What will happen if I full wipe my phone?
2nd
Instructions to full wipe my phone.
3rd
Instructions in installing RocketRom w/o external sdcard.
-------------------------
I already root my phone. XLA4 CF-Root Kernel.
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for my english.
Im not used to speak this way.
Apologies!
1. you will lose your use application(you have installed manually), you will lose settings(account, contacts, msgs, desktop setting etc), in sort you will have note as it came at time of purchase(accept your ROM will remain LA4 is it is). but you won't lose Root/CWM.
2.go to setting - privacy - reset phone
3.Mobile Odin Pro can b used without Ext SD card.

Do i need to dowgrade again my version to install the custom rom?
No, you already have Root + CWM
just install Mobile Odin Pro from Market, as you dont have Ext SD card.

Im not used to install custom rom because the files are separated not like the
XLA4 i got. .MD5.
Ya mobile odin can read zip file
In full wiping the phone. Do i need to check the FORMAT USB STORAGE?
THANKS A LOT!
It will erase all data on internal memory, as such it is not needed.

Ya before this, when you have updated to LA4, you may have keep option to push Mobile Odin pro, in everroot option, thats Y it pushed as sytem file. and system files dont get erase in reset phone.
I think if your custom ROM has flashable zip, then only CWM will work, there is no need to have ext Card to flash a zip file. select flash update in CWM select your file n it shud b work

hello,
I explain what happened.. after a little bad luck I briked my phone, but I have the update.zip to restore the previous state, the problem I have is that update.zip is in my pc.
how can I transfer the update.zip file to my phone if it's bricked?
I tried to go into CWM recovery, and then connect via ADB, but my pc it doesn't detect the phone (I've installed samsung usb drivers from this forum). also I tried the option "mount USB storage" in CWM but my pc doesn't do anything, and I have the sdcard mounted.
what can I do? thanks in advance!
best regards!
Jord
try to put the file on external sd and see if you can flash it thru recovery.
otherwise boot into download mode and flash that son of a ***** !!!
thanks a lot for your answer
the problem is that I have a trip pictures in internal SD card, that's why I'm avoiding to flash again through Download mode. (I have all other data in a backup except the pictures!)
now I've copied the update.zip to the external sd, I've mounted the external sd, but when I chose external_sd folder to apply the update.zip it says that "no files found" all possible methods aren't working
it was worth a shot but i didnt think it would work.
i think to flash from the external sd requires a steam kernel.
anyway, try do do a factory reset and see it that helps. along with formatting cache / dalvik cache
this will not delete items on your internal sd card

Odin doesn't touch the Internal SD, so why should that be an issue?
thanks both for your answers.
the problem is that I have voodoo lagfix enabled, and I can`t disabled it because it says that there is not enough free space on sd card (because of the pictures I want to save), so I think that with voodoo lagfix enabled I can't restore the firmware via odin, unfortunately. I wish I'm wrong
thanks a lot again
Just flash 2.1 with 3 files + re partition checked
u shd be sweet to use it

my odin shows that they are two devices connected when I connect my phone (because of voodoo lagfix enabled) so.. are you saying that even if in that state, I reflash my stock firmware with repartition enabled, my sdcard data will be fine after reflashing? I ask that because unfortunately I'm not sure
thanks a lot
Having tried several different custom roms and flashed to and from stock rom, whats the best way to completely clean my system. I read somewhere that flashing a Stock Rom using PC Odin and Flashing the PIT file aswell will clean/format your system.
Is this correct or is there another/better way ?
Cheers
It's correct. Using .pit file and repartition function wipes the entire storage and rebuilds it's partition table - but you have to remember that repartitioning your device is considered to be potentially dangerous.
I'd recommend using data/cache/dalvik wipe ( if you're on GB, if on stock ICS do not wipe data ), then connecting via USB and deleting everything ( even secure and hidden folders ) from your mounted USB storage.

Thanks for the advice, i'm on ICS ... So you are suggestioning deleting everything on the internal sd card ?

Yes, mount your phone via USB Storage and delete everything. After that boot into recovery ( Volume Up + Home + Power ) and clear cache/dalvik. This will delete pictures, music, data stored by apps and apps installed on USB Storage. It will also clear temp files, OTA update files, thumbnail etc.
You can also check if you have the dangerous emmc chip by using this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693704
If your device is not affected, you might try wiping data/factory reset but it's still somewhat of a risk. If it's affected and you're on stock ICS you have two options depending on what you want to do:
1. Flash GB or safe kernel and do a factory reset ( if you want to sell your phone etc )
2. Simply clear history, delete sms/mms or use market apps like "History Erase" which can do this for you.

Thanks for the guidance, i have already run the test and i'm clean. I always use abyss kernel.
Cheers
Re-partitioning from PC Odin with a pit file is absolutely safe....it does not involve the kernel bug and will wipe your system clean....in fact I always re-partition with pit when moving to complete stock.....Wiping data from your note with the affected kernels is potentially dangerous....but safe kernels with the MMC_CAP_ERASE removed....like franco kernel from r3, speedmod, dafuq etc...are the safest way to wipe and flash new firmwares...and Finally...yeah pit re-partitioning is safe.....
Thanks for all the answers to OP question. I need to ask something as well.
Is it safe to FORMAT /system from CWM? (Of course after I flash a safe kernel+CWM like abyss or thor's or one of the others)

try a solution from My Android Solutions
But First powerdown, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT.SD card, press power
button for a minute, than powerup without SIM and Ext.SD Card....
Tips before Flashing:-
Backup all your important files, contacts, SMS, game data, images etc to PC or
Ext SD card. or make Nanadroid Backup If you have CWM
Backup your EFS Folder to PC or Ext SD card
Enable USB Debugging on Phone. Touch menu>Settings>Applications>Development>
Charge your battery to more than 50% before you attempt any sort of flashing.
Disable Samsung KIES when using Odin. Kill Kies.exe, KiesTrayAgent.exe, &
KiesPDLR.exe using Task Manager on PC
Use only ROM and solution for your model and Wipe x3

Try repeated flashing at least 3 times, first with 512 Pit ( partition) , second with 803 Pit ( dont partition) and third without Pit, use JVU ROM

ok, odin will normally get stuck for two reasons, 1) Kies interference, which mean Kies is running in the background or 2) the firmware is corrupt .
But I had lately experienced another, that is the PC, of a sudden I cannot flash on my PC as Odin gets stuck in the middle ( it was good all the time but one morning, it acted up, drove me nuts, till I switched to my laptop and it was good to go ) tried it again on my PC, gets stuck half way.. I still cannot find out the cause of this.
so do try with another Lap top or PC

i have tried to flash pit and kernels with diferent laptops but still it stuck at setup connection.
First and foremost, I think things would be easier if you use a recover system such as TWRP or CWM.
Because AFAIK, if you use the Samsung Recover system, there is no option of formatting your system.
Formatting your system will delete your current ROM,meaning your phone will not reboot until you have flashed a new ROM.
Can someone clarify that the Samsung Recovery System does not have option to format system? I could be giving the wrong info

ok, setup connection is mostly due to an external problem, have you try a different version of Odin and ROM package?
Hello I am newbie here.I know there is a thread for how to instal CWM recovery & how to flash custom roms, but I find that method very confusing . I have upgraded my phone to Gingerbead 2.3.6 using ODIN player (Build number:- DDKQ8). I have already rooted my phone using that zip file method. Now I want to install CWM recovery v5.0.2.6. Here are my questions.
1. Do I need to install CWM recovery v 4.0.0.9 first & then need to update it to 5.0.2.6 ? If so, how to do that?
2. After installing CWM, I want to backup my current OS,which is an official GB 2.3.6 update provided by Samsung for my country. How to backup it?
3.I still use 2GB sd card,so how much space is needed in my sd as well as internal memory while installing custom rom?
4.After installing new rom will my data stored in sd card (app backup files, music files, pictures etc.) get erased?
5.Please suggest me a good custom rom which has:- great battery backup, good interface, exciting features, fast response etc.)
Thanks in advance!
WellCome..
1) No, you can directly install 5.0.2.6..
2) In recovery You will get options for backup and restore..this will take the backup of your current rom and you can restore at any time through it..
3) No need to make any free space..if you are not using any ext partition..
4) Not At all..it wont touch your sd card data..
5) It depends on You,Which Rom you like..read their thread for more info of the rom..

Sorry for asking u again, I am going to flash Apocalypse final 9.7.2012 ROMhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700749 , but I have few questions. The installation procedure is as follows:-
Installation Procedure - Step 1 (rom)
1. boot into CWM5 Recovery
2. wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik
3. format cache/data/system/sd-ext
4. MOUNT DATA
5. flash APOCALYPSE-17.06.12
5. reboot and complete the setup wizard
What is mount data? I can't see that option in CWM 5 or is it suppossed to be mount/data ?
also it's a barebone ROM, so from where i can find essential apps like sms, mms, camera? also does bareback ROM contain google apps like gmail, gmaps, navigation etc. ?
Thanks in advance!

You could try and use adb sideload, however for me sideloading ROM zips never works so what you would need to do is format the internal storage from a PC then transfer a ROM.zip over to it then proceed with the rest of the wipes except internal storage as you've already wiped that

Seems like its been disabled for MTP devices, that's new to me - looks like you'll have to go with the other way of doing it, flash the ROM with a full wipe of system and data beforehand then just wipe internal storage from recovery after the ROM has flashed.
Everything worked perfect , thanks alot !
