ROM Ports - Nexus 7 General

Obviously nexus devices (most atleast) have been famed for ported ROMs does anybody think we can expect something for our nexus 7s?

oh no how could i have missed that section....clearly the modaco custom ROM i'm running fell from the skies
1) i'm not blind, but i suggest you should read this ...especially 2.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=1674
2) i'm not your bro
3) if you don't have anything constructive to add, don't say anything
i'm talking about when the nexus one ran that ported HTC ROM...nexus s ran that ported ROM from the galaxy s, etc etc. I know it's still early days but what's everyone else's opinions on things like that?

If a developer is adventurous enough then yes. The nexus s also had a sense port. I wouldn't hold my breath though, now I have to go check out videos of new sense and touchwiz features.

I don't see any point of those particular two right now because they're still on ICS while we're on jellybean so it wouldn't make sense (no pun intended). I'm not holding my breath because i'm perfectly happy with what jellybean offers (as ported ROMs would be ICS if someone tried one now)

Agreed. Once CM10 is more stable we'll definitely start seeing more ROMS.

[Q] Any non-touchwiz ROMs out there?

I know that TeamHacksung is working on an ICS port and CM9 may unofficially be ported to the G-Note at some point, but that's all in the unforeseeable future.
And all the Gingerbread ROMs I see in the development section are ToucWizified.
Am I missing one, or did all the current custom rom "developers" keep their creations totally TouchWiz-bound?

my previous phone was a HTC hd2. yes window phone. rooted to run android 2.3 with sense and I can tell u, its even faster (scrolling, flip thru menus, contact scrolling) than my gnote. I can say, touchwiz is way way too bloated.
my old phone can use go widget launcher n is still smooth
gnote with 2x the hardware specs, lag!
I am also waiting for a pure rom, not a tweaked stock.
On sgs2 I used miui and it was really, really nice.

Sense is the one thing i miss from my Desire HD. Touchwiz is nothing in comparison with sense. This is just my opinion, i am sure others would disagree.

That just seems to be quite rude request/command :-/
It'll be pointless seeing as ICS is around the corner.
Another thing you might not have known about: Honeycomb's source has yet to be released still (as far as I can recall).
I do however look forward to seeing the tablet friendly look of ICS on out Notes

I tried the cm9 ics...and i have returned to gb...
I'm bored of the same ui...and hc has a pretty different ui...
tablet mode of ICS is HC with enhanced graphics/features for the most part.
Other than icons didn't notice much upgrading my tablet from HC to ICS, but it is beautiful

Android 4.1 for Incredible S from HTC?Maybe'

Look at this:

Maybe we will have a chance Or at least a port from Desire X!
I surely hope so.
But I'm guessing that it will be a bit late like the ICS update.

Jb will come with sense 4+ for all devices.
guys we have seen heaps of updates compared to other phones (nexus doesn't count)
Big updates:
2.2 froyo + sense 2.1
2.3.3 gingerbread + sense 2.1
2.3.5 GB with sense 3.0
Now 4.0 ICS with sense 3.6
The phone was unveiled at MWC 2011 in January iirc. I still remember lying on the floor reading about the incredible S's rotating buttons, fascinated by them. Long time ago. Point is, that our phone is more than 18 months old, nearly 2 years.
That's quite a major bump in both android and sense versions compared with other devices
SGS2 came with 2.3.3 GB
Got 2.3.5
Then got 4.0
Maybe getting 4.1 (higher chance than us)
They have been bumped up the same amount of important android versions as us. Theirs just came later and is way higher specced, so they are getting 4.1
Tl, Dr we should be happy with what we have. Like I said earlier if HTC bring it out for us I would definitely get another HTC next.
But the "2011 phones are being looked at" or whatever they said was likely in reference to the rezound, e3d and sensation etc. We are another step down with our single core processor and lower amount of ram (same as sensation, wouldn't be surprised if HTC skip out on the pyramid because of this )

Even if they release, at that point of time, apple would have released iPhone 8 in the market with one more row on their screen, Google would have released coffee beans Android version 6.0, barrack Obama would be fighting for 3rd term of President ship
But truth is still we would be hoping, will htc release update for our phone

I was using for some time, but I went to ARHD only because it's deodexed (I can use a few mods) and doesn't depend on lib partition (easier backup). As far as I'm concerned if was able to do all that on stock update I wouldn't have change it. I don't know why are you so suprised, I'm not a fan of AOSP roms (MIUI maybe, was using it for some time on Desire), Sense 4.0 looks like a child comic book to me, and stock ICS with Sense 3.6 looks preety good to me.

I was talking about the stock HTC update, most other Sense-ROMs are kinda smooth.
It's the stock ROM from HTC that's just pure rubbish. And has been since 3.5 update... But I gotta admit, I did like Sense when I bought this phone and it was Sense 2.1... then it has only gotten worse, and the ICS update I didn't even care to try, and from reading the General section here I think I made the right choice.
Anyway, I still stand by my opinion: if HTC release a JB update it'll probably be something rushed together to make us quiet. Normal users could probably not care less.
And... doesn't 4.1 feel a bit old now?

All Sense 3.6 roms are made from stock rom as a base with minor tweaks. And of course, as many others, you're talking about something that you haven't even tried.
I also doesn't know when IncS have got Sense 3.5 update. As far as I know the last GB update was with Sense 3.0, so you're talking about something you don't know, again.

Okay, let's take this from the beginning;
I didn't flash the 3.6 due to the fact that the 3.0 (see, I got it right this time... my memory doesn't handle numbers that well) update was rather sluggish, by using custom ROMs you got away from the sluggish feeling.
And by judging from what I've read about it (excluding you), the stock update seems to be even worse.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797471 <- just a quick search on Google, and I found that. First xda result, and if you want I can back up my statements with more sources.
Sense 2.1 on Froyo was okay, in both stability and smoothness. It felt like it was actually optimized for this device.
Are we going to keep on with this rather pointless discussion?
Obviously our opinions differ, and it will probably just go on like this in eternity.
My point is clear, early versions of Sense are better than the newer ones. The ICS update was probably only rolled out to us because it was released before our 18 months were over...
Any mistakes with numbers and so forth are to be blamed on my own lazyness, since I am way too lazy to check through this post for errors.

Waiting for the 4.2.2 release to flash a custom ROM?

Is anybody else waiting for HTC to release the 4.2.2 base and seeing what the devs do with it before flashing a custom ROM? I've had my One for about 2 weeks now and it's still unrooted and running the stock ROM (this is the longest I've gone so far).
Just wondering if I'm alone in thinking that the devs will come up with better ROMs based on 4.2 than they currently have out for 4.1
Other than quick toggles, I didn't see many stand out features vin the preview.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
4.2 isn't a huge step forward. There really is no point in waiting to root and unlock. It's still 'JellyBean' with a few extra features so the difference will be minimal, but I'm anxious for those quick settings myself. I'd say root and S-Off now to get it over with so you can flash immediately when 4.2 comes out.
I was going to wait too. But I got my phone two days ago and ended up flashing two days ago as well...

Not to sound like a lame-o but this is the first phone I've owned where I didn't feel the need to root it. Though I had similar feelings with my Epic 4G Touch a few years ago and ended up flashing probably 50 different ROMS, give or take.

I feel the same way, I've never gone this long without rooting a phone/tablet, it's usually a week at most.
This is the same boat I am in. I am not doing any of the over the air updates so it will be easier to root when it gets to that point. I am actually quite impressed with the phone (coming from the Evo 4g), I've actually thought about keeping this thing stock...then I remember that it will only get faster if I root and flash.
Yup, stock and not rooted. Waiting for the 4.2.2 and hopefully a working flashable rom of the Google Edition One with everything stable. I really want lockscreen widgets. This is the first phone where I'm not willing to sacrifice the stability of the phone, because sense 5 is pretty damn good. I'd definitely prefer an equally stable AOSP rom though.

Well.... if you look at some posts here from yesterday (2 posts up ) you will see the statement.... " Waiting for the 4.2.2 "
I waited a few weeks and started thinking that HTC dev unlock will wipe the device so I might as well get started. That and the process will be quicker once Sprint releases and development starts working to fix any of the unintended features on the new release.

Team VeNuM JellyBomb Domination port sugestion

When I flashed the [Team VeNuM] JellyBomb Domination ROM on a friends Note II I was amazed. Best custom ROM I have ever seen. After talking to the developer and asking him if he had any Sprint HTC ONE ROM's, he said that he would be happy to have someone port it if they wanted to.
If any dev's are interested in porting Josh's [Team VeNuM] JellyBomb Domination ROM he has given permission..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957773
Very interesting.... Might give a shot this weekend. I'm not claiming this though. Anybody who's interested is welcome obviously. Might pump out a build this weekend, we'll see.
That being said this would probably be a pretty hard port, with different screen size and whatnot. Especially from Sammy to HTC devices...

I would definitely be interested in seeing this up and running here. I have no experience with porting as of yet, but I do have a pretty comprehensive tut on porting from Post #3 of my Project Rookie II thread found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292018
It is technically for a different device, but I believe the process is the same. I may give it a whirl as a diversion from the frustration of compiling errors on my Beanstalk 4.3 build for the m7spr...........if any one wants to collaborate, or has any suggestions to offer, I'm all ears...
I could be wrong because I don't know anything about porting or being a Dev, in my years on XDA, I've never seen a touchwiz rom ported to a phone other than samsungs. But a sense rom that looks like that would be awesome.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 4
It's possible to do, but I can guarantee you that nothing would work unless you first ported a Touchwiz kernel to this device
Doing these things isn't easy, but it definitely is possible. See picture below
And yes, that's Sense 5 on my S3
There is a EvoLTE version of Jellybomb may be easier to port
It's ICS though
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968559&highlight=jellybomb
Update: I will not be working on this. I'm just too dang busy with other stuff atm (high school student and athlete..)
Sorry. I bet eventually we will get at least stock ported over from that device someday. Also, if we get one, we will most likely get others as well
would be great to have jelly bomb on my htc one but doubt it will ever happen.. i ran it on my galaxy s3 when i had that device.. but its a Touch wiz rom not sense.. maybe we should try and port a kick a$$ sense rom.. would be much easier maybe android revolation rom... or trickdroid rom.. insert coin rom... clean rom
