Hi there XDAdevlopers,
I installed the Custom ROM Galaxian on my SGS i9000 2.1 update 1 ECLAIR
I ran into a litle problem, when it started rebooting, it just kept on rebooting.
I can't access the Recovery Menu nor the Download state.
The phone wont even completely start.
My specs: SGS I9000 8GB Vodafone NL 2.1 Update-1 ECLAIR
P.S. I don't ahve enough post to post this problem in the Galaxian Thread so I posted it here
- galaxian is not custom rom it is a kernel and i think it is unsafe to flash it on eclair
- youve got a bootloop because of flashing 2.3.4 kernel on 2.2.1 one
- you always can acces them just press volume down+menu+power during bootloop and hold it untill you will see the yellow triangle sign with 'working android'
proceed with
[GUIDE] Flash/Install/Update to Gingerbread 2.3.4 to I9000: Detailed guide for n00bs
if that doesnt work mate then try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236273
Good Luck
If you can't get into dl or recovery mode, then you may need to bite the bullet and get a cheap SGS "download mode jigs" on eBay. That's a sure way to get into download mode each and every time.
The only thing in question is if your internal SD died, but really the only way to truly find out is to flash back with a stock ROM...

PDA - i9000ddjvb
Phone - i9000ddjv7
Csc - i9000ddjvb
Firmware version - 2.3.6
Baseband version - i9000ddjv7
Kernal version - [email protected]#2
Built num - gingerbread.ddjvb
Pls help me n pls provide me step by step instructions as am an begginer n wanna root my handset .. pls help me out guys
Thanks.
afaik there's no rooted kernel for this rom.
you can try that, anyway.
1 - google for "odin" and download it on your pc. or take this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464775
2 - similarly, install samsung kies (so you have samsung drivers)
3 - download semaphore_2.7.4_sc.tar kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
4 - download original kernel from ramad's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
4 - turn off your phone, that press power+volume_down+home until you enter download mode (yellow pic on screen)
5 - run odin.exe (as administrator in win7). make sure kies is not running on your pc before running odin.
6 - connect your phone to pc via usb
7 - in odin select as "pda" the semaphore kernel. leave all options as defaults. execute it. this is done in a few seconds. this way you are rooting you phone (aka adding busybox) and installing superuser.apk
8 - unplug usb.
9 - let the phone reboot. then turn it off back again, and get once again in download mode (power+volume_down+home).
10 - run odin.exe (as administrator in win7)
11- connect phone to pc via usb
12 - in odin select ramad's jvb kernel as "pda". execute.
13 - start phone, to be sure reinstall superuser from google play
14 - you're done, now you are rooted with original jvb kernel.
I do not know if this is a robust procedure, but it worked for my italian jw7 rom, hope it is ok for you too.
after gaining root privileges, you can remove semaphore.apk from /system/app with root explorer (download from google play)
Do u think it ll work

since your phone is not rooted you have to use odin anyway.
"superoneclick" methods do not work with sgs1.
hence, you have to flash a pre-rooted kernel to gain root permissions.
after that you can flash the original kernel thus restoring the original state of the phone, apart from rooting it. you don't lose any data or setting, by the way.
since it looks like you're a cautious guy, I suggest you to study a little bit more thru the forum to understand how flashing kernels with odin works.
you can start by downloading odin, kies, and both kernels, and the whole original rom (you can find that in ramad's thread as well). Ramad's thread explains exactly how to flash with odin, btw.
I'm glad to help, but I'm not taking any responsibility on your behalf. do it at your own risk.
thanks broo ..

hey i followed d way u said n it worked smoothly .. thanks a loy bro .. and now u can u tell me how to go for a custom rom and upgrade my handset to ICS is it possible or do i need to make any more chnges to my handset .. lemme no asap .. thans in advance ..
I thought you wanted to root the phone for basic mods and removing samsung bloatware, not for flashing a custom rom. That's another matter.
if you want to flash a custom rom you need cwm recovery. this is a tool you get in "recovery mode", turn phone off and then power+volume_up+home to get there. some gingerbread custom roms can be flashed with odin, but as far as I know, you can't for ics or jb.
stock recovery won't let you flash any rom.
you do not have cwm recovery on your stock kernel.
to root any custom rom, you have to flash semaphore back again, and stick with that. with semaphore you have cwm recovery, so choose the rom you want to install and follow its thread instructions.
BUT: I've tried LOADS of custom roms, and never been fully satisfied with anyone of them. reboots, phone turns off by itself, limited functionalities, small bugs...
always reverted back to (rooted) stock. I'm never ever going to flash any rom but a stock one anymore. Of course you'll find different opinions on that on xda, this is just my 2 cents.
Lastest stock roms (2.3.6) are fast, smooth and completely bugfree.
Thanks in advance
hey thnks in advance but one of my frns has rooted to ics n he is telling tat phone works smoothly only for video recording and another one app .. rest works fine for him
anything for ram space .. i just have 364 mb ram wich gets almost full quite aftr using d net or running any apps .. pls suggest me any app or anythin wich i can do to increase my ram storage and other things ..

search threads for himem kernels. you'll find many of them. you'll probably get another 20 or 30mb. but I'm not going to suggest something I've never tried. current ram to me is more than enough.
regarding ics being faster and smoother, that's a matter of debate. my opinion is that the fastest rom around is cm7.2 (gingerbread), much faster than any ics rom. much more. At least among those I've tried.
the whole point about custom aosp roms is that samsung never released source code on some drivers, hence the little bugs here and there in cm7/9, ics, jb, and so on. that's why stock roms are superior, imho.
if you really want ics, move to sgsII or sgsIII

just to add to the earlier post, just in case you have never entered download mode before
For i9000 :- you hold the Volume Down + Home + Power
Note:
When using Odin to Flash, Open task manager and close these : Kies.exe , KiesTrayAgent.exe, and KiesPDLR.exe

According to me you should try PIT method while flashing
I too had similar problem where i couldnt get to recovery no matter which rom i flashed
How can I use PIT method ? I need Odin for it but I can't get into download mode because of my broken home button. Do you know another way to get recovery or download mode ? thnx for answering =)
Hmmm may be you can use a usb jig to force the phone into download mode

I've got exactly the same problem and was on Glory ROM with PhilZ kernel. I have found the following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886 but as I'm not a developer I'm wondering if there's an idiot's guide for idiots like me!
All help gratefully received!!
OK here's my idiot's guide
I did a bit of digging around yesterday and found a solution that worked for me. I couldn't get the phone past the N7000 logo - it just kept going black - even though i could hear the boot animation sound and the phone was working - only I could find any buttons that would allow me to answer the call!!
So...for an overview watch this - http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...brick-att-galaxy-note-sgh-i717-android-2-3-6/ I nkow this says it's for a SGH-1717 but the basic approach is right.
Then assemble your requirements:
1. You'll need to have Odin for PC on your PC (naturally)
2. You'll need to download a stock ROM - select the relevant one for your phone (not the AT&T one mentioned in the video) here - http://samsung-updates.com/
3. USB drivers for your phone - I already had them and if you've been playing with your phone and bricked ti you probably already have too!!
Then follow his instructions - it worked for me - yippee!!

For restoring to stock 2.1.1 from ,
1- you should use an application called flash tools(~70 mb)
for flashing also you have to download stock firmware from internet too.(200 mb) simply put frimware file (.ftf extension) into "firmware" folder of flashtools (not sure really about name)
Start flashtools & click the lightening icon" press flash mode" & simply flash stock from by pressing next & attaching the device just like the instructions.
2-for flashing custom roms you have to:
Place rom(in zip extension) to sdcard then go to recovery ( turn on the device, keep pressing "back" button when you see Sony Ericsson logo)
In new page( i mean recovery ) press full wipe/ factory reset (this will remove your data such as apps, contacts,SMS, etc)(& will not erase sdcard)
Then press" install zip from sdcard" & choose your rom ,press on it & it will install automatically
sent using" ultimate - ics - standard"
You can do it in jay-z-s's way but a better way will be to use Sony Ericsson Update Service. You can download it from here:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Then run the program and connect your phone to the computer and follow the on-screen instructions. Dont worry it will only tell you select your phone model etc.Its more user friendly than the other method.
OR
Download the stock rom for X8 from your computer and put it on the SD card of your phone and go in to recovery and choose"Install .zip from SD card" and navigate to your stock rom's .zip file and install it.
so i just simple conect the phone to the computer and use the program and i will get my android to V2.1.1 or V2.2? (sorry for the question is that i have really no idea with this)
If you are using SE's update service just connect your phone through USB cable. The service will identity your phone automatically. Go through the instructions listed there and you will be back to stock rom again.
To get in flashmode do the following : 1) Press and hold the power button at the top of the Xperia X8 to power the unit off.
2) Press and hold the "Back" button, while connecting the X8 to a computer via a mini USB cable. Continue to hold down the "Back" button until your phone is recognized by your application.
Or you can flashtool method by following the instructions given here : forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011071

Yes after using SEUS , the baseband and kernel will revert back to stock.
I think there's also a guide about changing basebands and such. Search for it if you need specific basebands...

Hello friends from xda, i have several issues with my I8190, ill list them below:
- Cant enable wifi nor Bluetooth, whenever i turn them on, they stay on "activating"
- cant flash a diferent recovery, the phone is on stock recovery, everytime i use ODIN to flash a diferent recovery, it says "pass!" and everything ok, i enter on the recovery and its the same stock recovery, tried with diferent ODIN versions and diferent recoverys, nothing works.
- cant flash a diferent kernel, everytime i flash it, its like nothing was done, just like the recovery
- i can flash a diferent rom, even a rooted one, but the baseband, kernel, and recovery, never change.
- when i connect it to the pc, it says usb was not recognized, doesnt even install drivers cause its an unknown device, only work in download mode for odin
i think its something with the bootloader, but im not sure.
my phone is:
Galaxy s3 mini GT-I8190 4.1.2
baseband I8190XXALL2
Kernel 3.0.31-639956 [email protected]#2 SMP PREEMPT Thu Dec 6 11:56:44 KST 2012
ive been 2 days looking and reading on most forums, can somebody help me with this? thanks

i dont know if that's possible, i checked the serial number and its official, the baseband is a unbrand release back from 2012, everything is good afaik, ive also seen other ppl with my problems but just not all of them at the same time, i even found all my problems on a FAQ here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2185700
but the last solution for the 'USB Device not Recognized' didnt worked for me, and without USB i cant use that program
Ok if there is anyone else with the same problem, i finally managed to install a custom recovery (CWM touch)
i flashed a rooted ROM, since i cant use wifi, i downloaded the terminal emulator APK on the pc, transfered it to the micro SD, then installed the app on the phone, and followed these steps:
put the .img-file on your external sd
Oper terminal emulator and type:
"su"
"dd if=/storage/extSdCard/recovery.img of=dev/block/mmcblk0p21"
Make sure you get the digits in the end right or else you might not be able to boot again.
This will write a recovery image to your recovery partition.
When its done, type:
"reboot recovery"
now i have CWM recovery, will try to fix the other issues now and post the results.
ok, with the CWM recovery i managed to install diferent kernel to try and fix the wifi and bluetooth problem where they wont turn on
the problem is, none of them works, tried like 5 kernels already and everytime i try to turn on the phone, it wont even show the samsung logo after the samsung galaxy s 3 logo where i shows the model number, it either reboots and enter a loop, or just turn off by itself.
tried installing a diferent ROM, didnt worked.
EDIT:
this is the message i get after i change kernel:
Oops
Kernel Panic!!.
Please connect the phone to PC
Enable capture and press the volume down key to get the Kernel Log Repeat if required
Press volume up to enter upload mode.
could it be the bootloader? could it be something else? should i just find a working kernel? help with this please
