Maybe we will have a chance Or at least a port from Desire X!
I surely hope so.
But I'm guessing that it will be a bit late like the ICS update.

Jb will come with sense 4+ for all devices.
guys we have seen heaps of updates compared to other phones (nexus doesn't count)
Big updates:
2.2 froyo + sense 2.1
2.3.3 gingerbread + sense 2.1
2.3.5 GB with sense 3.0
Now 4.0 ICS with sense 3.6
The phone was unveiled at MWC 2011 in January iirc. I still remember lying on the floor reading about the incredible S's rotating buttons, fascinated by them. Long time ago. Point is, that our phone is more than 18 months old, nearly 2 years.
That's quite a major bump in both android and sense versions compared with other devices
SGS2 came with 2.3.3 GB
Got 2.3.5
Then got 4.0
Maybe getting 4.1 (higher chance than us)
They have been bumped up the same amount of important android versions as us. Theirs just came later and is way higher specced, so they are getting 4.1
Tl, Dr we should be happy with what we have. Like I said earlier if HTC bring it out for us I would definitely get another HTC next.
But the "2011 phones are being looked at" or whatever they said was likely in reference to the rezound, e3d and sensation etc. We are another step down with our single core processor and lower amount of ram (same as sensation, wouldn't be surprised if HTC skip out on the pyramid because of this )

Even if they release, at that point of time, apple would have released iPhone 8 in the market with one more row on their screen, Google would have released coffee beans Android version 6.0, barrack Obama would be fighting for 3rd term of President ship

I was using for some time, but I went to ARHD only because it's deodexed (I can use a few mods) and doesn't depend on lib partition (easier backup). As far as I'm concerned if was able to do all that on stock update I wouldn't have change it. I don't know why are you so suprised, I'm not a fan of AOSP roms (MIUI maybe, was using it for some time on Desire), Sense 4.0 looks like a child comic book to me, and stock ICS with Sense 3.6 looks preety good to me.

I was talking about the stock HTC update, most other Sense-ROMs are kinda smooth.
It's the stock ROM from HTC that's just pure rubbish. And has been since 3.5 update... But I gotta admit, I did like Sense when I bought this phone and it was Sense 2.1... then it has only gotten worse, and the ICS update I didn't even care to try, and from reading the General section here I think I made the right choice.
Anyway, I still stand by my opinion: if HTC release a JB update it'll probably be something rushed together to make us quiet. Normal users could probably not care less.
And... doesn't 4.1 feel a bit old now?

All Sense 3.6 roms are made from stock rom as a base with minor tweaks. And of course, as many others, you're talking about something that you haven't even tried.
I also doesn't know when IncS have got Sense 3.5 update. As far as I know the last GB update was with Sense 3.0, so you're talking about something you don't know, again.

Okay, let's take this from the beginning;
I didn't flash the 3.6 due to the fact that the 3.0 (see, I got it right this time... my memory doesn't handle numbers that well) update was rather sluggish, by using custom ROMs you got away from the sluggish feeling.
And by judging from what I've read about it (excluding you), the stock update seems to be even worse.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797471 <- just a quick search on Google, and I found that. First xda result, and if you want I can back up my statements with more sources.
Sense 2.1 on Froyo was okay, in both stability and smoothness. It felt like it was actually optimized for this device.
Are we going to keep on with this rather pointless discussion?
Obviously our opinions differ, and it will probably just go on like this in eternity.
My point is clear, early versions of Sense are better than the newer ones. The ICS update was probably only rolled out to us because it was released before our 18 months were over...
Any mistakes with numbers and so forth are to be blamed on my own lazyness, since I am way too lazy to check through this post for errors.

Let's forget about ICS for a while. According to our sources we have a sense 3.0 rom with 2.3.5. coming in December. I would be happy to grab that. I have a feeling that we are not gonna get an official ICS rom at all.

Sense made my phone laggy and have terriable battery life. Why would I want that.
Cm7 is more like an iPhone. Battery is better although not quite as good as my friends iPhone 3gs that has 80% battery left at the end of the day on ios 5.
I agree. Why bother with official ROM's when year has passed - no warranty anyway. I get 5 days of battery life with CM7.

that's one way of looking at it but i think you are missing the point. from what i've read, ics is supposed to enhance the android experience. in other words, add more polish and improve the look and the feel of the operating system. what you are referring to is hardware capabilities and app functionalities.
if I can have the same functionalities in a more polished package, I would at least want to give it a go.

that's a known bug with the new release. there's a workaround for that: you have to flash the weekly (non-ics) version first, let it boot up, reboot into recovery then flash the ics version on top. or you can just flash the previous release (v1.11.9). it's been flawless for me.

At least for devices built with/for Sense in mind, when it gets officially combined with ICS by HTC (later this year, they say), it may reveal a new light on the subject.
It might work great and be more stable/smooth and give you the desired Sense functions that current ICS ports don't have.
And only at 4.0.3, ICS may yet have places to go we will have to wait to see.
Maybe you are correct, still.. for now...

These two bits of information are key. Try it on a Galaxy Nexus / Nexus S and you may have a differing opinion.
well as st.matt said, you should try it on the galaxy nexus device and then only you will get the real taste of ice crem sandwich!
With better interface, power management, loads of new features...its definitely better than its previous versions.
@StMatt,
I agree better hardware, newer phone goes well with ICS. But does it mean that older phones with less RAM, slower single core processors can run the same OS with all bells & whistles? I have this inc s which I feel.is good enough with ARHD sense 3.0 (even sense 3.5 makes this phone groan & creak), so what is good for THIS device? ICS with all its refinements? Without some 'nice to have features' that Google has deliberately throttled in ICS? Or even the ICS upgrade with sense 3.5, that's due in Q2? Maybe the last option seems best IMHO. Anyone else like to refute?

Doesn't have to do specifically with hardware. It means those phones and tablets have better support due to official releases.
Everything else that doesn't have an official release has devs trying their best to get it working, but not everything is working or disabled. Such as most HTC devices.
Sense 3.5 reduced my phone to a laggy mess, which is why I switched to miui. I'd be interested in seeing what the official release of ICS runs like when it's out.
When htc release the update to Ics there will be lots of Ics Roms that are really smooth and fast for the incredible s
yes agree with you. sens + ics in my opinion will be a step forward

After seeing the ICS ports by StMatt and Virtuous team, I'm having a sneaky, suspicious feeling that ICS + sense will make me wish for going back to gingerbread + sense.
ICS IMO has been a major disappointment, (just like the Niagara Falls have been the second major disappointment in an American bride's life).
Sent from my HTC Incredible S
I've been running the Quattro ROM on my phone for almost a month now, and while that ROM does have some customization in it and still has a fair bit of bugs, I'd have a hard time going back to 2.3 even with the Sense. While Sense is really nice, Android before ICS did have a fair bit of lag on it and just didn't feel as smooth as things like iOS. With ICS, moving homescreens, swiping pages in applications, etc. just feels a little more natural and with less lag.
Plus, with Google Chrome for ICS, that's enough reason to go over. Miles above the stock Android browser!
Nik is releasing a sense+ ics rom tomorrow and I can't wait to try it. I tried all the other ics roms that are out for the incs and I have to admit that I'm quite disappointed. I use cm7 before I switched to trinity so niks New rom might be the one for me

Define issues, and honestly, since a global rollout has yet to occur, I doubt that upgrades >4.0.3 are going to occur. Maybe the regions that have yet to get ICS may get 4.0.4 or later, if those regions ever release an update.
Honestly, you're probably going to have to wait for CM to give you that.
question????
@ Aus_AZN
Why do you think or what have you heard that indicates no Sense 4 for Vivid?
I'm new to the HTC line and reacquainting myself with Android phones. I had a Moto Droid X a few years ago until it was stolen. I was loving it compared to my old VeriZon semi-smart phone. But then it was liberated.
I also lost everything after the loss of a family member. So I really haven't had a quality phone for the last 2 years until I upgraded to the Vivid. I didn't do much research, I just knew it would be upgradeable to ICS. I only upgraded to it because I was able to get it for $49.99 as an upgrade from a Fry's electronics near me. So far it ROCKS!!!!
Also where is a good or great source to learn more about Sense and what it adds to the phone? I have seen very little here or on the HTC site or AT&T either.

Well, the Vivid is definitely upgradeable to ICS, just not Sense 4 ICS. The way Sense 3.6 looks is very similar to the way it looks on GB; you just get the ICS bonuses when you update it.
I for one hope we see sense 4.0 at some point. It's not out of the question. Hopefully after the one line gains some steam they'll update it.

Many bugs on this update like losing reception when entering a train station then having to manually turn it back on when back outside or rebooting. Lost of audio on games which needs a reboot and the constant upgrading android on reboots. I believe we will get an upgrade to work out the kinks. But doubt a sense update but who knows we got beats audio and sense 3.6. HTC is cool like that

I've had sprint and t-mobile att is by far better in pricing. They even waved my activation fees and sold me a top of the line phone for 1 cent. While sprint and t-mobile man enough said. Never had verizon but after walking in and looking at the prices I walked out and never went back that was 5 years ago. What its been 5-6 months, fastest update to the latest and greatest ever not to mention we were the first to receive ICS if I'm correct. I think people are upset about the whole no unlimited data thing. But for what I use my phone for its ok haven't even hit a gig yet. Also lowest cancel fee as well. Haven't really needed support yet so don't know about that but S&T forget it.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
All I meant by that is that ATT has been notorious for only providing 1 major update per device (minor security/software patches aside). We got ICS and Sense 3.6 as the update, I don't see, from history, ATT giving us another big update like Sense 4.0
What pisses me off about all the cell phone companies is that they waste technology with greed. This phone among others have 2 CPUs and a monster gpu yet the current software does not utilize it very well at all. Now quads its truly a waste of hardware. When phones like the Samsung epic still does very well. ICS uses more resources and the following android update will use even more, making capable phones unable to be upgraded do to lack of resources. Now as far as sense 4 goes our phones have enough resource to handle the upgrade to not give it is a waste and a greed move. Also I hate reading a phone has 1gb ram but 300 available, its starting to be a joke. Laptops another mobile device that can receive the latest and greatest as long as the hardware is supported, they should just offer upgrades for a price which would guarantee upgrades as long as the hardware meets the requirements and offer them from the play store. And fixes should stay free.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Really overall the update has been pretty good to me. Some minor quirks here and there but everything works and it seems stable. Sense 3.6 works well just the look of it all gets to me. Coming from a Samsung, touchwiz definitley adds its own look but keeps enough elements that you still know what version of android your running. The way it sounds is htc rebuilt sense from the ground up to look good on the one series but just did some minor tweaking on the updated phones. I still question the call imo. And I don't get why htc feel the need to remove overscroll glow and Crt animations on their roms, very cool effects that SHOULD be enabled! And why is the app drawer so.... Gingerbread looking? And where are the widget previews and why aren't they located in the apartment drawer?

From this article it sounds like 4.0 is more of the same anyway but it's spot on about what bugs me about sense ics
Thanks for the link Cor-Master!!
I may want to back off of Sense and see what ICS really looks like. Who knew HTC was bastardizing ICS so much. Im new to the Vivid so I had no idea what Sense really was. Now I know more and knowing is half the battle!
Yeah and like the author I'm not against custom UIs. In away its what android was all about and it allows manufacturers some freedom in putting their own stamp on Android. But in the case of sense its just too much. A good example is my captivate and it's official gingerbread update. Samsung put their own stamp on I with touchwiz but it still looked and felt like gingerbread. All and all I'd say touchwiz was 80% android. And the launcher wasn't as heavily weaven into the ui as sense so as for me I spent a majority of my time with it on adw ex. But sense is probably 30% stock Android if that. They really went out of there way to make sure android didn't look or feel like android anymore.
I like sense for the most part and the issue is fixable if htc just does a few minor things: #1 kill all the textured menus and use the stock holo theme for everything. #2. Enable all ics animations #3. Keep the notification bar stock. And last but not least #4. Use the stock app drawer. They could keep everything else the same and sense overall would world's better!

I like Sense. 3.6 is a huge step closer to an AOSP feel than 3.0 or 3.5 was. 4.0 looks even closer. Any way I look at it though, I like what HTC did with Sense. I think it enhances the look of the OS, without compromising resources too badly. It's definitely my favorite Android overlay (over touchwiz, motoblur, etc)...and it's one of the many reasons I bought the Vivid, because I like Sense. If I didn't like Sense, I probably wouldn't have bought HTC. Especially one who's development is a little slower than others.
i guess we just have to wait and see what happens maybe att will release an update for it i dont know

Officially (as in from HTC), probably never.
Unofficially, probably after S-Off is released and CM9 is out.

CM Roms are AOSP based and will not contain Sense. CM always use AOSP
Is anybody else waiting for HTC to release the 4.2.2 base and seeing what the devs do with it before flashing a custom ROM? I've had my One for about 2 weeks now and it's still unrooted and running the stock ROM (this is the longest I've gone so far).
Just wondering if I'm alone in thinking that the devs will come up with better ROMs based on 4.2 than they currently have out for 4.1
Other than quick toggles, I didn't see many stand out features vin the preview.

4.2 isn't a huge step forward. There really is no point in waiting to root and unlock. It's still 'JellyBean' with a few extra features so the difference will be minimal, but I'm anxious for those quick settings myself. I'd say root and S-Off now to get it over with so you can flash immediately when 4.2 comes out.
I was going to wait too. But I got my phone two days ago and ended up flashing two days ago as well...

Not to sound like a lame-o but this is the first phone I've owned where I didn't feel the need to root it. Though I had similar feelings with my Epic 4G Touch a few years ago and ended up flashing probably 50 different ROMS, give or take.

I feel the same way, I've never gone this long without rooting a phone/tablet, it's usually a week at most.
This is the same boat I am in. I am not doing any of the over the air updates so it will be easier to root when it gets to that point. I am actually quite impressed with the phone (coming from the Evo 4g), I've actually thought about keeping this thing stock...then I remember that it will only get faster if I root and flash.
Yup, stock and not rooted. Waiting for the 4.2.2 and hopefully a working flashable rom of the Google Edition One with everything stable. I really want lockscreen widgets. This is the first phone where I'm not willing to sacrifice the stability of the phone, because sense 5 is pretty damn good. I'd definitely prefer an equally stable AOSP rom though.

Well.... if you look at some posts here from yesterday (2 posts up ) you will see the statement.... " Waiting for the 4.2.2 "
I waited a few weeks and started thinking that HTC dev unlock will wipe the device so I might as well get started. That and the process will be quicker once Sprint releases and development starts working to fix any of the unintended features on the new release.

Check out this great review on the new Stock Android One and GS4. Can't wait to get some of this on our phones fully working.
Also, I noticed on htcdev.com that they released the 3.4.10 Kernel source for the One Special Edition running Android 4.2.
i cant wait till the roms start coming out

Oh man! I am so pumped for this. I have been running Rootbox AOSP, and it has it's slight quirks and random animations that are stuttery, so it's gonna be awesome messing around with a perfect version of AOSP pretty soon here. Someone needs to release the RUU already
This is going to be amazing. I can't wait to start tinkering
stuff like zoe and beats wouldn't be ported over amirite?
I sincerely hope that within a week's time, we'll see the first major steps taken in the direction of a solidified, fully-functional build for Sprint's HTC One. Granted, things like CM 10.1 have nightlies, but sadly; not an official stable release in-sight for us.
That being said, perhaps the system dumps provided by GPE owners will significantly help steering these ROMs in the right direction.
It would still be fantastic if Sprint (and I suppose HTC in-partial) would quickly prepare the 4.2.2 w/ Sense 5 update for us.

From what I have gathered, beats will be a function you can turn off and on. I don't imagine Zoe will be there because that is a big time sense thing. And I think beats audio will likely not have the beats logo when it is running.
Keep in mind this isn't meant to be a hybrid HTC/Google device. It is a Google device. I'm sure they will implement the better sound, and some more root code stuff, but not as much on the front end / UI
From the looks of any of this I wouldn't get your hopes up for this "helping" anything. AOSP builds are already available. Until Sprint and HTC update Sense to 4.2.2 we will still be in limbo.

One thing this could help is the kernel issues we are currently experiencing and hopefully the random bricking issue some people are experiencing when running AOSP roms.

Zoe is not there, but Beats is in the AOSP build on the HTC One GPe.
All I wish for is that they port the beats audio to our Aosp roms. Will make they audio so much better.

Damn, was finally about to buy a One today, but this has me intrigued, since all I've used for years is AOSP ROMs. On that note, are people pretty satisfied with this device? I am a longtime HTC user. I plan on getting S-off ASAMFP. That was my hesitation coming from S-off Evo LTE, but I see moonshine is now available.

Scott, brother you will not be disappointed. Aosp is still a bit quirky for some but with the current source dropped I expect great things in the Aosp world.

more disappointments
google will not be updating these directly like they do with their nexus devices
they are still leaving it up to the OEMs
so if you expect the nexus treatment, youre in for a huge disappointment

My EVO 4G LTE just drowned the other day so I paid my ETF and bought the One from Radio Shack, it's going to be delivered tomorrow. I was wondering if the fact that HTC was releasing a One with stock android would significantly speed up development on AOSP roms for the Sprint version of the phone. I was also wondering if there will likely be proprietary code for the GPE of the phone that developers here wouldn't be able to use in their AOSP builds. I love stock Android and I've used CM on all my Android phones at one time or another but there always seems to be random nagging issues that eventually push me back to Sense. I guess my question is will the software for the GPE One really help solidify and speed up development of AOSP roms for Sprint's version of the phone.

I believe you will see the GPe ROM ported to the Sprint One, but I don't know if it'll affect development by CM/AOKP/PA etc. There is still a lot of proprietary software in the GPe. That is, stuff devs can't use.
