where do APKs go? - HTC Sensation XL

i see that the sensation xl does not have a sd card so where do i drop apk into please ,cheers

If you are using windows just plug the phone in with the USB cable and then select disk drivemode on your handset, windows should then show it as a removable drive (think that's what it comes up as) then just drag the apk there.
You will need a file explorer app to fond the apk to install it. I use es file explorer. Just get that from the market
Once you've got that open it up scroll to the bottom and your apk will be there, click it and install.
You may need to allow unknown sources before you can install. That's in settings and applications and then just tick the box
Hope that helps.

WiFi File Manager

I'd like to get an opinion on what's the best WiFi File Manager app around as I'm always transferring media i.e photos etc back and forth from my DHD to pc and vice versa and it would be better not having to use a usb cable and using a quick and simple way over WiFi would be better.

if it's small files then I use Bluetooth.
For larger things I use ASTRO file manager with the SMB module, then i can browse my Laptop or PC folders via my phone.
I couldn't get SMB Module to work. Best I have found so far is Estrongs with the built in WiFi file Manager. Can simply view the contents of your pc from phone and copy and paste onto phone.

And its free
Dropbox!
i use "file expert" for nearly everything.

Just make sure you have a shared folder on your Win7 machine (create something like Android transfer and share with 'Everyone')
Use ES File Explorer to set up a Server on LAN tab
job done

Best XOOM File Manager

Hope everyone has had a nice holiday season so far. I got a shiny new XOOM as a gift and I was wondering what the best file manager for it would be since it does not have one stock. I have Astro installed right now. I would like to keep stock firmware but I am willing and know how to side load apps. Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Definitely FileManager HD or ES File Explorer
File Manager HD works perfect for me and allows me to stream movies on my home network when used in conjunction with a capable video player.
Es File explorer. Especially now I know it also makes the external card write able via its settings. Great for moving files, viewing videos over Lan as well.

I've tried about all of them. File manager HD is the best, and has good root exploring, plus pretty good compression and unzipping with Bluetooth sharing.
There's two "File Manager HD" programs in the market... are you guys talking about the one by Rhythm Software or XUFEIFENG?
I believe the one everyone is referring to is rhythm software. At least that's the one I use and I rather like it.
Antek File Manager is quite good. Lots of options, freezing apps etc.
As you can tell from the responses there is no best. I use four different ones. So look them over and choose what your needs call for.

I get a 404 error when trying to access the page for Total Commander
I think it was just the smiley face that was making the url look like port "D". Here is the link without the "" on the end...

Astro file manager with the SMB plugin is nice. It allows me to access fileshares on my network as well as locally.
File Manager HD is also great.
File Manager HD for most navigation.
Root Explorer for root stuff.
AndroZip for handling zip files.

Sdcard issue

I can browse sd card using explorer apps no problem. Shoes in system settings too. But won't show music or pictures when I go to those apps, music and gallery. Ideas?

Go to settings, apps, music, clear data. Same thing for gallery. If that doesn't work you might just have a bad flash going. Reflash the ROM and go from there.

Also...make sure there ate no ".nomedia" files, if you see this file it will cancel media scanner for the folder its located in as well as its sub-derectories...spook...if its in root, you will never see anything.
Do you or did you have Rom manager installed? There was a version of Rom manager released a few days ago that created a .nomedia in the root of the phone...
To see the .nomedia file you may have to enable the "view hidden files" under settings...

[Q] Hiding photos

Hi folks
How do you hide photos on the Z? I have tried moving the photos with file commander but this is still showing in the gallery and shortcut on my main screen? are they any apps or ways of deselecting folders on the gallery or album app?

Try hide it pro from the market
try create a folder starting with a dot, like: .photos.
and put the pictures there...
In the folder where you want to store and hide photos create a file called .nomedia then move the photos into the folder.
If you add the .nomedia file to an existing folder you may need to wipe Gallery data before it takes effect. Works on Sammy and HTC, haven't tried it myself on Sony.
OR, if rooted, get LUKS Manager from the market. Works like Windows Truecrypt.

Or you can download quickpic app to hid the folders for you..
it actually only create .nomedia file for you..
Install 'hide it pro' app downloading via Google play store, its free and after installation it will be renamed as audio manager, and tapping at 'audio manger' you will be able to install your password and you can view your hidden photos, videos. You can encrypt your data also.
And if you have root acess, you can hide your app downloading its plugin, located at advanced settings. Then you can launch your app calling @ ##yourpassword .

I tried Hide It Pro but prefer LUKS. Hide It just seems to change the name of your file and copy it to an obscure location, but you can still find it with a file explorer. I didn't try the encryption but it looked to me like it would only encrypt individual file(s)?
With LUKS, you create a password-protected encrypted volume (can take a while) and then you mount it. Once the volume is mounted it looks like a regular folder. You can create whatever folders you want and just cut/paste any filetype into it. Encryption is on the fly so you don't need to encrypt/decrypt files. In any file explorer, browse to a file in the volume, double-click and the file opens....pictures, music, videos, spreadsheets, text files etc, all open transparently out of the mounted volume. When you dismount the volume you cannot see inside it.
Tried changing a name of an existing folder to .saved and the folder disappear completely ?? any reason why this happened?
And tried creating a new one with .pvt ,sadly this not work, ast the folder created cant be seen?anyone experienced this problem before?
Just to clear the matter, lady friend sent me a bikini photo, not porn or any sort but since the album shows all on the Z, had a lot people want to check my phone out scanning through my photos etc which made me wonder if there is an app to ensure privacy.
Hide It Pro works well Thanks guys!! :good:

Can't copy files to SD card through USB

I'm trying to copy over files from my Windows computer to my Note 4 so I can quickly view things through the Gear VR. I have USB debugging turned on and it connects to my computer in camera mode. When I navigate to my SD card and open up the Oculus folder I see all the folders (360Photos, 360Videos, etc) however if I open any folder they all say 0 items and are blank and it won't let me copy files into any of these folders. Anybody know what is going on here?
Thanks.
I think mass storage feature was removed from android long time ago. If you use external drive and otg cable you can copy files from drive to memory card using Note's built in file manager (my files)

My steps are little different. Im using one of those sandisk memory sticks with usb connector on one side and micro usb on the other. Copy files from pc to memory stick and plug in memory stick to phone and transfer files using My Files app. I know it is extra step but allow me to have few movies on stick and load them when needed

I personally downloaded one of many apps that enable sd card writes. I believe you need root though. Now, I just copy with a usb to the computer. No need to take out the sd card. Make sure you download the Note 4 usb drivers for your os. Also, make sure your sd card is exFAT so you can copy files larger than 4gb. I have many 10+ gig 3D video / movie files I play with the Gear VR. The only issue is sound on some of them as it won't play. What I do is play the file on my computer and on the Gear VR at the same time. Good luck!
