[Q] Don't work backup restore in CWR - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[Q] Don't work backup restore in CWR (all versions). MD5 mismatch (((

I've had that happen when trying to recover to a different kernel,
maybe that's your problem?
If so flash the kernel you were using at the time of the backup and then restore.
If I helped hit thanks.

I have a question. I tried to install clockwork mod recovery on my I9001 through ROM manager but it gives my only the choice to select I9000. Does it work on I9001 too?
Sent from one of my phones.

SGS I9000 stuck on splash screen

I have a SGS GT-I9000 rooted n a ICS ROM
but when i tried to restore my default ROM back with CWM it got stuck on boot splash screen.
I also tried flashing the same kernel again but it didnt worked.
And when i boot into recovery mode it gives me errors like
E:can't mount/cache/recovery/log
E:can't open/cache/recovery/log
E:unknown volume for path[/cache/recovery/last_log]
and so on......
any solution anybody????plss.......
Hi.
You can't restore your old gingerbread stock from ICS via nandroid.
You must flash the Stock ROM with Odin.
Befor that maybe you can flash the ICS kernel again and boot into ICS, then backup your clockworkmod folder via USB. After the Backup flash a stock ROM and cf-root or semaphore 2.5.0 via Odin.... after that load your clockworkmod folder to your internal SD-Card and boot into CWM. Now you can restore your Backup from gingerbread.
Sorry for my poor english. I hope you understand me.
// use the semaphore 0.8.1 kernel for ics. Than boot your phone and save the clockworkmod folder. When dosn't work, 1. flash the stock ROM 2. flash cf-root 3 boot in cwm go to restore and look for the backup... it must be in there

Thanx mate thanx a lot
u saved my mobile from dying.
You're welcome.
my act is:
1. do a nandroid Backup of the system befor flash a new one.
2. Save the hole Backup folder on my PC and rename it like " system_old_date "
3. Flash the new system.
4. do a nandroid backup from the new system.
5. Save the hole Backup folder on my PC and rename it like " system_new_date "
With this 5 steps I'm always on the safe side.
i do the same but this time dont kno how but it went wrong and those errors poped out

I think:
The problem is ICS and Gingerbread are differnet systems, with different Kernels and paths.
When you start the restoreprocess the systemdata will be restored but not the kernel with CWM. Both systems have different paths, and so you get this error.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's strange. Perhaps a developer knows why that is?
Reflash
Perhaps, the instruction to installing ICS states that you should have done a full wipe (data + partition) and installed the ROM/Kernal again. It would have worked...anyways you are back on GB, enjoy

[Q] sgs cwm recovery problem

hello .
i am using galaxy s i9000 , with stock ddjv9 , n speedmod kernel .
i flashed speedmod kernel n i was able to reboot into cwm recovery using 3 buttons .
then i installed rommanager from market but it was not recoznising the cwm recovery version , so i flashed cwm recovery again frm rom manager .
but when i select reboot into recovery or back up rom frm rom manager it reboots to stock 3e recovery , n doesnt perform any backup .
i can still boot into cwm recovery 2.5.1.2 using 3 buttons .
plzz help . i want to use rom manager to perform backup .
Forget from manager and you your recovery to perform a backup. It's called a nandroid back up, it saves your whole system in its current configuration.
You restore this backup if something goes wrong and you can't boot up to your home, but you can still use recovery. If you want to backup apps and stuff then use other means such as titanium backup. If you want specific backups then let me know and I will give you a list of what i use.
As far as I know rom manager does the same thing however automates it so you don't have to go to recovery and go through the selections. Another thing you may need to be aware of is if rom manager doesn't recognise your recovery, any backup you attempt to make may be corrupt and un usable. If you want to fix recovery you may need to reflash your kernal. Not just CWM. This should retain all data and settings.
Hop that helps

Thought you could get into this recovery??
Are you saying when you use the 3-button combo to get to this recovery it works, but then trying to make a backup does not work??
To fix recovery...

So what your saying is although rom manager detects it (recovery), it is useless as you cannot get into it to make a backup via rom manager
I suggest first go to manage apps and clear data for rom manager>>>open up rom manager>>>make a backup.
*CWM not detected?>>>flash via Rom manager>>>Backup...Remember because you are on stock your device is Galaxy S not Galaxy SMTD. As i believe MTD is for cyanogen based roms (I am 99% sure of this)
*If this still does not work, clear data again>>>do not open Rom manager but turn off phone>>>go to recovery (via 3-button combo)>>>Backup/restore>>>backup
If that does not work then Reflash your kernal as you did before, or any other kernal that you want that is compatible with stock roms. You will probably need Odin flashable kernals as your CWM is not working. You can try flash the kernal via rom manager, not sure what the result of this would be if CWM is not being installed properly. Instructions for installing the kernal will be from where ever you download the kernal.
So all the above should enable you to bypass Rom manager for the backup, or fix the backup/recovery which should fix the rom manager backup/compatibility whatever issues, Hopefully

What do you mean the phone runs fine?? Did it ever boot up properly, as in get you to the home screen??
Have you tried reflashing the rom via recovery as you said it works...
If you use ADB you should be able to transfer back and forth, but there is a fairly long winded process to set it all up! However after this it should be easy..
If that doesn't work restore your backup which you should always make before flashing! (Im guessing your in this situation because you didn't do that? )
So if you don't have a back-up get an odin flashable rom either from stock firmware on sammobile.com or from the general forum where Ramad has made an extensive collection. Also you could flash DarkyROM 10.2 RE Odin ROM which is a custom rom and odin flashable..
I have heard frm sumwhere that we have to apply some update.zip two time to make cwm recovery working on sgs. Is it true ?
N which update .zip?
After reflashing kernel . Should ma rommanager detect recovery automatically or i have to do sum thing?

Have not heard of this... Sometimes you do have to flash roms twice that have kernals to avoid problems which may be what you are talking about. All custom kernals use CWM as it has many extra features. If you follow the instructions of the rom/kernal you should never have any problems.

It should work, possibly its a problem with the kernal I'm not sure. But I can say that every time i have installed and used Rom manager (I dont usually use it, so i uninstall it ) I have had to re-install CWM. What happens is i get a popup telling me to install the latest CWM, I then have to pick my device, I do so and then the pop up just disappears and all downloads are available to me. So in my case it doesn't even look like it installs anything as it doesn't reboot etc.
Soooo the answer is that it will probably tell you that you need to install the latest CWM, so just follow the prompts and if it installs the latest then great. Hopefully it will work after this. If it doesn't you may have to try a more recent kernal. If that still doesn't work, then use Odin to flash a rom.
Odin flashable custom rom that usually never fails for anyone This rom is usually recommended to people with problems. After this you should have CWM and be able to use Rom manager like it should be used

Why are you so attached to rom manager?? You think its safe? Probably agree but you may have to dump it for the first flash and then get back to it once you can get it working.. If changing kernals doesn't work then it may be your stock rom, and to change will either have to be odin or a zip via recovery...
Hopefully all goes well, Good Luck
REALISATION...
This is all because you cannot get a backup... If the above does not work then forget the backup and just flash the rom via rom manager. Because even if you have the backup you wont be able to use it as you don't have a CWM recovery right??
The apps i use for backup
App list backup
Sms backup and restore
titanium backup

[Q] Brick and can't restore

Hello everyone!
I just installed CM9 by the clockworkMod method (after doing a backup of my former official ROM) and it worked great exept I forgot to save my contacts...
So I did another backup of the CM9 and tried to restore the previous ROM, so I would be able to save my contacts and restore the CM9 again.
BUT the restore didn't go well and my phone crashed...
Now I can access both download mod and Clockwork recovery mod, I can see my 2 backups in clockwork recovery mod but when I try, I have the following message:
"data.img not found. Skipping ...
datadata.img not found. Skipping...
[ and it's going on for a few lines...]
Restore complete!"
but it's way too fast (couple seconds) and when I try to reboot I'm stuck on samsung logo.
I tried some solution to unbrick I9000 but nothing worked and I'm kind of desperate after some hours trying to fix it^^
I have clockwork recoverymod v 2.5.1.2 if that's any help.
What can I do to repair my phone?
CM9 use CWM 6.x if I'm not mistaken. If your backup was created with CWM 5.x or other version, please try flash the same CWM version first before you restore your backup.
If still fail, mount the storage via CWM and copy clockworkmod folder from your phone into your computer, you can check what file is missing/etc.
Hey
Or ur can downgrade and root (like 2.3.6 link given below)
then restore from recovery and save ur contacts...
Thanks for your answers. I finally get to re-flash CM9 and back up my contacts by another way.

[Q] how to create backup stock rom Galaxy S6500 Without CWM

Hello
I have a S6500 and I would like to install a custom rom I've seen here, but I would like to do before a backup of my stock rom that is flashable by odin without installing cwm as my stock ROM is S6500BVLE3 Orange Spain and for reasons of I like to have my warranty stock rom.
Anyone know if I could create a full backup without installing cwm, for exemple adb commands, etc..?
Thanks.
root ur phone
install titanium backup app
backup all the data of everything
you can make a full nandroid backup with stock recovery.

No you can
If that would, no one will install CWM.
it is very difficult to create a odin flashable fw
there's a guide for it in xda
There is disk image of stock ROM flashable via odin but of course data will no be restorable and must be backed up via titanium backup.
Sent from s6500d with custom ROM and kernel.
Well ... if you want to install a custom ROM , you would have to install CWM anyway , so yea ... xD
I can guarantee that there's nothing that could happen to your device as long as you flash the right things , though . You can find all you need in my signature below (first download Odin , then the CWM 5.0.2.8 .tar , then flash the CWM tar as PDA with Odin while your phone is in Download mode) .
So the short answer is no , you can't do anything without CWM (no backing up , no rooting , no custom roms) .

[Q] Recovery doesn't "stick"?!

Hello guys,
I would like to flash a different version of CWM onto my N7000 but somehow it does not stick.
I currently run AOKP 4.1.2 and it has 6.0.1.5 as CWM which always gives you the md5 generation error when you do a nandroid backup.
I've installed Rom Manager and downloaded a different version of CWM and tried to install it both with Rom manager and also in CWM itself.
On the first boot after I flash some other recovery like the one from rom Manager (6.0.1.2) it actually loads the new recovery and lets me do a sucessful nandroid for example, but when i reboot into recovery another time the old recovery is back.
When I flash a new rom though, the CWM does get permanently replaced. I flashed a different rom which came with CWM 6.0.2.8 and then I permanently had that version. (same behaviour when I tried to overwrite it with the 6.0.1.2, wouldnt stick).
I even tried just partially restoring the nandroid and leaving boot out, but then phone will get stuck on boot.
Is there any way to permanently flash a recovery to the note without overwriting the whole boot.img? CWM and Rom Manager do not seem to be able. Maybe Heimdall or ODIN? Been so long since I had to use them..
Hope someone knows whats goin on with the recoveries.?!
because the recovery is in the kernel. to change recovery, you need to change the kernel. MD5 error is a known bug in AOKP.
you can use this

thanks man, yea i got some tools installed that should be able to do a nandroid from running system, was just wondering if there is a way to permanently switch the recovery - it is sometimes booted, right after flash but then its gone - so there must be a way to stop the restore or?
Or are there any custom aokp kernels out there for the n7000? usually they only support TW or CM as far as I saw, or only older versions.
