs fine.

Just tried it and you are right. My crackles a lot too.
So i guess it may be a software issue after all then. So my next question is does the 1.29 OTA solve this Beats crackling problem at the expense of lowering the overall phone volume? I am VERY curious to know the answer to that question.
I just tried the video and got no crackle on this specific video but .... I've heard it plenty of times on other YouTube videos so you're not alone.
I'm hoping this is easily fixed with a software update since Beats seems to be the culprit here. But like the OP said I'd like to know now so we can exchange the device if it's faulty.

My top external speaker crackles when i play music at a semi-loud volume and crackles with the video link posted above. I have searched around the web and it seems like this problem is very limited. Many people complain about some very low level pops or clicks in the audio when using headphones but this issue is different. It sounds like the speaker has some kind of mechanical issue. Sounds like the speaker is blown.
I really dont want to exchange the phone. :crying:
Mine ONLY does it watching YouTube. Everything else I have tried works just fine.

I totally understand. I have a near perfectly built phone and I don't want to risk exchanging it unless I definitely know for a fact that this crackling is a hardware problem. Can I ask, what firmware are you experiencing the crackling on?
I am on 129.1540.3. It crackles with beats on or off.
I called letstalk and they are sending a replacement phone. Crossing my fingers I am not trading one issue for another.

I'm not sure if my One has this issue.
With Beats enabled, I can definitely hear a "pop" whenever there is a cut in the video. Considering the audio quality is somewhat improved with Boomsound, I don't find it so distracting.
With Beats disabled there is no "pop" or crackling.
Oh, I am with 1.29.401.12.
My speaker has distortion and static when audio is played at any volume above half. The distortion and static is heard during the playback and not just before or after the audio is played.

Youtube App
I too have this problem the ota 1.29 has not solved it. When I watch/listen to music/film using the YOUTUBE APP I get the pop and crackling every few seconds. However if I watch or listen to the same stuff through the browser and mobile youtube I do not have the problem. Also via youtube app but wireless disabled and using 3g no crackle or pops. It's definitely something to do with the Youtube App and over wireless.
Testing via headphones seems to have no issues under any circumstances very strange definitely a software issue.
Try turning off Beats.
It pops a little in the bottom speaker. I think it is particles
similitudes some
I think is the speaker. Suck the usb port and the crackling gets worst.

Sound recorder in stock rom?

Just tried to use the sound recorder shipped with stock rom, only to.. not find it.. Hehe..
Unless I am suffering from early senility or something I remember quite loud and clear this app being on first One, replaced a week ago because of recessed power button.
Can anyone please clear this out for me, I am with Telus, 1.29.661.5
On the other hand there was also some music, maybe 5 songs, completely missing from 2nd device, I know the seller did unwrap and opened the box before my eyes, could it be he was a professional trickster?

Isn't it in the 'Notes' app?

There was a standalone app, called sound recorder or something between these lines.
Anyway, not a big deal, already installed a sound recorder app from market, it's mostly about confirming - or not - the seller's mischief, where he made me believe the device was new from box...

Bluetooth Woes

I hope other people are having this issue, and not just me. Here is the pertinent information:
PHONE: Samsung Galaxy S6 G920T, ANdroid 5.1.1, T-Mobile
CAR: 2015 Honda Civic SE
ISSUE 1:
Bluetooth quality seems to fluctuate between "high" quality and low quality. I realize SBC can only achieve so much, but it seems that frequently it switches to something lower than that, and the audio sounds like crap for a minute or two, then switches back to higher quality.
ISSUE 2:
When I connect my phone to my car, calls work fine. Music playback works fine (aside from issue 1). What doesn't seems to work at all is the phone sending track metadata to my car. Instead, it reads back "no title, no album, no artist". It reports being connected to my phone. The funny thing is that this feature DOES work with, and only with, Samsung's Music app. Not Google Play Music, not Spotify, not Plex, not even Milk. It seems that Samsung Music is somehow taking priority on what gets sent for track metadata, and when you are playing something in another player, Music is playing nothing, hence the "no title, no album, no artist" stuff.
Anyone having these issues? I have been lead to believe that Samsung is using the newest and greatest Bluetooth protocols, possibly leading to backwards incompatibility, which would be very unfortunate. Samsung is, of course, playing ignorant, sticking their heads in the sand, insisting that I exchange my phone for a new one, but I've read other people having these problems on other forums, so, I dunno. Anyone able to pitch in?
I've seen the same thing regarding metadata. I've not had the problem with audio quality though.

Everything is fine for me, no issues with Bluetooth at all, or with different players. I am running 5.0.2 though

No kidding? You get track information too?
Also using 5.02 here. My guess is that it has to do with the Bluetooth version on my car radio (factory 2012 Mazda 3 radio). Newer Bluetooth versions are supposed to be backwards compatible, but it seems that there are glitches. I've seen lots of threads around the internet discussing these problems.

I have seen them too. I wish there were an easy way to inform manufacturers about these things, instead of us just talking about the issues among ourselves. Samsung support simply told me that my device is defective and that I should exchange it with my carrier, which will probably put me back in the same boat.

Can you verify that the built-in Samsung Music app transmits this information properly? That seems to be the case with me, leading me to believe, actually, that the metadata issue is not necessarily related to a Bluetooth incompatibility.

Goodness, we've got quite the varying combination of tech here >_<
So, I just checked out my phone with my boss's 2014 Ford Fusion, and it worked just fine. Judging by that and the compatibility with your 2011 Toyota Corolla, @serio22, it seems to be an incompatibility with my Honda, which I can hopefully get resolved with the dealer. If not, I will be very sad D:
I've tried to get my setup fixed through my dealer, but they were unable to do anything. I've resigned myself to having to get a new radio if I want all of the Bluetooth functionality working correctly. In my case things are a bit worse because the Bluetooth sometimes fails to connect or may disconnect without apparent cause (much worse with Pandora than anything else). I'll try using the Samsung app to see if it works, though I just froze the thing today to see if that helps with some of my other problems.
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Premium HD app
I've had issues with my S6's Bluetooth in two cars. Both are VWs, with essentially the same radio, but one was a 2013, and one a 2015. In both cars, my Bluetooth media will occasionally pause on its own for a few seconds, then resume play, then speed up for a few seconds before slowing back down to normal playback speed. It's been happening across multiple apps, with both downloaded and streaming audio. Doesn't happen when I use speed headphones or listen through the phone's speaker.
I do get track metadata on my car radio from Pocket Casts and Google Play Music, but not from Pandora.
I've also switched ROMs to see if that was the issue. I was using OZOP versions 1 & 2, and am now on XtreStoLite 1.5, and that hasn't made a difference. I don't remember if it happened on pure unrooted stock during the time before I rooted my device, so it still could be a ROM issue, I suppose.
I had the problem with and without root; I don't think it makes a difference. I froze the Samsung Music app and that has helped my phone automatically play music in my car after connecting to the radio, so that is an improvement. However, still no metadata and still getting glitchy controls (press pause and it skips forward in a song rather than pausing; have to double-tap).
