Eh!
I'm considering buying this phone (uh...tablet?) but there are somethings that kinda get me besides the price.
The first thing that I want to know from the owners of a SGNote, how long does the battery life last for you. I'm a heavy user on my smartphones (My Samsung Focus can't keep up.) and most of the times I'm no where near an outlet. Also, External batteries any good?
Second thing, Do most ROMs support the S-Pen? I was thinking of rooting it and putting ICS on the beast, but I'm scared that the S-Pen won't function correctly after.
Lastly, Heavy Duty Cases? I'm rough on my phones.
Hi there!!
Would not be able to answer all of your questions, however will pitch in for few.
Battery backup?
As you already know it basically depends on the usage of the phone, wifi/3g always on with bluetooth and other connections heavy screen on time 3d games will dry out the juice quicker,
My experience
Bluetooth on for 5 to 6 hrs 3g full day, good screen on time... Lasts me a day and a half!!
This is with franco kernel.
Hard case availability??
Right place to look at is the accessory thread for note... Loads of reviews for the cases and screenguards out there... And it seems otterbox will be comming out with a cover for note soon... Some petitions as well going out there!!
S pen support??
All the roms support s pen and as you want to install ics, lemme tell you that its even better on ics rom,. When i say better I mean more responsive! Soon in the official launch of the ics by samsung we are promised premium suite ie a bunch of applications developed by samsung keeping s pen in mind!!
In my opinion its a great device and you should definitely go for it!!
If it helped click thanks
SHOT from my LOADED GT-N7000!!
S-pen is functional in the ICS ROM I'm using (Stunner). Samsung's apps don't work but there are plenty of apps that support the pen. Quill even supports the pressure sensitivity.
With heavy usage I get about 6 hours out of a battery. Normal usage, wouldn't know, it hasn't run out yet in that case. I would estimate 15 hours. The screen is a huge power hog

That's odd. On my Note it's the applications consuming much more power than the screen, the screen is actually the least of my worries there. I do use automatic brightness, though, perhaps that's the thing.

It's on top of my battery stats list with 41% of sucked power. That's with a lot of screen time though.
I think Note is a great deal for any one who wants a phone to be more than just a phone !!!!
Note is defintely one of the best phone made.
Battery last for very long, 10 hours of heavy usage with 3.5 hours screen time on.
Size? Definately not a problem, will be big at first, and u will get used to it very fast, because its amazing experince browsing, watching vids, playing games on the phone. other phones will look like a toy to u soon.
So far most of the rom maintain s pen functionality. There are so many rom to choose from, just look for the one with the s pen support.
Why would the dev create a rom for gnote that dont support s pen in the first place when the s pen is one of the best things on note.
Good luck mate.
wait.... and buy galaxy s III
no wait and buy the Galaxy S IV...no wait and get the Note 3
my SGN runs slightly more than 12hrs...
minimun running services, all black non live wallpaper and 0% screen brightness.
and i always have the usb cable with me just in case my SNG needs an urgent charge along the way in the office.

whatever the sgs3 has a lot will probably go into the next note so i may just wait till then.
I have been using the Note for four months now and it is easily the best device I have used over the years. Here's what I think you should consider.
You shouldn't buy the note:
1. If you have really small hands, I mean REALLY small!
2. You hate using your phone with both hands (you need to most of the time)
3. If you hate the weight (but frankly, its light for it's size)
Why you should buy the note:
1. Brilliant display
I have seen people complain about the Pentile Matrix but you can't spot any differences. The display is brilliant. If you notch up the brightness to full and play a 1080p video, you will know what I mean. The big size also means that the Note is a better. Reading is amazing on it, literally. You can zoom in and the text is still super clear. There are a lot more stuff to it too. You will see when you buy it.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K353JnA5QKg&list=UUFYR86TpcLB6aEag-oofN6A&index=10&feature=plcp
2. Battery
The 2500 mAH battery is kickass. It last thourgh a full day of heavy use or two days of low to moderate use. If one 2500mAh battery aint enough, you can get more from eBay. I bought a three battery pack with an external charger for $14 and they are doing pretty well.
Listing link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-x-2500mAh...100845?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item256f009bed
It is a bit disappointing when you use your data plan a lot. But hey, you cannot have everything.
3. XDA Support
I have seen highly active forums before when I was using the HTC HD2 and the Desire HD. I must say that the Note devs and forums are brilliant. People like Chainfire, Chris X and eybee1970 are all coming up with new stuff. There are at least 5 stable ICS ROMs now. This is something you cannot get with any other phone.
4. Games
I have tried playing big and small games on the Note and they all look great. Fun games like Cut the Rope, Angry Birds etc are brilliant as usual and the bigger display just makes it better. HD games like Modern Combat 3, Shadowgun and Dead Space are in a league of their own. But somehow, I never really ended up playing big size games much.
5. GPS
Take my word. GPS is Amazing. I get locked on to 5m within a minute sometimes and the chip is so fast. It can be your ideal navigator.
GPS Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arOYNNux_mg&list=UUFYR86TpcLB6aEag-oofN6A&index=7&feature=plcp
6. Connectivity
If you have been around the Note threads for a while now, you would have seen a guy named NZTechFreak post a connectivity demo of the Note. If the above features didn't seal it for you, that should. It describes how you can put the different connectivity features of the Note and make it function like other devices.
Here's the link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEb-DICYCgg&list=UUFYR86TpcLB6aEag-oofN6A&index=11&feature=plcp
For what I know, the Note is the best of the following:
1. A high-end Android phone with all features
2. A very good camera
3. A tablet like device that fits into your pocket and weighs reasonably less.
4. A gaming console wherein you can emulate all classic games, connect to a HDTV via MHL, use a bluetooth joystick and play.
5. A HD Media Play, wherein you use your USB OTG to connect to a 1TB HDD or a 2GB pendrive to see content on the go. You can switch with MHL and use with your TV.
6. A portable gaming console, which lets you play some of the best games out there on the go.
7. A great eBook Reader, that will easily last for several hours even if you continuously. The Super AMOLED makes the experience super cool.
8. A Internet device, using which you can view webpages the way they are meant to be.
9. Run Ubuntu on it and use it as a PC, with all features.
There are probably more cool stuff I can say, but you get the point
I hope I was convincing enough
Credit to NZTechFreak for making so many cool and useful videos about the Note

True !! this is only 1 thing I will miss !
As much as I like the 4X I am very disappointed with the battery life and the fact we cannot obtain root (well majority of us).
I keep looking at the Hong Kong version of the Meizu MX 4 core. Had a look at some reviews and un boxing vids and looks like a nice device. Has anyone ever used a Meizu device before? What are everyone's views on this?

I guess it depends what you want from your phone.
I am quite happy with the battery life and its definitely better after several cycles and the v10d update.
Couple of things struck me with the Meizu when compared to O4X though:
4.0" screen vs 4.7"
640 x 960 res vs 1280 x 720
No microSD slot
Micro SIM only
Personally don't like the design either, looks like a chinese iphone clone to me.
Of course it is each to their own though, everyone wants something different from their phones. I bought the O4X on the merits it has, that none of the other current flagships could give me.

I have the meizu mx 2 core, its a nice phone hardware wise.
screen is very good its almost 300ppi so no dif. really vs the LG phone.
sound in calls are very low even at highest setting.
sound from headphones and speaker is by far the best on any android phone with its wolfson chip.
but there is bad translations in english mode, u have to use locale apps to get right in maps and searches.
u have to install special apps to get into the "real menu" for sync accounts otherwise its flyme only.
almost all support is in chinese.
not much rom development on the device even if its the HK version.
if miui gets a release soon it might be good but i cant recomend it software wise.

Perhaps you have some battery eating app running?
I always have data off until I need it and WiFi only on when the screen is on and since v10d the phone drops about 2% battery overnight now.
Seems the saver core works really well in standby as that matches my sensation with a custom battery saver kernel.

sadly, i am starting to share the same opinion, NOT because of root options, but the functionality of the OS on this model.
it seems they handle sensors incorrectly, and without root, we cannot even try to fix it here.
- is it just me or is it very annoying that when you press power, it takes ages (2-3 seconds) before it responds and turn on the display? (when its in standby)
- when you hang up a call, is it just me or does the thing takes forever?, and the proximity sensor for turning on display when you move it away from your head, i know it can be modified, but why would LG have the delay soooo f.... long? HTC has none of these issues, its almost close to being tooo sensitive?

I don't have that kind of issue. Does it stay after a full wipe ?
I had a Gnote juste before the 4x HD. Every body was happy about Gnote battery life but not me. With to different Gnote under cyanogen, i had constant battery drain. I'm sure it was software, but i never found wich app was draining. For me, there was no way to have a full day without charging.
Lg 4x is working better for my usage. With green power, i lost maybe 1% during the whole night. The screen is far more responsive. Its seems to handle more precise finger position, build quality is top, size great, screen perfect.
Really a great little phone. i'm quite happy.

looking at your post, i did the test and gound that you are right! but it's been half a month since i got this phone, and i did notice it before i read it from your post... so there are no use case for me where it can be realy annoying, because we are always talking about 1 to 3 seconds!
also, mi old Galaxy S with CM9 isn't faster .
I am also waiting for root (battery life is ok for me since v10d although my wifi is on all the time), but since this phone is realy new, an not as popular as Samsung ans HTC's flagships, I know that it will take more time.

i had a Galaxy S too and still is within family reach and i do honestly not feel it was that bad. but yes we might be down to 1/2 a second, but the feel of this is a little annoying. but yes, i come to live it hoping i can fix it when its rooted but really, LG could have made it customizable. when they had to make it so strange.
everything here is fast, no delays, when calling, screen is intant on/off, also when the phone is laying around and i push the power button, i get nearly instant screen on ....
dunno why, i only have wiped the device before and after the 10D update

Are there any other reasons to jump ship?
Reviews talk about how far the display is from the screen? Is that bad?
Someone from LG told me that the 4XHD can record phone calls (when in conversation go to voicerecorder and start recording, you should hear a beep every 10 seconds orso). Can someone verify this? I know that the SGSII & III can't nor the One X.
Some reviews also talk about the phone being too quiet? How is the volume when ringing? When in a pocket or coat (in a pouch)?
How's in call audio? How's the earpiece audio?
I'm just wondering if when used as a phone the 4xHD is a better option then the OneX? The One X has a proper notification led which is bright unlike the one from the Xperia U (which the sales dip**** should have said before I bought the damn thing). The One X IS loud when playing music and video so assume it's as loud when ringing. The OneX's screen looks great. But it can't record calls which is important for me.
The price difference is about 30 euro's between OneX and 4xHD
Cheers.

OneX and 4xHD are both bad in terms of battery HOWEVER the 4xHD has a bigger and replacable battery.
Also 4xHD's screen is on par with the OneX and thereby the best I've seen to date. (Better than new iPad btw)
Had no issues with sound at all. Speaker is crystal clear (sometimes a bit too clear but still very good), didn't try the music with LG earpieces though. Other earpieces sounded good to me.
Volume of the ringtone... No idea. Didn't really care but haven't missed a call for now, so I suppose it's good enough.
4xHD also has an micro SD card slot (up to 64 gb) wich in my eyes is a huge advantage.
Plus I had nothing but good with LG so far.
You should only consider buying the OneX if:
You need the additional community support (LG will never attract as many devs however cyanogenmod will most likely be ported as soon as it's rooted. (Probably even officially supported))
You need the best camera in town (Except for Nokias 41 Mpix phone-camera of course)... read you need the fastest camera in town.
You need Sense. (LG's is more smooth and really (I mean REALLY REALLY) among the best, however it's just not as polished as HTC's)
You need Dropbox Space (You get Box.net space with LG I think. Too bad I don't really use that.) (OneX has up to 25gb for 2 years).
If you said no to one or all of the above:
Get the LG.
BTW For me Samsung S3 is a no no because of the design, the crappy touchwhizz and the worse screen in sunlight... But it does have the even larger community support and the supposedly less energy consuming processor.
Hey guys
Just to let you know if your having problems with the stock 4x then you can complain to LG about it. On their chat support you can ask to raise a VOC (voice of customer) then give them suggestions and improvements. When I talked to support the guy did try to help even though I don't have an optimus 4X.
I'm sure they'll try to help if they can.

Hi Everyone,
I've had this phone for a good week now and got some pros and cons:
Pros
- The screen is absolutely beautiful. One of the default wallpapers is the view of a mountain with a pinkish hue - the detail is unbelievable
- The overall response time of the UI is fast as all hell
- the feel of the phone in my hand is amazing. the rubbery back (black model only) and sharp sides is beautiful
- I have not had any issues with camera. I think the pictures and video quality is fantastic. Shutter speed might not be as fast as some other phones, but im sure that can be fixed with software/roms
Cons
- Battery is random. One day i will have 2h of screen on time, 1h phone call and battery will last me 18+ hours. The next day, i will have 1h of screen time and phone will drop to 60%. My battery is currently at 68% with 5hours off charge and 1h of screen time and 1h of phone calls
- the vibration function is outright useless. I can barely feel it when i type, let alone when its on a desk and in vibe only mode
- Call quality is some what random. Sometimes the person on the other end can't hear me properly until i move my phone slightly further away from my mouth, or sometimes closer. When that happens, they say that it sounds like im talking in a tunnel.
- the Exchange email app / email.apk is very frustrating. It looks nicer than it did on 1.5 - 4.3, however it force closes very often and using the Reply All button on an email automatically adds myself to the CC, which is very frustrating. That being said, im sure the excahnge email itself has a lot of drain on my battery too, so keep that in mind when you comment on my battery usage
- I have the power button rattle too. Not too much of an issue, but still a con
- I've also had 3 or 4 cases where i lost all reception and only a reboot brought it back. I also came to my phone and found it shut off once...
Now, i dont have any real problems with the speaker quality. its not bad, but its not HTC One quality either. to me, its perfectly fine, but i know others said they have issues.
I have vibration issues, and they have speaker issues. I have a black one, they have a white one. Coincidence?
What are your thoughts on my comments above?

For someone who is currently waiting for my Nexus 5 to ship (on 3 week backorder), this is discouraging. Right now I still have the ability to cancel the order but I could really use a new phone. Problem posts like these really make me wonder if I should keep waiting for this phone...
Had mine for 2 weeks. No problems here. I'm liking it more every day. Cheers

I know the feeling. I have received the phone 5 days ago and until that I was reading posts like this one. Until I got the phone I had low expectations but that was a good thing because right now I'm very happy with my Nexus 5. Stop reading about problems and start doing things that you love. When the phone will get home you will agree with me...
My experience
I'm sorry your having many problems with your phone.
I actually really like mine. Is the black one to.
I did a full battery calibration and I had 5 hours of hardcore screen time.
Vibration on mine is OK. But it makes the camera(Not the power button) rattle. But i hardly notice.
I like the speaker but I hope they improve the quality with an update.
My only complain would be the camera shutter. It is to damn slow.
Some mobile data connection lost but i think that is my carriers fault.
I'm really Happy with mine. And for the price this is an incredible phone. No stutter whatsoever on demanding games. It doesn't get as hot as my old Galaxy S3. Great media companion in my car and bluetooth 4.0 sips battery.
I totally recomend it.
P.S. Sorry for bad english.

How exactly have you done a "full battery calibration" ?

I know the feeling. I have received the phone 5 days ago and until that I was reading posts like this one. Until I got the phone I had low expectations but that was a good thing because right now I'm very happy with my Nexus 5. Stop reading about problems and start doing things that you love. When did you get yours? I'm hoping that these new ones that are being made and shipped on the 3rd of December will have the problems fixed...
let me clarify that i am extremely happy with this phone and i am just being extremely critical of minor issues
i strongly recommend it. its a 10/10 phone for me, for sure
i just wanted to point out the issue that bother me. obviously no phone is 100% flawless, but that should not discourage you

For someone who is currently waiting for my Nexus 5 to ship (on 3 week backorder), this is discouraging. Right now I still have the ability to cancel the order but I could really use a new phone. Problem posts like these really make me wonder if I should keep waiting for this phone...

The absolute best thing about the nexus 5 is kitkat, I think it is by far the best version of android.

Ice Cream Sandwich made Android approachable to the masses, and KitKat is the OS grown up. ART, when it goes mainstream and optimised even more, will make it VERY hard for any OS to beat. I also love that Android is being developed to ensure older devices are compatible, possibly reducing device waste through re-purposing.

Yes ICS was the base of what the OS is now no doubt, but I find kit Kat to be really amazing. I mean the nexus 5 is so smooth and fast and the UI is simple and super clean. I much prefer the white theme over the holo blue.

i've had mine for a week now and can't find any of the issues that you mentioned. I don't even know what this power button rattle is. maybe I'm deaf or not as picky about these things. battery life has been pretty consistent for me, It's currently getting better performance and battery then my S4 ever did
I love this phone, but the up and down issues are disappointing. One day I have really good battery life and the next day the opposite. Apps unfortunately like Pandora are still closing in the background. I am now debating if rooting and throwing a rom is worth breaking the warranty. Anyone else in the same boat?

I'm also considering rooting. I always used to with previous phones, but this time around I just haven't felt like it. I was hoping the latest OTA would improve the battery life...nah. Maybe a debloated rom like Xtrestolite would do the trick.
I feel very strongly that I shouldn't have to install a different rom or turn off certain features in order to have good battery life. Samsung should have made the phone thicker (bigger battery). I'm also shocked at the ram management of this phone.

You really shouldn't have to flash a ROM just to get what you paid for but unfortunately that's the case with the S6 and even then it isn't the phone it should be.
So flashing a ROM will help improve battery life, RAM management (biggest issue imo), and performance. When I ran stock experienced lag when I connected to WiFi, the phone will just slow to a crawl on top of that there were lag issues I was having when typing, switching apps (on top of apps having to reload!), and even just unlocking/locking the screen.
I emphasized improve because it's still nowhere near it should be, like at all. I still occasionally experience outbursts of lag that requires me to restart but it's better than before. I'm having serious buyers remorse with this phone and already made up my mind to jumping to another phone (eyeing the new Moto X Pure and Nexus 5) and ditching Samsung phones for the rest of forever.
I agree. I don't want to have to root in order to be plagued with the same problems.

Rooting this phone saved it for me, before I had to recharge twice a day and was lucky if I even got 1-2 hours of SOT. Now I get 16-18 hours with 4-5 hours SOT consistently. Root it and you won't regret it!

I did the Rapture 2.1 rom with unikernel v6.

Make sure to upgrade your baseband and bootloader, this instructions are in the file. Best rom I have used to date.
Thinking of jumping over to a Nexus in 5 months =/
As I came from a Nexus 5 and was already accustomed to having to charge frequently, the battery life has been fine, perhaps even 10-20% better than my old N5. I can't stand music apps shutting down and my LTE connection is wonky. If I go into an elevator and lose signal, I have about a 10% chance it won't reconnect to LTE after exiting until I reboot. My camera makes weird noises and has the ripple effect when launching. I also still haven't figured out why it vibrates every once in awhile with no apparent corresponding notification. After paying half what I paid for the S6 for my previous 2 phones, the Nexus 4 & 5, I had very high expectations for the S6. I think photo quality is about the only category where it has met or exceeded my expectations. My nexus devices also held their resale value very well while the S6 is tanking fast.

The camera noise is the camera senor optimizing.
You can change the ripple effect under lock screen> unlock effects.
The random vibrations is a new feature Samsung added in 5.1.1. It is actually an indicator that an app has crashed and most of the time you don't know what even crashes.
Doing a factory reset would help you if the LTE issue. Even I dont get LTE in an elevator, but it always comes back.
Yeah can't knock the photo quailty. Really hope samsung fixes the current issues before they release the note 5 and edge.

this is my first samsung product since i had the note 2. i gave up on them for years. i love the s6, great design, premium feel, good sound and much better battery life than my nexus 5 had. no remorse here at all. it really is like having a iphone made for android. its also refreshing to not have to have cm nightlies to flash daily, frees up more of my time. although aosp would be a beast on this device.

You will, trust me. Used a S6 for a week, ditched it already for a 3rd Gen Moto G, and that has 1GB of ram. It still multitasks better and runs smoother. I am waiting for the new Nexus. Take a look at this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQR5B-KuQ1M
While the Moto G cannot touch the S6 in terms of camera, display, and gaming performance, general tasks are much more smoother. I think Samsung git it out of the park with design, but not in software.
As others have said, the camera is fantastic, but there RAM management is absurdly bad. My device lags badly every day, despite resetting the device and clearing system cache. I get a weird vibration when taking pictures if I accidentally tap the side of the phone. Tasker cannot effectively work because it keeps getting killed (RAM management), Pandora rarely works correctly (RAM management), and apps constantly reload (RAM man- you know). I love the design and the camera, but holy cow it isn't worth it. I'm waiting until the next set of phones are out in the fall, then I'm switching (probably to the new Moto X).

I am coming from a s5 and had a m9 for a few weeks that I loved but needed to return due to cracked camera lens so I gave the s6 a try had the s6 for a little over a month and I was feeling the same way about a week or so ago don't know why it took so long to sink in just seems like the os started to get worse over time lag battery life etc, I came close to buying a g4 and thought about selling my s6 online. So I caved in, broke knox, installed rapture rom and now I have been getting around two days on a full charge, I haven't had much time for heavy use this week but its a lot better than having 50% by lunch. I feel that this should hold me off till the sd820 hits the market. I don't think I'll return to samsung anytime after this device. It's just sad that they have teams of people to make a device and a few people on xda can make it run so much better. It almost seems like they are being held back on purpose I guess to get people ready for the s7 next year. Either way if you are stuck with the device then ask yourself if knox is really a big deal, if you are within return policy then send it back! you should be happy with what you pay for.
I know I will root at some point. I'm just holding off for the time being. BTW camera is awesome lol

I'm considering rooting and trying Rapture 2.1. After 3 months with this phone, I was hoping that the stock ROM would be fine as is. In the past with other ROMs, I've noticed that the stock ROM is decent and the constant flashing of ROMs may not be worth it for me. The laggy experience and the terrible battery life with the current T-Mobile ROM makes me want to root and flash a better ROM.
Any downsides of flashing another ROM besides the following:
1. Losing warranty if you trip KNOX
2. No Samsung Pay functionality when it is released?
Yeah.
It really was a great phone.
How long now? 4 years? 5?
The screen is still fantastic. Big and wide and great definition and deep blacks.
The pen is not trying to do too many things.
The back cover comes off - and there's the battery.
Change the camera lens cover and the photographs are still excellent.
And the lovely metal work is elegant all the time.
It still manages all the games fine, boots fast, is quick with apps.
It's the best ok phone I've had - and I've had them all.
The note 10 is the first one that comes close. I like that they've kept it slim
But the Note 4 still rocks.
Ok. Bye!
Let me know what you think!
Why, of course, the battery is sealed now. Otherwise not much reason to upgrade year on year anymore. Phones are not leaps and bounds better from a few years ago. Only add gimmicks like in screen finger reader. Older flagship speed is enough if you don't play games. This world is sad.

Long may it last!
I haven't found an equivalent replacement yet. Sadly, iR control in restaurant/bar TVs seems to be declining...
I have the SM-N910C and I live in Brazil.
I bought it new in 2016 and until today never gave problem. The battery is still great. I almost bought Note 8 or 9 recently, as I needed more internal memory, but solved the problem by going back to Android 5.1.1 (WanamLite, which I've used once for a long time).
I was almost 9 Gb free. Now you will be much longer with me. The device is fantastic.
N910F is still my daily driver! I have modded the cr*p out of it, feels so good, fast, smooth. Hope to be able to use it for 4 to 5 more years.
Bought a LG V20 for my girlfriend, 130 euro. Might also be an option for me, in case my Note 4 breaks down.
BACK BUTTON TO KILL app (only works once)
I fully agree with you aboyut Note4. I bought my wife one and she wanted a 10. I told her I could make the guts do the same thing (plus I can't see spending arms and legs for the most rapidly depreciating item). I've got 128 memory card, one of those massive multiple day batteries, round magnet charger mini USB that jumps on (no plugging), happy as a clam!
Does anyone on earth know of an apk that won't turn off after 1 use back button to kill app? That's my favorite function and I can't stand not being able to close them as I finish except those I return to. I have the apk but I have to keep going into settings, turning it back on for a one time use. Ive searched programming apps but there's none on earth I see that will do the job, and my OS doesn't allow it (I'm still trying to get a custom ROM but having no luck, bricked my other phone yesterday (I think bad CPU sector somewhere based on symptoms).
Hello, I'm currently on a OnePlus 5 but think that it's really overrated coming from my mod friendly S5 mini. I plan on maybe going back to an older phone, because I don't really need performance for anything except Dolphin and Citra Emulator (the MMJ variants of course) but I'd be willing to sacrifice it, since I've seen myself using it only rarely anyway, but I'm a little concerned about 1. The community, since it's an old phone, even though it's a really loved phone. 2. The stylus - does it work on custom ROMs? 3. The battery - I'd definitely buy a 3rd party battery, since the originals will have lost a LOT of capacity, but going from a 10nm SoC (SD 835) to a 20nm one (Exynos 5433) is a little concerning. (4. The kernel and modding sector - Are there good kernels from honest people, not guys like franciscofranco, and mods?) I'd really appreciate answers, maybe I could be helpful because I'm still very young but pretty experienced with modding, development and that stuff, even though I don't even own an x86 desktop and don't even speak english as a native language.

It may depend on what version of the Note 4 you have or if you know how to port roms. For instance, i have a n910p and locked to the fused5,binary4 aboot preventing downgreading the bootloader. So stuck on 6.0 MM, so thrat sucks but the n910f is very similar in compatibility so that opens up other options. Theres also a GRX touchwiz home mod V8 that is pretty cool.
Im running a combination of Dtux Rom with an N7 custum kernel by freeza r61 and GRX V8 along with. alll sorts of ports from different develops. Thats just part of what I have done with the old N4.

Still Have My Note 4 & Note 7
The Note 4 with Android 6 still serves very nicely as a work phone. At the office, it does everything I need very well. The Note 4 is a better phone than my mom's Galaxy J7 from 2018. Note 4 was best choice am happy with my note 4
Now am using s10 plus & note 4 ♡
Note 4 is still my favorite of all phones I have had.
I am considering the Xiaomi Mi 9 lite.
It has quite a lot of features of the Note 4: iR port, SD card, oled, earphone plug.
No removable battery, no pen, no barometer. Oh, and doesn't cover so many bands. B12 seems missing.
Would also have some advantages over Note 4: faster, security updates, bigger screen, FM radio (ha), longer battery life, better bluetooth.
I love my note 4. It covers so many functions such as tv remote, portable mp3 player, book reader and movie player. I also love the fact that I can swap out deodexed roms and custom roms at will to enhance the device's longetivity. I do believe that there is no other phone quite like it on the market so I guess thats why I bought a back up note 4 many years ago ??
Yup we're still building
10 Android ROMs and counting.
Plus Ubuntu touch !
I am wondering if my Note 4 is finally dead. I love the phone and was hoping to still be using it but a few hours ago the phone just froze so I just removed the battery. After that, I put the battery back in and it wouldn't power up. I left the battery out for a 20-30 mintues and then put it back it. It was able to power on but after the Tmobil splash screen it goes to the screen before going to the home screen and when I swipe nothing happens. I am afraid my Note has finally given up after years of service. Is everyone else's Note 4 still kicking?

After several update over last year the phone started to be very slow. The final blow came beginning Dec 2019 when it did restart by itself and did install then 1 app. Usually will ask me for this. Since then the battery drains 10 times faster. So it is obvious that the update was meant to make me buy a new phone... But I like soo much the note 4.
First I did a factory resent. Did not help at all. Then I did flash it with Odin - now it works soooo fast, better than the new phones. But the battery drain continues. Fully charged in the evening I leave it in flight mode. In the morning the battery is only 50%. And this is with a new original Samsung battery I just bought. Will a re-flash with nand erase help? Does anyone have experience with this?

Is it hard for you to find or buy another Note 4 battery? I know it's old by today's standards but I would assume there might still be some new third-party batteries for it. I still have 2 new batteries from Anker when bought two extra for the device a year or two ago. Good luck on trying to find something.
