I was wondering if anybody else is experiencing a similar issue. It is a common occurance for me, and here is how one could try and reproduce the issue:
1) Open google maps, search for a place, call it.
2) Go to another application on the phone for a little while, do something different
3) Try loading google maps again, it acts quite sluggish and then starts to load then restart!
I have noticed this problem since I got my phone, even past all of the Google Maps updates, and all of the OS updates, and remembered it happened when I was on the Brazilian verison as well.

About 2-3 weeks ago I went into the Android Market to do an update on the google maps. I clicked install and left the phone to do its thing.
I only noticed yesterday that the Google Maps update is still showing as installing (3 weeks later)
It won't let me stop the install or do anything with it. I think this is affecting other issues I had downloading other apps as they are also saying installing but nothing is happening. I can stop them but I can't stop the Google Maps update.
Can anyone tell me how I can stop this install!
I'm having a couple of wonky issues that recently presented themselves.
First, the compass is acting up. It always points in the wrong direction in Maps. It is usually about 45 degrees off, but lately it seems to only want to point south. It also points in the wrong direction when using GPS Essentials, but I haven't tried anything else.
Second, and the more frustrating issue: Maps is not working. First issue with maps: When I search for a destination and look at the route (before I start the route guidance), if the screen shuts off the phone will not wake up. I will have to reboot the phone. Second issue with maps: Route guidance crashes the phone. Specifically, when the voice talks, maps will freeze, causing me to have to reboot the phone. The really strange part is if I turn the volume all the way down, I can navigate just fine. It is only when the voice talks that it crashes. However, as you can guess, a voiceless guidance isn't all that helpful.
Things that I have done in the past that may or may not have any affects on my current issue: I have used faux's kernel, but went back to the stock kernel. I also use Viper's audio fix.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try to fix this??
*sigh*
The only time things work correctly is if you ask for help, right? I don't know if I have a permanent fix, but the compass and maps issues have subsided.
Here's what I did: I tried to use GPS Essentials multiple times to calibrate the compass with no success. I then tried GPS Status and Toolbox and that seemed to properly calibrate the compass, so that issue may be resolved.
Concerning the maps crashing: I tried disabling Viper audio for the phone speaker (I hadn't had this issue when the voice guidance was through the bluetooth), and it seemed to act normally. Since I only used Viper for the phone speaker I decided to totally uninstall the driver and app.
I don't know if this is a perma fix, but I'll try it out for a while and see what happens.
I've had my new Seat Leon for a week now and have been using Android Auto a little in this time. I really like it but it seems buggy. For example when using maps, the images will freeze, only updating every couple of minutes. When you are trying to follow an on screen map while travelling at 60mph, this can be very annoying. The other bug I seem to have is that my car seems picky when connecting to my phone (Nexus 5) sometimes. It will say 'not compatible' and will refuse to connect. The only way to solve these two issues is to restart my phone and sometimes to also toggle the USB debugging check box.
Is there anywhere to report bugs to Google? I'd like to help the community in ironing out these issues.

Open the Android Auto app.
Tap the 3 dots at top right.
Select "Help & Feedback" and then select Feedback at the bottom.
I'm honestly not sure it will help too much though. There are no idle employees waiting for problem reports who spring into action at a new report.
But if Google sees 100 reports of Problem X, it might move X a bit higher in their priority list.
The freeze problem is actually new to Android Auto, and it started for me on July 31th. Google changed something server-side because even two clean installs didn't solve the issue, and it was working flawlessy until that day. No solutions found so far, had to switch to an iPhone to navigate. Read my report here:

That seems to be the same issue I'm getting. But strangely this isn't happening all the time. The pattern seems to be when I connect the phone to the car, set up the Google maps navigation, stop and disconnect the phone (for example getting lunch on my way into work), then connect again and continue the navigation. When connecting for the second time I get the issue whereby the refreshing doesn't seem to happen. As you say in your other forum post, this seems to update when you touch the screen.
Hopefully if this bug has only appeared in the last few days, hopefully someone will spot it and report back to get a fix. I've written a brief feedback note saying that I have found a bug and am interested to help them get it fixed!
I see a lot of people having problems with certain phones. I have Note Edge and never a problem. My wife has a s6 and used to have problems about 10 minutes into a drive (Black Screen, no control, most other probs mentioned here). Read somewhere if you load the "Android Auto App" on the phone first and then plug in. She has never had a problem Since. Something happens on App load that is not happening on "Auto Launch on detection" (My gut feeling is something to do with bluetooth). Just wanted to pass it along for those people having issues. I am sure google will fix at some point but give it a try and see if it solves your issues. It did ours.

Yes! If something fails with Bluetooth, then the AA connection disconnects. I hope Google fix this soon.
I 7se Google Maps daily on the S10. But if the screen goes off it stops giving directions and I have to hit Start again and resume. Only way it stays on is if I start the trip and physically hold the phone and not let the screen lock. Anyone else? Never had this issue with any other phone, Galaxy or otherwise.
I have the same issue. I use Automate to automatically turn AOD on and off based on received notification. I originally thought it causes this problem. Unfortunately, I can´t proove it because I needed to drive and hadn´t time to play with the phone. Just an idea to consider.
Edit: maybe it is Google maps bug. Have you tried uninstalling app updates?
Might have to do just that. But it does seems like a Maps bug, yet it was fine on my Note 8, and the iPhone X before that. So idk if it's Maps or a software bug with the S10. Normally I just tap "start" and then immediately click the lock/wake button and set the phone down and it sends the directions through the car or headset.
Verizon variant here by the way 100% stock.
Try to prevent the phone to set the Maps app to sleep. I had a similar thing with the old version of Maps (V6 which I still use).
Just search for 'Sleeping Apps' in your settings
I have been experiencing a problem with my X4 lately. Suddenly, Google Apps such as Youtube, Google Chrome, Youtube Music, Play Store, even GMAIL started to crash. Out of the blue, they just close, sometimes they close and report that "app x stopped working", and often "Google Play Services stopped working" and this pretty much makes the cellphone unusable, the apps won't open anymore, not even a reboot would solve it. Sometimes apps as Facebook, Instagram, the Native Camera, even SETTINGS will crash. Following this crashes, sometimes the cellphone will just shut off the display and crash, only coming back after a forced reboot (BUT, as strange as it may seem, the long press on the power button works just fine and the display wakes but only showing shut off and reboot options).
I was experiencing this problem with the stock Android 9 ROM. I then removed my google account, wiped it, did a factory reset for a couple times, did not work. I flashed the stock ROM, but the problems only got worse. Then i flashed the Pixel Experience w/ Android 10 using the latest TWRP, same problems happened, with a clean installation, wiped everything. I used it for a couple of months, but the crashes were just increasing over time.
I then installed the Lineage OS 18.1 on Android 11 on my X4; Same thing, clean installation, wiped everything, removed all Google Accounts, flashed the latest GAPPS. Boy oh boy, it was smooth like butter on the beginning (i recommend this ROM very much), one week goes by and the same crashes come back again, every once in a while. I just can't figure what could be causing the crashes, same issues with 4 different roms!
If anyone please has experienced this or know how could i fix it, it would help me very much. Thank y'all for your attention.
Next time it happens i will try and take a screenshot to post here.
Did you ever get a solution to this? I am having the same issue.
