Ok I am having some serious dialer lag. I am talking up to a minute to actually dialer a number that I have put in or chosen a contact before it actually dials. I am running the 2.1 update and don't know if this was an issue before this update as I just got the phone wihin the last month and downloaded the update right away.
I do use Advanced Task Killer and have killed everything before attempting to make a call but it is still just a laggy. I have also gone in and killed processes that are running like Sprint TV. Still have major lag issues.
Is there a way to fix this? I am getting so frustrated and am about to return the phone to Sprint!
For as cool as the Sense UI is, I don't think it was quite ready for the Hero.
Plus there are bugs that have been talked about quite a bit in the official 2.1 update for the Hero.
Hero + Sense = Dialer lag. Even after rooting and running a (mostly) much cleaner flavor of version 2.1, any rom I installed still had lag in the dialer app.
I finally scrapped Sense altogether and went with a vanilla aosp rom (darchdroid) and the whole device, including the dialer, runs smooth as butter. No lag at all.
Thank you!! I did try and run Drachroid 2.8 but it just kept looping on me so I do have another rom installed at the moment and will wait for a fix for 2.8. Any other Vanilla roms you would recommend?

It's possible that the bootloops happened to you because of the overclocked (OC) kernel in DarchDroid. Some phones cannot boot at overclocked speeds and will just bootloop while trying to load up.
The latest DD 2.8 already comes with an undervolted (UV) kernel, which some phones can boot better than the regular OC kernel, so it may just be that your phone doesn't like OC at all. Lots of phones here are like that.
Try flashing and booting DD2.8 on a FULL battery. You'll have a much better chance booting an OC kernel on a full battery, and while it's plugged into the charger still.
Another good Vanilla ROM I really liked was Ic3Rom, but it is no longer kept up so it's not as current as DD or the 2.2 Cyanogen Froyo ROM.
Good luck!
Try turning off the dialer sound in settings. That fixed the lag for me.
If you try the latest froyo nightly, it should boot, it's capped at 691- which is still overclocked but seems like everyone can boot.

I've been complaining to Sprint about the lag since before 2.1. Last night a Sprint tech said to come here for an "unofficial" way to get my phone running smooth, including rooting it to make it do things that aren't "supported." So after searching around here I see posts about Nandroid, rooting, backing up, restoring, and flashing roms. I've rooting iPod Touches but never a phone. I want to try this while I have hours to kill at work. Forgive the shortcutting but can you:
1. Point me to an updated step by step guide.
2. Point me to an updated recovery image.
3. Point me to an updated ROM that you PRAISE.
4. Pray for me.
Thanks,
Ken

Welcome to XDA! Just as an FYI, many of us here don't take too kindly to this. We have had to put in our time searching and reading -- it's only fair that you should too.
That being said, this thread will tell you how to root and will include a recovery image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
That's all you get from me Now it's up to you to browse around and find a ROM that you like best. No one here can tell you which one the "best" one is....it's all about personal preferences and tastes. Browse the Development forum and try several ROMs. Also check the Themes and Apps forum for cool extras. You'll soon find what you like.
Good luck, and make sure you do PLENTY of reading here before doing anything to your phone.

Thank you. I'm well on my way. Rooting as I type. I'll check out the Dev threads.
I am running a non OC version of aloyuisus and i am loving it nothing ever lags i don't run task killers. I get great battery life, last me all day with moderate use, if i tether i always make sure its plugged in otherwise its never plugged in until late night. I listen to Audible and mp3s and probably make about 1 - 1.5 hrs worth of calls a day.
no random reboots either,

I had this same problem. Even after rooting and installing fresh 2.3.3 it wasn't much better. I was almost to the point of taking the phone back to sprint when i found Cyanogenmod 6. I started with test 4 which was still pretty buggy but the current nightly that is out is awesome. FroYo is the best thing that has ever happened to my phone. No Lag, EVER.

That one statement can't be said enough.
Read, attempt to comprehend, read some more and then do the work.
There are some apps and / or scripts nowadays that will give you "1-click root", but I frown on these to be honest. There's too much "magic stuff" going on behind the scenes that you're not aware of and if an issue pops up, it's harder to backtrack to figure out what went wrong.
1-click root apps are fine, later on down the road when you're comfortable with the process and just want to get it done, but manually running through the steps to root, backup and finally flash a new rom is the best way to go.
Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out if I want to just return my captivate and go back to my iphone, or if there's a way to deal with this thing.
My issues are basically:
Browser perfomance is ****, to say the least. Panning and zooming on most sites is painfully bad - XDA worst than pretty much any other site out there. When I try to type in the browser, I'll hit 10 keys, and 3 will show up...a few seconds later another 2 will be entered...etc. Zooming is bad, I don't know why. Panning just looks jerky/non-fluid.
Bluetooth: I have an Acura with the tech package, so having bluetooth work is kinda a requirement. However, every time I try to do anything bluetooth related, the phone slows to a crawl. If I hit the home softkey, it takes 1-2 minutes for the phone to go home. I eventually have to pull the battery to reset.
Data: Sometimes, it just drops totally. I'm sitting still with 4-5 bars, and suddely the marketplace won't load...or XDA won't load...try a second or third time and suddenly it loads fine. Unsure if this is just the marketplace (and XDA forums) being unreliable, or if the phone's data connection is just THAT bad.
GPS: I did the fixes in the "hidden" settings (supl settings and whatnot) and I now get fixes much faster, but they're always off. I seem to always be on AGPS, and not ever getting sattelite fixes...that, or the settelite fixes are just really as bad as AGPS is.
Perf in general: not so hot. Some things work well, some things will crawl at times.
Facebook: no push notifications? What?
I'm on the latest SRE, and I can flash back to the stock kernel if that'll help...
But in general, my opinion after slightly over a week is that this just feels like when I still played with Linux a few years ago - a toy. Nothing for general consumption, nothing for someone who just wants it to work - and feel free to tell me I'm wrong, I'm still not totally decided and have another 3 weeks to return this...but I'm hard pressed to find a reason to keep using this instead of going back to my iphone. A wireless AP is amazing, but that's the only thing I keep coming back to...and who knows, a jailbroken iPhone might be capable of that?
Thanks for all the thelp!
RA
Are you using JF6 (the stock baseband that came with the phone)? because that one is miserably slow.
switch to JH3 and then flash SRE... it'll feel like an entirely different phone.
I felt the same way until I flashed several firmwares and applied different mods/lag fixes. You have to find what's right for you. It seems that Samsung may have skimped on the software side but they didn't hold back with hardware. With the new voodoo lag fix that's coming out soon, froyo, an official GPS fix, and promising android development for the Captivate, I'd say we're starting to realizing the true potential of this phone. I've never used bluetooth nor do I have any problems with data. You may have a bad phone... Perhaps you should exchange it for another and see if that remedies some problems? The ball is in your court but I could not bare to go back to the iPhone (I've been using it since it came out).
Wrong section of the captivate forum to be asking questions, theres a proper section for that..., about your issues most are plassebo, try flashing a i9000 rom and give it another try.

I totally agree with the earlier posts about trying other setups before giving up on it. I LOVE my setup. UCJH3 firmware, SREv1.2.1a, Tayutama's Lagfix4. All can be found on threads here.Do it step by step and you will see a HUGE difference. The only thing that will still suck, I think, is the GPS. I find mine very erratic. But everything else is great and almost no lag.
Most of your issues are non-existent on the stock ROM - so either you borked something while customizing or your phone has a hardware issue.
The browser should work without issue. GPS is broken, and none of the fixes do much so that we have to wait on Samsung.
The phone is in its infancy. Remember ios 2 on the 3g? Well apple learned a lot and there software is always polished. You may want to wait for the next android support phones. Apple did a good job this time around but the touch screen interface needs too many steps and the home screens are too cluttered I want to put icon any where putting them in groupings helps my eyes and brain navigate. I'll trade the gps and a few bugs for that any day. Phones are supposed to be intuitive, the iphone may be easy but I'll argue all day that is not intuitive. Android may be less easy but I can make it intuitive, it takes a little time and a few market apps though. That's why I chose this phone, but I don't knock iphone users, just the fanboys.
If you like to tinker ands it sounds like you do you may just get addicted to this thing.
The data problems may be do to the stock software, do a reflash of jh3, with the original I couldn't switch from wifi to edge or the other way around without killing the app and restarting it. I haven't noticed that problem lately with jh2

Yeah Facebook for android absolutely blows. Not just push notifications but the whole app. One of the worst apps I have on my phone. Like today, i had 2 notifications of ppl writing on my wall. When i go to notifications and click on the post to read the end of it, it opens in the browser??? Honestly??? Makes me back out, go to my own profile and then go to the wall. That's crap. Facebook for iPhone is better than the Facebook website, yet i would almost rather delete my Facebook account than use it on android.

Just about a hour ago I received "push" notification about update available for my Bell XT860 4G. Installed it - got Android version 2.3.6, system version 5.2.476.XT860.BellMobility.en.CA.
I am now checking to see if bugs I've experienced have been resolved. It is too early to say for now, but I will update the thread once I gather more stats.
Awesome! I didn't think you stayed on stock...
Will we be able to get an SBF our of the update? If all the issues are resolved I'd wanna flip back to the Bell official f/w
Sent from my XT860 using xda premium
Update wasn't complete firmware for sure as it downloaded relatively fast (I didn't pay attention of the size - accidentally pressed update now). I am afraid SBF situation for us with Bell phones, remains unchanged.
Yeah - I say stock with this one. There's not much bloat if at all compared to what Verizon does on their phones, plus I am one of the few who likes blur Though, I have to admit it was really difficult not to follow my own rules not to "sway off the light side" if aint way back.. Glad now I resisted
Too bad no update will ever fix the crappy display or the abysmal amount of RAM for this generation of phones Motorola opted in.. /end rant!
Anybody knows if we need to unroot before the update ?
Also, does any changes to the system partition will prevent the update from installing ?
Do I need to restore "frozen" APKs from Titanium ?
I'm kind of excited for this...
How do we pull the update files from the phone memory ?
Can't seem to get the update from the system menu....
So many questions !!!
Did they patch the root vulnerability, or are you using rootkeeper
xt860, android 2.3.5, Eclipse 1.1.1
Haven't got the update notification yet, but I was wondering if any of my questions would have an impact on the updating process.
Couple of updates on my findings yet:
1) power drain after using the car dock has been resolved
2) auto brightness not restoring back to normal when undock from media station/stand is fixed too
3) keyboard auto-repeat bug seems to be resolved too (I have not experienced it since the update and I was quite a bit before!)
4) cell standby no longer at the top of power use stats, but I can't comment on battery life until at least couple of days of use. Looks quite promising though!
5) receiving SMS while docked in car dock does not crash anymore - screen offering you to read/reply - you can listen to the message and reply back using voice commands. Before the update, whenever I received SMS I get a message to force close a process which died.
6) camera makes significantly better shots color wise. Images are still "noisy" though. I don't find camera any faster than before. It also shows some ill effects - every now and then (say 1 out of 5-6 times) camera crashes upon taking a pic - no force close - just exit to home screen and picture being taken at the time of crash does not get saved. Still better than Avatar-like looking people..
7) connected music player app has been revamped. Color scheme now matches the rest of the interface. Playback windows has been optimized for landscape use.
8) MotoPrint has been updated too - now available on market actually. Supported any printer I threw on it (and we have plenty of different variety at the office).
So far I am VERY impressed, as the biggest hurdles have been resolved!
I just got off a 40 minute long call which consumed less than 10% battery (7% if circle battery widget is right), phone didn't get excessively hot either, I'd even say it stayed surprisingly cool during this call.
I have not noticed any improvements on download/upload speeds - they stay the same as before. For couple of days I am using ADW launcher EX (bought for 10 cents) and I really like it, I am yet to test with Motorola default launcher (where lack of RAM was most prominent).

Judging from my Droid 2 Global experience - being rooted does not fail the update process. What does, though, is if you have recovery installed (or any other alternation of a file located in /system. Since update is distributed as patch - it fails only if a file it tries to patch has been modified (which is the case if you have hijack installed to get clockwork mod working). Extra files (like su binary and superuser.apk) do not seem to disturb the update. Most definitely you must have all files in /system (no frozen/deleted stuff).
This doesn't mean Motorola have not changed the process to verify if phone is rooted (easiest thing - check for su and superuser.apk) or calculate check sum of /system partition to ensure it was not tampered with.
If you are rooted when you receive the update - you can use privileged access to pull the update file before it is installed - check in /cache for it. It is easy to spot it.
Due to the lack of SBF (and my principles) my XT860 wasn't rooted when I installed the update, so I can't confirm my findings from D2G are valid here. But I am sure it won't be long before everyone receives it.
Thanks for the reply ! Very helpful
So, should I uninstall the bootstrap ?
If I can't get the update to install, I'll try to recover an old system.img nandroid backup I did when it first came out for D3.

Uninstalling the bootstrap doesn't remove the hijack. There's actually a file called hijack somewhere on your.phone you need to remove and also remove logwrapper and rename logwrapper.bin to logwrapper. I can't for the life of me remember where these are located. Also someone may wish to confirm these instructions. I've mixed it up before

I'm trying a full restore from my nandroid backup then will try to dd the initial system.img I created back in September, might throw in a titaniumbackup restore as well.. Although if all goes bad I will just go to retail SBF (that one looks way better than the vivo one, I had to load it up for a few min today). Wish me luck with it all! I did sign up for the update beta a while ago, let's see if I'm in the pool or not...

Didn't work... I am just going to restore to brazil retail and will keep my phone like that until bell SBF comes around

Here's the update. I tried to flash it with CWM but I got an error. I'm not much of a chef so I can't figure out how to mod it to work. The link is for the unmodded version.
https://rapidshare.com/files/3968311425/Blur_Version.5.1.544.XT860.BellMobility.en.CA.zip
Nardholio, thanks for posting the zip. I'll have a look to see what was actually changed. But at 50MB or so it is a serious overhaul.
You're getting the error, because of the CWM. You need to uninstall it and restore the hijacked logwrapper. I had a post somewhere of how to do it manually, will look it up and link it here. Edit: here is it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17333863&postcount=152 should be the same for this phone as was for D2G I believe. Be careful - if you break the logwrapper, phone will stay on M logo.
Another thing I noticed today which got some nice improvements is the connected music app. Now color scheme matches the rest of the phone and layout has been rearranged to get better use of the landscape position (when phone is docked in). Battery consumption seems really improved, but again - it is too early to report real stats on this.

Relax my friend XT862 has a pre-alpha version of Android 4.0.1.
All,
We don't have an ICS Bugs thread going on. I wanted to check with some of the people here on XDA to see if they are experiencing what I am. Currently on .213, but most of these bugs I've seen since the begining. Oh, I'm also in Canada running on 3G HSPA+. I'm stock, but rooted with safestrap installed.
1) When placing a phone call, the phone hangs up immediately (you here the disconnected beep), then retries the phone call a few seconds later (it always succeeds). I have tried this on a freshly wiped phone and found the same experience. I have also tried disabling the Assisted Dialing, but have found ikt's the same thing
2) When using Google Chrome, if there is a input box, most of the time my keyboard won't appear (I'm using Swype as my default keyboard)
3) Phone runs hot sometimes, and when it's running hot it slows down to a halt. Usually happens after a day or two without a restart
4) My photo doesn't appear in the text messaging app (worked in AOKP/CM9 on my D3, as well as it works on my gf's Nexus S)
The only bug I noticed was that it initially booted up in global mode, and wouldn't connect to 4G/CDMA. Switching it to CDM+LTE fixed the issue and I haven't seen a bug since (213).:good:

Is your chrome working properly? Specifically the bug I mentioned in the OP...?
I didn't comment on that because I use Opera
Just tried the Chrome Beta now just to see, and I can confirm I am seeing the same behavior. I use Swiftkey, so it isn't a Swype-specific bug either.
What exactly is the difference between Chrome and the built-in browser? Aren't they both Webkit-based? Why is Google bothering to work on both?

Text entry works fine in both the stock browser and Opera. BTW, Opera also has hardware acceleration, which is why it never worked in any of the Frankbuilds of ICS based off the GB kernel ... So you can have your teh snappy and type with it too
I'm on the 212 build and i can't screencap using power + volume down.
Is this fixed in 213 or am i just doing it wrong?
Also on 212 i can't control the default google music app or winamp from my bluetooth headset when the screen is off. I could do this before with the same version of the winamp app when i was back on gingerbread. I tried upgrading winamp, but that did nothing. Is there any change in 213?
Thanks ahead of time
Edit: just tried it and the volume down + power combo worked. Lol
One question, possible thought to ponder.
Are the bugs being described here really bugs of Android 4 or are they bugs in the individual app itself not being fully compatible with Android 4 yet?
Do similar bugs happen on a non-motorola device with android 4?
I'm considering flashing one of the leaks, so I'm trying to understand how you are sure these are ics bugs before I make the leap and run into issues.
Thanks.
Apologies if this constitutes hijacking the thread, if it does let me know and I"ll edit it to delete the question.
I was able to figure out bug #4, I had to login with my Google+ account again, since the update yesterday everything seems to be working fine.
Bugs 1 through 3 still exist, although I've switched off Global mode for now and put it to GSM only, it seems like the phone runs a lot cooler in this mode.
Even after updating Chrome to the final version, I'm still experiencing that text input bug. Maybe it's a Motorola issue... Can't wait for the next version of the leak!
I have tasker reboot my phone every morning at 6am. The phone doesn't need to be rebooted every day, but it ensures that it is fresh and ready to go every morning
Nothing more annoying than trying to do something with your phone and having to reboot it because it is slow for whatever reason.

for this reason I think there will be other leaks, ICS is supposed to handle killing processes much better than GB, however the settings seem to not be aggressive enough in 213.
Probably there will be, though I likely won't update again for a while. Don't feel like losing all that data...

You could just do what I do: once you have root install safestrap and then take a backup of your phone before flashing the upgrade.
Once you're all done upgrading, re-root and re-install safestrap, then do an advanced restore and only restore the data. Voilla, all your apps are back.

I don't know, just had a random reboot after watching a youtube video in firefox, most likely memory related, not sure who's fault though, Motorola or Firefox. gotta root and use system tuner to change memory mgmt states.

That is a great idea. Though there hasn't been another leak since 213, so
Notification Bar Sticking/Wont Pull Down
I am on 212 currently, and I have noticed in 208 and 212 something that has happened only twice so far. Today, I just tried to check my notifications, and the bar will not pull down.
After a reboot it works fine, and it has only happened 2 times in the past couple weeks since the leaks first appeared.
Obviously it is a minor glitch, but just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else has seen it and overlooked it. :cyclops:

I have heard of a few others using this method successfully. If you are not using safestrap or just don't want to go this route take a look at the post link in my signature. It's a modified version of the original Droid 4 Utility and includes a script to jump from one ICS leak to another without losing data. It also flashes the GB files and the Kernel (boot.img) in one script, thus making it easier to go from one leak to another.
Regarding bugs, my wife got a razr yesterday. It wouldn't pull down the ICS update, so I just sideloaded it. We both run some of the same apps. So this gave me a chance to do side by side comparisons. The issue with some of the icons being small in the left top of the status seems to be a app issue. The chrome issue isn't present on the razr, of course there isn't a physical keyboard. Otherwise my 213 ICS seems to run great.
I found a new bug, it looks like GSM call forwarding doesn't work properly... at least it doesn't with my SIM card, I'm on Rogers in Canada.
Does Verizon support call forwarding? Does it work on there?
I have noticed in Chrome that pressing shift and then one of the symbol keys (like @) will only work if you hold the shift key.
More importantly I don't get notifications of app updates from google play. Check to see if you have any apps that need updating. Superuser had a update on July 1, dropbox yesterday and voodoo rootkeeper on June 28, I think. Anyone else?
Hello, I hope I can post this here.. i tried, i searched... can't find any solution to my issue.
Model : SM-T810 , with Samsung 128GB UHS microSD. OS : stock Nougat from Samsung.
Here is the problem :
On the play store, if there are pending updates, they only install one at a time, and then it won't do more. Like if there is 5 pending updates, it will maybe do one, and then the other 4 stay pending. It might only do the download portion of the first one and not go to the install phase. If there's no pending updates, and i try to install an app, only the downloading portion of the process shows up, it stops after that, it doesn't go to installing. I have to close the store and go back in for it to install, but if there's a queue of downloads (updates or asked to install multiple apps), I have to close the store for the same amount of apps in the queue for them to install one by one. Now I noticed that every once and a while, 2 or 3 will have updated overnight but that's it!
I closed the process, I cleared the cache, I cleared the data, I cleared the download manager's data and cache, i rebooted, i forced a wrong date and time then set it to auto-date and time to retry, etc.... I uninstalled the Play Store updates, nothing worked!!!
The next step was to do a factory reset. I did not want to lose some progress on some games, AND I have an app to read PDF files and did not want to lose read/unread status of my files...
So I used Odin to flash TWRP, did a backup, rooted, used Titanium Backup to backup my apps.
Then I did factory reset. Store behaved normally again! Installed a few apps, waited a few hours, still good. Did a restore of my apps from titanium backup, everything seemed fine, then a few hours later, store still was not updating or installing the apps right...
Did another factory reset, store worked fine, only restored a couple of backed up apps (the critical ones that i wanted to keep the saves from), everything worked fine. Over the course of 24 hrs, i re-installed a bunch of my regular apps via the play store. Play store worked fine. I did to another Nandroid backup with TWRP just in case.
Then all of a sudden, it started to lag a bit between clicking install, to downloading, to installing. And then a few hours later, issue completely came back, store won't install without me closing it between the download finish and install.
Now one of the last steps I did before it started acting up again was moving ONE app to the SD card (not using any root features). I'm not sure if that caused the issue to come back.
I did notice that Android left a bunch of files on my SD card, some Android folder, with a bunch of subfolders.
I'm wondering if the SD card could be the culprit... I will do one last restore from my last working Nandroid backup and not move anything to the SD card.
If it comes up again, i think i will move the data that i have on my SD card that I dont want to loose (my PDF, pictures, etc.) on to my NAS, and do a factory reset without the SD card installed. Maybe even re-flash with Samsung Kies... and forget about my Titanium Backup saves...
It's my last resort so I was hoping anyone would have any idea on what else to try before doing that?
One last point : yes the stores kinda slows down at some point where the download process takes a few seconds to kick in, and then a few seconds to installing, up to the point where it never does. BUT the rest of my tablet still is really fast, no slow downs anywhere else... All apps launch fast
Thanks!
Auto updates are bad. They just kill the performance of your s2.. better do such things manually.

Auto updates of the apps? Or the OS?
Apps i can see... but still... If I turn that off, that solves the issue of the auto-updates. But then if I want to update a bunch, they will only do one by one, i have to close the store and open again after each updated app.
But even with app auto-updates, if i want to install one new app on my S2, it will only download, but not install, i have to close the store and open it again for it to install. Then the next time that I want to install an app, I have to do the same thing again, close and open. It's like the download manager doesn't tell the Play Store app to do the install (or tell whatever app or service to install the APK...)

Thanks for the info.
I would check for OTA update but since i rooted mine, it won't do them...
I'd have to flash the stock rom from samsung again and loose my saved data... which right now i might be OK living without...
Anyone knows if I loose TWRP if i flash a stock rom with odin ? If so... am i better using Kies?
Fair, let's recap: you do not use stock rom. You have root, twrp, flashed this and that and a morbid desire to have always the very lastest version of whatever the app. And now the Play store doesn't work properly anymore.. d
Do you see the pattern?
But, hey, maybe you need even more *lates updates* to fix your issue.
Updates = bad performance and new issues in general. Period.

Wooooh, DON'T jump to conclusions here.
I was running the STOCK out of the box Android for the S2, no root, no TWRP. The issue started after one year of usage, and not only included updating apps but installing FRESH NEW ONES TOO.
The "flash this and that" came AFTER i ran into issues.
I also have a Note 5 supplied from work and for that reason I'm still runing stock, not rooted, and never will root it. I have over 100 apps on there, 5 email accounts (2 professionnal, 3 personnal), multiple google calendars, multiple outlook calendars, auto-update is on, it's been over a year and a half, if not more, and never ran into this kind of issue, ever! It's synced with my CPAP, my smart watch, and my headphones. And it's still goes the same speed and gives me the same performance as when i took it out of the box.
My tab S2 is my second Android tablet, before I had a Tab 3 that never gave me issues like that either, and always had auto-updates on.
Sometimes you need updates. Some online services might not work right or at all if you don't have the app that matches the features, like evernote, facebook, onedrive, dropbox, etc...
Or you get new hardware that requires an update.
Yes sometimes they include bugs ... which are fixed in a later version.

In my case I do have stock rom and have had issues with play store since update to Nought. It does seem better since last night's OTA update.

I saw multiple posts of people having different phones running stock having this exact issue for a while with no solution in view. I think it has to do with Nougat too... But my Note 5 is on Nougat and no issue... it might be brought on with specific services or apps running while on Nougat.

Thanks for letting me know about the OTA update. Since i was rooted, i can't get OTA updates, would have needed to wait for the 7.1 Rom to flash...
I ended up taking screenshots of the stuff i didnt want to loose (read/unread status of my pdf files, nevermind the save games) and then i used Samsung Smart Switch to reflash the whole thing back to strictly stock, lastest firmware. So far so good, crossing fingers

Fair. So in this *year of usage* you never ever updated the OS?
And auto-update was of course *off*, right?
If that's the case, then clearly there must be some other issue with your s2.
Otherwise, you have merely confirmed what I have told in the very beginning: updates = bad performance and new issues in general. Period.
By the by, apps like evernote and facebook track and spy on you.
About your Note 5, maybe there weren't so many updates..

Yes in that year of usage I upgraded the OS from 5 to 6 to 7. Yes auto-update was on, for Android and for my apps. By stock rom i meant nothing flashed "this and that" like you said.
If you would read my other comments, you'd also realize that another member helped me more by letting me know there was an OTA update that helped him. I reflashed my S2 with Samsung Smart Switch and haven't had any issue with the Play Store since... that proves that updates do fix issues.
There's no OS versions, app versions, firmware versions on any devices that don't have any issues whatsoever. Updates might bring bugs but they also fix the ones from previous versions. If you think that anything stock out of the box never have any issues whatsoever, you're wrong.
Apps like evernote and facebook spy and track you? Really? And you're on a forum for Android based product and don't think that Google tracks what you do? If you dont sign in with your google account and only browse the web with your tablet, that's your business, but you can't go on forums and admonish people for doing otherwise.
Besides, this is a forum where a good part of the posts are about custom roms, flashing different boot/recovery loaders, different kernels, unlocking phones... and you're judging me because i do app updates, and flash "this and that" ?
Come on...
No judging here. Just pointed out the probem at hand.
You did update the OS at least twice.. see?
OEM updates = bad in general.
Sure, new updates fix what *previous updates* screwed up to begin with; sometimes.
I totally agree that there is no OS version that is 100% issue free, but -- why trying to fix something that seems to work?
You see, that is my whole point.
I told you about evernote and facebook because you mentioned to have them on your Note 5 which happens to be your professional work phone?!
Just be aware that Evernote steals content just like the FB messenger. And I mean literally. Your creative ideas become their property. You did agree to their terms! FB also records the mic(s) 24/7.
Certainly Google tracks and spies as well. Then again, you can deactivate or block (firewall) those services/apps.
Just remember, things that are *free* come with a price.
Niii4, I tried to subtely pass the message that I did not want any of your help when I said that SOMEONE ELSE helped me with their input and update.
I didn't say that I was using evernote and facebook on my Note 5 from work. Jumping to conclusions again.
You want to know what are the biggest secrets in my Evernote notes ??? RECIPES!!!!!
Oh no... they can read the oh so secret lemon crinkle cookies recipe that is available with a quick online search! Here's the link btw : http://www.laurenslatest.com/lemon-crinkle-cookies/
I came here after trying a lot of troubleshooting steps, when everything that I've tried failed. And someone else helped me.
All you brought to the table was misinformation about updates in general and spread paranoia on who is spying on who.
fonetyk asked you to stop that, and I asked you to stop that. So far my issue has been resolved and i'm thankful to the user Tabpro8.4 for his comment.

Oh yeah, an OTA update seemed to have fixed it. Seemed.. for now.
Second, this is not exclusively about *helping you*. Apparently you are quite knowledge resistant, especially when facts are being stated that don't conform your general view.
True, you only have hundreds of apps on your work phone. But definitely not FB messenger or whatnot. Whatever. What's right is right, and what's fair is fair.
I suppose, you are probably right, the work you do must be of no interest for anybody in this world; at all. Same for your private life. Now, be a neat little sheep and go on chewing the green.. (while we are watching you).
Oh, and you stalking all my comments, telling people to ignore me is hilarious. Keep up the great whine. ?
