Can someone help me with the ClockworkMod Recovery Captivate (MTD) - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I rooted my Samsung Captivate by using SuperOneClick, I am I trying to install CM7.
From the Marked I installed the Rom Manager, but it fails to flash ClockworkMod Recovery Samsung Captivate (MTD). It says "Samsung Captivate (MTD) does not have an official supported ClockworkMod Recovery yet. Have you installed a ClockworkMod based Recovery manually? Yes/No"
If I choose 'Yes' and select ClockworkMod 2.x it says "Rom Manager has been set up to use your existing recovery installation."
If I choose 'No' then the message is "Sorry! Until ClockworkMod recovery is availble, ROM Manager will not work with Samsung Captivate (MTD).
I tried to install CM7 from SD Card, it just return the the Samsung reboot menu (3e). And it doesn't have an option to allow me to select "Install zip from sdcard"

I follow this link to install CM7:

Can you show me the page said "Don't use ROM Manager"? so what software I should use to flash my phone?
I am new to this. Please help. Thanks

Ugh bad instruction from devs.... Just flash a kernel with CWM (Boog's, Corn or Samurai) jump on recovery and flash. Before you start make sure 1) your button combos work (if they don't or you want to get GB bootloaders) 2) have ALL the .zips that you will use in your phone before hand. If you flash one of the kernels I mentioned and you are on the wrong version of android it will NOT bootup, but will boot in Recovery (cwm). Once in CWM flash away as on instruction (if you wan't to Nandroid then you need to flash the correct rom/kernel before had)

[Q] Galaxy S 2.2 CWM Issue - Help!

Hey Guys,
I have an International I9000 Galaxy S.
The problem is that I have installed 2.2 Froyo through Kies, then rooted and attempted to install ClockWorkMod with ROM Manager. Whenever I flash and boot recovery, I'm taken to the 3e Recovery Menu, not the CWM Menu.
I can't understand why it refuses to boot :/
Please help a noob
Anyone? .
hi
ive never used rom manager so cant comment on that but why dont you go into dev forum and check out the roms there and on the OPosts theres directions that are easy to follow
most of the kernals have recovry built in
regards

I'm not entirely sure, as I don't use Rom Manager either, but I believe that only flashes it so you're only able to access it using Rom Manager. Is there any option within Rom Manager that allows you to boot into CWM?
In my opinion your best bet would be to flash a kernel with integrated CWM, or ideally a whole new custom rom. Much easier.

Reason being is because 3e does not work with CWM. Only 2e is supported. Check the CFRoot thread, and if your rom falls into the firmware listed, you're in luck. Otherwise, like myself on Froyo JK4, I need to downgrade to 2.1 via Odin, then reboot into CWM.

You do not need to "downgrade" you just need to install a different kernel.
I recommend this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756

[Q] Problem with Rom Manager Premium

I am having an issue with Rom Manager Premium. It won't let me backup my current ROM. I select the option and it just asks me for a filename then reboots the phone into recovery mode. I check my SD card for a backup file and nothing gets created... What gives?
I've tried googling my problem, but people say to select the "Flash Alternate Recovery" option, but it's greyed out for me. And I have the latest version of Clockwork Mod 2.5.1.2
I am running an ATT Captivate SGH-I897 with the leaked 2.2 froyo rom on the Rogers network in Canada.
Dev will also not respond to my emails.
Suggestions?
I would suggest to go into recovery then advanced I believe then choose backup. Then if you go back into rom manager you will see a backup. Rom manager is just doing the same function. I usually just use the backup or restore from recovery menu anyways and I have rom manager premium also.

I think I have this same issue with my ROM Manager now backing up. I don't have the premium version. But my phone just reboots into Recovery whenever I select "Backup Current ROM" from the ROM Manager. Then when I go back to ROM Manager and select "Manage and Restore Backups", nothing happens.
So the workaround is confusing for me.
Select "Reboot into Recovery" using the ROM Manager to go into recovery mode? I have no idea where this advanced menu is either.
I'm just a newbie to ROM Manager and trying to figure out where to see my backups of my ROM....if they even exist.
did you guys follow the directions and FLASH CLOCKWORK RECOVERY from within ROM manager?
then when it boots to regular recovery did you try REINSTALL PACKAGES?
that will put you into clockwork recovery and you can do a backup from there

Yes I did that first step. There is a similar post with another fix and an update.zip file attached. I tried that but it froze up during the backup. I think I ran out of space on my internal SD card. I'm not sure how much space I need to do a backup but I only have about 1200MB left on my internal. I'm trying to clear things out. My external 4Gb card is nearly maxed as well. I really want to get a 32Gb external soon.
my clockwork backups are right around 750mb

I found out what the problem was... the leaked 2.2 froyo rom I'm running uses the <3e> recovery which I guess is not compatable with ClockworkMod. When I try to reinstall packages it gives me a verification failed message.
So I guess I need to flash a different kernel, or find another workaround. What was the update.zip workaround mentioned before? Could you please post a link?

the update.zip will not work for you if you are on the leaked 2.2 with 3e recovery.
you will need to find a kernel that allows the unsigned zips or 2e recovery...they are in these forums, i will try to find a link

[Q] How to download clockworkmod and install while offline?

Hello.
ROM manager is unable to download clokworkmod recovery. Maybe because I'm in a "sanctioned country" CUBA and I have a lot of internet restrictions from both Google and my ISP.
My question is: Can I manually download clokworkmod recovery and copy it on the SD card and have ROM manager install it?
If the answer is yes: How? and where do I find Clockworkmod for the captivate?
i897 stock 2.1.1 rooted and unlocked.
Thanks.

all rom manager does is put this zip file on your sdcard. its not needed.
just drop this on the root of your sdcard, reboot to recovery and reinstall packages twice. CWM will come up then

the one caveat to this ... make sure you have the 2e boot loader when you boot into recovery. The 2e bootloader is the stock bootloader that comes with froyo. 3e will require you to have the update packages signed, and therefore will need to downgrade to 2e before you can switch to CWM.

Wrong.
2e RECOVERY comes from firmware 2.1, which the OP stated he was on. Froyo comes with 3e recovery. Has nothing to do with bootloader, because the bootloaders are the same between eclair and Froyo.

GREAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Working, one more question. I noticed three things:
1 - If I reboot to recovery again it goes into stock recovery (2e). Then I hit reinstall packages only once and ClockWorkMod comes up.
2 - If I delete the update.zip from the sd card CWM will not work.
3 - ROM Manager still says that CWM is not installed therefore is not working OK.
Is all this ok? Should I select: "Install sdcard:update.zip" while in CWM? Should I do something else?

That sounds pretty normal to me. If you are getting into CWM then thats all that really matters. The deal with ROM manager is that it doesnt work very well with our phones. But if you are trying to flash a custom ROM you can still do it without ROM Manager. However, you need to read up about the rom you want to flash because it is a slightly risky process. Its as risky as using ROM Manager and almost Russian roulette if you dont read.
But do not delete the update.zip after you install it. I dont know if it messes with the boot process of recovery mod but I do know its better to have that backup file on your SD card already if you run into a problem later on.
Don't bother with ROM manager. Its close to useless with SGS phones. Make sure your 3 botton combo works and you should be golden. Also making a jig isn't a bad idea also, just incase you do screw up and you get in a softbrick where your keycombos decide to not work.

[Q] ClockworkMod Recovery Mode HELP!

Can anyone help link me or teach me how to set up my phone to get into Clockwork Mod Recovery mode? whenever i try to reboot into Clockwork, it just boots into 3e recovery. I have an AT&T Samsung Captivate with stock 2.3.5 Gingerbread rooted and i have already flashed the latest version of ClockworkMod Recovery (2.5.1.2)
I want to overclock my captivate but i cant unless i can get ClockworkMod Recovery to work
Try flashing a rom with CWM already baked into it.
And PLEASE DO NOT use ROM Manager. It doesn't work on the Captivate.

FFS... you are using rom manager.. it hasnt supported captivate since 2.1 eclair.
2.5 clockwork is nowhere near the latest. at version 5 now.
and when rom manager used to work, you boot into 3e recovery then select install update.zip TWICE. (every time)
THEN you will boot into CWM.
**but you arent on android 2.1 so it will error out. then you are going to create another thread for a question that has been answered a million times already.
why do you need clockwork to overclock your phone??? (you dont)
might want to learn what stickies are and go read them for a few days before you F%%% up your phone predominantly. read the new user guide while you are at it.

this is what i am trying to do. I just got into ClockworkMod Recovery somehow but now i cant get out. It keeps looping between the at&t screen and CWM
Any suggestions? or should i reflash the stock rom for 2.3
august 2010... do you think that works on gingerbread when it was released before froyo was released??
i told you to read before you **** up your phone. are we going to listen now?

flash this kernel .tar with odin
or in CWM (now) go to Mounts and Storage > Mount USB > (plug phone into PC)
copy over the .zip kernel from the thread, then unmount > back > flash zip from sdcard > choose corn kernel.zip
In odin, do i flash as PDA, Bootloader, etc?
im a bit new to this, so i dont no all these fancy pancy stuff

if you are flashing a kernel then it will go in PDA section but if you are flashing stock 2.3 fw then all the files will go to their respective places
Should I use this link for Captivate with 2.3.4?
Hi,
You told a guy who was trying to get clockwordmod recovery on his captivate, to use this:
[KERNEL][KK4][1/28/11] Corn Kernel v7.06 from Source (OC, BLN, Voodoo Sound, etc.)
Should I also take that advice? I want to put AOKP on the phone, but I have to get clockwork on there first and the normal way doesn't work because of the 3e recovery unsigned business. Thank you much for your expertise and for being a great help to everybody.

Installing ROM- recovery issue on 2.2

My phone is a Captivate running 2.2 . I have rooted it, installed ClockworkMod Recovery via ROM Manager, and have an ICS ROM on my interal storage.
However, when I boot into recovery mode, I am taken to Android system recovery <3e>, which doesn't give me an option to install a ROM (or to continue installing a ROM, if I try to install with ROM Manager). I can delete cache, and 'reinstall packages', but that gives me a signature verification error.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing? Is ClockWorkMod Recovery not installed correctly? Is there a particular issue with 2.2?
Last week I put a ICS CyanogenMod ROM onto a Kindle, so I understand the flow of things.
Thanks!
"3e" recovery issue....
That's odd
See TRusselo's "Guide" that is a stickied thread in the Q&A Forum...
