[Q] Change kernel and roms - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. There are roms that do not work with some kernels. My question is: if I have put a rom and kernel, I can then change to another rom with another kernel?
I must change first, the kernel or the new rom?
Thanks for your help. Greetings.

Yes. You could combine kernels and ROMs in many configurations. You should change kernel first, because it requires cache format or more likely full wipe.

1st kernel..
2nd rom..
and if the rom only support stock kernel
1st kernel
2nd rom
hope this help

DAFUQ kernel, SpeedMod 3-3 kernel, Franco Kernel R3 and above, CF-Root 5.6 (not older versions of CF Root ONLY 5.6 )
and Kernel used in Official CyanogenMod and Roms based on it and all known Gingerbread kernels are Safe kernels.
Before you play with recovery, flash roms, restore backups, perform factory reset make sure you are always on Safe Kernels.

I found this one
March 2012 / Android 2.3.6 / JW4 / Value Pack build:
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip
but as you can see it is CF-Root-XX_JW4
and i have XW_JW7
so JW4 is ok but What about XX and XW? does it matter? or i should flash this one only?
Following the root cf-kernel for kernel semaphore recommend cwm and flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
But if you want ics or JB, read the threads on the forum.

Help choosing Cf-Root version for Galaxy S2
Though I have posted here many years ago, please treat me as a newbie now.
I have a Samasung Galaxy S2 w/ Android 2.3.4. I would like to add Cf-Root so that I can manually upgrade to the newest available version of Android.
1. My kernel version is 2.6.35.7-I9100 XXKH3-CL479037.
I see there are two KH versions of Cf-Root:
"XX_OXA_KH3: Untested (by me) (thx to robbielicious for the stock kernel)
XX_XEU_KH4: Tested"
Which one is better for my phone? Is there any advantage in using the KH4 which was tested by the maker, over the exact match KH3, not tested?
2. Could you please provide a link (to a reliable download site) for the latest android version? The sites that were in the original post appears to have been shut down.

All you have to do is first flash PhilZ kernel for your current rom. This kernel has solved brickbug, have a new CWM6 built in, and it is rooted.
Tutorial and download links is here in original thread for PhilZ kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
When you flash PhilZ kernel, you are ready to flash Custom JB roms, which is far better then the "stock" leaked one, in my opinnion.
These "stock" leaked which you can find in android developement thread is flashable through PC Odin... if you want to try that one.
Choose a rom which suit your needs from Android Developement thread, read OP for instruction how to flash, and after that if you have a question, ask here
good luck:good:
thank you

These are baby steps... you dont need to be an expert
Go to system> about phone> and there you can find info on which rom you are now, write it here or take a screen shot and post it here.
there you will find on which rom you are... then download matching philz kernel for ex. ddlr6, ddlr9 etc...
but first write here what you have in "about phone"
when you download it, flash it through stock recovery, then reboot device...
I dont have enough time now, must go in town right now, christmas is cooming
nokiamodeln91 will help you:silly: he is an expert
I will back later...

If it is correct you need DDLRB philz kernel
here is download link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?1aib6jvsb8ya5s6
here are the instructions how to flash
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31911682&postcount=3
read a first lines or if you are lazy to read read here (you have two choices how you want flash, from stock recovery- no yelllow triangle or pc-odin - with yellow triangle, here it is a first and for me better option):
-Download xxx-signed.zip kernel matching your ROM (from the link above)
-Put the previously downloaded xxx-signed.zip file on your external sd card
-Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power)
-Select "apply update from external storage".
-Now select the xxx-signed.zip file you copied in previous step
-choose reboot
-You are rooted + new PhilZ-cwm6 kernel with CWM6
After that you are ready and safe to rock
Find a rom which suits your need, read and follow instructions in devs thread and thats it
Thnxxx..browser.. But I wanna ask the if I rooted by your way.. Will my warranty void for the phone... Or it will gone for forever....????
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
rooting anyway will void the warranty, but you can always unroot by flashing the stock rom
I had a problem with Philz Kernel.
It didn't went to deep sleep. Sony battery was drained sooner then hydracore kernel.
Any thoughts on that?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Philz is a stock samsung kernel, if you have problems on that, you need to check for wakelocks and apps sync

If HydraCore kernel works better, why you want Philz kernel? HydraCore kernel is great kernel, i realy miss it in JB.
You can check if your phone goes into deep sleep in many way, simple way is go into settings>battery> then touch a battery graph on top of the screen, here you can check Screen on and awake state. If you notice when your screen is of that the phone was awake (blue bar) then something is causing wake locks.
You can confirm that with CpuSpy app...
And if you want to know what is causing that awake state, install BetterBatteryStats, it will give you detailed information

[Q] Help with rooting and Kernels

Hi guys,
hope I am putting this question in the right area. I basically wanted to ask if it would be possible to root my HTC one, then NOT flash a new ROM, but only flash a new kernel. As I want to remain on stock, but get features like sweep2wake and DoubleTap2Wake; and maybe some features to help assist battery life.
Thanks in advance guys.

Yes it is. Unlock the bootloader, then flash a custom recovery, flash superuser ZIP and a custom kernel through it.
There is threads here how to root
Unlock bootloader first
Then download custom recovery TWRP
flash recovery and then flash kernel.
Easy as that.

Selling: Stock Recovery and Stock ROM

Hi folks,
Selling my S6 and want to put it back on stock recovery and firmware so that the buyer can get OTA updates. I'm currently rooted with TWRP and a 5.0.1 custom ROM. What's the easiest way to do this?
TIA.
Same as always you just flash the stock 5.0.1 .tar file or 5.1.1 ojc firmware There's links for it in xda.
If you have never used Odin on a pc there's also how to guide.
Please search first before asking Odin flashing guide is about the oldest and most basic topic ever discussed in xda
