[Q] Mobile Network Not Avaliable - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Ive bought a galaxy S, unlocked with no sim. I placed my P.A.Y.G sim into the device and it says when trying to make a call ''mobile network not available'' Ive checked the IMEI number and its the same as the code inside the phone. And ive tried 4 different sims that all work on different phones and no luck?
mobile network type - UMTS
service state - out of service
mobile network state - disconnected
model number GT-I9000
firmware version - 2.3.5
baseband version - I9000XXJVT
kernal version - [email protected]#2
build number - GINGERBREAD.XXJVT
Whats the problem? Can anyone help me please?
Thanks,
John.

This is a long shot, because you may have a hardware problem with the phone - given that it has never worked (to your knowledge).
First of all, you should always power the phone on and off between changing the sim (not sure if you have to remove the battery to get the sim out).
What happens if you pull the sim out and boot the phone up, does it complain about there being no sim? In other words is it behaving differently when there is a sim card in there versu without. If it is, then at least it knows there is a sim in there. If it doesn't then you probably do have a hardware issue.
Have you gone into the mobile network settings and done a scan for carrier networks, does it find any? Select the right one that matches your SIM. See if you are now getting a signal.
Then have a look in access point names (also in mobile settings), press menu and select "reset to default". If it downloads a new list, then that is a good sign. You might have to experiment to get one that gives you data access.
Hopefully that should give you some pointers.

I have the same problem
Hello i have the same problem it doesnt show me that the sim is not inserted but when i insert it in it was my sim password i put it in the it accepts it but i cannot call i tried to connect it to the network the sim is from but it says cannot register but the company i bought the phone off work... Could someone help?

Galaxy-s not working 3g or gprs

Hello,
in Uk a brought a Galaxy-S (T-mobile) and unlocked it. Now I'm back in Italy and I put my old SIM card. The Phone works, except for 3g, edge or any mobile connectivity. I think there is two options:
- The phone is still locked.
- My sim is very old (from 1999), may be no more compatible with 3g.
How do I find out which is the case and how I solve that?
Thanks guys (girls too).
No network
Hi m8
Could you please check your imei number, I did exactly the same.
I bought my sgs on firmware 2.1 & unlocked it via free unlock tool, I then messed with some new firmwares. Recently tried to sell my phone as unlocked but when buyer put their sim in, It shows a signal but no data network connection.
After messing around with different sims i did a check & noticed my firmware is some stupid 04999????
Regards
Mark
What does that mean?? Is it related to IMEI somehow?? What should I check about it? How do I fix that? I've 2.2 by the way

[Q] What network am I on????

Hi. I've just received a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000. When I tried my O2 sim card in it it didn't work. How can I find out if my phone is locked to a particular network?
*#7465625# that will tell you if there is a network lock. if there is try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045
Who did you buy the phone from and is it network branded is another clue .
jje
Tried that azzledazzle. It says
Network Lock - ON
Network Subset Lock - OFF
SP Lock - OFF
CP Lock - OFF
I've had a look through the settings etc and can't see any mention of a UK network.
JJegan - Got the phone from a (not very bright) workmate but he didn't know what network it was on as he said he never used it. No branding on phone that I can see.
Go to menu, settings, scroll down to about phone, scroll to bottom an give us the basenband version and build number. Then scroll to top and click status. See if it says in there the network name. (it may say no network if you have no sim installed)
Hi Tehpriest. I don't have a sim in the phone as I don't know which network it should be on.
firmware version 2.1-update1
Baseband version is - I9000ADJM1
Kernel Version - 2.6.29
Build number - eclair.adjm1
Just searched for I9000ADJM1 and am I right in saying it is locked to O2.
The O2 simcard I have already tried was an old one (possibly not even 3G)
If I send for a new O2 simcard, is it just a case of fitting it and phone will work?
I9000ADJM1 = O2 network.
What happened when you put your O2 sim in?

[Q] Network problems with I9000 bought in Singapore, using in Canada

Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (16gb) in Singapore and was using it fine on Singtel's network (signed a contract with them). Now I have moved back to Canada and brought my phone with me assuming that all would be ok to use it with the network here. However I'm having big problems with this one network I just signed up with (Virgin Mobile).
85% of the time I cannot connect to it: voice calls and SMSing won't work nor will the data work on it, the only thing it says is "Emergency calls only". Then at other times everything will seem to connect and work fine - I can make calls and use data.
Virgin Mobile will not support me much because they're thinking it's the phone's problem, if I use the phone they gave me (a lower-end model) it works fine.
Here are some details of my phone:
Firmware version
2 2
Baseband version
I9000DXJPA
Kernel version
2 6 32 9
root (at) SE-S604 #1
Build number
FROYO DXJPA
If I check out the status, it usually says this:
Network
Unknown (switches to VIRGIN when it does work)
Mobile network type
UMTS (switches between that and HSDPA and GPRS)
Service state
Out of service
Mobile network state
Disconnected (switches to connected when working, and even when it's not working sometimes)
I have Network mode set to auto mode (GSM/WCDMA). I've tried to switch it to GSM only but that didn't seem to change anything.
I'm wondering if there's some kind of configuration settings I still need to do with the phone? I'm also wondering if it is the network I'm with right now? Virgin Mobile isn't one of the bigger telcom companies here and I'm thinking that if I switch to one of the bigger telcoms, will it work better?
Something else to add - before I signed up with Virgin I was using my phone with a pre-paid service (called Chatr) for voice only and it was working fine.
I'm sure this phone can support the GSM frequencies here.. can't it?
I also still have the Singtel customizations on the phone. Will it help if I remove it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
Ryan
You can always try flashing a different MODEM (Radio) .. And you might as well upgrade to a 2.2.1 firmware, if not GB.
hmm.. do you know where I can learn how to flash my phone to a different (and more appropriate!) modem? also where to find an update to the firmware?

Just search in these forums. It's all there. You can easily flash a new radio package using ODIN. Better yet, try one of the custom ROMs from the I9000 Android Development section.

No T-Mobile network

I took my girlfriends S1 on holiday with my 3 network sim in it, when we came home I put her T-mobile sim back in, now it will not connect to the T-Mob network, it will connect to 3G? Putting the sim in my SNote and all is well. I have since install a custom rom to see if that would help but still no good.
Galaxt S1 running CyanogenMod 10 nightlies.

Believe me I have taken the sim out and tried it in the "wrong way" lots of times. I have also looked at your solutions page before, very helpfull. But why will the sim work on one network but not on another, and the non working sim will work in another phone????

Check the modem on both phones.
If the phone that doesn't recognize T-mobile has a different modem, then load the modem that the phone that works has through oden or CWR.
Hope you know how to check the modem and load new ones.
Good luck

This will happen as T.Mobile may be using a different Radio band ..most likely you changed the APN and Network settings when you used it with another SIM Card , whilst abroad ...all you may had to do was check your Network Settings in menu> settings>wireless and Networks> Mobile Networks and reset it back for the T.Mobile network, initially
To understand this better read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
at the same time since you upgraded by flashing to JB, you may have to select a new modem that is suitable for JB, you will find all modems at My Android Collections
Data but no calls
Me back again, I have tried all xx modems, reverted back to stock rom, then GB, them back to CM10. When I first turn on phone it finds network (i'm on a giffgaff sim now) it says GiffGaff at the bottom of the screen for about 2 seconds, then it says emergengy calls only. I can still connect to internet. APN settings correct, IMEI correct, In Settings - About Phone - Status, i'm connected to network, service status = out of service, mobile network state = connected, my phone number = unkown. Where can I go from here?
More
Another thing I have just noticed, when I take the sim OUTwhen the phone is still ON, the "no network" on the screen turns to giffgaff,

Try to set your phone number by following this guide , it was written for a Korean version, so just adjust it for your phone version.

Thanks for that, I have now got the number under Status, but still says out of service.

No signal/voice/data - Restricted access changed. Voice service is blocked

Just as the title says, the phone was working fine then suddenly it lost all signal and went into some kind of restricted mode, it's a friend's phone and he is almost 84 years old.
I have flashed the latest firmware and factory reset to no avail, also changed sim cards and here comes the weird behavior:
I don't have a standard-sized sim card so I had to take it from my USB LTE Modem, it's from another carrier and the phone detected the sim card, went with a full -77db HSDPA signal but data doesn't work at all, it seems to be disabled on status, even configuring the proper APNs it refuses to work. Can't test voice and all my other working sim cards are nano.
Inserting any other sim from another carrier results in no signal/restricted access but the phone still downloads the Internet/MMS configuration.
Have tried setting it manually to WCDMA and GSM, nothing seems to work, only my data sim worked so far *without the data*.
Maybe the IMEI is banned for some reason?
Never heard of this issue until now
Have you tried to flash a firmware that aren't from any carrier?

Yes I did, flashed the USA unbranded kitkat rom.
Just got the chance to test with two sim cards from different carriers:
Carrier #1: Registered on network, no data traffic, voice call drops just after trying to call, signal ok
Carrier #2: Registered on network, data traffic seems ok but can't navigate, shows H+ and proper APN and traffic arrows activity but when you try a call it says "Mobile Network Not Available"
Can't send SMS, they stick with a "Sending" status and wont get past it.
This phone was purchased unlocked without a contract, can't see how the IMEI could be banned, plus we do not have regularization for IMEI ban in my country, it's currently a mess.
On a side note it does not detect the sim's phone number which it does on any other phone.
Maybe it's some hardware related issue?

My phone can't detect my Sim's phone number either (though i don't know If it is only for me)
Have you tried to flash a ROM? (from XDA)

The sim number information depends on the sim itself, most carriers register this information within the simcard so when you go to status you may retrieve your own phone number but I have seen sim cards without this info. The sim cards I tested do have this information and were available on a Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z1 but this E1 fails to read this information which kinda indicates a problem. I don't remember the codes for debugging the sim and network info or I'd give that a shoot.
I will try a custom rom, maybe a different kernel and see if the behavior changes any bit.
I am bidding on a Z1 Compact for this friend, should be a proper replacement and a hell of an upgrade, just concerned about E1's loudness which is certainly superior.
Interesting, I also get this if I don't reboot my phone after like 5 days.
