Hello, i got a question.
I have a dutch Galaxy Note running 4.0.3(bought it at mediamarket) which i wanted to root.
my question is, is it possible to root the galaxy the same way american people root their phone? (i'm dutch)
If so, what is the best/fastest ROM?
My baseband version is N7000XXLPT
Kernelversion:
3.0.15-N7000XXLPY-CL474507
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT (date)
Buildnumber:
IML74K.XXLPY
Im quite new to rooting, so be nice
Welcome to XDA.
Before you root and start flashing kernels and roms read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633938

DAFUQ kernel, SpeedMod 3-3 kernel, Franco Kernel R3 and above, CF-Root 5.6 (not older versions of CF Root ONLY 5.6 )
and Kernel used in Official CyanogenMod and Roms based on it and all known Gingerbread kernels are Safe kernels.
Before you play with recovery, flash roms, restore backups, perform factory reset make sure you are always on Safe Kernels.
And please post questions in Q&A.

You're most likely to receive a helpful answer to your question if you use a short subject title that describes your problem and a message that explains in detail what your problem is and what you've tried to solve it.

Hello. There are roms that do not work with some kernels. My question is: if I have put a rom and kernel, I can then change to another rom with another kernel?
I must change first, the kernel or the new rom?
Thanks for your help. Greetings.
Yes. You could combine kernels and ROMs in many configurations. You should change kernel first, because it requires cache format or more likely full wipe.
1st kernel..
2nd rom..
and if the rom only support stock kernel
1st kernel
2nd rom
hope this help

Using the search function and reading before opening a new thread is generally considered the best way to go about it my friend.

Reading & searching is always a good idea but often if new you don't really know what to search for so here is a little help.
If you just want root then go to cf-root Read through at least the first post. it is a lot but very helpful.
What you usually want is the cf-root with the last three characters of your build number. If it doesn't match try get one that is close. If you plan to flash a custom ROM then it doesn't matter to much which one you have.
If you want an easy way to have root and the ability to flash custom ROMS you may as well start with DarkyResurrection. It has an easy to follow thread and the download has everything you need in one download.
Alternatively if your goal is to get ICS then here are two tutorials that will get you through the whole process from beginning to end which I recommend doing either one of. Once done you will be in a great position to move onto any ICS ROM, Kernel or Modem you like. My personal favourite is Slim ICS with semaphore.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966 (slightly more current ROM)

List of Modems
Lastly a great Samsung Galaxy Resource site: SamMobile. You need to register but it is free.
There are 2 ways that I know of to root your phone depending on what you want to do going ahead.
If you want to install a custom rom, then follow the instructions given above.
But if you want to keep your stock rom and root your phone to install some apps that work only on rooted phones then I would suggest that you use the SuperOneClick method.
Let me know if you need instructions for the SuperOneClick method and I will be happy to share it with you.
Cheers

Install samsung kies and update to gingerbread. Then do cf-root.
I would advise to first upgrade to GB, which is much better version of OS than Eclair. If you are not able to upgrade using kies, you learn how to upgrade here: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum/threads/samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000-flashing-to-original-rom.46/
Then how to root here: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...-i9000-rooting-gt-i9000-2-3-3-india-ddjv9.47/

Sorry ratl0lz, but this is not spamming. I have already written something for helping others and just asking them to visit the page instead of reproducing everything here. Just writing "CF ROOT" may not help for someone who does not know things as good as you know.

I found this one
March 2012 / Android 2.3.6 / JW4 / Value Pack build:
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip
but as you can see it is CF-Root-XX_JW4
and i have XW_JW7
so JW4 is ok but What about XX and XW? does it matter? or i should flash this one only?
Following the root cf-kernel for kernel semaphore recommend cwm and flash.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
But if you want ics or JB, read the threads on the forum.

Help choosing Cf-Root version for Galaxy S2
Though I have posted here many years ago, please treat me as a newbie now.
I have a Samasung Galaxy S2 w/ Android 2.3.4. I would like to add Cf-Root so that I can manually upgrade to the newest available version of Android.
1. My kernel version is 2.6.35.7-I9100 XXKH3-CL479037.
I see there are two KH versions of Cf-Root:
"XX_OXA_KH3: Untested (by me) (thx to robbielicious for the stock kernel)
XX_XEU_KH4: Tested"
Which one is better for my phone? Is there any advantage in using the KH4 which was tested by the maker, over the exact match KH3, not tested?
2. Could you please provide a link (to a reliable download site) for the latest android version? The sites that were in the original post appears to have been shut down.

man, you just woke up an 1 year old thread on the wrong forum, this is i9000 forum, not S2, . just use device search engine to locate it.

Hi There!
Before redirecting me to Chasmodo´s Which kernel is safe/unsafe
safehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1857556 please notice
that I am a newbie and I can´t understand all the stuff there. So stating clearly that the thread is useless to me and that no one seems to respond to my questions there I have just decided to open a new thread in search for the solution. So maybe any expert around here may drop me a hand. Let´s get to the point.
I have a rooted ICS 4.2.2 ROm with AOKP installed. My Kernel version is 3.0.85-NX-Kernel_1.4.1 [email protected] #1
N7000XXLT3
STUNNER VERSION 2.7.13
The thing is that I´d like to install a ICS based stock rom. I have downloaded the latest FOP Rom from Sammobile for my country. Now .......I read here in the forum that some kernels are unsafe to flash from.....so I am in Panic!!
My first question is.............. which safe kernel should I download for my cell phone?. I don´t understand all the numbers and characters here for the different versions. Please let me know which kernel iI should download!.
Kind Regards,
Medved
