What apps would you take if you traveled to the 1400's - Off-topic

So you go back in time to 1400, hopefully you are not burned as a heretic. You have a solar charger for power, no WIFI. What apps would you take?
I can think of the 8gb wiki + aard. Google star map. Navdroyd with topo maps. Some calculators like Handy Calc and Addi.
What else? Assuming your willing to disrupt the time line.

That would be useless. No one else has phones let alone usb ports.
Hmm, Im in Australia so a Australian bush survival guide and a local aboriginal language dictionary/translator. Also some chemistry, geology, boat building and mechanics books would not go amiss. Hell Ill just say offline wikipedia too.

Oh my:
first i'd pack many, many sd cards to fill with data like music, the offline wikis, maps, any history apps I could find, sports almanac and survival guides.
If there's an app for home cures for common diseases, I'd take it.
I would also have an sd card for a variety of technologies, like the steam engine, the coal engine, the internal combustion engine, electrical schematics and so forth copied to my phone in the form of png and jpeg files that I could use to recreate them in the past. If I'm going that far back, then so is 1800s-1900s technology. That'd help everyone in the future because technology would end up hundreds of years in the future.
voice to text translator app, if there is one, or at least a translator app period.
To screw with the old time people, I would grab an assortment of flashy light and sound apps, like a lightsaber app and hide it in my sleeve so when my arm moved, it made the epic "voooom vooooom" noise so people would think i were some powerful wizard. The flashing lights apps i'd use in the dark to make people believe I could conjure up lights at my command, furthering the "powerful warlock" deal. Then use my new influence to get slaves to build the technology I'd be very much missing at that point.
Probably a huge assortment of other things I'd have to wrack my brain to figure out. I'd spend days planning before leaving so, off the top of my head, that's what i'd take.

Fatbooth

Music production

Hey any music producing people in here?
just have some questions let he know if its ok to ask. Thanks!

There's quite a few. Ask away.
Ok first question its this package good?
http://m.guitarcenter.com/Item/Default.aspx?itemno=1394721&urx=1
I play instruments but never produced music. So if you were starting would this be good to start with? Thanks I need some guidance
The reviews seem okay, but not overwhelming. If you already play then I'd suggest just getting hold of some software and a decent sound card to do some home recording. That way you can at least see if you want to take it further before shelling out on something expensive.
I reckon you can spec a decent setup for cheaper than that. Even after buying that package you need multitrack software which isn't cheap.
Personally I'd recommend protools but that's just me. If you haven't used one before then none of them are that user friendly to begin with.
Sonar or Cubase may be easier to start off with.
Think about what you really need to start with and not what the package suggests you need.

Yes sorry.

Pc specs are fine.
If you have that package en route then all you really need is some kind of multitrack software as I mentioned.
I'd be very surprised if your audio interface doesn't come with either a demo of something or a very basic stripped down recording suite.
If you plan on recording more than one thing at once then you may want to throw a mixer into the equation...
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face......
^^^ This.
As Conan said earlier, Cubase is a good one. Acid is also good. It's loop-based but you don't have to use it that way and it's simple to pick up - probably more-so than most.
Incidentally, your PC specs make mine look ancient, and I've had around 30 sample channels running on Acid without any stutter, so you've got nothing to worry about there.
I used to run pro tools and reason on an eight year old Toshiba Lappy with a ****ty celeron CPU and 700 Megs of ram....

i'm-you can call me-a room music producer
i record my own music just using common things:
- a Laptop
- Reason software : for drum & bass
- Guitar + Amp
- Guitar effect (zoom)
- GuitarPro (for uhhh.. patterning my music )
- headphone + common mic
so far so good
Like I said before, I find Sony Acid very good for recording and mixing, and it's probably the easiest studio style app I've ever used. For drums I'll always suggest Fruity Loops, and it's very versatile too, being able to add VST plugins so being anything you need it to be, not just a drum machine.
Thanks guys anything else you suggest I should know. Any Miami people??

Kodak's future. What are your thoughts?

Well I've been following Kodak for some time now and was just wondering your thoughts. I'm an amateur investor still learning and I've been buying stock to start off. I've only purchased in one company but I'm still researching.
Kodak put it's patents for sale in July of 2011 and no buyer's have come to the table. Who do you guys think will go for these? I was pointing towards Apple but who knows what those patents are and if they are even relevant to today's tech. Is there a way to look up a companies patents?
I would like to see Google or Apple buy these patents to use in their current devices/OS. Kodak's shares are at $.47 and are in danger of becoming delisted on the stock exchange.
It would suck to have an iconic company fall but it just goes to show you aren't to big to fail. They failed to adapt or innovate with the times. Remember when they sold their OLED business to LG because they thought there wasn't going to be a market for it. It came back to bite them in the arse now that we see this technology in a lot of devices.
Would you guys buy stock in Kodak? If so, why?
I hope they can bounce back. I hope we can get some intelligent conversation and keep this topic peaceful.
Thanks for reading guys.

Oh and this: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Kodak-prepares-Chapter-11-reuters-1905853637.html?x=0
Hope they will survive, just bought kodaks digital frame with wifi, and its stupid properties is that you can configure auto on/off only from their webpage.
My father started his working life working at a Kodak Factory, earning his engineering wings along the way and moving onto bigger and better things including doing CAD on Military Hardware which paid his wages, which paid for the Alimony he paid my Mum, which barely covered the cost of clothing me for school let alone food, heating and other costs.
Adapt or perish. Darwinism in action. Record labels and Movie studios next...
..please!
Kodak is doomed. They failed to adjust and adapt.
One of the other guys here just spent over $1000 of company money on a desktop scanner from Kodak. When we got it, It's a freaking rebadged Visoneer, with even worse software. The kicker is, you have to "register" the software that comes with it to get a product code to use it, and Kodak won't reply.
They are history...blew it big time years ago!

Very Chris Cornellish mate...I like it
just a suggestion..the drummer over does it in my opinion. he is making it sound more like death metal gone ballad than just participating and letting the bass take over.
Other than that...sound pretty good!
That's very funny because I'm the drummer. Also one of the primary songwriters.
This experience in the studio has been a huge learning experience for me. We also don't have a bassist. So what has happened with this CD is I've gone in and laid down the scratch track on guitar then the drum track on every song, without certainty on what they would do with the actual guitar parts once everything else was set in stone. If you listen to newer songs, like Opportunities, you can hear how much I've learned about laying back. The recording engineer at the studio has been recording our bass lines. The entire CD will be available for purchase in the next month I think, and it'll have ten songs. I'm sorry that Soundcloud isn't working for you because I don't believe Opportunities is on our Facebook. Masterbeast is the best example of my overplaying. Thanks for your criticism.

On your drumming...as I said...lay down the foot pedal a bit and if you are doing it..keep it up

How do you manage your pockets?

If you're anything like me, you probably always have to carry around at least the following things: A wallet, a smartphone, your keys and maybe some headphones.
And all of these take away there share of space, the keys are sharp, the wallet is either uncomfy or in your backpocket where it can be stolen easily, the headphones keep getting entangled, no matter how carefully you wrap them around your phone or whatever you do with them, and I have to work with these annoying items most of the day. Should there be a maximum age for driving?

Maybe require them to take an annual driver-certification test of some kind after a certain age?
See http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lan...hits-9-children-while-backing-up-his-car.html
Yes, definitely. Here (in norway) people that are 70+ years old must have a "medical certificate" from their doctor, and they have to see their doctor once a year. If their doctor says that they're not fit to drive then that'll be it. Doesn't eliminate the dangers, but it's a start.
Look up driving and accident statistics anywhere in the state of Florida and you'll have a definitive answer. There is something truly frightening about seeing a 90 year old person behind the wheel of a Suburban or Excursion. Especially when they are so hunched over from arthritis that their only line of sight is looking under the steering wheel and over the dash. We called them Q-Tip drivers, since the only thing you could see was a puff of white hair. If you've seen Ferris Bueller you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

I think drivers should have to retake the entire driving test every time or two they renew their license. That way it doesn't discriminate any group of people, and will eliminate everyone who doesn't know how to drive, not just the older people.
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
How about a mandatory retake of drivers ed courses for people who get in more than two accidents in five years?
It sounds good in principle, but I have literally seen DMV employees guiding elderly people through the vision test. I think people here regard driving as a right, not as a privilege and responsibility.

+1. Then, there are the cases of old people driving their cars through buildings (they mistake the accelerator for the brake, in a parking lot, when they start their car). I guess when people get old, everything looks the same.

Yes I live in Florida as well. I lost my driver side mirror because some old ass guy decided he didn't like the lane he was in. To bad I was right next to him and he just starts moving over. Luckily I quick enough to act and he only took out my mirror. I see waaay to many old fools that should not be driving.

This is what I thought of when I saw this thread.
I dont think there should be no questions asked cut off age, not everybody ages equally. But for sure tests should be administered after a certain age, if you cant pass the test you shouldn't drive..
I think having to get a doctor's release to drive after a certain age makes the most sense. It's not about age, really, but the mental and physical competency that degrades with age.
Maybe not a max age but they def need to get better at screening with age. I mean, WTF, they are so mean there to everyone at the DMV so why are they being " nice" and letting our old folks get renewed when they shouldn't lol
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4G using Tapatalk
Definitely should be or least re-test after a certain age
Every summer, Southern California sees a temporary influx of old retirees from Arizona. They drive at very slow speeds on the fast lane of our freeways. We just love them for that :^)

Oh god yes. Please. Senior drives are as dangerous as, if not more so than, junior drivers.
Going 50 and overtaking!!! on the bloody Autobahn, are you f*cking kidding me... Or just randomly slamming on the breaks in the middle of a corner. Or crossing the intersection without even so much as noticing all the oncoming traffic!
67. (pension-age) After that, every 5 years a re-exam. If you fail, get used to taking a cab.
I think so...
Seen this discussion on a lot of car forums.
I'm a bit neutral as far as opinion.
Some drivers are inherently incapable all thru their driving years then some are careful responsible till the end.
Now that I'm closing in on 60 I'm way more intolerant of others.
In the past I was a very angry aggressive driver...I never got anywhere faster than anybody else.
Haven't really slowed down, I just do my best to be safe and sane with constant self checks when driving.
