Hi. I've just received a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000. When I tried my O2 sim card in it it didn't work. How can I find out if my phone is locked to a particular network?
*#7465625# that will tell you if there is a network lock. if there is try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045
Who did you buy the phone from and is it network branded is another clue .
jje
Tried that azzledazzle. It says
Network Lock - ON
Network Subset Lock - OFF
SP Lock - OFF
CP Lock - OFF
I've had a look through the settings etc and can't see any mention of a UK network.
JJegan - Got the phone from a (not very bright) workmate but he didn't know what network it was on as he said he never used it. No branding on phone that I can see.
Go to menu, settings, scroll down to about phone, scroll to bottom an give us the basenband version and build number. Then scroll to top and click status. See if it says in there the network name. (it may say no network if you have no sim installed)
Hi Tehpriest. I don't have a sim in the phone as I don't know which network it should be on.
firmware version 2.1-update1
Baseband version is - I9000ADJM1
Kernel Version - 2.6.29
Build number - eclair.adjm1
Just searched for I9000ADJM1 and am I right in saying it is locked to O2.
The O2 simcard I have already tried was an old one (possibly not even 3G)
If I send for a new O2 simcard, is it just a case of fitting it and phone will work?
I9000ADJM1 = O2 network.
What happened when you put your O2 sim in?

hi had a search around but unable to find anyone who has had the same issue
unlocked sgs from UK t mobile to use vodafone sim.
all was ok till i changed the setting to stop 3g to improve battery life, sgs went to no phone signal (blue circle with line through it on top bar). put 3g useage back on but still no signal
had a look at my phone/status:
network = vodafone uk
service state = out of service
mobile network state = disconnected
if i set network automatically it says 'registered on network'
if i select vodafone from list i get 'your sim card does not allow connection to this network'
i have hard reset the phone, locked it and unlocked again, but still the same
also tried with o2 sim and get the same problem
== t-mobile sim still works==
is there a solution out there?
Try to manually create another APN
EDIT: my bad...you meant no phone signal. I have no clue but hope that you'll get the help that you need.
what needs to be entered in the fields?
i've had this happen on two phones..........one was due to me messing up the nv_data files. the other was fixed by reflashing.
take your pick
i haven't had the phone flashed
i only used ADB to get the Network Control Key which i then use to unlock the phone
can you suggest the next step for me
i assume the professional unlockers use a flashing method, should i get it unlocked by one of them?
its possible the imei has been blocked
if blocked tmobile customer service said that i should hear 3 beeps when i try to make a call, but i get a message that 'not registered on the network'
could it still be blocked even though i do not get the 3 beeps?
if it is not blocked is there anyway i can get this working on a vodafone sim?
Hello,
in Uk a brought a Galaxy-S (T-mobile) and unlocked it. Now I'm back in Italy and I put my old SIM card. The Phone works, except for 3g, edge or any mobile connectivity. I think there is two options:
- The phone is still locked.
- My sim is very old (from 1999), may be no more compatible with 3g.
How do I find out which is the case and how I solve that?
Thanks guys (girls too).
No network
Hi m8
Could you please check your imei number, I did exactly the same.
I bought my sgs on firmware 2.1 & unlocked it via free unlock tool, I then messed with some new firmwares. Recently tried to sell my phone as unlocked but when buyer put their sim in, It shows a signal but no data network connection.
After messing around with different sims i did a check & noticed my firmware is some stupid 04999????
Regards
Mark
What does that mean?? Is it related to IMEI somehow?? What should I check about it? How do I fix that? I've 2.2 by the way
Hi, Ive bought a galaxy S, unlocked with no sim. I placed my P.A.Y.G sim into the device and it says when trying to make a call ''mobile network not available'' Ive checked the IMEI number and its the same as the code inside the phone. And ive tried 4 different sims that all work on different phones and no luck?
mobile network type - UMTS
service state - out of service
mobile network state - disconnected
model number GT-I9000
firmware version - 2.3.5
baseband version - I9000XXJVT
kernal version - [email protected]#2
build number - GINGERBREAD.XXJVT
Whats the problem? Can anyone help me please?
Thanks,
John.
This is a long shot, because you may have a hardware problem with the phone - given that it has never worked (to your knowledge).
First of all, you should always power the phone on and off between changing the sim (not sure if you have to remove the battery to get the sim out).
What happens if you pull the sim out and boot the phone up, does it complain about there being no sim? In other words is it behaving differently when there is a sim card in there versu without. If it is, then at least it knows there is a sim in there. If it doesn't then you probably do have a hardware issue.
Have you gone into the mobile network settings and done a scan for carrier networks, does it find any? Select the right one that matches your SIM. See if you are now getting a signal.
Then have a look in access point names (also in mobile settings), press menu and select "reset to default". If it downloads a new list, then that is a good sign. You might have to experiment to get one that gives you data access.
Hopefully that should give you some pointers.
I have the same problem
Hello i have the same problem it doesnt show me that the sim is not inserted but when i insert it in it was my sim password i put it in the it accepts it but i cannot call i tried to connect it to the network the sim is from but it says cannot register but the company i bought the phone off work... Could someone help?

you must check your apn settings of your carrier and your problem will be solved.
I took my girlfriends S1 on holiday with my 3 network sim in it, when we came home I put her T-mobile sim back in, now it will not connect to the T-Mob network, it will connect to 3G? Putting the sim in my SNote and all is well. I have since install a custom rom to see if that would help but still no good.
Galaxt S1 running CyanogenMod 10 nightlies.

Believe me I have taken the sim out and tried it in the "wrong way" lots of times. I have also looked at your solutions page before, very helpfull. But why will the sim work on one network but not on another, and the non working sim will work in another phone????

Check the modem on both phones.
If the phone that doesn't recognize T-mobile has a different modem, then load the modem that the phone that works has through oden or CWR.
Hope you know how to check the modem and load new ones.
Good luck

This will happen as T.Mobile may be using a different Radio band ..most likely you changed the APN and Network settings when you used it with another SIM Card , whilst abroad ...all you may had to do was check your Network Settings in menu> settings>wireless and Networks> Mobile Networks and reset it back for the T.Mobile network, initially
To understand this better read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
at the same time since you upgraded by flashing to JB, you may have to select a new modem that is suitable for JB, you will find all modems at My Android Collections
Data but no calls
Me back again, I have tried all xx modems, reverted back to stock rom, then GB, them back to CM10. When I first turn on phone it finds network (i'm on a giffgaff sim now) it says GiffGaff at the bottom of the screen for about 2 seconds, then it says emergengy calls only. I can still connect to internet. APN settings correct, IMEI correct, In Settings - About Phone - Status, i'm connected to network, service status = out of service, mobile network state = connected, my phone number = unkown. Where can I go from here?
More
Another thing I have just noticed, when I take the sim OUTwhen the phone is still ON, the "no network" on the screen turns to giffgaff,

Try to set your phone number by following this guide , it was written for a Korean version, so just adjust it for your phone version.

Thanks for that, I have now got the number under Status, but still says out of service.
USA -> Malaysia -> South Africa - it worked a little in Malaysia, no service in SA
Hi everyone, I have a bit of a weird situation and I'm hoping someone with experience can point me in the right direction.
I bought a Note 8 (second hand) in Malaysia. It's a US snapdragon version:
When the phone boots it shows the XFINITY logo.
SM-N950U, Baseband Version: N950USQS5CRG9
Service provider SW ver. :
SAOMC_SM-N950_OYN_CCT_OO_0024

CCT/XAA/CCT
Android Security Patch Level:
August 1, 2018
The phone worked in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but not very well. I was using a Malaysian uMobile simcard. There were a few places where I could make calls.. but in most areas only the LTE worked.
I usually couldn't make or receive calls or get SMS or even use MMI codes (like *123# to check balance). I could browse the internet though.
I then traveled to Malacca (a smaller city in Malaysia) and I couldn't get the phone to work at all anywhere - not even LTE.
I'm now back home in South Africa and again, the phone doesn't work here at all. I've tried sims from all the providers here. Is there a firmware I can flash that would help? I've been reading this thread, and it's a little confusing to know which versions to flash and in what order. Before I attempt something, I just wanted to run this by you guys and make sure it's not in vain, and that this phone can be made to work in South Africa?
Only the cellular functions of the phone are not working. Wifi works fine. I also noticed some people mention that they have an airplaine mode icon, I do not. I have have a circle with a line through it, and a message "No Network Connection"
All I want is to be able to make phone calls and use internet - I don't need wifi-calling or anything carrier specific. The South African networks are Vodacom, CellC and MTN - I've previously bought phones from the USA that work here before.
I don't think my phone is carrier locked because it did work a little in Malaysia depending on where I was.
When I use a sim from a carrier here called MTN:
I fiddle with the Network Mode, switching between LTE/3G/2G and 3G/2G in Settings->Connections->Mobile Networks - I get a few bars of connection, but when I try to do anything it says "Not Registered on Network"
When I use a sim from a carrier here called Vodacom:
If I go to network operators and search networks - it shows all the south african networks - I select Vodacom (for this sim) - I get zero bars in the connection strength. In the notification pull down, it says "No Service - Selected network (Vodacom-SA) not available.
Thanks!
Update
I've attempted to flash an N950U1 firmware ( N950U1UEU5CRJ2 ) .. but still no cellular connectivity.
So far I've:
1. Did a factory reset.
2. Used Odin 3B(PatcheD) with the latest N950U1 XAA firmware from updato and used BL, AP, CP and CSC_OYM, and NOT HOME_CSC)
3. Odin Passed, and the phone rebooted and erased itself again.
4. When it booted it said "Your device will restart to configure features supported by the new sim card"
5. It rebooted, with a screen with a blue image of a sim card and 3 dots.. which stayed that way for a while, then again rebooted.
6. After rebooting again, I'm now in and everything works except the cellular stuff .. still No Service. The signal icon on top shows the empty triangle (no bars).
