[Q] Problem with native Dialer and SMS - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
First of all, my setup: Custom ROM JVZ odexed 2.3.6, Semaphore 2.1.1 JVZ, modem JVS, CristalBlue Theme. I have only root, no other changes like density etc.
I have a problem with native SMS and Dialer app. After few days, when I tap SMS it turns on (with list of SMS) and imediatelly it turns off... The same problem is with dialer. I tap phone, comes dialer, then tap some number (to find contact) and dialer turns off to home screen.
I had all contacts in phone, whole names and surnames only in surname (sometimes longer - 23 characters) so I tried to move contacts to gmail, erase all from phone, then synchronize, wipe cache/dalvik and fix permissions and all seemed to be ok, but after few days, problem lasts... This problem I have had even on 2.3.5 ROM JVR.
Other dialers don't have this problem, but I dont like use others, than native (SMS too) - theme is pretty and dialer simple.
It seems, like SMS and dialer, have problem between contacts nad syncing names in SMS and looking up for contact in dialer.
Does anybody now solution of my problem?
Thank you very much.
EDIT: So many devs here and nobody has any idea?
I tried almost everything. Could be problem with hardware? Where is call log stored?
EDIT2: Dont anybody work on BT fix for com.android.phone for JVZ ROM odexed? I think, that problem is with BT, so I would try fix, but none for JVZ...

Well, SGS was in service. They only flashed firmware and said, that problem is solved...
First, phone connected to KIES, but it wrote, that phone doesn't support actualization by KIES. Then, after cca 5 days of use(official firmware without flashing), problem with BT, dialer and SMS is back... BT disconnect, dialer turns off (no FC)... So, today back to service...

manilla 2.1 sms bug

Im looking to change the rom on my HD and see a lot of comments about the sms bug in manilla 2.1.
Im using Orange and from what iv gathered the bug affects Orange (and a few others). What exactly IS the bug and is it worth avoiding manilla roms 2.1 because of it?
seems to be related to the interface of SMS Manila where when You wrote a message, time by time the text still pending in the outgoing folder, so the sms is not delivered.
To bypass this problem, is what I have to do, is to replay directly to the SMS default page, instead of Manila interface...
I'm not to be sure that is clear, I really hope so...
Yes there is a bug in the Manila SMS application itself. You can either make a change and use the Windows default SMS application, use a different ROM with the older Manila, or live with it
you can't send 2 messages in a row to the same person, don't know is it only from manila or generally :/
hmm, i think it is how you sync ur contacts after flashing the rom. if you use pimbackup u will get the sms problem. however, if u sync via activesync, it should be fine. thats how i worked around the problem. hope it helped :]
I never had this issue and used activesync to backup contacts/emails
i've done it via Activesync, MyPhone, PIM, all options, without restoring old texts, with restoring them (again MyPhone) and got it every single time :/

I always use activesync to backup my contacts and calendar with google's gmail and always working.
Strangely enough, it seems carrier-related as well...
there is a cab, i think is call timefix that one work for me when i got that problem

ROM with not messed up SMS threads?

Hi, is there any latest ROM that doesn't mess up SMS threads?
Dutty's R7 with HTC messaging - u can't see the whole message if it's longer than 200 chars, same with Miri V12. Also tried Miri's V30 based on Manila 2.1 - and the problem there is even more ridiculous - in a thread messages are in wrong order, first goes all my replies and then the other persons txts.
I am using Jeyo Mobile Companion and PIM to restore messages and get the same results. Any proper ROM?
i think the problem lies in the backup program, they somehow restore them in the wrong way. I think it works via myphone (at least that what i heard).
The best solution is to not sync your messages, which i do .
I don't really understand why people have to put hundreds of old text messages back on their phone, they have read them right?
Anyhow, it is related to the backupprogram and manila not working correctly. Try using topix, in that rom there are no bugs at all (but it's a wm 6.1 rom)
Not really sure that this is the problem of the restoring programs as I tried different options. Tried also Laurentius V3 - again problem with messages that don't show in full and that lay over each other.
Anyone else having same problem? Or any advices on program that actually works?
I have the same issue with text messages being out of order on NRGZs Energy Photon ROM, the new 23081 build.
The issue is down to the date/time stamp on the messages. I had my messages going out having the same time but yesterday's date on them, hence the order being all wrong. I checked through all the regional settings etc to see whether all that was ok, but nothing was wrong.
It appears not to be doing it now, but I have cleared all my messages out and soft reset a few times since, so I cannot say what was causing the issue.
if you run manila2.1, whatever rom has this cab is ok
no, that doesn't work either...The usual problem: all my messages in the beginning, if I scroll up I find other persons messages and at the very top txts for today for both of us
other ideas? I don't get it really: what's the point in all the new cabs and functions if one of the two main functions - texting and calling - doesn't work properly?
sorry fr bumping such an old thread... but have been facing this issue with all the ROMs i've tried...it's highly irritating. i some times miss imp. smses
I'll test the fix cab and report soon...
In case someone has already found a working solution. please post it here.
B.U.M.P. guys.. anybody has a solution for this?? kindly help ..
topix for sure has no messed up sms's. dunno i tried lots of m2.1 roms and if sms were messed up i installed the attached cab and they worked
If you're using a backup/restore SMS program, you should disable Threaded messaging before backuping and before restoring.
I've noticed that backup/restore SMS programs have some problems with threaded messaging, but I have never encountered the messing issue since I disable Threaded messaging before both backuping and restoring.

PLEASE HELP!! Galaxy S removes + on outgoing sms causing message failed!!?? HELP!

I've seen a couple of threads on this across the web but theres nothing i've found that can fix it.
So,
I have a contact saved with 07... or +44...., i send an sms to them fine. They then reply and when i click to reply at the top i can see the number has automatically changed to 44 (no +), therefore the sms cant be sent and i get an error message. I have to close that conversation, go to the origional conversation and then retype and send.
Recieved sms, upon reply drops + and message failed.
This has only happened on a couple of contacts and others work fine. I have tried standard sms, Go Sms and hancent. None of them can resolve the issue.
I have tried 2.1, 2.2 JP5, JPU and 2.2.1 JPY (standard and custom ROMS) and all give the same problems with the same contacts.
There is literally nothing i can do to sort this.
I have tried deleting their contact and adding a new one, sync with facebook (get them to remove their number and add it in manually). Literally nothing i can do has got around this problem.
Please please someone help me. For a perminant solution i would be willing to donate via paypal.
Edit:
Is there any way to REPLACE the standard sms apk with a different one as Go sms and Handcent run off the standard sms app. Therefore, maybe a replacement (rather than an addon) would fix this bug??
Somethimes it hapened to me too.
When I tried to send it again for once or twice usualy it works.
Would be happy if someone can fix this.
please someone help!!? I will donate £10 (like $15,16ish dunno exchange rate)
Could it be a problem with the person who replies phone or network? As it only happens to a few it sounds like their phone or network is not enclosing the correct reply number with their text. Is that possible?
I'm experiencing the same problem. It only happens to one contact in my list. I've tried many things but cant solve the problem...

Sorry for late response,
finally i have got this sorted. i think it is a samsung rom issue either that or possibly go sms (although stock mms did it too). I am now running cm7 and have not had this issue once, if you aren't running cm7, i would highly recommend it, it is very fast and reliable, there are some bugs but it brings new features too. check it out
If deleting the whole thread fixes it, there's an app in the market that can fix it.

not recieving sms from unsaved numbers

Hello everyone.
I have a very weird problem. I just dont recieving from any numbre exept my contacts.
I already checked every setting in my messaging app ( go sms.) and in the defult messaging application. no spam filter or somthing similar is on.
I know the problem is in the device, I changed my phone and I received sms just fine. and peaple who send me those messages said they recieved the delivery report.
I'm on team union rom JB xxlsz V6. and the kernel is c.o.h's hello world. last version. baseband version is XXLSO.
any body have any ideas? I dont know if this is this roms fault or not, I really like it, and it would be a shame if it s the rom.
I dont even remember when did this problme started...
Are you sure the sms spam filter is not actice? Are you sure you are not using an app like call master, LBE or any other that comes with some kind of call and or sms filter? Have you tried a factory reset? If a factory reset does not help try a stock rom. If it works with the stock rom I would say there is a problem with your current rom. If the problem persisted even with a stock rom you would be facing a possible hardware defect.
Sent from my revived Galaxy Note
back to stock rom dude if its no an app or apn settings
well my problem is that I have lots of apps and I dont want to factory rest. and if I make a backup of all my apps, wouldnt the problem occur again?
I pretty sure that its not for spam filtering. because both messaging and go sms spam filters are off. and besides, there is no sms in their spam folder. to be sure, I checked my applications in application manager, and looked for apps that have "your messages" permison. and there werent any app that looked causing the problem.
and I dont know how apn setting could do such thing. can you explain what should I look for? my apn setting looked ok. I have been using it for long. the only strange thing was, in the latest rom ( I dont remember wich ones exactly.) apn setting wanted me to fill MCC and MNC. wich I didnt know because I never had to know. so I looked it up and MCC for my carrier was 432 and MNC was 11. and they are working fine. could this cause the problem?
Edit:
solved. sombody had made a folder in go sms, in filter folders. and every sms from strangers were there. its diffrent from spam blocking, thats why I didnt find it there.

[Q] 5.0.2 Dialer / SMS prefix mismatching

I have CM12 official fresh clean install on Andys CWM Touch. I hope this is a problem others have seen with a simple solution - though I have looked hard!
Have a persistent issue with the dialer and sms not recognising numbers that are in my phone book unless they are in 1 format.
+44xxxxxxx vs 01xxxxxxx
In all prior versions dialing one or the other was recognised as the same number, no more.
Result is unknown callers and sms without names of people in phone book. Any ideas for a fix?
