I remember i sold my Motorola RAZR (the flip phone) for $100 (i paid 20 cents for it on contract). The funny thing is that it was broken in half
The guy said he had several RAZR's and he used them for parts. I didn't complain. But it's strange that people will pay that much for something broken when it's cheaper to buy it new.

Supply and demand my good friend.

Auctions...some people love to buy stuff on them, even if it is cheaper elsewhere. Right now, I can't find anything worthwhile to buy on eBay, even new. I just use the place to sell all my used stuff, haha. Speaking of, 2 x Razr v3 I need to sell off.

Insurance for X1

Hello all,
I purchased my X1 from ebay and am wondering if any of you can recommend where to get it insured incase of accidential damage to my beloved X1.
I am based in the UK.
Thanks in advance
Well i know you can check if your Home Insurance covers mobile phone damage etc.
but otherwise im not sure
Insurance is money for nothing. Just pay for it to be fixed WHEN IT BRAKES, not before that.
do not listen to this guy above. as usual, he is talking about things he doesn't have a clue about...
I have insured my device with my bank account addons. I pay 7 pounds a month for mobile phone insurance, plus few other options (car breakdown, credit card protection, etc.).
if You are leading an active life or You are for example a construction worker (like I am) then it is a perfect thing. when I've dropped my hermes from the roof on to tarmac, I got money back, bought a new tytn 2 from ebay and still saved few quids for a beer or two.
... and just to make it simpler, 7 x 12 = 84 pounds a year. is it much for a complete peace of mind?

I pretty sure its much more efficient and cheaper to pay 7 pounds a month for insurance than pay £400 for a new phone. Unless you break the phone after you have paid over £400 of insurance which would take ages. When my phone broke i was about 6 months into my contract with vodafone which means i paid £41+£25 for a brand new xperia! Better than forking out £400 wouldnt you agree?

It is cheaper if you are going to buy a new one. I didn't say that. I was talking about repairing the damage.
I would not get it
hehe even better idea. Take care of your phones. You won't waste 100 dollars a year and you certainly won't have to pay $300-$800 for another Xperia.
But I am not the person you would listen to: my Xperia is ****ed up. But I still blame the poor choice in build quality.

Nexus 7 insurance

I'm starting this thread to discuss insurance possibilities to protect our beloved devices. Since there have been MANY reports of cracked screens due to the universal screen lift issue I figured it would be a good idea.
Im considering ZaggSafe

Best insurance is a replacement policy! Used squaretrade for mine. Even if I drop it and it breaks I get a new tablet. Costed like 60 I think.

I got the squaretrade warranty when it was discounted to $39. While I don't work for McDonald's (actually I did when I was a kid at $1.90hr way back when), it is still $250 and paying $39 to replace it regardless of what the reason is, it worth it to me.
Note that it is also transferable...if I see the device in a year to move up to something new, I can pass the warranty on to the new owner... adds value to the device for the new owner to ensure that if it craps out, they aren't out their money for a used device.
Personally, I think those warranties are not worth it. Then again, I've never dropped a tablet, laptop or even a phone before. (Knock on wood..err...Asus plastic)
Perhaps I'll change my mind now that I have a toddler running around, but 16-25% of the cost of the product isn't worth it to me, especially when all but accidental should be covered under manufacturer warranty anyway... and I get coverage through my credit card that doubles the manufacturer warranty.

Although I understand where you are coming from $39 to get my tablet replaced for anything stupid that I might do sounds like a great deal to me. I like you and have never dropped any phone, tablet, or laptop I have ever owned but the fact that if I do for any reason (Or my girlfriend, friends, parents, etc) happen to I get a new one no questions asked.

Under absolutely no circumstances does a low budget tablet justify a significant drop in quality control. Period. Done. Over. Fact.
To all Nexus 7 owners: I love my Nexus 7 like you cannot imagine. I would still recommend it to users. But I would absolutely have insurance on it. In fact I'm not sure I could recommend it without immediately recommending insurance for it in the same sentence... which really doesn't give credibility to how I feel about its build quality, but it is what it is. I was offered insurance and denied it. Two weeks later the screen cracked at some point when I was walking to my car, yet I never dropped it.

Yes it does, as long as you get the accidental policy.
The only thing it doesn't cover is lost or stolen devices.

Looks like I'm getting the coverage for $60.
I'm curious if you guys can clue me in on a little something about SquareTrade. I thought I read SOMEWHERE on the SquareTrade web site that this is only good for devices you've purchased within the last 30 days. Luckily I'm on day 28 (imagine that?) but I'm grabbing one right now. I do have to +1 ASUS, they claimed to have repaired my cracked screen and it's on a Fedex truck coming back to me now, but even still I want to grab a warranty to have handy in the event something does happen down the line.
That being said, I cannot find the 30 day thing any longer on the SquareTrade web site, but I did see a screenshot of a July deal where the warranties were on sale for like 15 bucks off the regular price, and right below I saw "only applicable to items bought in the last 30 days." Is the 30 day thing just applicable when you're buying an on-sale warranty?
Also, I put in 249 for the warranty and it came out to 50 bucks. But then I got to thinking, should I be rounding up? I re-did the quote for 250 and it jacked the price up 10 bucks. Does it matter? Should I be using 249 since that's the appropriate shelf price of the N7?
i bought mine with amex platinum and i think they double the warranty and offer replacenent, not sure how it works
i got reimbursed for dropping my macbook pro in the hot tub last time so i know they dont mess around

I just called SquareTrade. Their system works like this. With ebay purchased items, you have 30 days to get a warranty through SquareTrade. With retail purchased items (Best Buy, WalMart, Costco, any cellular store like Sprint, etc) you have 90 days.
So with me on day 28 having bought it at WalMart, I'm clear within the 90 day window to purchase the warranty. The only problem is with retail warranties I need to provide the receipt. I KNEW I had the receipt in the box, but the problem is I sent my N7 to ASUS for RMA. Even though it's getting fixed, I'd much rather not go through this fiasco again in the event it happens again, hence my interest in SquareTrade. I know I have the receipt somewhere, but I'm not sure where...
I wonder if WalMart will reprint me a receipt based on previous records??
Did anyone buy the Staples insurance?

$50 insurance for a $200 or even $250 tablet seems a bit excessive to me. Plus, there's a chance that, by the time it does break, the price would have been discounted or there'd be a newer tablet out anyway.
Everyone is different. For most people the warranty is excessive. I got it anyway. Fact is I can afford to buy a 40 warranty, but I can't afford another 250 bucks. If you can afford another 250 bucks, and your usually good with your electronics and don't have them around small children, it probably isn't worth it. But for me, the peace of mind is worth it.
Another big reason for buying it was the problems with the Nexus. I exchanged mine 3 times. The one I have now is good, but it's nice to know if something goes wrong I don't have to necessarily deal with Asus if I don't have to.
By the way, is it true that if you bought through the google store you can replace it through them for a year for warranty exchange, instead of Asus? Or was that just a rumor?

By the way, those of you who do plan on getting square trade, if you have 90 days take your time and try to find a coupon code or sale. I mistakenly thought it was only 30 days and rushed and bought mine with only 5 dollars off, whereas if I had waited a week they started that sale again for 10 dollars off the Nexus warranty. Which I was told I missed out on. Pisses me off, I should have called them and demanded the adjusted price....

Personally I think the warranty is worth it. It'd be one thing if the warranty was 50% of the cost of the tablet, but no matter how you slice it, 50 bucks is significantly easier to eat than 250. Period. If I had gobs of money sitting around where I know I'll always be in a situation where I can drop 250 on a new tablet without flinching, yeah I'd pass on it. But I'm not in that scenario, so 50 bucks to help future proof myself for another 2 years is a huge :good: to me personally.
A tablet is a device that you'll likely be carrying a lot. It's a mobile device. It's not something that will frequently be in a backpack like my laptop, or in my pocket like a cell phone. To be quite honest, I think warranties on a tablet make more sense than anything else... with cell phones close behind, of course. Just my 2 cents though. I didn't purchase a SquareTrade warranty yet as I don't have my receipt since I bought other things that day at Wal-Mart and had to send in the receipt for a rebate on another item. Wal-Mart informed me they looked in their records and can pull up my old receipt for a re-print so I should be okay.
I don't really think the build quality of the Nexus 7 is something that scares me to the point of needing the warranty. If you Google search for iPad screen cracks and sift through the users who say they did nothing to cause the crack, you'll see just as many complaints with similar scenarios. I think it's important to acknowledge that tablets as a whole just might be more suseptible to accidental drops and whatnot. Based on that premise alone is why I'm getting the warranty.

Seriously, that's an insane amount. My homeowners insurance is only $600 for the year, and that covers a $250K home. What a racket. Spend money on a one year insurance policy, for an item that already has a one year manufacture warranty is just insane.

Needing a motherboard or cheap AHD

Does anyone here have a broke screen Atrix HD with a working motherboard they'd like to sell? My phone went out the other day and I'm in the process of looking for the parts to repair it. So far the best I've found are $50 motherboards and $75 used Atrix HD's.....I'm tempted to get a used one because I can use it as my daily and stash my broke one in a drawer in case I ever need a new scree.
Called AT&T yesterday and their warranty expired June of last year (3 month warranty, wtf) and my Motorola warranty expired LAST MONTH. The gal, who sounded pretty hot, at AT&T suggested that I go to Walmart and buy a cheap phone...eff her...then she tried to pimp out AT&T Next...well you only have to pay sales tax then we'll add on the remainder of the phone to your bill at the end of the month until it's paid off. Ya gotta be some kind of stupid to seriously consider doing that. She then said that I'm eligible for an early upgrade with the fee of $250 + the subsidized cost of the phone....someone who does that is beyond short bus stupid.
I'd buy a Photon Q 4G, a hot air flow station, and solder my sim card to that phone before I'd go with Next or an early upgrade....Yes, I'm cheap. Very cheap.
And holy crap, Atrix HD's run from ~60-120 whereas RAZR HD's start around ~150...I didn't realize that .2 inches, NFC, and 8 more GB's was worth that much...

I found this one with a bad port:

You use the ghetto battery mod right? I would say that you should stick with the Atrix then as you can't mod the Photon or the XT925 with a bigger battery.
Maybe the people here (and other unified phone owners) should chip together and buy you a new phone.

I'd rather spend the extra 30 dollars and have a working usb port or $50 more for a used 886. And no, I haven't done the battery mod. With my average use, I maybe use 40-50% charge in my usual 16-18 hour day....I wish I slept more...probably a funny thing for a pothead to say...

[Q] Mobile Phone Insurance NEXUS 6 new UK

Mobile Phone Insurance NEXUS 6 new UK
Dear Friends,
I have just ordered 64GB Nexus 6 from carphone warehouse costing 549 quids. I would like to have an insurance for it as its really costly phone and i am really scared for accidental damage / theft.
I have been reading on net so many forums and reviews. It seems no policy is perfect. However i still need to cover this inder Insurance.
In your opinion and experience which Insurance I should be buying for this mobile phone?
Kindly advise.
Kindly reply...Awaitinf valuable feedback
plsss
https://www.gadget-cover.com/
I've just taken out this insurance. It looks okay (although one never knows till a claim)
I use Fonesafe and always have done. They will replace with new if it's within a few months and refurbished after that. I pay £8.99 a month and it's £30 for first claim and it goes up after. I've claimed twice over the years and I either got new phones or they were spot on for refurbished as I had no idea that most insurers actually replace with refurbished until recently when I had issues with CPW.
I also use Endsleigh for my gadget cover (everything else) and they charge less than £5 per month for £500 gadget cover but, I've not had to claim in the 2yrs I've been with them.
You could always self insure by putting away the total amount split by the time you intend to keep it. That way you would be able to use the cash for future devices if you can spare it but, you'd be rinsing your pot each time you do. I've tired this but, it only lasts until the next Nexus comes out so I've always kept using Fonesafe

[Q] Reselling a Nexus 6.

So i'm thinking about selling my nexus 6 on a facebook community buy/sell.
I usually give my devices to my family, but its not needed this time so i'm after some opinions on how much i should be asking for.
The phone is 3-4 months old, i lost the reciept recently but its around somewhere... 32GB, bought outright, so unlocked from any network, in perfect working condition. etc, there's just like maybe, 5 to 6 tiny little dints in the screen from keys in pocket :/. You literally cannot feel them, nor see them when the screen is on and takes certain angles to see them when screen is off (thats the only thing wrong with the phone, which i plan on telling on my post). I paid $876 AUD, do you think i could ask for $400-$500?
Opinions? If you were going to resell, what circumstances would you lower the price for & if you were i, how much would you ask for?
amazon is selling the n6 brand new at 399 for the 32gb version, so your $400-500 would be considered a joke, especially a device with a little bit of damage.
@rhystagram,
Your best bet is to go to Swappa.com and look at recent sold prices.

But Amazon is still selling it for much cheaper brand new. Most prospective buyers will look on Amazon first to see what prices are for both new and used.
What local retailers sell them for brand new means nothing when it can easily be attained somewhere else for a cheaper price.
I normally give people hell on those Facebook groups for asking entirely too much for a phone or tablet. Especially if it is used with even the slightest damage.
For instance, a woman was trying to sell a Droid Maxx for almost $400 USD claiming it was new and never pulled from the box, but her pictures clearly showed otherwise because of the damage on the phone and the fact that it didn't have any of the factory protective film on it anymore. The device in mint condition used only goes for about $150.
Basically, it's better to be fair instead of thinking you can charge top dollar for it. Much less troubles in the long run.
Good luck.

If you're looking for resale prices, check completed listings on swappa or eBay.

I agree with checking eBay or local buy/sell/trade sites for prices to get a feel for how much it will cost.
Note this, however: Amazon Australia does not sell the Nexus 6 that I can find. It is true that there was a Prime Day deal today in the states for it (pretty sure it's over now), but Prime Day is only for the US site, not for the international versions.
Plus $500 AUD is $368 ish USD.
Mate. Put it on Gumtree. You could likely get around 400 to 450 bucks for it if it is indeed in the condition you say.
