Small list of problems with Apple.
I don't know if anyone else agrees with me and with this statement but I think Apple software (all of it) is complete and utter crap. I'm also going to include there hardware as well.
SOFTWARE
1. Syncing is a *****
2. Market looks very soggy
3. Why is there no app drawer?
4. What in the hell is safari?
5. Although I jailbroke this thing, android still has a better UI.
6. My mouse has only one clicker. This is going to be depressing.
7. Everything in Apple is an idea that everyone has had. Problem is, everyone's idea is better than Apple.
8. Siri, your voice sounds a little horse. Meaning you sound like a horse.
HARWARE
1. My camera sucks
2. I dropped it, must buy new screen
3. My phone is unable to be opened. Why must you censor my phone.
4. I need to replace my camera on computer...have to take whole computer.

Sigh.
It helps if you do your research at places other than the apple website. Apple don't make products, they get companies like Foxconn to do it for them, so the quality of apple products is exactly the same as the other brands Foxconn assembles.

I appreciate that this is OT but I think that the more we hear about the iPhone the happier we will be with WM6. The latest news is that it will open Word and Excel attachments! More. OMG!!!!

I would be ecstatically happy with WM6 if someone would just come up with a fingertip interface for it that was consistent.
What there needs to be is a new line of WM6 (or WM7, I guess) that supports the current pen-oriented UI as well as a new, sensible touch-oriented UI. I got really excited about the iPhone when I heard about it, as I am a Mac user, but then became profoundly disappointed when I found out that there would be no SDK. As WM developers, we can write just about anything we want for our phones, but iPhone users are restricted to only what Steve Jobs thinks they should be allowed to do. It's incredibly frustrating.

The HTC Smartphones are hardly cutting edge. 624MHz Xscale? Helloooo, 2004.
We use good products with HTC. The iPhone will be good for a lot of people too; it's not the age of technology, but how it is implemented that counts. I bet the iPhone's camera isn't laggy like the one on my Athena, and it crashes less than my Universal, and doesn't have call/end buttons right under where your fingers are.
There's more to a successful product than just "technology". iPhone isn't for me, I want power and can live with the glitches of WM and HTC devices. There's room in the market for iPhones and Smartphones, and Apple will have done a good job with the user interface and overall usability of the device.

The difference between a WM device and the iPhone is that you can do pretty much whatever you want with a WM device. With the iPhone you are restricted to what Steve tells you you want.
I have a feeling it's going to stay this way, too. Look at the iPod. Years later the best thing you can do with it is buy games from iTunes.
I hope I'm wrong.

You are.
I mean, just above, you are.
It's an iPod. A portable music player. The best thing you can do with it is play music; which it does very well. Better than any Creative or Sandisk devices I've used, better than every alternative I've tried. The iPod + iTunes combination works a LOT better for organising and accessing your music. I don't care if you can't make it make the tea and access GPS whilst it repairs your car. It is exceptionally good at what it is supposed to do.
Of course, bashing the iPod, or slagging off the as yet unreleased iPhone, is really cool and against the grain. Really helps to understand what you're being negative about, though.
See, I don't think the tech matters one bit, either to the fans or detractors.
The fans expect the iPhone to work brilliantly at being a phone and music player.
The detractors wouldn't care if it had 3.5G, 80GB and cost $5. They just don't like - for whatever reason - seeing Apple (and to be fair, pretty much anyone) be a success.
Go figure. I use and advocate WM devices. I use and advocate iPod. I use Macs and have done for 23 years. I also use Windows, and was quite a fan of Windows 2000 when it came out (and before OS X showed up).
Best tool for the job. Don't care WHO makes it. Apple make some very good stuff, which is why they have a loyal folllowing. Yes, people will buy iPhone because of he hype, but I bet it turns out to be a well designed, functional phone. It'll also be vastly more interesting when it becomes iPhone version 3.
Its not windows users that started the bad mouthing. When Jobs says the open platform of windows is unstable and could bring a network down he is starting it. WM is not unstable. I use it constantly with no problems. There is no way to bring down a phone network with a WM device. The network just plain will not let bad info through. I have tried to mess with everything possible on a wm device connecting to a phone network and it is just not possible to adversely effect it.
People who claim that wm is unstable are the same people installing home made apps of sites like this or downloading cracked software from bittorrent. I have no problem with those things but you get what you pay for.
I also must be heavily anti iphone because I am a developer. Jobs has refused developers access to the iphone. Remember that apple was the company that made developers pay for the privilege to program for the original pda, the Newton. Microsoft let us do it for nothing. Apple is anti me.
I hope the iphone is a failure and it sinks apple or they choose to open it, either way is ok with me.
Your argument about the ipod is less than convincing. This is a world of convergence - life made easier by having everything in one place. If I go by your rational I will need to go back to the days of carrying a separate phone, pda and gps. Apple know that the days of single use devices are comming to an end or they would not be taking this gamble. Its also probably the reason no further development in new video ipods has been seen.

What is this, Kindergarten? "He started it!". WM as an open platform IS unstable. Look at the amount of trouble people have with it. Look at the number of newbie posts on here saying they've messed up their handsets. It all depends on your value of "stable".
MS/HTC has absolutely no control over what people put on their handsets. It's great. I love it. I also regularly try apps which utterly break the handset, sometimes ones which SHOULD work, because of the variations in the hardware.
"Could bring a network down" - without context, I can neither agree nor disagree. Supporting the newbies with buggy software, sure. Technology wise? Bollocks. WM devices may be variable "phones", but they do work most of the time.

Or buying CorePlayer and finding it doesn't work correctly, or buying games from the online Handago store and finding they don't handle screen rotation correctly, or buying MS Voice Commander and finding it doesn't correctly replace the phone's own voice tagging applications...
Third party software doesn't have to be "dodgy" to break the handset. Cracked copies of software are frequently fine, likewise, legitimate software can be buggy. It's the fact that the range and variety of devices makes destructive testing near impossible.
Ever used a Palm? Even though the Palm's original OS was small and almost "single platform", I had to reset my Tungsten C constantly, and the Vx I had before that. Inevitably due to third party apps.
Now. I personally WANT the apps. I don't mind rebooting my phone, or having to uninstall something, or make two copies because TomTom can't see voices on the SD card but is slow on Microdrive. I don't mind this, I'm fairly used to it, I like to experiment.
Do I think it's a good user experience. HELL no.

Fine. Make me an Ameo which works reliably, has phone-like battery life, an 80GB HD so it has the capacity of my iPod, is small enough to clip on my shirt like a shuffle, has a 5" screen for watching movies on...
Convergence makes sense to a degree. Devices which do it all are compromised. iPod is an EXCELLENT music player and organiser. I don't want it to be anything else. I don't like the way WM handles files on the Ameo, or any of the alternatives; iTunes is very good at what it does. If my Ameo worked with iTunes - iTunes for Pocket PC, with sync from my desktop library - then I'd perhaps be happier with it. But basically no convergence device does everything well.
Apple will get phone calling and WiFi right. Missing out 3G is stupid and short sighted for a web-phone. But the user interface and build quality will be very suited for the real world applications of the device.
If I go by your rational I will need to go back to the days of carrying a separate phone, pda and gps. Apple know that the days of single use devices are comming to an end or they would not be taking this gamble. Its also probably the reason no further development in new video ipods has been seen.

Two devices together works well for me. I personally like to see music separate - give me phone/PDA with GPS functions, or GPS/Music together. Phone and PDA functions blur anyway. PDA=contacts, appointments - big ol' Filofax. It's natural to link these.
As for third-party apps on the iPhone, I'm ambivalent. If Apple get it right, it won't need any to speak of. The technology isn't interesting enough to push. I'm more interested in what appears - to all intents and purposes - to be OS X on an ARM device.
An OS X PDA would kick arse, IMO. But then you WOULD need third party apps. OS X on Ameo-like hardware? Bring it on.
About that $950 iPhone. You didn't accept or decline my wager. Chicken? Not so confident that the $950 price is correct?
I've been a Windows developer since 1999 - so I hate Apple (bad developer support, proprietary, apart from osx..) and I will naturally hate the iphone. However the iphone is good for the whole mobiles scene. Shakes it up a bit. All the stuff is gimmicky and fairly useless (examples 1. flipping through 100 albums with your fingers? 2. Drag to unlock that needs two hands, 3. the icons on the today screen showing "you have 2 appointments" ..errr.. when? The screen that will obviously break at the slightest contact with the ground - too close to the edge). The list is really endless. The thing I love best is the keyboard they show to type text messages with - its far too small to use with fingers!! Get a stylus dudes!
iphone is a device for current macintosh customers. In which case they'll sell quite a few! I'm looking forward to seeing one in the flesh and slagging it off, as any self-respecting apple-hater should do!

Rapidly increasing market share, opinion formed in 1999 based on Diesel's legacy of frankly outmoded hardware and an operating system that made Windows ME look stable, proprietary "Intel" hardware, OS X /is/ Apple as far as development are concerned, very good developer support now via ADC, tools included with every OS X installation...
The first sign of intelligence is evolution. Sure, feel free to hate Apple (hating a corporation is very smart, after all), but try and do so for the right reasons, before you cut off a large market for your products.

Sorry, but I've got to take exception at that statement. To me it reads:-
"windows is an unstable os because - people muck it up installing rubbish or doing things they don't understand"
and
"the iPhone will have good os because - people can't muck it up installing rubbish or doing things they don't understand, because apple won't let them"
If MS made their ppcs so that the consumers couldn't add programs to it, your argument wouldn't exist.
and how many users (not including people working for the same company) use the exact same setup?

iPhone will not be so locked down that it cannot be personalised. However, you are misinterpreting and misquoting what I said. I don't know how stable the iPhone OS is, and I'm not referring to the stability of the OS.
I'm referring to the stability of the user experience.
Now, my gut feeling (based on the quality of the phone applications in the HTC devices I've used compared to Symbian, SE and Motorola devices) is that in look and feel, user experience and reliability, beating WM would be like shooting fish in a barrel. It works, sure, but it is not pretty, it is not consistent, and it is not reliable. Just witness the caller ID mess on Bluetooth. This isn't a "WM is crap WHAAA" post, it's just an objective observation; you will note that I USE A WM5 AND WM6 DEVICE. By choice. I am aware of the options, and of course I'd like things to be better, but it does the job and the hardware offers a lot of advantages.
Now, if you're really interpreting it the way you say you are, then I suggest you read more closely. I thoroughly expect people to skim the post, see "iPhone good, WM bad", and respond - even though I simply being objective and acknowledging the faults and benefits of BOTH platforms. iPhone is going to succeed, and it's going to do that largely on hype and marketing, but that's not to say that Apple won't have got some things right, because that's what they do. They didn't come to dominate the music player market by producing a product which had all the flaws of the competition with none of the benefits; they polished it and got it right.
HTC make lovely hardware. It runs alright with WM. Give it a better OS and it would be amazing. Is there really any logical reason why the camera on the Ameo is so woefully slow? The call/end buttons on the Universal are positioned RIGHT where your fingers rest if you use it as a phone and have no distinquishing features when not lit? These devices do not have the depth and quality of industrial design that Apple employs in their consumer devices.
What trade do people want to make? Do they want their music library dragged together by Windows Media, including the ringtones it finds on the HD, or do they want iTunes "plug and play" simplicity (and if anyone wants to slag off iTunes, trust me - I have heard all the criticisms before. The ones I'll accept are that it's a bit slow with large libraries, and it doesn't handle a wide range of codecs by default - I've used every device from Archos to Zen and nothing touches an iPod for sheer intuitive behaviour, or iTunes for genuinely maintaining an organised, logical music library).
I will never use itunes because when on it communicates over the internet even if I set it not to. A lot of apps do this of course but with itunes the connectivity is needed so blocking it is not an option. I need to trust that my system is working for me and not apple. If that same problem was on the iphone then because you can't write a firewall for it your privacy is gone.
My employer has over 10000 wm devices and they operate for weeks at a time with no resetting. They get software updates remotely and are mainly used by non technical users. I personaly use these to work with and I have not been able to crash one. We drop them and get them dirty but still they run. Is that unstable.
I would not gamble with you because you seem like a nut to me and I would not want to exchange details with you.
(This post was done using the real keyboard , from a park bench, over 3g, on my dopod 838 pro. Something I will never be able to do with an iphone!)

What absolute, total, drivel. My son uses iTunes on his iMac, has no internet connection whatsoever, and it works perfectly. He can rip CDs, but has to type the track/artist detail in unless it is included (which is very rare), can sync the iPod, etc. He's been doing this for nearly 2 years.

I'm fully aware that these things are stable. Again, I'm talking about end-user experience. Employers with 10,000 identical devices (I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and say "courier services" or "retail" - something along the lines of Intermec handheld data terminals) will generally have specified the software set on the device, it will be limited, and it will be predictable and tested.

*snorts* Whatever. I like to talk about this stuff seriously, I've been using mobile devices of one form or another since the Tandy 102. You interpret me writing so much about it as being a nut? I interpret it as being the reason I'm paid to review hardware professionally. (I'll post pictures of my latest toys soon, one of them will be very interesting I think).

Good for you. Now listen to 7.34GB of music on it for 24 hours without having to recharge. I was posting to Usenet in 1998 from an HP 680LX connected with an Option One GSM datacard; I could make calls on it if I used the wired headset. It's hardly new technology in any sense of the word - each device is merely refining and targeting a specific user base.
This is what you seem to be failing to grasp. iPhone is not inherently bad. It's just not what YOU want. It's not even that expensive; an unsubsidised N73 costs... $500. And it doesn't do many consumer level things that the iPhone does, despite being targeted at that very market.
I may be a nut, but at least I know WTF I'm talking about and don't have an irrational hatred of one company

Yes, and the line from iPhone fans about the iPhone is "it's a phone, iPod and breakthrough internet device. The best thing you can do with it make phone calls, play music and use Safari, which it does very well." This is not sufficient for me, for starters. And Steve's explanation of his "sweet solution" for developing "applications" for the iPhone was a joke and an insult to developers.
Apple is telling its customers to pay $500 for a UI. My TYTN can already do everything the iPhone can do, sans the flashy UI, plus MORE -- UMTS/HSDPA, for starters. It can also run any particular binaries you choose to run on it.
Of course, bashing the iPod, or slagging off the as yet unreleased iPhone, is really cool and against the grain. Really helps to understand what you're being negative about, though.

You think you've got me pegged, but you don't. I am typing this post on my Macbook Pro. For the most part, I love Apple and what they've done with computing. But Steve is taking the company in this "closed device" direction that really, really turns me off. When we were told OS X was essentially UNIX with an Apple GUI, as a geek I got really, really excited, and when I finally got my Mac, Tiger did NOT let me down.
OS X is an excellent example of how the Apple way has, for the last 7 years, been to cater both to nontechnical users and heavily technical users alike. This is what I was expecting from an Apple cell phone. I was, essentially, expecting an OS X PDA phone. This is not AT ALL what we are getting. You can't even cut and paste, ffs!
See, I don't think the tech matters one bit, either to the fans or detractors.
The fans expect the iPhone to work brilliantly at being a phone and music player.

I'm sure they do. And it will. And all of the enormous hardware potential of the iPhone will be utterly wasted.
The detractors wouldn't care if it had 3.5G, 80GB and cost $5. They just don't like - for whatever reason - seeing Apple (and to be fair, pretty much anyone) be a success.

Again, you've got me wrong. I don't care about any of that. I would gladly pay $699 for an iPhone that was actually released with an SDK. Why? I want my Terminal. I want my Adium (or something like it). I want ssh, VNC, VLC, Skype, the GNU toolset, and anything else I want, because there is simply no compelling reason to disallow any of it. The only reason any of this is not possible is Apple's incredibly restrictive software, and the only reason Apple's software restrictions exist is AT&T's greed.
I think the iPhone will be enormously successful, but I have serious doubts Apple will ever meet my needs for a smartphone (or the needs of many, many other potential customers out there).
I call you a nut because you are trying to bet me 50 dollars over the details of an unreleased gadget and because you are so emotionally tied to the idea of the iphone that you can't stop.
I was happy to wait and see back on page one but you just can't stop defending a seemingly inferior product that you don't even have.
I don't trust Apple or microsoft. A phone carries a lot of personal information that could be very damaging in the wrong hands. My point about itunes is that with no third party apps, the iphone will not be safe because any program that apple put on it will be free to do what it wants.
Its like Nokia says, "this is what the pc has become". How many people would trust their microsoft onecare more than their norton or other security suit? Now what about trusting security to no one because their won't be any on an iphone. Just look at the 100 plus security bowser problems patched by apple last week. That's just the tip of the iceberg.
The whole discussion is pointless anyway because we do not have one and by next month it will be hacked to run third party apps anyway like apple tv.

windows phone 7 my feeling

I have had my LG quantum for about two months now and couldn't be happier. I had an iPhone 4 and had gotten in a car accident and every call I mad to my insurance..... Disconnected I had to use someone BlackBerry who was also on att in order to get the proper assitence. So I sold my iPhone and got a Samsung galaxy s device.... It go so boring switching roms and the atrocious line up of apps in the app store got extremely annoying I couldn't any apps that were even near iPhone quality with being an app that I already owned on the iPhone and being that angry birds was their best game.... Waist of my time and by the way the phone I had was the Samsung captivate.
so windows phone 7 came out and I was like why not. I've tried everything else and was barley satisfied so I got the LG Quantum and boy am I pleased. Yea no copy and paste but the OS is amazingly smooth unlike my captivate and the games are what I look for fun and graphically acceptable. Not stupid jokes I wish the twitter app was better but the xbl integration is a work of art. I think I purchased like 12 games and for the most part I am happy.the OS will continue to develop and improve just like everything else. I remember in 08 when I had my g1 or was it 09.... Anyway I read in an article that the os would die because not enough devices or devs.... Well look at Android now. WP 7 is similar just needs a little support and it will blow up because its an amazing os and I'm using my quantum right now to right this. Smooth and quick. So yea I didn.t know where to write this so I did it here thanks for letting me vent

go figure, someone posts something positive about wp7, and the android fanbois come running. I think they search the forum with terms like wp7 and focus.
I love my hd7, facebook integration means I actually check on my friends and family and seismic is a great twitter app. Sounds like IE is getting its own update very soon separate from wp7 updates (according to one of the MS engineers, he said to look for it in between the update coming and mango), and after mango, what will be missing? The only stuff I find annoying is that 3rd party apps can't run in the background yet, so opening links in twitter apps, takes you out of the app and sometimes you lose your place in the timeline.
The multimedia experience on this device has been so much better than winmo or android.

Wp7's UI is different, but I don't think it's beautiful. Besides, Wp7 has been out for a short time, so it has many shortcomings
I have tested it on my Leo for a couple of days and despite it´s nice I decided to go back to WM/Non NAND Android combo which is the best for me.

C'mon man how is it an iPhone wanna be? U sound stupid so any smartphone that takes a simplistic user friendly approach is a smartphone wanna be? Ur an idiot
I am a neutral person.
So before anyone shoots childish insults at me, I don't give a damn about them
In my honest opinion I have had and handled all three of the mobile OS and I believe each has their advantages and disadvantages, as all things in life nothing is perfect.
iOS: Alittle too closed off for my tastes. I enjoy a few of the apps on there but for everyone who says that the Android market has stupid apps...guess what??? SO DOES APPLE! I have seen soo many stupid ass repetitive zombie apps on there I was sick. On top of that it doesn't allow SD support, which is also a personal problem, I don't like that you have to rely on Apple's App store to download and control your apps. Aside from that it is a nice OS if you jailbreak it and mod it yourself.
Windows Mobile: Well, this was my first mobile OS honestly. I enjoyed the ROM support on it but when it came to the app department you needed to have a freaking treasure hunt just to find a decent game haha You could also have a decent amount of customization because you can change the registry and such and whatnot, but it was a lot easier to screw up and have problems with the OS.
Android: I have been using this OS ever since I got my HD2 haha I agree with the retarded apps in the market but it's easy to pick out the good ones from the retarded ones, in my opinion. When it comes to apps as well you can easily download and install an .apk from online or store it on your sd card instead of having to rely on the market to dominate your every move. I also think Android is the best one for customization, with iOS you can't even change your keyboard, you always get the same dull crap, wm is a little better but you can't really adjust your home without adding more programs on top of programs, using more memory than you really should just for one thing. Plus...flash, enough said.
Windows Phone 7: I have seen, touched, played with and borrowed a WP7, I do not like it. I didn't have it in my possession for an entirely large amount of time so I can't say much about it. Yes the WP7 is new and developing still but so was Android, and honestly even when Android matured what happened to it overall? Speed? A little bit of change in the look of it? I do not see too much noticeable change coming from it in the long run, just a few tweaks here or there. Some people call them Iphone wannabes...so do I. I believe that Jobs and Gates wanted to compete to see whose phone can be the most restrictive and simplistic. And again with iPhone as well, with simplicity comes beauty, yes it looks nice, but you can't really do sh*t to it besides adding live tiles...which isn't all that impressive. I believe that the WP7 is basically a Microsoft version of iOS. PLUS! You can't even put a freaking SD card into the phone without taking it apart and having it formatted to your device and losing all of your data on there.
Hate it or love it that is my opinion on these different OSs.

Coming from a WM6 / 6.5 background - at first I found WM7 frustrating. (I've only had the phone a few days).
Initially the whole idea of having ALL contacts in one place completely freaked me out. Then I realised the O/S is sensible enough to only offer phone contacts when messaging / calling. Luckily most of my FB 'friends' haven't added phone contact details - but when they do, I'll be back to being slightly screwed on that front. Having de-duped and linked accounts, things don't seem so bad ... but I still think having overall groupings for contacts would help me in the long run. (I haven't seen what's due in any updates, so it's something that may be coming).
Asides from the Zune-like interface, the one thing that is frustrating me most is the lack of RDP software. I used that a lot on my XDA zest.
Oh, and not supporting custom ring-tones out of the box is annoying too. Like with any MS O/S, you just have to get used to it....
So far though I'm thinking it's working faster / better for me than 6.5 was with few issues, so I'm fairly happy about it.

I don't understand the iPhone hate in the world. The psychologist in me says there must be some jealousy. The iPhone does some things very, VERY well. It's beautifully designed hardware. It's very reliable and generally just works.
That said, there's a few reasons I like Android better:
- Better, less intrusive notification system
- More freedom in what to use - no apps blocked out because of stupid rules (think Google Voice)
- Swype keyboard availability
- Google Maps GPS
But the iPhone has:
- Better Applications, especially games
- Better hardware design (aesthetically) than any Android phone
- Less platform fragmentation and more regular updates
If Apple licensed Swype, and created something other than their pop-up notifications, I would seriously consider switching. No questions. Both are great products and should be recognized as such. Windows Phone 7 is also very nice for those who only need to do what it can do.
I'm surprised you don't hear it said more often but i've always seen the iphone as more of a ladies device, whereas Android is more for the gents.
Is that just me?
Men are generally more practical and we enjoy our tools, (ahem), ladies like to accessorise.

the first two your points for the iphone are subjective. for your third one, Forced updates are not necessarily a good thing.
Here are my subjective counter arguments.
Hardwarewise the iphone is lacking, (Sd card? USB port?) and is easily broken (not to mention antenna fail)
Software wise the iphone is lacking (neutered bluetooth, boring interface) The apps and games are not all that different to android, both markets are being constantly updated.
Apple have to release updates very often , Because its the only one phone apple got , So, they can easily do it but other OEM Cant do for all models

Sure, I'm being a big subjective, but so are you with "boring interface." The iPhone 4 is glass and metal. Premium materials all around in a way nothing compares to. Neutered Bluetooth? I quit caring about Bluetooth the day I got a smartphone. Bluetooth (when not crippled) is great on dumbphones, but seems to me to have little purpose on a smartphone. As for the "antenna fail" - it's mostly myth. People I know with iPhone 4's are getting great reception. You basically just have to avoid touching it on the antenna breaks - which are easy to see and clear to avoid, and they're not in places where MOST people would touch it in the normal use of the phone. The only way you'd really naturally touch them is if you're gripping the phone with your whole hand.
I'm not saying it's perfect, I love the flexibility of Android. I'm just saying - there's some things that Samsung, Motorola, HTC, etc could learn from Apple on.

8 gb internal memory, has a link cable. AT&T had the antenna issue, issue fixed with Verizon version. AT&T network also part to blame on that too. The SD card and USB port are more like features, not actually needed.

Bluetooth works just fine for communication, and the interface is to each their own. I like it a lot. The apps and games I've seen and used on Ios are a lot more polished than those on Android. For a good reason though, Apple has control over the apps. Android has an open market. Plus, in my opinion the games on ios are way better. I only thing I like in games that android has that doesn't need root, are emulators.
I like both platforms, I wish frash would be more developed for ios. I might be getting on Verizon and getting one, if not probably gonna get the Thunderbolt if the LTE is only $30 and not $50.

That comment makes no sense whatsoever. An iphone is not simple because it only has one button. It's built that way because that's what the software needs.
even if it's the other way around (software optimized for hardware) the iphone is not a "toy phone". It's as fast and powerful as most android devices.
Apple's guidelines are a different story and it hampers the phone, but as a device, it can go head to head with any current android phone.

in short , i believe u meant to say : the revolutionary software is built around one magical button
Guys, seriously, what's the point in arguing this stuff. It just screams of jealousy. The iPhone 4 is great hardware. It's very similar inside to a Samsung Galaxy S. The screen is smaller, but higher resolution - different for different needs. The design is very elegant and classy.
The software? Eh, it's fast and looks good at first. I hate the popup in-your-face notifications though, and it's rather repetitive.
The App Store? This is where I really start to hate the iPhone - the "you can't do that because we say so" attitude. This would be fine if sideloading apps was allowed, but it's not. And THAT is my big issue with the iPhone.
But arguing that the hardware isn't very high end is silly. And the one button isn't even to make it simpler, it's not - having physical buttons is easier. It's to make it more minimalist and look nicer. The same reason by the time Apple finally started including multi-button mice with Macs, they did so once the technology was in place to make it look and feel like a one-button mouse. Sure, the one-button mouse was slow and hard to use. But it looked good. The new Apple mice are amazing though - one physical button, but a touch surface that recognizes where you're pushing on the mouse. Likewise with the new Apple trackpads - one GIANT touch surface with no discernable button, but it works great! The old true one-button Apple mice though were a crime against humanity - and there's a reason almost nobody professional actually used the mouse that came with their Mac in those days.

I'm surprised you don't hear it said more often but i've always seen the iphone as more of a ladies device, whereas Android is more for the gents.
Is that just me?
Men are generally more practical and we enjoy our tools, (ahem), ladies like to accessorise.

Yes. It definitely is just you. I'm sorry but that's just unfair of you to say that. I most definitely AM A LADY and, I wouldn't be caught dead with an iPOS. Please don't generalize like that again. Oh and as for your little comment about accessories. I CUSTOMIZE my N1 to my hearts content. I am deeply offended by your comments.

It's a button that does the same as the home button on any android device. So android can search or go back using physical buttons, there's no inherent difference that those options are built into iphone UI.

I completely agree; we like to spend more time tinkering with the phone, customizing it to our liking.
I do see a lot more women with iPhones, and the women that i do see with android phones (galaxy s or whatever), use all stock applications and launchers and maybe have Angry Birds on there or something.
Screens too small. I'll have me a nice big android phone any day.
I am currently using a 7 inch gsm/3g tablet as my phone and I love it. fits into my pockets too. zte v9.
Nice hardware. Too small. Like the macbook air.

Envious Iphone users thread

Lol. I just made the switch today from the HTC one x. So far I love everything about this phone.

Lol that guy in post 3 is a joke. Another brainwashed Apple fan boy. The only thing he is correct about is that the iPhone is easier to see in the sun. IPhone 5 is only getting a bigger screen because they are losing market share, same goes for turn by turn navigation.
By getting it right I assume he means "waits for someone else to innovate, then copies them and claims to be innovative"

it's just crazy thinking how these apple fan boys brag about their phone compared to android but deep inside they're envious.
Ok ok I don't think 3 post is from Apple washed brained. He is just 'trying' to explain the benefits of the iphone over android, but he fails with every word he said. The apple ecosistem is nearly perfect but if you are not into iphone doesn't worth it so much... They bring you a seamless experience more than features...

Love apple fanboys having their little rages if anything bad is said about iPhone, or their messiah Steve Jobs (who, I'm sure some apple fanboys believe will rise from the dead.)
Not shocking one bit. Most of my coworkers have iphone and whenever they're at my desk, they always play with my phone for minutes on ends and would forget why they're there for. I, on the other hand, could care less about a toy phone that predates 2008.
Got my first "smartphone" in 2010. I had the option of SGS1 vs iPhone 3GS and I went with the iPhone 3GS. Probably one of the worst decision of my life, if not THE worst decision. Told my sister to get the SGS1 when her contract expires in a months time and swapped phones right away.
I'd say that for first time users who are not computer savvy at all (and to some extent a bit lazy) will like the iPhone, everything is there for you and iTunes is pretty much a one stop shop for anything/everything. No tinkering required at all except a few email setup/account syncs. Basically, a boring phone. The only thing you can really "develop" is an app.
Android on the other hand is a pandora's box. The amount of open source developing, customisation, tweaks, themes, roms is just amazing. You can pretty much mix and match different options from ROMS/Themes and have your phone the way you want it.
Unless the next few versions of iPhone have 3D Holographic tech, strippers/lap dance included, unlimited free drinks at any bar in the world, a batmobile and 10% of its shares, it will be inferior to the Android any day.
Muhahahaha
It's funny how you introduced yourself there in the thread. Lol.

So someone's waiting for the iphone 5. More 'advance tech' like expandable memory, bigger-than-3.5 inch screen and removable battery. Lol
And oh, i almost forgot, even funnier Siri.

You don't mean advanced tech, like the super advanced SD card so you?
My sister's partner had an iPhone, with a pin, he passed away and no one knows the pin, the only way to make it usable is a factory reset, which will wipe all data, as we all know, including pics, music etc.
Or even the even more advanced tech like a fail safe if you forget your pin, similar to how android allows you to sign into your google account if your pin is entered incorrectly.
They will get a minor hardware upgrade. Bigger screen maybe, just maybe, a quad core processor and definitely a new version of ios. Too bad ios will still stuck, you will still have to enslave yourself to the iTunes store, you still won't be able to pull the battery and insert a fresh spare when it's flat, and you'll have to wait until after android owns you again before you have to pay thru the nose again for another minor hardware update.

Ordered my 32GB S3 from Sprint today so should be getting it by Friday at the latest. I've been dying to have it in my hands after being around so many friends who own an iPhone and being able to flaunt it in their faces. However, with the iPhone 5 just around the corner, I'm a little worried that I won't be able to make them as envious as us Android users have been able to do for quite some time now. We've had bigger screens, turn-by-turn GPS, more powerful phones, etc. but as Samsung's new CEO said the future of smartphones will be primarily about the software on it and it's a lot easier to show off a bigger, beautiful screen to an iSheep than to try and explain to them software advantages.
lol at this thread... nice to be in some educated company for a change instead of putting up with apple fanboy drivel. Isheep LMFAO

For this, I have thanked you. Funniest quote of the day.
I laugh at Apple fanboys tbh. The amount of things I can do with Android without altering it is endless; while with altering the possibilities are endless. As for their iPhone; they need to Jailbreak it to even change slight things.
Apple goes for innovation, and new ideas.. But these "new ideas" are not new, and is always at least one year old by the time they release their phone.

Plus, we have all seen the ios 6 video. The features suck. There is no new ones. Nothing interesting. I used to be a bit brainwashed by apple when I did a bit of development for my touch, but I don't think I'll even buy one of those now. Even all my friends who think apple is the best are seeing my beast sgs and saying "damn why don't I have one of those?"

iPhones are just popular because they are easy to use and are updated often and quickly. It's a painless process to upload your music, movies and photos. iOS has a huge app library with very nice quality apps. The phones look great and perform well. Using one iPhone means you pretty much know how to use any iPhone. This is unlike Android where music management is a nightmare. The Play store is flooded with low quality apps and poor support. Using one Android phone means you know nothing about all the other Android phones. In short, to the non tech geek iPhones are the go-to. They are popular because they are easy to use. It also helps that Apples products are usually a status symbol.
The downside to not having Android is your limited in customization of ROMs or kernels. That doesn't mean you can't customize iOS. You just can't go as far as you can with Android.
Android Phones gives you more freedom.
Apple iPhones gives you less headaches.

Could not have said that better IPhone is perfect when you just want the phone that works without much hassle. Android is perfect when you love tweaking and playing with your phone and not actually use it that much Because with a android you are never satisfied, there is always something more to tweak, change rom and other stuff so for me it always ends with just messing with it. To much time tweaking and flashing to find the perfect setup
Although the tweaking and flashing is a massive plus with Android for me, an even bigger plus is the ability to download files like mp3s and pdfs etc from the net or a torrent and play them straight away. With IOS you can't. Android is much more like a true mini pc compared to IOS. That's why I could never go back to IOS.

Oh yeah, the mp3 download is a big factor for me. My friends ask me where I buy music. I said it's free and I use my phone, and showed a friend once... he just kept quiet. If you reverse the situation, I'm sure they'd be bragging.

Given the way the OP phrased his post - I think we were both accurate But yes you are right. There are plenty of people accessing content they haven't paid for on iOS too.
as an ex-iphone user (went from S1 to iphone 4 then iphone 5, back to S3 and every samsung since then) i have a similar view on them.
iPhones are simple to understand - not simple to use. there is always one way to do something, and thats it.
For many people thats preferable to feeling like an idiot when there is 10 ways to do something. go to android and watch a movie "oh it didnt work" - you tell them to try BS player or MX player and they just throw their hands in the air, because the built in video player is holy and sacred.
The reason for the simplicity is simple: On apple, every last thing is designed to come from itunes, and be played by the apple stock apps. there is one source to get the content, one app to play them, and the only thing that seperates the users is how much money you have to throw at the apple ecosystem - once someone has spent a few hundred bucks on iTunes content they'll never leave, because they add that value to offset the cost of a new phone. $900 iphone? pfft,i have $2K in iTunes, it might as well be free!"
on android, you can buy them from a dozen sources, pirate them, copy them from your PC - and you have infinite playback options. its simply too complex for people who bought the phone without knowing *WHY* they bought that phone, since they dont use most of its capabilities anyway. These are the common iSheep, the people who bought it because it's cool and looks fancy, but use it like a nokia.
Everyone i've converted from apple to samsung has followed the same path as well "why? this does the same things as my iphone, but the iphone is prettier and has itunes" - they do a direct comparison without even considering what the phone can do BEYOND the iphones capabilities. Showing them the S-pen, or directly playing files off my NAS/PC over wifi, or MHL/HDMI, or the note 4's super fast charging blows them away.
the iphone is the baseline, and they're so used to having just ONE choice that when presented with two or three or 10, they simply treat all the options as the same.
"i hate android" means "i used one android phone once, and they're all the same right?" - this also goes for themes, keyboards, stock apps and so on.

Pretty much. I was really over whelmed when I came back to Android. I was used to things just working out of the box. Now I have to rebuild my music collection from Google Play as that is eaiser then attempting to transfer from iTunes. Took a few days before I got the hang of flashing and building from source. Things have changed as if you keep in mind my iPhone is now just a really expensive GameBoy Advance and remote. My Note 4 is my daily driver.
So, on iPhone there is no proper PGP support, no NFC APIs (so no support for secure tokens such as Yubikey, or even NFC tags), no low level network APIs (so you can't implement your own protocol, such as OpenVPN).... (I could go on and on)
It seems like a no-go to me, it is pretty much locked down as well, even though you actually purchased the device you can't do anything on it that's not endorsed by Apple, that's why I strayed away from the iPhone in the first place (I used to own an iPhone 3GS, that's until I swiched to android and never came back).
As someone that works in IT, and need to handle sensitive data, iOS is just not the system for me.

But that's the thing of course. If you work in IT, you most probably want an android. However if you don't know sh*t about IT, which 98% of the people don't, an iphone really might be the better option. You dont have to worry about battery drains, wakelocks, background apps running, viruses, etc. It just does what it's supposed to do when a monkey operates it.
But if you're in IT, you most likely want to do some more stuff, go more in depth and then Android is clearly the OS of choice.
I like iphone coz everybody knows when u have an iphone. But you have to tell that you have a Note 4 coz there are hell lot of samsung mobile with similar looks. Also there is atleast 1 year surity that apple will not release another phone with similar looks. Also with some restrictions removed like access to files or install from external source could make apple on top.But guess this is how ios will be.Although I can now play movies & songs from external source by an app called xender atleast making it usable

For me is simple, if I use iPhone I will become dump, if I use android I will be generous because android is for geek not for dump. Yes lol most of the people use apple iPhone but they are totally useless in technology. There are a lot of iPhone user who even don't know simple problems in smart phone world. My company have a lot of previous ios user try to use android and return back to iPhone because very simple problem in android (simple problem for android user) is bothering them, that android user can solve the problem in just few second. I have a lot of friends using iPhone and always come to me with some simple problem I just laugh and says only one word..... useless guys. They always says iPhone is very smart.. ha ha.. i always says ..yes you are dump and go study first.
I am not insulting them, I just want them to not blind and open eye, Technology is changing, iPhone is good but not perfect, android is good but not for normal user same as window phone.
