[Q] Quick question - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys i have one quick question... if I flash a stock gingerbread ROM will it update my bootloader? do i have to tick anything else beside repartition? (i assume i have to use 512.pit file)

It will update your bootloader, provided the rom you downloaded includes one. And no to the latter.

[Q] Can I upgrade from 2.1 to 2.3 directly ?

Can i upgrade from 2.1 to 2.3 directly through odin ? or i must flash 2.2 first ?
thx.
some people say yes, I don't know why you couldn't but it isn't much to go to 2.2 first to be safe?
Yes you can it's a complete firmware not an update
Yes, you can. With odin you can go from any version to any version and back. You just need to flash a ginger rom with phone, pda and csc files + pit file.

You can find the stock rom from samfirmware.com
While flashing if you are using a single file then repartition should be unticked, if you are using multiple file pda,pit etc then you have to tick repartition
You are on gingerbread.
In my experience best custom rom is Darky's . you can try 10.2RE then upgrade with 10.2.1

you can roll back to stock rom at any time. for getting stock rom you can visit samfirmware.com
Once you flash the Darky its included the kernel. If you want to change the kernel you can change it later.

Short back 2 ext 3 question

Hey there,
i've never used it before so here goes my question.
Ive downloaded the r1-backtoext3-2x-unsigned.zip.
I'm told to flash this via CWM. So far so good.
Do i have to flash an original firmware first or can i flash another custom rom directly afterwards?
Oh and, if i have to flash an original firmware first, which one do i need to flash?
The BIN_LGP99_filenameblabla provider firmware or the 2x-v10b-1300166062-nvflash.zip via nvflash?
Thanks in advance guys
Flash whatever you like afterwards, but a few custom ROMs are going to convert you back to EXT4 again.

[Q] A Quick Question About Downgrading from LPF to GB

Hi everyone,
I am running on LPF ROM and I'm not satisified, especially with contacts not showing most of photos from facebook. So I would like to revert back to GB. I searched the forum and find the safest way is the using PC Odin with stock ROM
I am planning to use Open Europe N7000XXLC1. My question is
1-) When i installed LPF with PC Odin I used the bootloader filed file from the zip and now do I need a another bootloader to downgrade to GB?
2-) Should I check the re-partition box and find & insert a pit file to the corresponding slot?
I do not want to something wrong and brick my device in the process

1. You don't need any other bootloader to go back to GB
2. No.
Try this to revert to GB:

And if you get a bootloop after flashing:

I'm no expert but why are you playing with the bootloader ? when i was on LPY i didn't play with my bootloader going back to GB and everything is fine
P.S. stay off recovery mode until you are on GB again

Is it that simple? Just take a stock GingerBread version and use Odin? By GB version I mean that big file (600MB more or less) that is listed in Dr.Ketan post somewhere.
I'm also on LPF though.
Thanks,
Domenique

Simply download Stock rom and flash it following Dr. Ketan's method.
I was done that 1 week ago.

[Q] want to return back to stock from pre-rooted stock rom?

Hi
I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to flashing roms on my gnote and would really appreciate some advice. I installed a pre-rooted rom N7000XXLC1_N7000OXALC1 Open Europe (02/03/2012) (from bodivas's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1535025) a couple of weeks ago, all worked fine .
However, I would now like to UNROOT my galaxy note, and install the latest stock ICS rom for CPW region. I would be grateful if you could tell me how I can do this. The CPW ICS rom I downloaded only has an ODIN 'PDA' file, but there is no 'PHONE' or a 'CSC' to overwrite the files I flashed when I original flashed the pre-rooted rom.
Do I need to overwrite the 'PHONE' and 'CSC' files as well as the 'PDA' file in order to unroot?
Really appreciate any help,
Many thanks
No. Jusy flash the PDA file.

So the csc and the phone files that came with the pre rooted rom file do not need to be overwritten with replacements? why is that? Will flashing the new stock ics file result in a new phone and csc file being created? And also my gnote being unrooted? I would ideally like to have the corresponding csc and phone files that should go with the new stock ics rom.
Thanks
Yes you will get the corresponding csc of the rom you are flashing. Sometimes a rom is built with several files and sometimes with only one.
And it will be unrooted.
Thanks for your help man. Really appreciate it.
Just to confirm - I updated with a complete stock Open EU GB rom, and then downloaded the new ICS update via OTA.
So I should now be all unrooted and completely back to stock?
I'm not sure if you will know, but now that my phone is unrooted, and stock, should I be safe from the eMMC bug associated with ICS?
Many thanks for your help man.
Noone is completely safe from the ICS bug. But if you dont do a factory reset, nothing should happen to your device.
