Samsung Official Dock & Syncing - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought an official dock, plugged it into the back of my PC and slotted my phone in, away it went into dock mode and started charging.
What I cant get it to do is to talk to Kies, sync the device or even into external storage mode. But if I take the phone out of the dock and just use the cable its fine.
Am I missing something here? Or is the dock purely for Audio output and for charging?

Bingo! I was very disappointed with this too. Maybe I should have read the reviews first

Nuts.
Balls.
Rubbish.

It's the same as the SGS2 dock. No syncing. Only charging and audio output.

Deluxe USB Desktop Cradle

I've got some problem with this cradle,
its strange cause if the delivered charger is put into the mini usb its loads the HD2 only if I use the "charge on usb" option in power settings but if I plug in the normal Leo charger on micro usb port (which normaly is for data) its loading like usual... are there any wires wrong ?
no one out there?
Do you have a spare battery in there? I thought mine wasn't charging at first too, but that was because my second battery was charging. I only have the supplied charger plugged into the mini-USB port.
I haven't tried what happens if i connect both micro and mini USB to the cradle and i don't have the chance to do that anytime soon, might be an idea though?
Annoyingly, the HD2 sounds were played to the 3.5mm jack when plugged in (which i don't have connected to anything yet), so my alarm wouldn't sound. I found the setting where to route the systemsounds (either to device or external), so that's no problem anymore

i found someone here in forum who has build a switch to change between sync and charge mode with the cradle delivered charger, but he doesnt answer my question how he did it....

hi,
the hd2 recognise a 'real' charger at the fact that pin 2&3 (the data pins) are shortend. so it can achive more then the 500mA that it can get from a (PC)usb port. at least at my charger things are handeld that way.

okay I managed to change my car charger this way but I'm not shure if I shorten the pins in the cradle with a switch to change between fast charge and USB connection if there will be some trouble with a connected PC...

[Q] USB Charging with Pc/Mac

I'm having an issue, and seems not just me,that I can't charge the Tab via usb connected on a laptop or a Mac book (pro).
I'm wondering if its firmware related, I've tried JID and JI6 same issue.
Are you guys having the same?
If someone is not having this problem can please be so nice to tell me the firmware version?
Thanks
no, you cannot charge the tab from a PC usb slot cause of some minimum power requirements which was the same way with ipad

No is not the same than ipad, ipad is possible to recharge with new macs (that what apple says on the web site, the don't say how new though). But is true the iPad has 2A battery versus the Galaxy Tab that has 4000mAh, I was hoping that there was a way to recharge it (slowly but at least to keep it alive when is connect)

Mine is the same guys... I left my AC charger at work over the weekend and have been charging it via USB the whole time... Slow but it gets there if you leave it on over night!
Mine won't charge unless I use the power adapter from Samsung
Mine does charge but slowly from USB.... you should also know that different PC boards and laptops have different power outputs.... in most cases, your tab should charge very slowly on USB power. Mine charges and has BT and Wifi on also... but with heavy use and plugged in to my laptop, it may offset and drain ever so slightly....
Same thing goes for car chargers... if not rated for higher output, it will charge VERY slowly. The original Samsung car charger has a much higher power output. If you can find one that has the same aftermarket USB car adaptor for Ipad charging, that should work too

The contacts on mine are upside down compared to an iPad/iPod/iPhone charger. The blade on which the contacts sit is also higher in the charger slot than an iPad charger. How did you get it to fit without breaking something?
Some PC:s (motherboards) have so weak power output via USB, that they just barely provide a mouse and a keyboard but nothing more.
So anyone should not expect it to be enough for charging Tab.
Tab's own power supply gives 2 Amps out!
My experience about car-usb-adapters: one can charge Tab, other quite similar for some reason not. However, both charge Galxy S fine.
Just something to keep in mind as an option... Usb 3.0 will give more juice to usb cables than current usb ports. Apple has "cheated" and already increased the power to the regular usb ports on their newer laptops on par/better with usb 3.. So... If you get usb 3 cards installed you'll have a port with enough amps to charge the tab. Easier/cheaper to just buy a pdmi cable but if you are about to upgrade to usb 3 its more incentive to do so.

Regarding the ipad charging you can use the below link to to download an ASUS program that will boost the USB power for Windows this works for the ipad and it's showing as charging when connected to my PC this may also work for galaxy tab

Charging using usb on my mbp does take a long time. I timed it and it took at least 6 hours to charge from completely empty to full. Its ok since I plug it in when I'm about to go asleep and by the time I'm up its fully charged.

Careful with that.
Seems it has the not-uncommon tendency to screw up USB drivers to the point that mice and keyboards won't work either, especially on Win7 and Vista X64 machines. It got me, had to do a system restore to fix it. Neat idea though.

USB port should give at least 500mA. But anything more is OK. So Apple can make their USB ports to give anything over 500mA and it is well within the standard. Actually it is good for everyone because if Apple port can give 2A you can use non powered hubs and have power for lots of USB devices.
Actually the Tab charges fine (albeit slowly) from a USB, you just have to be aware of a few things. Firstly as mentioned above some USB ports provide more power than others. Try the different ports on your machine and you'll soon figure out which ones work best. Secondly, while the Tab will display the "Connect your charger" message, it is actually charging. Go into Settings, About Phone, Status and watch the battery level. It'll take a while but will creep up. Finally, it charges faster when the Tab is switched off. ie: if you're actually using it, you won't get a charge, if you have it in standby with screen off, it'll charge slowly (takes most of a day for a full charge) and if the Tab is switched off, it'll go a lot faster (though still not as fast as with the power adapter.)
This is good to know as you can plug it in to your computer and let it set on your desk at work all day and know that it is slowly trickle charging.
I also found that plugging the USB cable into an Apple adapter (from an iPhone) brought up the same "Connect your charger" message, but did charge the Tab, faster than a USb but not as well as my samsung plug.

USB Desktop Sync Cradle

its too fancey for me, but i dont see why it would have any problems
Bought one - does charging fine for me - don't use it for syncing.
Cons - getting to buttons isn't the easiest when it's docked. It's a bit "fancy" and takes up a fair bit of space on the desk.
Pros - fairly cheap for a dock at the moment. If you feel like a bit of DIY you can remove the black docking section and wiring and put in a smaller stand bit. Next month's job for me.
I've also found this one:

I haven't seen any reviews on it yet, but it looks pretty nice. Comes in both black and white.

It will probably work, but you'll have same results (charging wise) as on normal USB. Without original Samsung cable, the tab will always open the USB connection window.
BTW; the tab will charge on any USB, even on your computer USB, only thing is it will charge slower. Also, it will state that the battery is not charging, but it will charge just fine anyways.
You may not be able to charge enough to keep the batter at 100% if you're doing some heavy processing on the Tab, but it will prolong the battery life.
You could make one of these for one side of the switch and then it'll switch the Tab to fast-charge. If you have it plugged into a 1A or greater power source, it should charge faster than just the standard usb trickle.
Or if you're feeling adventurous, just open that switch up and put the resistors inline on one of the usb ports itself.

I can charge the tab fine via my pc; although as you mentioned it indeed is much slower rate. I hate having to unplug from computer to power adapter when I want to get a full charge quickly; thus the switchbox idea.
I actually went ahead and order one, although different one from what I listed above. It was only $13 shipped so I figured I'd give it a shot. Also picked up a universal dock / stand. I'll post back how well it works and picts when I get it.
What about this one?

[Q] Modify car cradle to automatically enable car mode ?

Hi there,
I just bought an active car cradle for the Htc HD2 (Carcomm), no problem, working as expected.
Then I began wondering why the phone would not go into car mode when connected to the car cradle... If it's a car cradle, it should put the phone into car mode, right ??
So I was wondering what could possibly trigger the phone into car mode when connected to a charger.
Found this in another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=767961):
To the person who wanted to know about connecting pins 2&3 to 4 to create a car doc? Looking at the USB spec datasheet It's not that simple. You need to insert a voltage divider across the data lines and tie it back into the 3.2v of the device. A little more trouble than it's worth unless you are doing it for the learning experience.

and also from user dabigcheezze :
unfortunately it is a problem with froyo, whenever the phone is placed into dock mode, no matter what the charging input, it will only show up charging in usb mode, i have a homemade dock cable with pin 4 to ground, when i hook that up to my 1 amp charger it only shows usb, using a normal cable it shows ac charging, it has nothing to do with the HTC dock, it will happen whenever the phone is placed into dock mode, it also locks the vol output on the 3.5 jack 3/4 up....sooooo stupid.

Does anyone know about grounding pin 4 to enable car mode ? what about power, is the charger powering enough the phone while using BT, GPS and navigation ? Also, the limitations in Froyo are they gone in Gingerbread or could it be fixed ?
Thank you for sharing your experience, I would really like to have a car cradle working 100%
Nobody ?

Come on, I'm sure somebody did the modification... or tried to do it
Willing to share ?
Hi !
Just wait I can contact the guy I wish to buy that second hand HD2 first, then find an appropriate car charger craddle, and I'll look for a solution.
Don't know how to automatically enable car mode, but just solder the 2 middle wires in your USB cable together and you'll get 1A instead of 500mA, which charges way faster. Your car charger needs an output of 1A, of course, else it's just gonna remain 500mA.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it's true. I've seen this small hack to enable AC charging for cheap chargers that are charging with USB mode (400mA I think).
My charger was good enough to provide AC charging (1A), which is great, but not enough to enable the car mode...
What I would like to confirm is if grounding pin 4 will really put the phone in car mode when plugged into the car cradle, before doing it myself...
Do not hack the hardware!
Use a software
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8178010
Thank you for your response.
But... is it a software for windows only ?
I run Android on my HD2
Unfortunately, the software only runs on Windows Mobile :-(
So you have to try that:
http://translate.google.at/translat....cz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=73&p=1037#p1037
seen here:

I personally ordered the original car holder from htc and it is really a very good one!
Excellent !!
I think that if the mentionned modification works with a HD2 AND a Desire HD, the official Htc android software should work also, like the windows software in the video.
Thank you, it's great ! I will post here my results when done
Even easier - try using PhoneWeaver (can't add a link as a noob)
It's basically an app for setting your phone's parameters, based on all sorts of external influences, such as time, date, power source etc.
So, for example, I have the following settings:-
6:15 am - turn phone on, set volume to Normal
8:15am - set volume to low (for when I'm in the office - its a personal mobile)
4:45pm - set volume to Normal
6:45pm, turn wireless on (as I'm at home, and browsing is much faster)
10:00pm - turn phone / wireless off, set volume to low, start SPB Time (my alarm clock)
Additionally, I have the following:-
If external power is detected AND Activesync isn't running (ie it's not connected to a PC) then turn on Bluetooth and increase volume (this is because the only other possibility for this environment is when its in the powered car cradle)
If external power is detected AND Activesync IS running, turn Bluetooth off, but turn wireless on
It's completely brilliant - never fails and I never have to remember to do anything

It is definitely a bug in the phone. I connected mine with the Samsung provided Galaxy S3 charger and the same result. I even had all the options unchecked in the Settings > Accessories and still to no avail.
Maybe S3 Mini just loves the wall charger it ships with
Solution S3mini
The SOLUTION is: Open the micro USB connector of the car charger adapter with a sharp tool like a cutter. Cut one or both legs of the internal 200Kohms resistor, and that's all.
Try to close the rubber enclosure with a kind of loctite instant adhesive.
Kind Regards!
my s3 mini had a similar issue a while back - the phone used to think the headset was plugged in while charging, i just got a tooth pick and cleaned the charger housing carefully, and thankfully it has not done it since.
