Hello friends! This forum has been of great help to me and my device for a very long time. Appreciate all the help and guides provided here for the not so tech savvy people like me.
Just wanted to check for an opinion from you guys here. I have been having this ghosting problem on my i9000 where on a clear white screen, there is a fixed ghost image (or whatever you call it) of the pattern lock screen hard on embedded.
This is only visible on a clear white background. I have enquired in the local shops here (in Malaysia) but they all seem to suggest changing the screen and the digitizer but cannot prove that it will work and I would have spend more if the problem isn't fixed.
There are 2 links of the problem I mentioned here and I appreciate any suggestion from you forumers as to what would have gone wrong and the most probable component that needs to be changed as I believe people here would have seen more occurrences like these compared to the local stores here. FYI, the warranty period of my phone has already expired as it is a 1 and a half year old set. Thank you very much in advance!
p/s: i would love to add an image link of the problem but due to being a new user, i am unable to show this problem to you.
could you please upload those images on upload sites
The link are as below

I have the same, but less visible.
It's one of disadvantages of OLED screens - screen degradation. The more particular pixel is used, the darker it becomes.
In our example - previous owner left phone with lockscreen visible and long timeout set for very many times.
Only way to get rid of it is OLED screen replacement, warranty is not covering the screen degradation. Remember that the screen is integrated with digitizer.

Hi Guys!
I have a Touch Pro, but i thought I post here, because it's acually the same phone, and here it's more crowded..
I installed S2U2 2 days ago, and just now after waking up the device I saw S2U2 flickering in the background. Like it was a flickering transparant overlay.
So I turn off the device, and turn it back on..
Then when I got the Touch Pro logo (Pre-windows!!) I saw S2U2 stiill overlaying the screen!!!
So my conclusion is: S2U2 Burned in my screen, so if you have it installed i'd suggest removing it before it trashes your display!..
I'm going to return my phone.. hoping they'll repair it..
Cant take photos now.. but will do when i get home...
Edit.. Sorry guys.. changed my conclusion! S2U2 is not guilty.. TouchPro's/Diamond's display is
Sounds scary. Could you post a photo?
Found some information about this.. Thought it would be nice to share, since I will not be the only and the last one with this problem:
TFT monitors don't suffer from burned-in images.. But they do suffer from "retained pixel charge".. this will cause "Ghost images" (like mine)

Is Image-Sticking Reversible?
Unlike permanent burn-in in phosphor-based displays, which is the result of a premature aging of the phosphors of individual pixels, and thus, is irreversible, image sticking in LCD panels can often be reversed to a point of total invisibility.
However, the extent to which image sticking can be reversed depends on the severity of the causes that eventually led to image retention; top in the list is the environmental temperature at which image sticking took place.
A way to remove a retained image on an LCD panel is to run an all-white screen saver for several hours. It would generally help if this image sticking reversal operation were run at an elevated temperature of around 100 deg. Fahrenheit or 40 deg. Celsius. This should help speed up the reversal process.
Some manufactures would recommend instead using an all-back or dark gray pattern screen saver. Whichever method you choose, make sure the LCD TV or monitor energy savings settings will not turn the backlight off after some time of inactivity.
Other manufacturers would recommend turning off the LCD display for a longer period than the time it took for the static image to cause image retention.
While all three methods can help to remove image sticking, yet our best advice is to follow the manufacturer's instructions whenever these are available.

Seems like it will go away when I turn off the screen for a while..
So let's do that, and I'll keep you posted!
damn, try this on your diamond browser:
http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php
click the link on the bottom of that page after reading
Thanks! but the applet doesn't work on the mobile browser..
But i've created an avi of it (it works on the pc so Print Screen )
I will play that a couple of times!
Will keep you posted!
oh my god...
i can't understand how it happens.
do you turn off the screen while locked?
[i don't think it's a problem of s2u2...]
I don't think it's S2U2's fault either.. Usualy I turn the screen off. but today while charging through usb, maybe it stayed on, I didn't pay any attention it acually..
I made an wmv file with some flickering screens to stress the tft/lcd screen.. looks like it worked.. stressed it for nearly an hour and it looks gone..
I'll look for somewhere to upload it.. maybe someone else can use it too!
edit: here it is.. :
Click here to open the wmv, right-click save as to save it
g8 work man.
i wait a definitive release of sensorlock, so i'm using s2u2
but i pay attention to switch off the screen ALWAYS

Was just about to say that! Atleast the part with TFT cant be burned-in.

Hey guys and girls,
I got my brand new X1i on an O2 contract today, ordered through the internet.
However, when switching it on, the first thing that stands out is the screen isn't all black. The upper right hand corner fades to like a dull greeny tinge as if its under pressure or something.
After fiddling around with it, it seems to be the backlight as in bright light, the colours all look fine and black is black. This is also the cause if the backlight is put at it's dullest, but it's most noticable when its at it's brightest.
Is this a issue with all Xperias or just mine?
And is this serious and worth contacting O2 about or will it be okay?
BUMP.
Could anyone tell me simply if this is a common problem, if not, I'll ring O2 now.
A quick reply would be nice
I haven't seen it before and I haven't seen it reported before. If you think it looks out of the ordinary, too much to leave it be, you should indeed phone O2.
Cheers, I shall call now
Post a picture so we can compare and lets us know how it turned out, mkay? =]
Heres the best photos I can snap.
The first two don't really show it well, but the third is the best.
Trust me, when you first switch it on and the Sony Ericsson logo appears, the whole screen is black and that corner fades to that dull green colour. It stands out quite a bit, it's also noticable on the Panels screen.
If you have a dark photo showing, it can affect the colours on that too.
For such a pricey phone, I expect it to be flush black across the screen.
(They're big, so I left them as links. I left them big to show the detail)

I just got off the phone to O2, they get the phone from a third-party so I am expecting an email from them. The woman on the other end said, most likely they will swap it for a new handset at the door, or take it for repairs....but it will say in the email.
Ah, classic case of backlight bleeding. Send it back and you'll get a new one.
Well, hopefully, before next week is out I shall. Just waiting for that elusive email, they said I should have received it by Monday.
Thank you for you're help, I appreciate it
There was a thread on this, some have it too.
I have it as well, black light bleeding. I dont really mind it much since I rarely notice it.
Ive decided to leave it alone since my X1 is unlocked and it'd be a massive hassle to send it away to SE.
I'm pretty sure its common. Even high end LCD TVs have the problem sometimes.
I had it on my first x1 (which I dropped and got a new through insurance), and I've also got it on my new x1.
However, I barely notice it, so I'm okay with it
I wouldn't mind so much if it was white but its a green colour, thats more annoying.
It's gonna get sorted anyway, most likely, they'll swap it at the door for a new one.
I was looking for information about the SPB mobile shell and found this thread.
I also have this issue with the top right corner of the screen, especially when I switch the phone on (on the black startup screen with "experia" written in white).
After startup, I don't really notice the issue since this area of the screen is almost never black (except when switching panels and sometimes when watching videos, but it's hardly noticeable). I'm now wondering if I should return it or not, I got the phone on tuesday and already had to do a hard reset (and reinstall everything I had just installed before) because I couldn't send or receive text messages! I really hope this won't get any worse...
(My phone is a french version, and my carrier is SFR)
Ive had the same issue w/ one...i just returned to BestBuy yesterday and now the replacement is also doing this as well...1 day later
Me too, bugging me like crazy, but seems to be quite common.
- Anthony
Mine has it too but its really not a big deal. I've only noticed it on bootup.
Yeah, don't mind it on startup - who watches it start up?
But I notice it when using the camera (in the black border) and
when switching panels, that's where it's annoying.
- Anthony
yeaa, i got the same problem too. Went over to the sony ericsson centre and they don't have a clue what it was. They said they'll look into it, and thats it. No replacement.
Not happy
i live in indonesia by the way..
Mine too has the issue. Both upper corners are bleeding greenish. It's obvious when the screen is black, not only on start-up, all the time. For example, look at it when playing a movie trailer with really black scenes, it's there.
It has to do with the pixels, not the back-lighting, from what I understand of TFT functionality.
Remember the dead pixels issue on TFT screens? Well, the dead pixel means the transistor of at least one color out of the 3 (RGB) is dead, either locked closed or locked open (anyway, not being able to modulate the light intensity of the subpixel color), so the color is either missing or present at a fixed value, the overall color of the pixel not being the required one. In this case is an issue of mismatch of transistor parameters.
The GREEN pixels do not close completely to block the light. Being a progressive issue from one area to another, it's clear that the thin film transistors are progressively mismatched by the process errors. This is process error in the TFT technology (I work in microelectronics). The process masks can get errors (not the case here), or the masks are ok but the etching process is not properly adjusted. In my Xperia the bleeding gets progressive towards the corner, having a starting point like a center from where it spreads. That is because the etching involves chemicals and liquid flow to spread and cleanse those chemicals. My opinion is that the flow in the case of this particular TFT screen model is from the bottom to the upper side, where the upper corners are the bleeding areas for the chemicals and the effectiveness of cleansing is lower, combined with surface tension of the liquids. The transistors get progressively mismatched in parameters (beta factor) and since they all get driven with the same signal, they block the light less than the good ones. Nothing to do about it. Theoretically it might be possible to map out those pixels and provide a corrected voltage for the mismatched transistors (correction table in the GPU DAC ROM), but this is like tooth extraction through the ass hole (or replacing the spark plugs through the exhaust pipe). It's simpler to just get the ****ing screen right. Sorry guys, we are out of luck here. It seems the 800x480 3inch TFT's are not yet top quality, or at least the ones used by SE. I'm really frustrated that the manufacturer used a cheaper screen in a 600-800$ product. This is how a company can loose customers and get the image crumpled.
Hello,
I got a problem which I believe can someone with more experience help me with. My topaz got dropped on floor from arround 1 meter height and possibly on the display side. I didn't pay attention but when I looked on it after some time, I noticed black dots over almost half of screen. I posted image to this. It has irregular shape so I believe it's some liquid thing and not necessarily hardware fault. As my warranty ended 4 days ago, I don't think about sending it for repair. I thought about disassembling it and clearing the display from this stuff, but first I'd like to hear your opinion on this. If everything goes bad I believe new displays can be bought (although they're quite costy, so I'd prefer fixing it.) The display is fully functional other than that stuff on it, also digitalizer isn't broken and I receive right input all over that place. Colors inside that shape has a very light blue color tone when displaying white.
Dunno why, image doesn't display so here are plain links:

Dear forum members.
I know what you may be thinking this is yet another thread on Galaxy Note screen problems, I couldn’t bring myself to post in the existing thread only to have it be drowned under the 1,300 of old posts http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336187.
I’m not looking to fix this problem myself I simply need the correct terminology to describe this problem to a Samsung engineer for what will be the second return under warranty.
Display:
E.g. in portrait mode very fine small red pixels peppered to the top of the screen under the notification bar spreading out thinly to the bottom right, most visible with a gray or white background apparent with screen set on lowest light setting and or when in a low light environment.
I appreciate that this may seem a petty concern why not simply make the screen brighter but given my eyes have a sensitivity to bright lights this is not an option.
My phone has apparently undertaken a complete diagnosis and service or at least that’s what the letter from Regenersis service centre said.
In addition to my main concern above I list the bellow only for completeness of this report as they may be connected with the above screen issue:
1. Strange nuanced behaviour of the automatic brightness which turns my phone into a mobile disco.
2. Banding on low resolution images.
3.Backgrounds especially white changes shades for example.: it could take a pink-ish shade or a green-ish shade or a light blue one.
My sincere thanks for taking the time to read
This post might be of assistance to you. I'm not sure. I haven't seen these problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430847
Thanks missed that one have now bookmarked that page in regards to banding on low resolution images.
But unfortunately I don't believe there's any direct relation to my odd little red dots in terms or phrase that could be adapted for my purposes or at least none that I can see, but I'll need to give it a thorough read through to be certain.

Yeah, probably not. But, if you contact Samsung, I'm sure you can just describe "little red dots" and where they are and then Samsung will test it out and see.
Rose tinted glass
I've already tried to contact them although the Samsung customer service people try their best to be helpful, nor Samsung or it's employs can officially acknowledge this or any of the faults in my thread to do so would probably mean they'd have to do a mass recall of a lot of Galaxy Note's sent out.
The only thing they can do is recommend I make a service request which is what I'm doing for the second time.
The problem is the fault is so innocuous and almost invisible under normal bright working conditions that the engineer's can't see it, But once you've notice this fault it can be quite distracting it's almost as if half the screen has rose tinted glass
I guess it wouldn't hurt to pester them again I'll try and be more direct this time.
Well from my point view
the screen technology is led " light emitting diod"
this technology uses RGB colors , red blue green.
In every pixle there is a mixed of RGB .
Some of the pixels get damaged ; REASONS:
phone fall down.
Mnufactoring malfnctioning process in the screen.
expect anything that would hurt you screen
and if your device is still under warrenty . you are good to go
i hoped i helped

Exactly my problem.
Hi fellas,
We know our SGS is old but it still is very much capable. One thing with this device that can't be worked out is the amoled burn-in. I had my SGS's screen replaced twice due to burn-in, and some of you might think that "you've had your brightness settings too high for a long time" etc. The thing is, I've been using lowest brightness setting since I had the second replacement and for over a year burn-in still take effect. I know SAMOLED is superior in terms of overall display experience but the way I use my phone isn't the same as I use it when I first had it (meaning I'm used to looking at my screen and I don't bother the contrast/deep blacks anymore as I used to). I wanted to have a peace of mind using the device for long (4) hours browsing the web or playing a game or using an app without constantly timing in my mind that the status bar or clock is now a little more burned than yesterday, something like "at this duration use, you're blue subpixel is 0.00001% weaker". Those who suffer the agony of watching a burn-in on their displays understand this. So I was thinking of replacing my screen again with the SLCD from i9003 and I wonder if someone already tried it out or if it is possible?

Hi!
did you get any answer on this topic?
I have the sam preblem, i have a Samsung i9000b (the same screen as i9000), and i can get a scren from a samsung i9003.
Have you tried making the replacement with the other screen?
Thanks! have a nice day
