Has anyone done this yet?
I want to restore the IncS to new from some case scratches but I read and see it seems like a tough job...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432289
Took it apart last week. Wasn't too bad. The only hard part is heating up the adhesive and removing the digitizer glass and lcd display. One word of advice: pay the money for the pry tool.

Do you use screen protection ?
The LG Optimus Chic I tried and returned was known to have easy to scratch plastic, so I had Bell apply their $20 iShieldz before I took it home. It made it feel somewhat rubbery and I didn't like that too much.
I'm planning to devote one pants pocket exclusively to the phone, so hopefully that will help, but sooner or later stuff happens. I DID enjoy that video of a Legend dropped/thrown onto the sidewalk three times... LOL.
Is the Legend known to have a robust, relatively scratch-resistant screen ? Is protection needed ?
Is your Legend "naked" or what do you use and why ?
"Naked" legend.
I'm very careful with my phones, my legend doesn't have a single scratch yet
My legend is "naked" aswell.
I try to use it as less as possible when my hands are dirty, wich they are most part of the day being a car mechanic. But after 7 months of use not a single scratch yet.
Cool, thanks for the responses.
So far 4 of 5 responded "naked" and I haven't voted in the poll myself.
So I guess I'll go without protection too. I imagine touchscreen response is best that way and you'd THINK a good product shouldn't need after-market protection. Although they might sell more phones in the long run if the phones got beat up quickly.
Ya being a glass screem it seems to be pretty well scrath proof, as I'd assume anything hitting strong enough to scratch will end up doing more than just a scratch. Though I do have a sticker on the back of the phone, as I have scratched the case a bit from drops.
Naked as well, no scratches so far

Oh, OK, now I see. The Legend screen uses glass and the Optimus uses plastic.
This is my first cellphone or post 2000 PDA and I wasn't aware the manufacturer had a choice of materials.
My vote is naked then.
I use a screen shield. If you apply it carefully, nobody will notice. Not even you.

I used to be naked until I put a considerably large scuff on the top of my Legend next to the headphone jack, so I got hold of a very nice leather case with a plastic cradle inside it. It's also got a magnetic latch and appropriate holes for the headphone jack, power button and volume buttons. My only qualm is that there is no hole for the USB cable, so I have to have the case open whenever I'm charging it or transfering files.
Moral of the story: Get protection before you dent your Legend rather than afterwards...
I got two free plastic cases that came with plastic films, so I just dressed it all up. I'm glad I did because I dropped the phone one day and I think it would've scratched if it wasn't protected! I don't really notice a hinderance due to the film but I do notice lots of little scratches forming in the film from use, so I'd rather destroy the film than the phone.
Previously I had a HTC Dream and I somehow got a scratch on the face even though I was usually careful with it.
I say atleast put a film on the front and give it a try. They're cheap enough to throw away without feeling a dent in your wallet if you do decide against it.
I used to have a film on the screen but I hated it. Now I use this case http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110592045657&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_600wt_907 I love it.
has anyone tried to use apple protections on legend...
nice screen protector
I don 't think we need any protection cause the body is strong enough and the screen is glass which cannot break ..

Hi,
I use screen protection for my Legend. I bay 4 protectors for 0.99$ from ebay
For now I'm satisfied.
I use a film protection for display and Gelaskin (i can't post link )
None. Used to have protective shield and a case first month, but didn't like the looks nor the feel.
After a year and a half of neither, just a minimal dent on the left side of the body after the Legend slipped out of the chino's pocket down on asphalt.
I'll never wear chinos again.
The Legend is durable enough to withstand collisions unlike other phones. Screen Guard isn't needed if you treat your phone sensibly.

It's actually Gorilla glass, so no need for a screen protector, had mine for 2 years now, I don't really baby it and there's only maybe 3 tiny scratches and they're not visible when the screen's on.

I bought original htc screen protectors and they are good
So one week into having my incredible, it drops on the sidewalk (2days before my rugged case came in) and the glass cracked/shattered. the lcd is still completely intact. I was looking at this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00424O7JK/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A3MB8KL7VKZGWY . And was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. I have replaced other screens in other electronic devices, but was looking for any tips specific to the inc or any recommendations on a replacement glass.
I bought mine off ebay and swapped it out. My opinion is to spend the money and buy the whole front housing. Removing the broken glass from the front housing was a MAJOR pain. If you are insistant, make sure you have a good straight razor and flathead screw driver for removing the sticky residue. Head to the local hardware store and get some double-sided tape. If you look in the Epoxy area, i found some double sided rubber material, like what they use for sticking pamphlets together, only a lot stronger. If you dont get it sealed real well, be prepared for lint to get between the screen and LCD. That is the major problem i ahve on mine. Like i said, definitely worth the money to buy the full front housing.
Thanks for the advice. I saw on some videos what a pain it was to get the old glass and adhesive out, but the cheapest I could find the glass with housing already attached was $99 vs $28 for the glass. I wish I would've seen your post prior to ordering. Oh well, we shall see. Thanks also for the advice on the double sided tape. I was looking at it online, but didn't thing to look in just a local harware store for it. I think i'm going to try some medical adhesive remover for the old glue, the only problem is I'm going to have to be really careful around the four buttons on the bottom. It is nice to see that someone has done it successfully though.
You can get the glass and the bezel seperate, but make sure the bezel has adhesive on the entire surface or else you'll get dust in the screen... I fixed mine though and it looks great. Ill post pics later

Which part of your phone is scratched?
Obviously the screen. (Topic is Screen Glass)
Yeah, but the screen is huge

Would be interested in seeing what a scratch from actual usage looks like on Gorrilla Glass. A pic would be nice.....as others is saying....it all depends on where the scratch is......if off to the side, or similar to a scratch in the clear coat of a car....I could be very livable.
Otherwise you could consider selling the phone outright on Ebay, and then buying another locally. You would be amazed at how high the prices are for slightly damaged phones.

I cannot understand... if its the screen, why would you be changing the internal instead of the external? Unless you have a scratch inside?

The product on ebay seems to include the front glass assembly? Including the touch screen?
I tried taking a picture of the scratch but it doesent show up on any pictures.
The scratch is ~1.5cm long on the left side from the edge towards the middle.
Now when looking closer I actually have some more small scratches but they arent as deep.
Im really starting to wonder if thsi really is GORILLA GLASS!
On my Nexus one I tried to scratch it with a knife pressing really hard on the Glass and no scratches. Wouldnt do this on the O2x.
Gorilla Glass isn't scratch proof, it's just more resistant. Stabbing it with keys etc isn't likely to leave a mark, but something like sand will.

Hmm.. the eBay link you given us doesn't seems to include the gorilla.glass??? Cheers dude. Gorilla glass doesn't means no scratch. Even titanium can be bend...

Why donĀ“t you try to put a screenprotector? Maybe it ill disguise the scratches.
By the way: US$350,00 for a digitizer? Sounds pretty expensive to me.
Yeah im gonna order Zagg's screen protector since I know those are of high quality. And it covers the WHOLE glass. Not just the screen part.
Is this all I need?

Thanks in advance!
as someone who's done the repair twice. Don't buy from ebay as they sell cheaper knockoffs.
Its actually pretty complicated and almost worth the money to send it in for repair.
Really.
i disagree, the repair was fairly easy if youre following a guide. ive done it once and taken mine completely apart twice. the most difficult part was separating the broken glass from the rubber part where it is mounted and getting the bottom part of the phone off without breaking it or leaving marks. I used spray adhesive to seal the new digitizer to the mount. I bought mine from amazon, just about the same price and came with prying tools. it was good quality with only a single miniature air bubble in the glass which is only noticeable if youre really looking for it on a full white screen.
if only your glass is broken that is all you should need, the digitizer. if the lcd is cracked or bleeding you will need that as well.
Hello guys!
It's my first post on this forum so excuse me for all mistakes that I have made
Some time ago i dropped my LG G Flex from about 0,5m. The screen have "spider webs" so it makes annoying to use it. Luckily the screen and touch layer managed to survive .
I searched web for replacements but i didn't find the glass. I only managed to find a glass with whole display. The cost of whole thing was about 50$-100$. The price of that part was too expensive to make it happen (i bought phone for about 140$).
Soo i have came up with bright idea. I was gonna remove the screen glass like this girl on video (Search YouTube for "HOW TO REPLACE A SMARTPHONE SCREEN!" uploaded by "everythingdiy").
Thing was very easy because LG don't have any physical buttons on front and the whole "frame thing" was attached to bottom layers (With samsung phones the "frame thing" is attached to glass").
After removing broken glass i cleaned everything up with just a tissue.
Next step was the easiest one. I bought online a tempered glass protector and applied it on my screen.
Here you go, everything is working very well !
I have payed for replacing my screen glass about 5$ (+ work with removing old glass)
I think i have helped someone with similar problems.
REMEMBER !! To preform this your display and touch must work !!! You are doing it on your own and i don't take any responsibility if you damage your phone !!!
what tempered glass protector did you buy? please can you send a link
also, when you remove the glass, was it attach to the lcd with glue?

I bought the cheapest one Any tempered glass will do the job.
The glass was attached to the LCD with glue. Make sure to warm up the screen with hair dryer or heat gun
You can try removing that glass at any point. Just google "removing phone screen glass" or something like that.
Remember it's not that easy as it sounds, the display is very fragile.
