Had the rocket for a long time and has been great until the last few updates. i dont remember the one version that is the most stable and battery consumption but now with v20, the drain has been just dissapointing. since dev has been stopped, can anyone recommend a diff rom with better stability and battery?

I haven't had any issues with Rocket ROM (I am running V20), I am using Abyss Kernel 3.5b and using SetCPU to create profiles.
I have had it without charge for 12 hours now and from 100% it is at 82% right now. So far today I have watch an ep of anime (22mins long), gaming for 1.5 hours, had 4 phone calls (total of 42 mins). I think only draining 18% after all of that is impressive.
I was looking for the same solution and before found I bought n 3 oem batteries and an external TurboCharger 7000mAh...
Since I flashed ROMOW v5.1 I almost leave batteries home! I set brightness level to minimum (even with sun the screen looks amazing) and flashed AbyssNote 3.2
With SmartAss V2 gov I reach the dinner with a Good 20/30% of battery.
Only if I make an insane use of my Note I need to change 1 battery in a day, otherwise I thank ROMOW for this great ROM ;-)
Hope it would be usefull

I have had battery problems with Rocket ROM too from about V14. The main help I got from the Rocket forum was being yelled that its not a ROM problem. Grrr. But lucky for me I got a bit more help from nobnut who suggested disabling "Fast Dormancy". That stops the phone from madly logging on and off the cell tower under some circumstances which will hammer the radio chip, heating it up and eating battery. Does that sound like something maybe relevant?
Cassies XtraLite ROM is the specialist in low power. I don't know if it actually fixes the problem or just does everything so low power so that it hides the problem. But either way my phone ran less hot and lasted longer. Hard to argue with results!

Currently I don't have any issues with Rocket v20. But if there ever was an issue, I just back things up, flash a different rom and put it back on. I am not the type of guy who flash the rom just because of a new version. As long as it works and I can do everything I want to do, I am not planning on upgrading the rom.

The Darky ROM has been very stable for me. You can find the page for it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890429
It is still being updated on a semi regular basis. The battery life is better than normal too.
I really think battery life has to do with the kernal. I might be wrong but I think you should look for specific kernals and use them.
And I think most roms are stable. you can try cognition. Assonance. Darky
I personally like darky the best so try it out!

Yep, the kernel has the largest part to do with battery life, but it's not the only thing.
If you're into tweaking, I recommend glitterballs' kernel, steam or regular. Undervolt and disable overclocking and you'll get utterly ridiculous battery life. 69% battery life currently with over 21 hours of uptime and moderate usage.
As for a rom, I'd recommend Serendipity, or if you don't mind the Samsung glass lockscreen Cognition 3.0x seems like it has a lot of promise (though I haven't tried it myself as I hate that lockscreen).
I have flashed many roms, and ive noticed the biggest diff. in battery life is definitely with the kernel, i am running docs rom 7.5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882397 that i cooked in the kitchen. with Hardcores speed mod kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880 and androidena theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770507. I have went thru many updates with hardcore's kernel, he updates quite often and docs rom is updated quited often also, and seems to be one of the better rom's and the dev. he is always there to answer any questions. Now to the point i have went to full cycles with my battery fully charged and ran to dead, i have sceen shots of both cycles. First batt cycle i went 1day 6hrs from last plugged in. 2 hours of screen on. 20 min of voice calls. the next cycle i went 1 day 5 hrs with 13% left, with roughly the same screen on time. I have never found anything better than this, so i'm staying with this combination, and update the kernels reg. and question pm me if you'd like.

I use jaybobs aosp or cm7 with .29 kernel so I can use my headset. I use setcpu and clock 576/691 at full power then drop it if battery gets too low or raise it when I'm charging. The only way you'd extend battery life drastic is to live with a good signal and actively manage your data connections and sync.

I guess what you said about the battery life make sense cause i live in a area with pretty bad sprint service. guess i can fix that by turning off data while i plan to not use my phone thanks for your respond. Anybody else have any suggestions?

Could you send me a link to this v8 tweak? Ive never heard of it but im willing to try anything i usually get about 12 hours battery life.
I don't think the v8 helps the battery, i think it's just for performance. u should try it without it first.

Well im running OMFGB August 12 nightly its one of the fastest and smoothest 2.3 rom ive ever used i havent used the aosp verion though so i dont know how smooth that one is. And i have email syncing and facebook and i use google voice a lot i mostly do texting and i keep my homescreens without any widgets that need to update a lot. i also calibrated my battery so i could get pretty decent battery life which in my opinion is 12 Hours but im still looking on ways to improve it.
ohh, i see. Yeah i know where ya comin from, I've done a lot of flashing and just decided to go with the most stable. They were all somewhat smooth but as for battery life, I've gotten the best battery with jaybobs rom.

For Battery life I would recommend extended 1900mAh batteries.
I didn't have to buy custom cover since they fit in the stock back cover.
2 batteries with external charger with shipping would cost you about $20.
I get about 2 days on a single charge with moderate use.
I am using CM7.1 nightly 160 at the moment.
If you are interested let me know I will point you towards the retailer
I bought them from on Amazon/Ebay.
Well im going to try jaybobs rom then and see how that does yesterday with OMFGB rom i got 11h 59m 2s and after that it shortly died off and im just running setcpu at 729 max 691 min performance lol i think i really need to change that if i want save battery does any one have any good setcpu profiles they would recommend? And i might look towards buying a extended battery but i dont really want to seeing as my upgrade is in december.

Well that is what killing your batteries right there
I am no expert but I will tell you what I use,
I only use 1 profile besides the main one on setCpu:
Screen On/Main: 691 max 176 min (On Demand)
Screen Off: Max 264 min 19 On Demand ( Since I dont use it for music or anything else screen off with min 19 is no issue for me)
By the I also use v6 Super Charger and V8 kernel tweaks and they do make
your phone very snappy and responsive!!
Best of luck
I recently flashed gingerbread hero deck and it's pretty nice. But, something weird I notice is that my 3g download speeds have dropped off considerably (from 1200kbps range to 600). I can't explain it. I was on aosp's 5-23 rom before. I also recently started using firerats mod. Not sure what's up.

Its the build prop that causes it. I'd use the V8 3g tweaks to see if it helps.
okay ive installed OMFGB 1.3.1 nightly 8/17 and with the V6 scirpt runs well along with the v8 and the 3g one which i cant recall the name of but everything now runs really good but im still calibrating the battery so i still have to see how that goes but so far its been good. Thanks for the tips everyone now to try out this jaybobs kernel hopefully everything will still work well.

is there any custom gingerbread rom with bloatware removed and big free ram? and a kernel with OC/UV? plus great game compability?
how about MIUI?
Have yet to find one to best DjangoMouche 1.2.1 its GB 2.3.4 its customized, with different themes to choose from and a good bunch of performance tweaks. everything has been running smooth.
games run well, things load fast
I'm using Gueste overclock v1.8.1 kernel but thats up to choice. i found it works great between 900 - 1300mhz. but above that its rebooted on me a few times.
You could try Temasek's CM7 Rom with it's own kernel, it has OC/UV and all that things.. Run's pretty smooth and stable but i can recommend you to use GO Launcher EX with an ICS Theme :good:

Currently on DJ 1.5RC1 and have to say it is truly magical. The feel of performance, smoothness and speed is just incredible.Always try to experiment with other GB roms and always drawn back to DJ ROM.DJ roms provide many choices according to our needs and customization as we like with transformation packs. So have to say this is the best choice i will ever have:cyclops:
Same here, Django Manouche, currently 1.5 RC1, but I am using latest spica kernel ;-)
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
Hi, this is my first post here. I have been flashing various roms and a few basebands and rils in my quest to get better battery life from my LG Optimus 2x. In the end. Most of what I have done is experimental and I can not say I understand much about versions and combinations. Last night, I read quite a few posts about the Django Manouche rom and downloaded all the three versions of the 1.6, the stock, the Spica and the Gueste.
Flashing led to boot looping on the Spica rom, powering off on the Gueste rom while on the stock 1.6s it ran OK, with some applications not running until I rebooted.
I came from a stock LG rom and was wondering if I need to change the baseband and kernel also, for these to work.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.
I think these "best rom" threads are forbidden but I'll give my 2 cents anyway, in case I'm wrong:
for me the best rom is Gueste Hybrid revolutions 3.7, is a hybrid between stock Rom and cm7.2, and symbiosis kernel 1.3.
I get great performance, great battery life, great ram management. I can't really complain, I'm so satisfied that I'm not that eager to get ICS (at least not as much as I was before).
LG optimus 2x, rom Gueste Hybrid 3.7
@daas88. Taking your advice, I have flashed the same combination as you, just this morning. I have been very active on the phone since then, so I can't tell right away, if there is any improvement in battery life.
By the way, I continue to be on the 20i baseband.
I shall report back soon.
Temasek
Probably the cleanest install would be Temasek. A very stable CM7 build. It's sort of finished, and offers a great experience. Use it with Temasek's, Spica's or symbi0sis kernel.
I've tried DM and it's great, but this just feels cleaner.
gl!
I have been reading about the Temasek rom. What is your view on its battery consumption? That is something I am focussing on. The stock LG set up lasts for about 9-11 hours on my phone, with full 3G, about 4 hours of wifi usage and about 1-2 hour of music (Neutron music player). I have a battery pack that I carry with me to work, but it is a big bother.
So, basically, to me battery life is top priority. If I can extend it to 12-15 hours, I am home and dry.
I've used Temasek for a long period of time, and though I don't want to go back to gingerbread (currently on Paranoid Android) I do miss the battery life. With Temasek (or stock CM7) I would get about 32 hours of battery life: a day and a night. This with some browsing, playing music checking e-mail.
Overclocking would lose you some of that time, but the toggle2g app would win it back. :good:

Increased CPU performance, larger screen and stagnated battery technology will do this
As for battery life, I do miss my Nokia 3210!
A small update. I charged my phone to 100% yesterday evening at 7 PM. From then on till now, what I observe is that with the phone in standby mode, the battery consumption curve remains almost flat. But the moment I start using some apps, for instance the Number links game for 15-20 minutes, the battery level drops by 10%.
This is with the Gueste Hybrid ROM and the Symbiosis kernel.
Further update: The battery went to 14% and then I charged it. 15 hours. Some improvement. It may be too early to comment, but this set up seems to work superbly when the phone is on standby. When the phone is in use, the consumption seems to be high. Could it be improved by changing the BB or the ril?

My suggestion would be stock gingerbread with speedmod kernel k2-12, i used to get around 4 days with normal use.
That sounds nice. Do you have heavy use of yout phone? Or only deep sleep all the time?

I use it for playing games, little music, calls and messaging. Sometimes connect to Wi-fi. With the same in ICS i get around 2 days.
okay thank you i´ll try. :fingers-crossed:
to set expectations straight, expect thought about 4.5 hours nonstop usage on gb with speedmod kernel.
4 hours on ics with speedmod
alk stock dont expect more then 3 to 3.5 hours.
you only get 2 days if you dont synch, barely use phone and are in good reception area with data switched off always.
Note general tips which can be found in the 10000plus threads about battery drain and how to analyse deepsleep issues

I don't know whether you like gingerbread roms or not , but till date the rom with which I got maximum battery backup with modeate to heavy usage was CheckRom Revo HD V6. This rom never lags , best battery life , and good speed .
If you are Gingerbread hater and ICS lover , then you can try Rocketrom v7( very good battery life with the included kernel , and would be much better with Speedmod Kernel (latest version) ). And then you have CleaNote V2.30 ( V3.0 has bluetooth glitches but its faster , if you are bluetooth user i would suggest you to stick with V2.30 ) , I personally love CleaNote because it has stock look and very fluidic :good: and as the tagline says 'You dont want any theme forced down to your throat '. KingDroid are good at speed but many have reported few glitches with it , you may try it if you like ( I dont like KingDroid , its sth personal ). If you hate Samsung's bloatware then we have Cassie's XtraLite rom for your rescue :cyclops:. Its a good rom too .
Well finally to end , I use cyanogenmod 9 and i update it everyday and with each update it gets more fluid and responsive, fast , smooth . i just love cyanogenmod9 ( waiting for cm10 ).
ParanoidAndroid are for ppl who love fun , who want to showoff their phone , the ability of their phone , the sweet hybrid interface of their phone , its for geeks :-0 .
Make a choice or try all of them :good::good:

I am using CLASSIC V1+15 toggle with MOD V1 which is ICS 4.0.4, and I also updated kernel to chainfire LRG, which is more stable and smooth, battery life is excellent comparatively to all other ROMs so far.
Which is around 4% drain per hour, I have (facebook, wechat, LINE, mitalk, whatsapp, email, exchange service, maps, mixed chinese input, make your own clock) running and leaving it on idle.

For the past 2 years of beeing a S galaxy user, I've quite looked for best battery life at top performance. Most of the time, battery life is no longer measured in "days" of usage , like we used to do with our Nokia phones. Nowadays, you ten to look at display (screen on) time , CPU profiles, and also connectivity patterns.
You can think of battery life as a factor of the above mentioned, however I think that display time is the most important parameter related to battery life. CPU profiles, connectivity, tend to work only when you have your screen on, and from my experience, you tend not to extend your usage time by more than 10-20%.
So as a conclusion, I did not expect a specific rom / kernel configuration to offer more "screen on" time but to offer a more faster way to do my tasks therefore I did more tasks in almost the same display time.
At the end of the day, it is more important how you USE your device rather than finding a "magical" combination that will increase your battery life.
KID + SpeedMod
+1 for GB (i was using checkrom but i'm sure any gb rom will give similar effects) with Speedmod.
If you make setcpu to 200mhz on screen off, i find it uses almost no power at all when it's on standby.
Like it was on 77% when i went to bed.
Woke up in the morning and it was on 78% (i was like lolwut).
Yay for setcpu.
But seriously though, any GB rom will give you considerably more battery life than any ics rom.

I tried a nightly cyanogen mod ( cm-7-20120701-NIGHTLY-p970 ) , and battery last a much more time, but this rom is not stable enough.
Everybody is awaiting here for ICS rom from LG and hoping that battery draining would be reduced.

Interesting, on a stock 2.2 my Black needed daily charging and just for the night alone drained about 20% of a battery. Since I'm on Zeus, my phone can last 3-4 days (same usage as on stock) and uses about 3-4% of battery in the night :good:.

I also wonder how do people get so good battery with Zeus v6.37 and such a low battery drain during the night, have you touched at something in ZeusTweaker since you installed it?
And another question: I didn't touch anything but I see that many people talk about DVFS, what is it actually and what is more recommend: to enable or disable it?

Well i have Zeus v6.27 and even didn´t feel the urge to update it as battery lasts for like 3 days, never had a SoD, hes fast, so only have to say good things about it.
Stock V20s with diana kernel.... its best.
Im using the Cici ROM Mokee Port based on CM7 and my battery will last one day only, I like it because of the beautiful interface but the battery sucks. I also tried Optimus Max Rom V2, battery lasts a bit longer but still not good. I havent tried Zeus yet but maybe il try using it and see how the battery goes.
ive always gotten the best battery life from zeus.... and also lemmings is coming in 2nd for me
Marvel rom is the best rom for high battery because the battery usage is almost none when the phone is ideal
My phone battery gets reduced only by 2-3% overnight.

Which ROM (including the official ones) is the best regarding the duration of the battery?
And another thing on this matter, I have read about battery calibration many times in this forum, but I noticed that was a not an unique answer. Does it really work or it doesn't affect at all the performance of the battery?
thank you

I've tried alot of ROM's, and I think MIUI is the best for low battery consumption.

Supressed ROM V7, is the best for battery life.
so the conclusion is which rom are the best ?
From all the posts the conslusion is only one: all of them lol.
The best rom for battery life is the one that's switched off..... I can get two weeks off a single charge.....
just sayin...
fact 2.2 is very good if you mean battery drain, but 2.3 is better as system and in my opinion better choice is Optimus Max , cause he based on stock rom. I use it daily long time. I used many roms and I still prefere Optimus max . My battery keep live about two days in normal using ( many time in net ) - but sometimes it is one day . But on this rom I have not any suprises.
