What if Google omitted Apple? - Off-topic

I was just reading through some more of Apple's iGnorant patent claims and an idea popped up. What if Google omitted all searches and advertisements relating Apple and/or Steve Jobs. Its like the company and the iDiot (<< see what I did there?) would virtually disappear. I mean, come on, Jobs was quoted as saying he wanted to crush Google, right? And with all of these lawsuits, fair is fair right?
Apple was born from stolen intellectual property, and in his book, Jobs laughs about it. Yet Apple has the gall to sue everyone else for doing what they have been doing for years? Jobs was nothing but a spoiled, greedy, phoney, little bastard with a tendency for child like temper tantrums who was trying to make it through life "working" as little as possible. Call him a visionary because of not doing market research? HA! He was nothing but a madman! He had no real concerns about anyone but himself and making himself rich. (Page 546: the meeting with Obama, Zuckerberg nailed it saying "We should be talking about what's important to the country. Why is he just talking about what's good for him?") Yes, he tried to make it appear that he wasn't about money, but in the end, I think its pretty apparent what he wanted most. Can you imagine how expensive of a world we would live in right now if Apple had taken the lead from Microsoft in the early years?
I say its time to boycott Apple, on EVERY level!

Google would lose credibility, not a good idea in the long run for them. They can't get caught up in censoring things they don't like if they want to continue being the top search engine.

I think Google, Adobe, and everybody else who Apple depends on for products but has been backstabbed by them should conspire to hurt them and expose them for the proprietary nutjobs that they are.
Who says they would lose "credibility"?? Have tech companies really tried to take stands on much of anything evre (except SOPA)? Besides, it is their priviledge...ain't capitalism grand?

Just saying... the average consumer likes apple. If google just starts censoring anything they don't like, people will migrate away from google, and google will lose money. That would be a dumb move on many fronts.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium

Maybe not omit apple, but just put all the true negative aspects of apple at the top of the results. Yes the average person likes Apple, but only because the average person doesn't know what kind of cut throat unethical person Jobs, and the company was/is. The news goes on about the mass suicide threat at a foxcon factory that makes xbox's (that was the headline) then when you read the article, they don't know if xbox's were made there or ipads and iphones. But you don't see the icrap mentioned in the negative headlines!

Google makes a ton of money off of Apple because IOS uses Google Search. Its like a fine dance.

Oh come on! This is a private battle between Google and Apple (and to a huge extent Samsung and Motorola). How did SOPA creep in here? But to answer your question directly, no, I definitely don't support SOPA from what I understand of it.

The reason he brought in SOPA is because you are supporting google censoring their search engine. SOPA would allow the government to censor whatever they wish. Hence the connection involving censoring information.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium

Or how about running the search algorithm with ``rule 34'' appended on the end of any Apple related search (without the user knowing)?

You're all just making google into apple... Google is doing fine being fair to everything even with their competitors. If they do so like that then what difference would they be with apple? That's just google being professional. Leave the search engine alone and do it's job. Smartphone division is another topic.

I have the same question hovering in my mind always ! but yea I too think that if google started to censor eventually they will loose the moto of being a search engine !

It just seems like a long stretch going from censoring a company that is constantly biting the hand that's feeding it, to global censoring. And we're talking about Google, not the government.
As I said in a previous post, it won't be long until we're all going to be paying an Apple Tax to pay for all their lawsuits and whatever the hell else they want us to pay for. If Apple keeps going, getting more and more political people in their pockets, it WILL happen. I'm guessing that's the reason they're going with all of the foreign governments lawsuits first, I'm sure they're much easier to buy their officials than it is in the US. In my opinion, this is absolutely a worthy cause for censorship.

But what if they do it just to prove a point. Omit Apple for a week, or two weeks, and see how it affects them. If all of the bloggers, and whatever other kind of fanboys are blocked from feeding off each other, and spreading their lies, trying to persuade unknowing users, I think it would affect Apple in a big way. Its like the fanboys have a radar that's always on, where as soon as the word Apple or Steve Jobs pops up, they all come swarming in to go trash the article or thread with their comments full of crap. Both of the Android phones I've had, the Epic and the Epic 4G Touch, I constantly see the fanboys making posts that have absolutely no business in any forum at XDA. I think everyone was amazed by the boycott over SOPA, and I think we would see similar results from the simple act I stated in the OP.

I would stop using Google if they did something like that. I'd literally stop using everything Google - my homepage (iGoogle), my Android phone, their search engine, Gmail. It would all stop.
I would consider it an abuse of their position.

I think it would be violation of antitrust laws

The best way to combat apple is to call them out on their BS intentional or otherwise. Apples strength is its marketing, and it knows how to cultivate positive misinformation into generally accepted "facts". For example, many people think that Apple devices dont have malware, Apple products "just work" and apple is the poor underdog besieged by ip stealing rivals. If you don't address these and other bs statements as they pop up they continue circulating and people remain ignorant.
By blocking apple results google would loose trust with millions of people, if they can block Apple whats to stop them blocking anything else they don't like, even if its only for a short time. Rival products, political parties and anything else may as well be open game.
Instead of demanding google censor, you should be educating, not forcefully but at least providing the information so that is at least out there. That way at least the uninformed can cut theorugh the BS and have an informed and balanced opinion. I don't like Apple at the moment, but I am not against them competeing fairly in the marketplace.

I am opposed to patent lawsuits due to it being a far too lax, broad, and generally bs system in the US as it concerns technology patents. But Apple deserves every lawsuit filed against. I have had something against Apple ever since they decided to make their company a cult of personality around Steve Jobs and Apple. They want to play holier than thou in court? Then they should put up with the other side rolling up their sleeves and fighting back.
Complaining about anticompetitiveness. PAH. They just forced Samsung to stop selling Galaxy Tabs entirely in Europe through bs patent fighting. Apple deserves every single case filed against it.

Apple vs. Google

Sheesh! Google has a history that is completely obscure to the general public. Apple says Android's Rubin worked for them in the '90s. APIs are a product of Apple, according to what they are saying.

Possibly more smoke from Apple. Why bring this up now? Hopefully the judge is knowledgeable enough to sift thru what is real or not. Judge is a judge and not an engineer, so I doubt he's written code before. I myself don't know enough about APIs in question to comment this.

Nice try on stirring up the pot. WP7 is nothing, will never be anything. Look at how terrible it is doing in this market. Apple and Google will continue to claw it out in phone sales while Microsoft sits on the sidelines. None of the general public goes into a best buy or at&t looking for a WP7, nor will they walk out with one. They want a cool looking OS and phone and some variety to choose from. Not some bleak tiles invented by a first grade class.

Remember Skynet? Google's eating the world, a little bit at a time.
I think Apple will burn out and fade away, because Android's main target is us: the open-sourced, geeky, "I NEED TO MODIFY AND LIBERATE MY SMARTPHONE" community. Now, dish that out versus the aesthetically perfect society over at Apple. Yes, they have a lot of apps. So do we. I can see it on the breaking news:
"Google buys Apple's R&D mobile department"
"WhatsApp, Inc. starts negotiations with search giant Google"
"Nokia is taken aboard by Google"
When that happens, (without going off-topic and trying to prove my point), Google will dominate and Android will be everything we'll see.

We should let everyone know what shame Apple is doing

This thing that Apple is suing every freaking mobile companies/manufactures with their (stolen) patents is really a shame. Look at this very last new of ITC banning the importation and selling of certain HTC phone in US. Whoever buys any new Apple products enable the company to become stronger and stronger, unfortunately not in a good way. Apple is trying so hard and at any cost to get rid of the mobile concurrence. This means hijacking the mobile marketing, which will eventually realize the company's dream to capitalize and control the entire mobile markering worldwide. If we are all a little bit clever, we should really open a campaign and let everyone know what the company plans really are, what they are doing, and work something together to stop this shame.
Please share this, have ur say and let everyone know what is going on, what they are really buying today and what consequence their purchase might cause.

i really don't know what apple is trying to do, sueing all the world.. maybe next will be eve cause she bit an apple???
by the way, reading everything is good to know HTC, and maybe Google already have a solution for this patent infrigments, so the android user experience will always be better than iphonish one...
I see no reason for either panic or concern. First of all, look at the range of devices affected: v1.6 - v2.2 You can't even purchase new HTC device with Froyo or older OS. Second, HTC already responded that they do have a workaround in the pipeline that would diminish all claims Apple's suit made.
Take a step back and try to look at the bigger picture. Ask yourself, why is Apple suing Samsung, HTC, etc? My theory is very simple; Apple's runaway success ran out of steam and they losing ground to Android quicker then Apple engineers are able to put together a new product. Earlier today Andy Rubin bragged about 700,000 daily activations. Simply put, Apple is scared of competition. Nay, they are scared ****less. Since they can't compete by innovating they choose to fight by litigating.
If there is one thing I have agreed with Jobs on, was his musing that "market will sort everything out". It looks like market already did just that and the new is not good for Apple, hence the lawsuits.

Obviously you don't know what ur talking about (take it as a polite way to call you troll).
What Apple has been doing ever since it joined the IT market back in 1985 is to steal other ideas and projects in a legal manner, then patent them and use them against any company/manufactures.
Btw Apple calls this "REINVENTING". Just like they reinvented the phone, reinvented the way to interact between apps, DLNA, the cloud, the pull down notification bar, and the list goes on on and on..
I think I said pretty much all..
Apple business model will fail not now but in the future. What apple is trying to do is to stall it in a way. They already knew sole proprietary will fail, they almost went under at the start..
Steve jobs started a vendetta againts the android os. This is common knowledge. He got mad that someone in his company said NO left and made a product just as good.
My thing is how and why would apple try to sue something that isnt even their os. Thats like microsoft suing apple for a double click to open a file. Or adobe suing java, its childish.
Or ford suing all car manufacturers for having a break pedal.
Noting was stolen, apple has its own OS and android has theirs.
In my opinion suing for how a devices behaves. Its stupid dumb and im surprised the judges havent said that.

Patents are the most rediculus things I have ever seen...
Patents should be used for something totally unique in innovation like design and stuff and not for something that is like a building block of every other phone too...
And buying someone else's patents is bull****...it shows that the company is not innovative and steal others ideas and just keeps on bragging that they have done all the innovations....
Talking about stealing...apple has also stolen other's stuff like the drop down notification bar, siri etc etc...but google and other companies never patent everything they innovate because they know that somethings are crusial for every phone and its very anti innovative to patent those things...
I wonder what will happen when the Patent Office starts accepting patents for things other than technology...then the whole world will start suing each other...and another world war will begin...
And look what Steve Jobs said in his biography that he can even go for a bio nuclear war to stop android....which shows how greedy he is that he can destroy the whole world just for something **** like iPhone...

And Apple owns Siri. They bought the technology from the creator of an Apple app and improved it and made it more perfect. That's what Apple does.

How is it backwards? Is the NB patented? Are any of the iOS 5 features patented by anyone other than Apple?

This is the typical Apple fan mode of operation:
Apple Fan: "Apple invented all this stuff!!"
Someone: "Err, no they didn't. There was this, that and the other stuff, which Apple copied."
Apple Fan: "Yeah, well, Apple owns the patents!!"
Suddenly it's not important anymore that Apple hasn't invented anything. And they're completely oblivious how what this does is point to the brokenness of the patent system, as opposed to pointing to the supposed brilliance of Apple.

And Apple owns Siri. They bought the technology from the creator of an Apple app and improved it and made it more perfect. That's what Apple does.

But, but, but... I thought Apple is this brilliant inventor! Now you're telling me that the biggest "revolution" of IOS5 wasn't invented by Apple? How's that work?

Google appeal denied, Google to implement patch to Google Now to cut functionality

So if you cruise over to phandroid you will find this article that states that Google lost their appeal to lift the ban on the sale of the Galaxy Nexus due to Google Now infringement on Apple patents. Notably, the patent on voice search for phone applications a la Siri. The article states Google will be rolling out an update that will limit Google Now voice searches to web related content only. What a farce! Since this is a core Jellybean feature, I'm speculating that this will affect the Nexus 7 as well.
Will these patent infringement tactics from Apple ever end?

Confused, didn't Apple file this suit before Jelly Bean was even announced? How can it block google Now? Are you sure?

Oh, but it only prevents Google now from pulling from contacts and apps. So apparently, you won't be able to say Call Suzy. Or text Mary. Or play music.
Hopefully will still be able to say Open Phone
And the cards are still there (for weather sports traffic etc)
And you know Devs will bring the functionality back so no worries ( I already have the full Google now sans voice search and it is pretty neat.
lol
um
Much of the infringement spat has related to Android's use of a unified search interface, but according to Google the standout feature of Android 4.1 — Google Now — will be safe when 4.1 arrives for the general public. "This just relates to the Galaxy Nexus," the spokesperson told us, "and not a product on the Galaxy Nexus."
Well it was actually Apple and Samsung in the lawsuit and its not banned yet Apple still has to pay close 100 million dollars for damages that Samsung might face for lost sales if Apple actually loses the case. There is no ruling that the Galaxy Nexus does violate Apples Patents just that it might and Apple wants the sales stopped until a ruling has been made. The Patch is Googles oh $#!7 button just in case it does get banned, to prevent loss of sales during the no doubt long and drawn out court process to come if Apple does Dish out the money.
I feel like Apple will back down and not dish out the 100 million though, because if the push that button its only a matter of time before one of these companies pulls a patent of there own that can get the iProduct line banned too. The US software patent system is pretty messed up right now.

Apple has already paid the 95 million dollars for the bond. The injuction is officially in effect. http://www.theverge.com/2012/7/3/3136023/samsung-request-stay-galaxy-nexus-injunction-denied-Apple
If you go to the google play store, you can no longer order the Galaxy Nexus, atleast until further notice.
F me. I just ordered two nexus 7s and was planning on ordering a gnex tomorrow. Hope this doesn't affect the local search as android had that before with the vlingo powered search aka svoice for siii even....

This Patented VS Opensource Software is a real mess. The problem is the Nature of Opensource make it hard to log exact dates and who owns the rights, and the patent office is sure as hell not going to check all the opensource software before issuing a patent.
Hell Even the GNU guy thinks the Linux guy stole his stuff and didn't give him credit, or rather that programmers unknowingly integrated the two. Though He just seem more upset he didn't create working kernel first and isn't getting the credit he's due.
Anyway this brings up a question, how is Opensource software log and dated in case a company like Apple does file a penitent for something that is previously opensource, and how does one prove it pre-existed the patent?
And check out this video from 1994
F*** apple. Why can't they just use their money to create better products instead of suing everybody else? Just my two cents...

$95+ million for some hurt feelings. Society is disgusting. Apple is a money making and wasting cult. This country is broke and these guys are feuding over patents. Unbelievable.

"Us, at apple, are donating 90 million to charity, in order to save billions of lives in poverty countries.
Oh, wait. Samsung are selling more devices than us? Lets get them sued instead!"
I have faith in the people on this forum that something will be worked out to re-enable this.
And I really hope that thing involves putting '#boycottApple=True" in a configuration file somewhere.
From the context of the article it seems like it will only affect the Galaxy Nexus. I hope it doesn't get pushed to our tablets as well. I'm sure our devs could find a way around it but the thing is they shouldn't have to because Apple is throwing a hissy fit.
If Apple spent as much time actually working on competing with Android instead of attempting to kill it (which will never happen) then they might actually innovate or invent something new for once. I'm so annoyed at how broken the patent system is when it comes to software.
Anyone have any further evidence or at least what they think will happen when it comes to the Nexus 7 and this ordeal? Will we also get stripped of functionality?
Doesn't affect the Nexus 7 or Google Now. But you can no longer use the search button to search apps on your phone. Because for some reason you can patent that.
Edit- stupid spelling errors!
How STUPID. Well The late Steve Jobs said he was ready to use every dime apple had to destroy Google. I guess his legacy lives on.
Seems like dumb thing to be able to patent.

Yeah er..
I don't think this has anything to do with googre nao, but the default search.
Although you can bet that they'll try to go after that next.
Personally I expect the ban to lifted on appeal anyway. If it doesn't then this will se t a worrying precedent in the US courts and could open the floodgates to dozens of these petty cases.
From what I understand this change shouldn't effect the functionality of Google Now as the dispute is focused on the Galaxy Nexus product NOT the android system itself.
Some guy on Phandroid suggested everyone should call Apple customer support at the same time and ask why they can't order a Galaxy Nexus. I'm normally against actions like that, but the lack of an Apple twitter to vent frustration on is killing me.
I wanna see how this turns out.

[NEWS] The End of Android is Coming Nearly Close!

Hello Guys,
Very Sad News Here:

MOD Edit: Removed some of this as its more of a rant, Chill out safariking.
Oh jeez... I hope this won't come true. I don't want any of their products, but if this is true and apple wins in lawsuits to come, I might have no other choice. This is some pretty f*cked up s*it

i hope so!!!
Nothing will happen, it will either be considered a FRAND patent requiring a license fee, but no bans, or invalidated completely in court. Even IF it stood up to all that it only applies in the US. If the US wants that, fine suffer the consequences.
Fun journey ahead.
The platform which can REALLY suffer drastic consequences from this is not Android, it's Apple's iOS devices sales. People are not blind, and even on the Apple camp, people are starting to get really tired of Apple's litigations and are beginning to see Apple's true nature and purpose. Cut me the crap that they are defending their own IP, they really are hurting the whole industry with their mentality (and the lawyers are the ones who really win). Remember, bad publicity is still publicity, people are not blind and are seeing new stuff, new interfaces, improvements, cooler looks, variety of features and devices and more in the Android side. They will figure out who is who.
Touchscreen patents? Who needs Touchscreen??
Since i haven't 10 posts on xda yet, i cannot post links. So search for "Most Important New Technology" on page of technology review. Using devices without touchscreen is coming.
Oh give me break... "moving things around the screen with your finger", "electronic lists such as music in a library"... to name a few can be dismissed with evidence of prior art.
What blows my mind is how when Microsoft where faced with apples bull**** regarding using a window to group items in an operating system Microsoft won out. What gives these days? Is it only mega rich corporations that get justice.
