[Q] No service / Network unknown after flashing - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys I need your help!
My captivate i896 can't connect to the network after flashing an AT&T ROM and GALNET miui. Status shows network is unknown and I still have my IMEI. Flashing to the stock 2.3.3 Rogers rom doesn't help and I've tried other custom roms and modem. Maybe you know something that I can do to resolve this.
Thank you.

I had this happen when I flashed the ICSSGS, it wasn't reading my SIM, are you only flashing new ROMS or are you flashing a new kernal also?

i tried flashing kernels, roms, and modems, but no luck. It seems that the sim card is being detected though, i can access the sim tools. On status, im getting a value for signal strength but it doesn't change unlike if you got a working connection to the network.
BTW, how did you resolve your issue? Maybe that would help.
Thanks!

When I had my issue it was because I flashed like this:
From cog5v2 to Rom > Kernal > Rom
Then to fix it I did a full wipe and uhm... I can't remember what it's called, a check/fix permissions? then flashed:
From ICSSGS to Kernal > Rom > Kernal > Rom
and it fixed it.

Let me try that. I'm downloading ICSSGS now. Hopefully it will work for me.
Thanks!

Try going back to froyo. I had an issue where the Sim only showed up on froyo. I fixed it by reflashing GB bootloaders that I had just installed
Sent from my (CM9) ICS i897 Captivate

Which version of CWM are you using? Also are you clearing all user files before a new install?

I know this may sound dumb..but are you sure your SIM card is in correctly? I've done this myself & freaked out then opened up the back of my phone, I put the SIM card back incorrectly.

I've tried going back to froyo (same issue) using odin one click, then installed ginbgerbread 2.3.3 using the same method after that. Is there a way wherein you can just install the bootloaders?
@SGT_Watkins
I'm not sure of the exact version of the CWM that I'm using. With the user files, I do delete factory reset and wipe cache before installing them.
Thanks for all the help!

Yes, I got a vibrant as well and it has exactly the same sim slot. The captivate is detecting it because I can get into the sim tools.
Thanks!

So you can get to SIM tools and no service still? I hate to have you double-doing a lot of stuff but have you put the SIM back in the vibrant to ensure it's still good?

Yes I did but still got the same thing.
The good news is that everything is working now. I had a phone technician open the handset and it's actually caused by a hardware issue. I just installed GalnetMiui ICS and it's all good!
Thank you guys for all the help!

[Q] Urgent help needed - No service after firmware update

Hi guys,
Yesterday i tried to install version 2.3.3 from samfirmware on my Galaxy S (Stock 2.2.1), but came to realize that some features was not in my language (Danish).
I wanted to go back to my stock firmware, but i've tried different guides to bring it back to stock with 2.1 and then upgrade it through KIES to 2.2.1.
But none of the guides I found worked for me as KIES kept saying that "This device's version can not be updated". So ultimately I went back to the 2.3.3, but now I have no service at all.
I have no idea what to do anymore and I hope someone here can help me out.
Did you check your apn settings? If you don't gave an apn set up then you won't get data. Search for the settings of your carrier.
Sent from my Iphone killing I9000
I can only find settings for internet and mms for APN... There are no settings for getting a signal.
If it is telling you that it can't be updated, it means either the PDA, CSC or Modem are not what it considers stock for you.
You can use one of the many Kies spoof methods found here at XDA, or just forget about Kies and cook a new 2.2.1 ROM in Doc's Kitchen, making sure to load in a Danish CSC.
Your connectivity problems are likely due to an incorrect CSC or as Joel suggested, your APN settings being wrong/missing. Hopefully flashing a proper CSC would fix that.
If the problem persists you could check to make sure your bandwidth options are correct, using the secret code found in SGS Tools to change them.

Ok maybe start with your SIM card. If you have another device to check it in. Don't laugh but I once put it in backwords and had a hell of a time finding my problem, because nothing looked wrong until I took it out again.

What was your stock build? You may be able to install it as a deodexed ROM from Ramad using Odin.
As for an easy way, sadly there is no "Make all the bad things go away" option in CWM yet. Maybe next version.

If you don't know what the stock firmware was I would drop any further attempt to return to it and just move forward.
Go look at the ROM Kitchen thread and follow the very clear instructions there for creating and flashing a 2.2.1 ROM with the right CSC.

Thank you. My only problem is the small installation guide that is posted there does not work for me. In recovery mode I haven't got the option to install the docrom - all i can do is choose Apply sdcard:update.zip and then theres 2 different kinds of whipe and that is it.
Look you might be best off just using Odin to flash a stock JPO with a multi CSC rather than using the ROM kitchen. The link below is a really good tutorial that will show you how to do it and set your CSC
http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/2921-How-to-use-Odin-to-upgrade-to-Froyo-from-Eclair
Sorry its not an xda tutorial but its really noob friendly -its how I made my first firmware flash from eclair

Well the Kitchen Rom didn't work when i finally got it installed.
I went back to samfirmware.com and found the correct stock firmware i had before. After i installed it KIES also tells me i have the latest version.
However I still have no signal. I have the correct Internet and MMS settings in the APN and when i pull down the top menu thingy it says "(No signal) M1" (M1 is my provider), so it seems to recognize the simcard correctly?

[Q] No network after successful Root?

Ok folks,
Forgive me if this is a panic post!
I successfully rooted my note this morning, I was on LA6 firmware, Downgraded and rooted without any problems.
I noticed that I only had "emergency calls only" after the reboot, so went into mobile network settings and managed to get a signal on my network (3uk) although it dropped again when I rebooted again?
Right after the Rooting was done, I backed up my EFS folder as stated is best practice, then backed up the stock rom.
I thought that maybe the old baseband version was giving me the issues (I presume the notes modem is similar to the HTC radio?) so I went ahead and gave Checkrom NoteHD V6 a shot. It all installed fine and as it should but I still have the no network issue. I dont think it corrupted the efs system as I can still use wifi and my IMEI number is still there.
Any ideas for a new note owner?
Edit:
-----------
I did make note that I was on Baseband XXLA4 before rooting or flashing anything, is it safe to go ahead and flash it from the modems thread via CWM? Should this help?
any pointers if doing so?

You may have already tried this but are your APN settings correct?
They may change or get deleted between ROM flashes
Also what modem do you have and baseband in the about phone menu right now?
Wow, that was quick!
My APN settings all seem fine. The preset for three.co.uk were still there and the settings inside seem intact.
Im currently running baseband XXLB2.

How did you root your note? I am on 3 in the UK with same firmware, have been looking around but not much progress.

First thing first...
- do the hard reset Vol Up + Menu + Power *or* CWM Wipe everything. Reboot...
- Still no go, go and download different radio HERE and flash it

So went ahead and flashed XXLA4 (my original modem) - Nothing,

sorry m8, couldn't help much...
is that phone carrier locked?
i suggest, flash CheckRoom v6 (the most professional stock look-alike rom). If the problem still there, try flash another radio. After that if still no go... try CM9/AOSP ICS

No, no carrier lock, no branding, no nothing!
Just been racking my brains, after refering to a video link posted in the how to root galaxy note thread, I see a chap called cursed4eva created a video using ODDKL1 as the downgrade to root method. Just checked on samfirmware.com and that is Indian firmware, could this cause my network issue?
Im in the process of downloading the lastest Uk firmware now.
If it was the case that this indian firmware was causing the issue, wouldnt flashing checkrom fix it? I didnt seem to for me?
Anyway, rooting around on the samfirmware pages, ive found a directly rootable firmware package (KK3) that was a carphone warehouse UK one.
If I get network back from the latest firmware, im going to downgrade to the above mentioned carphone warehouse package, Root, and try again.
I will post back some results ASAP.

[Q] IMEI and Baseband unknown, current fixes not working

I9305T, IMEI and Baseband both show as Unknown. *#06# shows IMEI null / null. I've tried numerous fixes, such as:
- Flash Param_Bin_I9305.tar.md5
- Delete /efs/FactoryApp/keystr and factorymode, then recreating (echo -n ON, chown 1000.1000, chmod 0744).
- Flash Perseus kernel.
The efs folder seems to be intact. EFS Pro had no problems making a backup (which I did before trying to fix the problem).
Upgraded to 4.1.2, had constant rebooting. It'd stay up for a minute or two, then reboot. Constantly (not random, it would always reboot after the same period of time; barely had enough time to fly through initial setup before it rebooted).
Flashed latest CM 10.1 nightly. Phone stopped rebooting, but still no IMEI.
Flashed back to stock 4.1.2. Then flashed Perseus kernel. That stopped the reboots, but still no IMEI (which this kernel was known to fix/work around).
I can get into the Qualcomm USB Settings using *#7284#, QPST recognizes the port, but not the phone itself. Consequently, any time I try to read/download from the phone, I get an error stating that there's no phone.
If it matters, wifi and bluetooth both work and show the correct MAC address. GPS works fine. Just no phone functions (got a nice circle with a line through it, where I should see a signal).
The phone has no warranty; I'd rather not do anything that will DEFINITELY brick it, but if we're talking 50/50 chance of brick or fix, I'll take that risk.
Any thoughts?
Service centre repair is all .

The internal sd card seems fine. I mean, nothing else is giving me issues. Wouldn't it throw an error when I try flashing the modem through Odin or CWM? Are there instructions on how to check (I'm guessing, find the partition the modem is stored on, to a dd, compare the file with the modem.bin, if it matches up then you know the sd card is functioning properly; if not, then figure out how to get the modem on a new partition, and have the phone look in that new partition?)

I had flashed the newest available TEL (Telstra), I9305TDVBME2. Would I9305XXBME3 (the latest NEE I could find) be preferable? I know that it won't do 4G with the non-T modem, but I "think" it'd be ok otherwise.
Regardless, I have NOT tried the adam kernel yet. I'll try that tomorrow (it's late here).

Lost IMEI after flashing

Hi everyone,
Recently my phone loses IMEI after flashing any ROM, even after flashing kernel only (Semaphore 3.0.0 on CM10.1.3, for example). I have flashed the phone many of times before with different ROMs, kernels, sounds, fonts, animations, etc., but never had this issue before. Something has changed and I don't know what it is. It's getting annoying I just did a full cycle by the book: Format int/ext storage -> One-click stock ROM -> One-click Corn kernel -> Cyanogen 10.1.3 Stable (flash to repartition, flash the again). The phone works perfectly. Flashed another JB ROM to test, the same one I have flashed many times before with no issues (HellyBean 4.2.2, CM-based), and bam - lost IMEI again!
I have no problem restoring IMEI. The question is why the phone loses IMEI now after ROM change but never before?
What you describe suggests something has changed in the install scripts on either the CM or Helly roms.
It seems like flashing 10.1.2. instead of .3 would test CM as cause.

I was thinking about this, it started somewhere around CM 10.1.2. But if the cause is changes in CM installation, then am I the only one experiencing this issue? I don't see many comments about lost IMEI on 4.2.2 ROMs. Yes, I know it happens, but not on every flash. I tried flashing Xylon 2.3.3 ROM, the one I flashed at least 3 times before with no issues, and same thing - lost IMEI. Seems like EFS is now in a place that gets wiped every time I flash something.
I tried installing cyanmod 4.2.2 and lost my imei. So I flashed back to 2.3.5 I think ill leave it where its at

Try again. Android 4.2.2 is much better than stock 2.3.x.

Will It erase it again? I took me forever to unlock it to T-Mobile. I don't want to loose that.

The phone will stay unlocked. Just try again and you"ll be fine. Use latest CM10.1.3 Stable release.
