Hi guys, appreciate the help with this. I have rooted and have tried all sorts of roms on my Milestone
However with Cyanogen cm7 with Gingerbread 2.3 and other variances of the cm7 i cannot get any network coverage or cant connect to my provider. However my phone works perfect with the 2.3 AOSP roms...
Is there something obvious I am doing wrong? Am i missing something when installing cyanogen roms?
Help?

Yes...You probably need to apply the basebands of your region when you install CM roms.
You can do that in Androidiani 3.3 Open Recovery, on the menu "Change baseband"

Ahh OK so it has got to do with applying the basebands to my region.
I have seen this option in Open Recovery 3.3 . Is there any specific file I need to download or number I need to know before attempting to change my baseband.?
i live in New Zealand.
thanks.

No, you dont need to download additional files. Just go to Androidiani 3.3 and try applying bands until you get coverage. Many of the people apply RTEU and it works. I dont know what is the baseband for your region, but you switch between them and you will find the proper one.
Hope I've been helpful!

If you're with XT use the Brazil bb.

Where abouts in NZ are you? I'm also a Kiwi (Gisborne) and I have no baseband trouble at all on any of the GB ROM's, or any ROM's for that matter. I've never had to mess with the baseband and I move from ShadowMod to Cyan7 all the time as they release new updates.
What baseband did you use? Im having the same problem and I can't get 3g working for the life of me. I think it's a mixture of apn setting and baseband. Im on 2degrees btw.
I need help with this too. I live in Auckland and use Vodafone NZ. Originally, my milestone came installed with Froyo (v2.2) and it was the Europe version I believe......both 2G and 3G works fine on it, however I have problems with the wifi like many people have.
So then I later flashed to the New Zealand v2.1 SBF, and now wifi works fine but I can't get any connection to Vodafone. The reason is basically because Vodafone doesn't support Milestone, only Telecom XT does. However, if I switch the network from 2G to 3G, then I can connect to Vodafone. I can also connect to 2Degrees, I can see all 3 networks (Telecom, Vodafone, 2Degrees) when I'm on 3G and I get about 3/4 bars constant so it's stable.
But when if I switch to 2G, I get completely no bars and can't detect any networks at all. Not a big deal but I wanna use 2G to save battery. When I was using the Europe SBF (the v2.2 Froyo that came pre-installed with the Milestone), I was able to use 2G no problem.
Anyway, I think a simple baseband change should be fine, but I'm not sure which one I should use that works well with Vodafone NZ.
The baseband has to match your handset's capability. Xt units lack the Vodafone 900 band, they have 850 instead. Both carriers use 2100 in the CBD. Vodafone has also 2g network that has crap coverage. I'm using my xt set with Vodafone, but there's no point changing the bb as xt ms can't do 900 anyway. Basically get ****ty GPRS except right in town. It's only used as car GPS/stereo so no biggy for me.
but mine isn't originally an XT Milestone, I bought it 2nd hand on Trademe and the original owner of the phone got it from somewhere else. It's just that I flashed the New Zealand v2.1 SBF, which just so happens to be for Telecom since there isn't one for Vodafone......
Plus, it was able to work fine on 2G when I was using the Europe v2.2 (Froyo) SBF, so I don't see why a simple baseband change isn't possible?
Check the exact model number, most of the ones floating in nz are telecom models, no matter what the previous owner was using it with. You can change basebands as much as you want, if it doesn't match your hardware it just won't work. I.e. you will not have 3g outside of main centres. Afaik, 2g is the same on all models.
So, install OR, then one of the cyanogen based roms (it has all nz apns). Boot into or, there's a list of basebands - try till you get one that works.
Have you set your APN setting right?

Cyanogen based roms have all the nz apns, otherwise, you have to put the correct one in.
hey guys, got a incredible s that had cm7 and flashed it back to a stock sasktel fw i believe because calling didnt work. calling now works but internet does not..it has service and i can send and recieve texts and make and recive calls but cant connect to internet. In setting under mobile networks it says "use phone for data connection when wifi is unavaible" but when i turn it on it says it wont connect because service is unavaible even when it has full service! HELP
You gave to go to the apn settings and input them manually for your provider

Just a question what is the radio on the bell GB?
I'm on Telus so looking for the best signal.
I would try either arhd or unity btw, both great roms.

The radio in the Bell GB is version 1; most the the others floating around are version 2. The latest Sasktel GB Rom has the most recent version 2 radio and that is what I have flashed on my unlocked Bell IncS.

Android revolution HD is a great ROM to start with as it includes sense and is practically bug free.
Just got my Droid 4 and try to use it with GSM in Germany. I'm on the .212 leak.
However, I have no HSPA/UMTS reception. Not even EDGE. Only GPRS works.
I tried out everything, set it to WCDMA preferred, tried all the build.prop tweaks, nothing helped.
Tried out a different SIM, and I'm sure my APN is set up correctly.
It is not related to my region, my Droid 3 works perfectly here.
I think I have a hardware reception issue, but still hope it is just a configuration.
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

I'm not fully sure if the Droid4 has world bands in place. In the "Set GSM/UMTS band" I see only USA Band listed.
Also, do you have your APN setup correctly? Make sure the APN authentication is set properly, that's one of the bigger bugs out there with the new builds. Also, have you tried using a custom ROM?
The Droid 4 for sure has the proper bands for UMTS/HSDPA in Europe. Has to be an APN thing. Hopefully somebody else can shed some light on this, as I am planning to use my Droid 4 in Germany as well in the coming months. I know there is someone from Holland on this forum that has no problem using his Droid 4 there (he is also on one of the latest ICS leaks).
Does the foreign SIM card initiate some type of APN configuration when inserted?
As I said I'm really sure APN is correct, I doublecheckt it a couple of times. I'm also sure it is not an APN problem because data IS working, but only with GPRS. Could try a different ROM, but I doubt it will help, I had this issue both with stock Gingerbread and leaked ICS.
Were you able to get this figured out?
i have also problem to get data, it connects to network but there is no data. :// have tried everything with apn and network settting but no chance..
p.s.: i am on .212 leak
So did something maybe change from ICS build 211 to build 212? Did you guys have any problems on the previous leaks?
i dont know if it works actually with 211.. does anyone know if i downgrade to .211 leak from 212

Sure. Over at droidforums, there is a tutorial on how to do it. You have to fastboot GB 19 first, then use the unstick tool with the 211 Kernel, followed by flashing of the 211 ICS leak. I have been doing this every single time going from one leak to the next.

Downgrading within the ICS leaks works the same way as upgrading as long as you have the proper leak and kernel.
Do any of you Canadian forum members have difficulty with Data on the latest ICS leaks?
i can confirm that data on .213 leak doesnt work also in germany. i will try .211 later...
could someone send me the build.prop(.211) for compare before i downgrade..

So I flashed my ME863 to a brazilian retail XT860 rom in order to install CM9 in safestrap. However I lost my connection, no gsm. I discovered too that when I choose a radio mode in the menus, it auto selects the next one instead of the one I chose (not sure how to explain, maybe a bug?). I tried to flash willis11's old data patch aswell, but then the phone would get stuck at the CM9 bootup screen. Any suggestions?
Is it possible the "old" Willis patch you used was made for gingerbread (not ics)?

Tried it with the 'new' patch too. Same result. Thought the kexec cm9 had gsm umts native support?
Is the new one you tried the one from here http://dl.hash-of-codes.com/ROMs/solana/cm9/ ?

No it wasn't! It was from an old thread I found. Will try to flash it tomorrow. I will report back!
Edit: got radio working, max of 2 radio bars though. I think it's just visual bug?

Your ME863, is it from Asia region like Hong Kong or Taiwan??
Is the signal greatly improved after flashing to Brazilian Rom?
I have an ME863 from Hong Kong and signal strength is very disappointing. Afraid to flash it to Brazilian Rom and bricking it.
Hope you can enlight me pls. Thanks
The two bars thing is a bug indeed.
Hi. I'm currently on CM12 and I have been facing this problem(?) for a while now. Back when I was on stock 4.4.2, most of the time my phone is stuck on EDGE when I'm using my primary sim card (network A). In order to get 3G/4G signal, I have to explicitly choose a network operator. After a while, it reverts back to EDGE so I have to do that again. However, using my other sim (network B) doesn't have this problem. Now that I'm on CM12, I'm still facing the same issue. I can't use that fix since I think there's a problem with the rom itself when choosing the network. I'm thinking either this is a network error or a problem with the modem itself. I'm currently on NF1 and I'm wondering how to upgrade my modem to the latest one. Thanks!
Why switch modem if you think it's an issue with ROM?
Prerequisites to CM say nothing which modem you must have or that any of them are not good. CM don't change either bootloader, GSM or LTE modem.
CM provide RIL to communicate with modems.
QualComm based CM hasn't been able to manually search carrier since Aug 2014 https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-4902 and perhaps the decision to de-unify S4 CM can resolve this for Lollipop within a time frame of 3 months. [emoji12]
Please inform if you can find any chance log of what's fixed for different modem versions.

As I've said, this issue is also present when I was still on touchwiz/stock rom. And as you said, CM doesn't change the modem so the issue might be with the modem itself so I'm planning on upgrading to the latest one. Problem is, I don't know how to.
Just to be clear, I'm on EDGE most of the time on Network A on both CM12 and stock touchwiz rom. On Network B, I normally get HSPA+.

You should use the modem based on the country that you are using the phone as the bands available in each country and those included in the modem differ else you may have network issues, for more info refer to this post

Thank you! One question though, should I flash NI1_AUT_wifi_150107.zip as well? I'm not sure if that only applies if I'm on the WizCyan rom.
Just in case something wrong happens, if I go back to the stock rom using odin, will it revert back to the original modem?

Yes, the zip file applies to WizCyan ROM.
If you flash firmware the modem is included so yes it will revert to the modem in the firmware

Thank you so much! Will update if it works.
Edit: Successfully flashed the modem but I'm still stuck on EDGE. Oh well. At this point I don't what's the problem; is it my phone or the network?
So I managed to make it work by fiddling with the APN.
