[Q] Loading icon and widget very slow on home screen - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Stock rom kk1
Stock launcher
RAM : most of the time, Free ram 100~150.
Loading icons and widget on home screen are very slow when returning from an app or from unlocking the phone after a long period of stand-by. (If unlocking the phone after a very short time, it won't happen)
I know some other devices has the same issue. But is anyone using Note has the same issue?
Is it the RAM or the launcher? Any trick or setting to fix it?
I've already used Sparepart and set "Fast" on the window setting.
Some people may said, don't use widget and don't use any live wallpaper. But this is something WE have and not IOS.
I was using Streak 5 with the same problem. I thought it won't happen on Note....but...
Please if anyone can help me out here....

You need to update your ROM to new version first. Then notice RAM usage and performance.

Widgets slows down phone

I was wondering what are people's take on widgets. For me it slows down my phone considerable to the point that it is unusable. All i had was the weather one, one that shows the time and date, battery and internal memory. Once i took all of them off the phone went back to normal. Is it just me or everyone else and aproximately how many widgets do you use?
It tends to slow down the phone a tad. I have a bunch of feed widgets, including weather and the retro clock and it seems to only slow for times when they are updating. Otherwise its barely noticeable.
A poorly written/buggy widget will do that, yes, but usually the developers are fairly quick at ironing theses things out. I had some issues with the Sky Weather widget and the Retro Clock one, but after a few updates they're both running without any noticable lag
I've noticed this too as well. I use to have a bunch of widgets, music, battery, weather, date, etc, but I've removed everything except for the sky weather widget.
I think part of the problem is that their taking up too much RAM which leaves less space for other apps to run which means a lot of swapping between ram and flash, which will definitely cause slowdowns.
I noticed that the htc magic has 288 megs of RAM vs 192 megs of RAM on the g1, so I guess google and the hardware makers are aware of this issue.

I only use retro clock and date, no lag since update for me. Not only do they slow performance but they also run in the backround and drain battery faster.
Currently I use two Picture Frame widgets, calender widget, weather widget, toggle bluetooth and toggle ringer widgets and sticky note widget. I cant really speak on the lag since I use setCPU and overclock 528mhz. There is no lag for me at all even with all the service apps I have running, tho every once in a while I experiencea lag returning to home screen. Not very often, about once or twice a day.
Yes. The widget slows down the phone a lot and I really couldn't stand the speed of it. Even clockibng it to 528mhz doesn't help...sigh
When u said u took off the widget. Do u mean took it off the home screen or do u mean uninstalling them?

If you have a class 6 SD card and want to run lots of widgets without any slowdown then download the swapper app on the market. This tool will utilize free space on your SDcard as ram. Be aware that this will decrease the lifetime of your sd card. I used it and my G1 is FLYING with tons of widgets on screen.
Ye definately the lag on the phone and when going to the home screen. When i say take them off i meant remaove them from the home screen. I dont know less battery plus lag because of the widgets is not a good thing at all. I am not sure if it is the OS's or the widget's fault.
I don't know about your mileage, but I just learned that (on my phone at least) the lag was being caused by having "Use Wireless Networks" for location services enabled. Disabling that, and my phone is snappy as it used to be. I had been seeing a lot of lag going back to my homescreen, now it is way better. I have the clock widget, calendar widget, music widget, search widget, and JS Weather widget running.
I had thought it was due to the dalivk-cache being moved to my ext2 partition, but moving it back internal did not correct the lag (it would take a long time - starting from a blank screen) to redraw the home screen). But once I disabled the "Use Wireless Networks", it has drastically improved. I am about to move the dalvik-cache back to my ext2.

I would think this would be related to performance in general. So if the phone is performing well, it rotates quickly. If it's performing poorly, it rotates slowly...
There's a few things you can try to improve performance. Overclocking helps a little, but it's not a huge difference. Keeping apps from auto-starting on boot helps, I'm not sure of a simple way on how to do it... Suggested method for preventing apps from auto-starting.
That same user also uses an app called 'DroidWall' to prevent apps from connecting without permission. Might help with performance as well (not sure, but it can't hurt).
Anything that will slow down your phone has to go. Widgets are killer I've found... As much as I like them, they made the home screen SO slow. On that same tangent of home screens, have you looked at different launchers? The stock 'Launcher2' is kinda slow itself. I like ADW myself - there's many others out there (Zeam, GoLauncher EX, Launcher Pro to name a few...)

So it rotates quickly portrait -> landscape, but landscape -> portrait is slow...? I don't think I've heard of that one... Anyone else?
I'm not sure what can be done to fix that to be honest... new one to me .

[Q] about widget locker

sometime when i use widget locker to unlock, there are little bit lag
like,when u unlock,will take a few second....but only on GS Note
i'm use GS1(i9000) before,is very smooth when i using widget locker...
is that GS Note problem???because i hear somebody say GS Note's ui system is bad
so,have some patch to solve my problem??THX!!!!
That's because the Note goes to deep sleep when you lock the screen. You can fix this by flashing a different kernel. Check the development section.
I tried it with rocket Rom. It still took a while to unlock. Maybe it because of the app.
I'm using rocker rom v22+abyss kernel3.8,but also have the problem. .....

Lag from home screen to app draw?

Hi all,
As title suggests really, I noticed on my Note 8 that swiping to the app draw and back produces bit of a delay/glitch when flicking between the two, even on high performance mode - Does anyone else have this?
Really annoying as the rest of the device is very smooth but at the minute, my old S6 Edge Plus on android 7 feels just as quick to use, which is disappointing.
The latest update to the launcher on the S8 got rid of that lag and added the ability to pull down notifications with the a swipe down motion anywhere on the home screens. It looks like the launcher on the Note 8 is a little behind so hopefully we'll get that update soon.
I use Nova with no lag.
I use stock and it's the fastest I have ever had on a Sammy between home and app drawer. I regularly swipe up down for fun as it's great to watch. Mybe you have an app slowing you down. Also get DEVELOPER rights in settings and turn off all those 1x speed settings on graphics.

Odd you mention that as mine is completely stock and I first noticed this when I first turned it on, so I hadn't even started installing my own apps yet.
Maybe I should re-flash it and see if that'll help.

laggy phone why???

its strange or its the same for everybody or just for me .
i have the exinos version and my phone and all galxy phone i had got the same lagg for years
if i use the infinity wall paper i got no lag but if i change the wall paper for home screen and for lock screen the moment i open the lockscreen to hone screen the animation lag again...when i slide the screen to open the phone from lockscreen to home screen isee lag in the animation when i have on the home screen icons its weird do you see that too?
The only slowdown I noticed was when I left my knox-secured folder, like 0,5s lag before it closed. Do you have a branded software or unbranded?

wondering if its not the launcher being throttled. on infinity theme they might have to get it optimized by not letting the system sleep some cores to allow a seemingless experience. when you change to static wallpaper, this optimization is removed to prioritize battery . but as we can see, it would be nice to get at least the same performance on non infinity themes/wallpapers
I disable and/or shorten animations in developer options on every device I have. Makes a difference. On the Note I use pitch black wallpaper from the play store. Keeps it simple and frees up resources. Those animations, etc take more cpu. So I don't use 'em.
Rich
Just get Nova Launcher and call it a day. NO lag.

Unfortunately any third party launcher still hanging or lagging when an incompatible theme used in samsung themes.
Default or some themes seem to help overcome lag specially in exynos note 9.

When the lag observed, open samsung members app n submit feedback as problem. Already submitted once but more submitting gives it high priority to resolve

Oh, I see. I tend to turn off most animations, or at least set them to 0.25 in the developer options.
updatek i found asolution that will kill all lag between stuff from lockscreen and home screen and beyond
we need to change in developer option only the duration animation to 0.5 little faster and its kill all lag check this lots time not even one lag great!!!!!
but change only the duration cause all the rest animation got no lag :good::good::good:

.25? Where is that?
And I think the OP is trolling. Have you seen the topics he is creating? But his iPhone X doesn't do this.
And I don't know why people keep thinking changing the animation duration to a lower setting gets rid of lag. It is just an option to cover up all latencies interacting with phone and to give it a little flair. Changing the animation timing doesn't do anything for lag. If anybody wants to argue the point change the timing higher and use for awhile and then go back to a lower setting.

Sorry, my memory failed me. I guess it's only 0.5.
Changing the animation definitely APPEARS to make things faster and less laggy. Whether it's placebo or not, I'm not sure.

Facing this lag from day one.
Somehow the default theme helped a bit but I am still not convinced n Samsung shall provide fix for lag.

Most likely everyone is experiencing similar thing but you just have a very low tolerance for "lag".

Hmmm, its actually annoying to see such laggy premium phone.
When samsung account is added, somehow samsung cloud auto sync n auto backup is on. Cloud sync always have additional lags. Disbaling cloud sync or removing samsung account completely seems to help in handling lag.
HI friends,
Just install the HTC Sense 9 ported apps like Sense Home launcher, Weather, clock etc.
Everything will work smoother and faster on this note 9.
