Had the same problem too....sometimes when the phone is hot, theres a delay between making calls and the phone actually dialling. For info i'm on standard kl3 rom rooted with cf kernel. Phone is on on demand gov standard speed 1.4ghz. Appreciate any help...thanks.
I'm running Abyss 2.3, 100 - 1400 with Smartass V2 Governor. And it works fantastic I must say. You might wanna try a new Kernel FM 1.5 or Abyss 2.3
It's normal for the CPU to warm up when you're playing games and anything causing the CPU to run at max for a long time.
Install CPU Spy from the market and make sure you're phone goes into deep sleep and monitor the other frequencies as well.
After installing new roms or kernels the phone usually gets warm as well. Just reboot and it should be okay after a couple of minutes. That's what I experienced on my Note
Mine is completely stock... Haven't even installed 3 apps yet. The phone is never in a case and the heat appears to originate from the camera area any thoughts or ideas or am I just over reacting?
Btw the phone doesn't slow down or act different operationally just gets warm lol
below 20% of battery power any device getting hot.

Mine gets pretty hot in same area wen playing games, its just the processor heating up, sure it for force close the app, if it couldn't handle it!
Yeah.. Any processor will get hot when running. Remember there's nothing to keep it cool! So I think if you put it on your cheek and it stings after a while there may be a problem. Otherwise it's pretty normal for the Note.

I have noticed that when I run games such as Modern Combat 3 for a while my note starts to heat up. My S2 used to heat up a bit too. But once it's heated up the whole phone starts to lag. It feels like the CPU and GPU are throttling.
Once the phone cools down a bit, it starts speeding back up. This happens on stock speeds, OCed speeds, and even when underclocked and undervolted.
Happens on all of the kernels. I run on stock 2.3.6 rom with any of the custom kernels.
Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me?
EDIT: Or could it be it locks max FPS to 30?
I found this happened to me this morning, i tried MC3 for the first time and the phone was hot when i put it in my pocket.
My phone is retail stock no mods at all.
Same thing happens to me.
Every more demanding game makes my Note heat a lot, and then I start to face slowdowns. The last game that I saw making this was Baseball Superstar 2012.
Completely stock.
It's meant to happen. There is code in the kernel to avoid frying the CPU. It downclocks the CPU when too hot. It appears the gpu does not downclock from the code. Be careful when overclocking. I don't think the overclock frequencies are included in the code.

I have the overheating issue as well, or at least it feels unusually warm (which is foreign and new to me) when I play games like Zenonia 4 which is extremely sharp and appears to be made for HD screens.
I'm a little unnerved by how hot the phone got the first time when I played it for 45 minutes that now I never play more than 20 minutes in a sitting and learn to space out my gaming.
If it as you say, is there a chance that the increased heat for a prolonged duration could permanently damage the gpu?
Specially while playing HD games like Modern Combat 4, The Dark Knight Rises, N.O.V.A 4 etc..............
My phone doesn't get hot more then 38-40 *C even after half and hour of HD gaming.
But I still want to know exactly what might be the max CPU and Battery Temperature limit?

I have T, but it's very similar phone.
The limit for the battery is around 60°C and for CPU it's around 100°C. Every temperature beyond the limit causes the phone to shut down.
Of course it's a softwate feature and you can disable this by deleting sysmon.cfg file in /system/etc but it's highly dangerous and completely unrecommended.

and tx(all xperia maybe) have some overheating control app in system that monitoring the thermal of the device ..you don't need to worry about it

Thank you very much. I don't worry about the temperature. But when HD gaming, i'm a little worried about the screen, cuz it gets hot too. I hope the temperature won't do any harm to my TX's screen.
I think the T and TX housing is too close to the Processor that's why it gets a little hotter rather then other phone. :cyclops:
Don't worry about the screen. It will be ok but remember not to heat your phone for a very long time because then it may damage.
Besides just take a look at PC's LCD monitors. Touch it and you will see it's pretty warm too It's normal.
And the last thing - the brighter your screen is, the faster your phone gets hot!

Thnaks for ur help. My Xperia TX never gets hot or even a little warm while Charging, Seeing Movie or Browsing. Just gets hot when high HD gaming. I am a Android game lover.

2. Don't play while charging.

I think the heating issue is common in all modern smartphones. I used HTC Smartphone like HTC Evo 3D, HTC Desire HD but they never gets hot no matter what you do with the phone. Even after hours of gaming battery temperature shows maximum 31-32 *C.

Maybe yhese smartphones have pretty big space between the CPU and the battery so even when the CPU heats up it does not heat the battery.
On the Xperia T it's very close to the battery and not covered with any radiator or a piece of metal etc so the heat can easily "access" the battery and heat it up.

Hey its strange that if I use back cover(costly one) after some time battery temperature shows 29 and if I remove the cover it shows 30. Why is that? :cyclops:

i dont even know your temp and i can tell you its normal. if it goes above 70C, cpu temp, then thermal throttle sets in. if it hits 100C, your device will automatically shut down. anything below 40C is normal when not being used. anything below 100C is normal when being used. it will all depend how hard you are pushing your cpu. the harder you push it, the higher the temps will go.
there isnt a normal temp that it should be at, when in deep sleep, when being used, and when being used hard. there are too many variables to answer that correctly. so, there is no standard temp that it should be at.

I didn't need a standard temps I'm just asking to know if my temps are normal because my phone can get really hot with really simple tasks such as surfing the internet I'm talking about 50+ for the CPU which we can say that can be normal since I live in tropical country but what is not normal is the battery temepreture which most of the time above 38 to 43 and that makes the phone hot when I'm holding it

50+ is normal. and your body temp is 37C, so your battery temp is not hot at all, but normal. your phone will shut down automatically if your battery temp reaches 60C(to cool off). the only way ive seen it reach that warm was with playing cpu intensive games while charging or by streaming a movie while charging.

You know what worries me is I compared it to the note 4 the exynos version in the same condition as my wife has it and it's running really cool and nowhere near to this temperatures I'm having on the nexus 6

samsung sets up their cpu much differently than how google does. the note 4 also has the same sized battery as the n6, but its battery lasts longer on average. google also adds in a cpu temp throttle, where samsung doesnt. and the cpu is completely different anyways.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I wanted to mention a problem with the app you mentioned:
It turns out that app you mentioned: cpu temperature is actually only reporting battery temperature! (I confirmed by observing that the single reported temperature matched my phones battery temperature and was far less than any of the four cpu temperatures reported by cpu-z).
I am curious if anyone knows of an app that will provide a trend of cpu temperature(s) over time, rather than displaying only the present-time cpu temperatures like cpu-z
Well my Nexus 6 has started getting really hot even with moderate usage. Its not like it burns my hand but it gets uncomfortable at times and it worries me.
If I'm just browsing on chrome, checking out Facebook, or playing a simple game like Crossy Roads, the phone starts getting really warm and after a while its really hot. Even when on WiFi it becomes hot. I have to close all the apps and leave it for a while so that it cools down. I don't have a lot of apps open all the time and I have a lot of memory remaining.
I can't really figure out what's the problem, any suggestions?

+1 Facebook application consumes extreme amounts of battery and system resources. That would be my first suggestion as well. Uninstall Facebook and see if you notice an improvement.
It would be easier to suggest something if you let us know if you are stock or have been playing with roms/ kernels and their settings.... I have seen other phones get hot with too aggressive kernel settings.....
first off, what cpu temperature ate you talking about? secondly, feel does not give you am accurate temperature reading, all its does is show you if something is hotter, or cooler, than your hand. thirdly, your phone can get up to 99C in temp. at 100C, the boiling point of water, your phone would automatically shut down to cool off. now while using your phone, especially when using the cpu hard, it will get hot. but that is normal. you own a quad core phone with a 2.65ghz cpu. do you really expwct it to stay cold?

My CPU temperature is around 41 degrees Celsius and when it gets warm to the point that its uncomfortable is around 58-60 degrees Celsius.
In know it has a really powerful cpu but I don't always want to be holding a device that is warm to the point that it becomes uncomfortable.
Also I haven't even attempted rooting or changing the kernels so its all stock.

58-60C is VERY normal, when using the phone. so maybe a powerful phone isnt right for you.
But is it normal to feel warm? Even though its powerful shouldn't it stay cool? Is this happening to every Nexus 6 user? Sorry for the influx of questions

again, feel osnt an accurate way to kudge temperature. if your hand is cooler, the phone will feel more hot. your phones temp also is dependent on the air temp around you. as if its warmer outside, then the phone will get warmer. but yea, every nexus can and will get that warm. and at times, will get even warmer! try plugging in to a charger and streaming a movie. in this situation, ive seen my phone hit 74C. but thats normal as well. unlike deaktop computers, our phones dont have fans blowing to keep the cpu cool. we rely on an inactive way to keep our phones cooler, so its normal for the more powerfully phones to get warm, and even hot.
Try this.
I was having overheating issues. When gaming, charging, or just about anything other than the phone at an idle. I cleared the cache in recovery. That's it. I did not uninstall anything or modify anything in any way. And now I do not have those issues. Is that what fixed it? I do not know. Will it work for anyone else? I do not know that either. But, I'm pretty sure that if you can clear the cache with your stock recovery, it won't hurt anything. Maybe you will get lucky and it works. Bonus benefit, battery life improved for me as well. Maybe 20% better. I hope it helps you as much as it did for me.

if you are having "overheating" issues, then you are saying that your phone hits 100C constantly and reboot? if not, its not an "overheating" issue, its an issue with you and some heat.

lol! im not saying youre lying! seriously. im just saying that the behavior that you experienced is odd, considering thermal throttle being there. i actively disable thermal throttle every single time i boot up. and i try, really try, but have not been able to reach 100C on my n6. and i run my cpu at 3032mhz high and low cpu speed. now my nexus 5 reaches shutdown very easy, it takes seconds to get it there. my n6, no matter how hard i push, purposefully, i can not get it to reach 100C. now your reboot might have been something completely different, and you not reaching thermal shutdown. but i doubt you would have known that, because you would need a live cpu temp in your status bar to see if you hit thermal shutdown. and i doubt you have a cpu temp showing in your status bar. i do
If your phone is 55+C while you are not using it very intensely there's a problem.
I listen to music, watch videos, play some games like clash of clans and I never break 50 Celsius.

youre probably looking at the battery temp. battery temp is different. if your battery hits 60C, youll automatically shut down. everyone i know with a nexus 6 sees over 50C cpu temp rather often. well, depending how hard you are using the cpu, and the temp around you.

Well I can't tell you how hot it was getting. But when I played Star Wars Galactic Defender while charging it got really hot, almost too hot to hold. Although I am sure that what I felt was nothing near the boiling point of water, it was enough to make the phone restart.It got hot under the same circumstances with 5.0. Just not that hot. But after the 5.1 update it started getting much hotter. At the time I wouldn't put it on a charger at night because of the crazy heat. After the cache clearing things have been much better. It doesn't even get warm when fast charging.

Partly. Through normal operation with stock interactive governor I sit around 40-50 playing music, opening coc, etc. Phone never feels hot in hand.
When I'm idling or reading something or casually scrolling I'm always sitting 35-40 CPU temp.
Obviously if I crank it up and lock to 2.6GHz and run some CPU stresses I quickly get up to 75C :laugh: but that isn't normal operation. Relaxed operation when the CPU is idling should sit pretty low.

it probably was something else that made it reboot, being plugged in and gaming. btw, thats the second best way ive found to get the phone really hot, plugged in and gaming

using the cpu lightly or it just sitting there wont get it hot at all. listening to music is using the cpu very lightly. if it gets hot just sitting there, then that is a problem. thats usually caused by a process getting "stuck" and the cpu staying a 100% active. so the heat in that situation would be a symptom, but not the problem.
