With the official ICS update coming soonish, that sounds like an extremely pointless exercise if you ask me

That just seems to be quite rude request/command :-/

It'll be pointless seeing as ICS is around the corner.
Another thing you might not have known about: Honeycomb's source has yet to be released still (as far as I can recall).
I do however look forward to seeing the tablet friendly look of ICS on out Notes

While your at it a WP7 port too plz.

Look...all i wanted to know if it can be done,ok?
I just like honeycomb more than ics...
I tried the cm9 ics...and i have returned to gb...
I'm bored of the same ui...and hc has a pretty different ui...

tablet mode of ICS is HC with enhanced graphics/features for the most part.
Other than icons didn't notice much upgrading my tablet from HC to ICS, but it is beautiful

I need the Full Bloated Windows 8 Ultimate X64 to be ported to Note right now.
I will pay you nothing to do it, and I'm making a very reasonable request.

Go buy a HTC and be happy..

CyanogenMod 6.1 for Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000?????

Not sure if this goes here or not, but has anyone seen this today? I am surprised that it has not been talked about in here. Has anyone tried it yet?

Its full of bugs and there is not a re-orient kernel for it yet. Its not ready for primetime yet, unfortunately .

Posting a re-oriented kernel shortly. Sound through headphones doesn't seem to work. Most everything else does. The whole still beta thing definitely applies.
personally I am hoping that nexus S turns out to be pretty similiar to the Galaxy S. With the source and a good base I think we are more likely to get a 2.3 version of CM before 2.2
is CM6 gonna be that much better for our phones?

While I'm pretty sure they are almost exactly the same phone, I really doubt we're going to get source anytime soon. They are a couple of weeks away from a CM 6.1 beta release. It will have alot of the same issues the i9k roms do, but it should work well enough for most people.
I'm just glad Cyanogen has shown interest in the Galaxy S. That makes me feel like we'll see continued development, in addition to all the great devs already here for the Galaxy S series.

xcaliberinhand's kernel should work.... as long as its a I9000 kernel I don't think there would be a problem, except for the already known issues.

No, it won't. You have to use the one that glitterballs made from xcaliberinhands source and cyanogenmods kernel combined. The base i9k kernel won't work properly. Too many Samsung hooks in it I guess.

Cyanogen's appeal isn't just the ROM, there are tons of ROM builders. The Cyanogen team actually modifies the Android source quite a bit. (more so than some of the other tweaks found in some ROMs)
I don't understand. Why would this be mentioned in the Captivate section of this site? What does this mean for Captivate users?

because we can now get an idea on what needs to change to port this over to the captivate, such as now you can install cm using this:

Cause if CM can be re-oriented, we are going to get a much more powerful build than the our current Official/Modified ROMs

It was actually Aery and a few other i9000 devs, cyanogen actually had nothing to do with this port. Not really super important but I am a fan of credit where credit is due.

haha, good question. I think it's when you modify a kernel to work for another device. So, you would re-orient a I9000 kernel to work on a Captivate. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Better yet, elaborate if I'm right.

I'm fairly certain the name derives from the fact that an i9000 ROM would be rotated 90 degrees without it.

Now LG say 2.3 after the summer on swedish site
That must be a joke,
but by the way... i'm sure lg will bring android 2.3 to the 2x when cyanogen brought 3.1 alread!
There is no CM 3.1 ROM, Honeycomb is still closed source.

I'm sure he means, that by the time 3.1 (Or really ICS, 'cause HC isn't going to be opensourced) has been turned into a CM release, LG might release GB
When they realese it then CM8 would come with Ice Cream Sandwich!
I am just joking.

Wrong section - stop replying people, thread needs to die.
Why is there yet another thread about this???
We all know it was delayed, and I think more and more people know it won't come at all.
I got 2 email replies from LG. The first one said the update will come after summer for sure. The second one said there is no precise date for the update, not even after summer.
So to sum up:
n°1 LG is telling us all to go **** ourselves on this one
n°2 It's useless to open a new thread every time LG tells us to go **** ourselves
n°3 LG is ****ing ****
Froyo -> Gingerbread upgrade is not all that big. Most of you won't even know its running gingerbread vs froyo. Not sure what the big deal is.
its not about the software update, we have CM7 for that.
Its about the kernel update that we want from gingerbread.
And also, are you kidding? "most of you want know the difference" ? where do you think you are? this is XDA why do you think where here?

Pretty sure most of the people *****ing about it want it for the sake of having the number "2.3" written on the version screen as oppose to "2.2.2". What will gingerbread let you do that you can't do now?
If you're having issues with the phone (reboots/freezes etc) then fair enough otherwise just chill. It's just a phone.
I had a HTC Legend before Optimus 2X. And when the stable cm7 rom was running in my phone it was WAY faster then with any stable custom Froyo-rom. And 2.3 looks very nice. 2.3 also has the Screen-off animation, and a function to select text in messages and on webpages to easier copy, edit or delete parts.
Thats what I can remember I miss atm..

Yeah you're right, we need the kernel to produce better and stable CM7s or other gingerbread builds >< If only we could get our hands on one single Optimus 2x kernel source code ><
Dont know if you have tried CM7 lately but its VERY stable, at this point the only thing we need LG to fix is maybe the battery drivers

Gb will surely bring a lot of stuff to o2x as I understand. Most important imho proper use of dual core and gtalk videochat. Guess a lot of people will notice the speed improvements at least.

I almost agree.... cm7 rocks and no point at all using standard rom however the battery aint so bad is it? I manage live wallpaper, fair usage on wifi, 3g and 3 hours a day audiobook ( yes works tough going lol )baseband/rij 725 and she lasts a day no problem ........ if you think thats bad you should try my wifes iphone 3gs!!!
edit:- lcd brightness is also up full tilt
edit again.... why doesnt lg/htc/etc etc hire the cm devs? as far as im aware they dont get paid much if anything other than the odd donation and a new phone here and there for a hell of a lot of work.... surely if anyone should be doing the official roms its people like them who love their work?

Icecream Sandwich

Anyone else looking forward to it?
Is it going to be released on the SGS 1? I get the feeling there won't be an official release of it for it but will anyone be making a custom rom?

I read somewhere ICS will be available to any gingerbread running device!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXihfs7DKPE
Watch this video. The presenter is saying clearly that this next version will be made available for every phone from new to old. So, expect it on SGS. However, the question is that whether it will run smoothly or not ?
Here are some demo features that will come out in ICS.

I belive there isn't much ram on sgs to run ICS
And anyway, we have CyanogenMod. It will surely be updated to ICS.
One way or another we will get it.
How relatively well it will run on our device is another matter.
Hmm, can't wait for the Icecream Sandwich.

Totally agreed. There is hardly even enough ram for gingerbread to run as smoothly as froyo.
Android developers claimed today that ics is lighter and snappier. So i guess that means it will require less ram then gb. Its newer version so it is obvious they tried to make it lighter.

[Q] CM9 ICS Q&A Galaxy Note

I`am real excited about this rom and i think others are too so i can imagine people having questions.
Don`t want to clutter up the dev section so i took the liberty to create this thread so people can exchange and share all kind of CM9 related stuff if you want
Will it have all of the S-pen functionality and the Samsung S- apps? Like S-memo?
Samsung hasn't developed the S pen ability on ICS yet, so it will take a while .
I'm not touching a ROM unless it's official.
Maybe I've grown up, but flashing ****ty buggy ROMs is not for me anymore.

When I flashed CM7 on my nexus one, it was far from ****ty and buggy. I'd call it official in its own way; rather refined, actually, with better performance and many more features than my previous "official" ROM. I don't know anything about CM9 yet, though.

I don't see any point of those particular two right now because they're still on ICS while we're on jellybean so it wouldn't make sense (no pun intended). I'm not holding my breath because i'm perfectly happy with what jellybean offers (as ported ROMs would be ICS if someone tried one now)
