A free tattoo is usually a bad idea. A tattoo is permanent and paying for quality work is a necessity. I have quite a few and I'm happy with all of my work. Once it heals, you may be able to have someone fix it.
What happened is they went too deep and/or overworked the area. Good luck with that one.

What's next in cellphones? Opinion thread

It's late here, so sorry if this has been asked or talked about before. The phone I had for a length of time before this was a Nexus One. I switched to the G2X and hated it with a passion.
Our phones can darned near do anything I can possibly imagine today... especially when you consider that color screens were "hot" just a few years back.
I'm not a gamer by any means. I played Cut the Rope and Angry Birds, but have beaten em both with perfect scores... so gaming graphics aren't really "my" niche. However, what would you like to see a phone capable of next?
I just remember when I had my G1 and the Android platform has advanced so quickly, that I am at a loss of what I would like to see next. The only thing I could say would be a game-changer, would be some type of "real-time" translator. How amazing would that be?
So, my contribution is a translator that could do so in real-time (or at least close). What's yours?

Another random idea....
My 97 year old grandfather was blown away that I could order a book on my phone (through Amazon) and have it arrive the next day. He started talking about how he would love many of the things I do on it, such as checking the weather and news.
While we're all somewhat "techy" on here... it'd be neat to see something idiot proof. That is, something that isn't for the tech savvy like himself, to be able to use it. Voice search has come a long way, but still takes a fair amount of skill.

The trouble with translation of human speech is the literally unlimited variables. Not only the hundreds of languages, but the dialects, the accents, the mis-pronounciations and the combinations of all the above.
The technology will get there, it's just nowhere near just yet. (IBM are flouting their latest super computer is as clever as a cat, but it has 147,000+ CPUs! Not to mention the fact my cat isn't a gleaming example of intelligence).
As for what to expect in handsets, quite frankly, battery tech needs a good boot up the backside into reality, plus the efficiency tech to match.
'toy tech'-wise, I'd like things like an accurate body monitor, that'd be ideal for handicapped or the elderly (or the fitness savvy for that matter) which could automatically alert in case of problems.
Otherwise, there isn't much I can think of that this thing doesn't do (other than make the obligatory cup of coffee). Tech is getting to a place where gadgets can seriously be considered as possible devices to advance the human race rather than just assist it's user.

Technically, our phones CAN make a cup of coffee now! Google arduino twitter coffee pot (or something similar). You can use twitter to send a command to a microcontroller that is hooked up to a coffee pot to make coffee when you tell it too from wherever you are.

My sister is stuck in a wheelchair, so I have to cook, clean, and take my nephew to and from school everyday. My nephew who is seven years old is autistic, so he's going for only part of a school day. I have to go get him at odd hours, and since I'm doing housework/cooking later in the day, I can't get a full time job. I have to deal with his moods and outbursts everyday. Taking care of him, his 11 year old sister (she's moody thanks to hormones) and his mother means I have no time for even part time work, so I'm constantly broke as a result. Since she is family and needs my help I can't move out and not have a guilty conscience. My sister's fiancee is a vile and mentally abusive person, and I get stuck dealing with him all the time. He doesn't even help with housework or the kids. We're struggling financially so our home internet and cable was unpaid and cut off, and we're still getting charged for it until the owing amount is paid. The only reason I own a nice phone is cause I saved money for months and signed a contract. My computer was built from free, salvaged parts, otherwise I wouldn't have one of those either. I have serious insomnia and never get proper rest. I also have back pain, anxiety and a whole mess of health problems despite only being 20 years old. I was forced to move into a different city cause of my sister, and now I can no longer see any of my friends. My situation at home prevents me from being able to have a girlfriend as well.
All of this is true, no exaggerations. FML

Instead of selecting "Basketball" group in Gmail, I selected "All." The email was sent to about 800 people, including my professors, ex-professors, TAs, friends I haven't talked to in years, etc. - -. Most embarrassing moment of my life, so awkward.

So you go back in time to 1400, hopefully you are not burned as a heretic. You have a solar charger for power, no WIFI. What apps would you take?
I can think of the 8gb wiki + aard. Google star map. Navdroyd with topo maps. Some calculators like Handy Calc and Addi.
What else? Assuming your willing to disrupt the time line.

Oh my:
first i'd pack many, many sd cards to fill with data like music, the offline wikis, maps, any history apps I could find, sports almanac and survival guides.
If there's an app for home cures for common diseases, I'd take it.
I would also have an sd card for a variety of technologies, like the steam engine, the coal engine, the internal combustion engine, electrical schematics and so forth copied to my phone in the form of png and jpeg files that I could use to recreate them in the past. If I'm going that far back, then so is 1800s-1900s technology. That'd help everyone in the future because technology would end up hundreds of years in the future.
voice to text translator app, if there is one, or at least a translator app period.
To screw with the old time people, I would grab an assortment of flashy light and sound apps, like a lightsaber app and hide it in my sleeve so when my arm moved, it made the epic "voooom vooooom" noise so people would think i were some powerful wizard. The flashing lights apps i'd use in the dark to make people believe I could conjure up lights at my command, furthering the "powerful warlock" deal. Then use my new influence to get slaves to build the technology I'd be very much missing at that point.
Probably a huge assortment of other things I'd have to wrack my brain to figure out. I'd spend days planning before leaving so, off the top of my head, that's what i'd take.

Given the fact that I work at a computer repair shop, if a customer were to email me something along the lines of what you wanted, I would laugh. I wouldn't be surprised if the tech support people didn't care about what you had to write. they just had to write back to you because it's their job. I do not have any screenshots like that because I have better things to do than chatting with tech support about stupid **** like this. However, if I notice that te tech is "not so smart" while talking to them, I overwhelm them with technical details, until they are forced to connect me to the next level of tech support, where the people on the other side of the phone seem to be a bit smarter. I feel like you didn't troll the techs since you said what you wanted, they told you that they don't support that and explained that it voids your warranty, and then you thanked them. To them, you were seen as an asshole, and not as a troll. Thank you, good night, did I bump the drunk thread yet?

The guy thinks he's Ayrton Senna whilst clearly being as skilled in driving a vehicle as Muffin The Mule! The three apologetic emails that i received back from the company brought a great deal of satisfaction to my week though.
I hope his need for racing his POS van was worth more to him than having a job!
