Hi
I'm on onecosmic rc2. 11.
At first my battery was fine but now it's dropping 1% every 4 minute.
I Wana flash back to gingerbread
Which firmware should I flash
2.3.6 (xxjvu) : or 2.3.4?
And which kernels can I use with them.
What is a deodexed and odexed fw?

You might find the battery drain goes away if you reboot, but ICS will have teething problems for the next few months.
I was using Simplicity on ginger bread. It's an odexed stock ROM, pre-rooted and worked great out of the box with no hassles. Their latest is based on JVU.
Rebooted but still it drains... Fast
And cache problem is frustrating.... In ics

You can flash any 2.3.6 (JVU for more features or JW1 for official/more tested)... No need to go back to the old 2.3.4 anyway!
If you wanna flash any GB i remind you to also use .pit file and re-partition (ICSSGS and CM9 do not use rfs file system).
Kernels: you can use all the GB kernels such as Semaphore (i use that one), talonden, Galaxian + much more...
Deodexed and odexed: see this!
i have personally used xxjvu, very stable rom
don't worry abt the kernel and stuff
just put the three firmware files and pit in odin and flash

I think JW1 is much more stable.

im very confused about the captivates organization of roms and what is and is not jvb and jvh.. i own a fascinate. and the only (only letter) acronym used with the fascinate are our "MTD" roms which is the file system used for our aosp roms..
what roms are jvb, jvh? what is your most current source? gingerbread or froyo? what is your most current ota?
JVB, JVH etc are leaked builds for international galaxy S I9000 which have been ported to work with captivate. If you go by this JVR which is 2.3.4 is latest.
But all these are I9000 sources modded to work on captivate. If you are looking at stock captivate build it is KF1 which is GB 2.3.3. KF1 is also a leaked build
Ok.. I have decided to go straight to miui. On the fascinate I would just odin all in 1 stock. Odin a recovery. Flash rom with kernel. It seems like all the guides I find want me to root.. Why would I root if I'm leaving the rom behind end going straight to a rooted rom? .. Is there a guide to flashing miui for captivate I'm not seeing? On fassinate you must flash cm7 first. I'm thinking I would do the same here right?

In answer to your question, here is the guide.
You'll want to be rooted for one simple reason - usually rooting allows you to install the ClockworkMod Recovery Menu (CWM) that will make installing Roms on the Captivate a whole lot easier.
Judging from the guide, you don't need to flash CM7 first. Just make sure you're running the original Froyo/Eclair bootloaders (if you haven't flashed gingerbread, you should have them), and that holding Vol+/Vol-/Power gets you to the recovery menu and that holding Vol+/Vol- and inserting your USB cable gets you to download mode.
Other than that, MIUI away.
Is your version of miui a mtd based rom?

I honestly couldn't tell you. I haven't used MIUI, so I don't have any experience to say. The MIUI info page is a little sparse, but a quick search in the thread does mention MTD a few times, so it's possible.
Cappy miui is MTD based. Gingerbread bootloaders do work but the stock miui/cm7 kernel doesnt ssupport them yet so you'll need to flash a kernel that does support the gb bootloaders such as TalonMTD

I ran miui on gb loaders with no problem. And I used the platypus/NEO 10, 12, & 16 kernels. Talonmtd actually kept causing my phone to freeze up.

But could you access your external sd card on GB bootloaders?

Hello.
I was running Semaphore with JVT. Now I'm on Hacksungs ICS builds it says it's using JVK? Is this correct? And should I flash JVT back?
Kind regards

It means that you are using JVK baseband (modem), it's default modem on hacksungs ics. If you want to flash different modem, go to siky_dude's cm7 modem thread. If your signal and battery life is good, there's no need to flash another modem.

Thank you for clarifying that. I will leave it be then. Much appreciated and thanks left.
Hi everybody, i've a question about installation of kernell and roms.
I must flash my phone with Ufficial Samsung Firmware before install new kernel and new rom?
And i have another question (i just used search but i didn't find anything) about differences on XWJW1 JVZ and go on.. which are differences?
Thank u
u dont have to instal an official firmware before instaling a custom kernel or rom. its obvious that if u didnt flashed the phone yet, it has an official rom on it jvs jvz jvt - depends on the location where you bought the phone (i think) i am kinda a new too
Ok thank u, then about jvz jvs jvt i should know the corrispective locations..
I think jvt is the most stable, works really well with latest semaphore kernel, waiting for next stable release, then hopefully ics will be worth a try

I admit I enjoy the latest flavors of ICS for i9000 but not having the luxury of accessing my external sd is getting a bit tiresome.
So now I am planning to flash my phone back to a stable GB release until a decent fix for external sd on ICS is released.
Questions:
1. What GB Rom is the most stable and "almost" lag free?
2. What's the best way to flash my phone back to gingerbread coming from an ICS flavored rom.
Help!
what do you mean by not been able to access your sd card? have you looked for the emmc folder?
as for your questions:
1. look around every rom has it's goods and it's bads.
2.always flash a stock rom using odin
Its only 1 wsy to flash it, if u want back from any aosp rom (cm7/9, miui, aokp etc..) Odin, bcz it using other file system etc.
What is the best? Its hard question, you need to read, check and its all

Flash any sammy gingerbread firmware with odin , but make sure you flash a complete fiware which has 4 files pit, csc, modem, code.
Otherwise you have to flash dbdata.rfs after one file firmware flash .
And in my opinion best combo for phone is stock + galaxian kernel .
Thanks guys, will hit thanks button later when I am in front of the pc

I tested few ICS roms and I was almost happy with RC4.2 but I had a Gmail issue, thats why i decided to return to GB and I can recommend SAUROM ROM (based on JVU) - stable with huge quantity of options.
Well there are methods, but everytime I go wrong with flashin ICS kernels and roms, I go back to Download mode and with odin to Darky's full release ROM: http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/v10-2-final-what-are-you-waiting-for.4253/
or for the latest base rom: http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-jvu-re-gt-i9000.6558/
But I've really been enjoying the new 4.0.4 Dark Knight 2.1 ICS rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1510940
Everything's been working well and no problems encountered so far. And as for GB releases, Darky is best for me, don't know why.
hey, i have flashed aosp imilka v08 and that ROM work perfect but doesnt have stylus apps and i want to downgrade to GB stock rom so i can go to ics official for the note what do i have to do?
Edit, see next post

This thread says it all. Best to cros check there before doing anything, apparently even with pc odin there is a brick risk wtf
Procedure is the same for your current rom.
