When I heard the Optimus Black was coming to Sprint USA in the form of the LG Marquee, I was very excited.
But it appears that the Sprint version was not met with the same positive reception. Users complained about poor battery (one person even said it seems to run out faster than it can charge), dropped signal randomly, and general screen lag during transitions.
I finally got a chance to use one in a store display recently (wrote about the experience here), and I must admit it seemed to have more screen lag than any of the other devices on display, even compared to an Optimus S (Optimus One variant). There are some folks who are tweaking it to work for them and like it well enough, but I recall hearing such great things about the Optimus Black, so I'm wondering where the discrepancy lies between these two devices.
Could it be Gingerbread?
The Marquee ships with Gingerbread, which LG did a horrible job implementing on the Optimus S. In fact, Sprint pulled the Gingerbread update on the Optimus S after numerous complaints about battery life and poor performance. Could it be that LG jumped the gun on this and should have stuck to Froyo?
What do you Optimus Black owners think of all this?
Well if this is true, then it does make sense why LG is still not releasing GB update for OB. Perhaps they may be trying to make it less bug than Marquee.
Can't say more untill GB is released officially for OB.

That is the case i imagine as the android 2.3 Gingerbread on the US Sprint version is not the full Gingerbread as i have read in several sites but its a very close Gingerbread release thats why it is so buggy
So they will be making it more stable and final release for the P970 whenever they decide its finished
Dishe,
When I am interested in a product, I normally do some research on it 1st. I go to forums expecting to read the pros & cons. Obviously, forums are filled with posts & threads (from people like yourself) that express their opinions of a specific product. I have no problem with that at all. I know how to filter through posts that are BS. I don't have any problem with differences of opinions, nor a problem with someone out there doesn't like this phone or has had a negative personal experience with it....but I do have a problem w/ false or incorrect information.
Which is why I have a problem w/ your posts. You have gone on multiple different forums/websites& repeatedly posted negative, some false & unconfirmed information about a phone a) you don't personally own & b) have not really given a fair amount of time with (messing with a store Demo imo doesn't count). Either way, there have been more people (like myself) that have posted numerous POSITIVE reviews/fixes/advice about this phone you seem to ignore. More importantly, even with these suggestions out there, you repeatedly continue to post information that is confusing & contradicting to someone that might be interested in purchasing this specific phone.
BTW, before continuing to post incorrect information about Sprint new return policy. As I have not seen ANYWHERE (except for your posts) that Sprint only will give you 14 days to return from the date the order is placed or when the phone ships. I am actually pretty sure it's from the day the phone is received in hand & gets activated on the account. Anyways, it might be worth it for you to check on that & be sure to 100% confirm your information WITH SPRINT before posting that again.
You have implied LG might have a problem w/ Gingerbread. If your opinion is based on the pulled Gingerbread release for the Optimus S & if so what does it have to do with this phone?? Gingerbread seems to be working just fine on my LG Marquee. In addition, I do not think it was released for this phone pre-maturely.
This phone has never been promoted as a "replacement for the Optimus S" (once again, except with your posts). Although with SOME carriers it shares the Optimus name....but it doesn't with Sprint. In fact, you can still purchase a brand new Optimus S today from Sprint if you wanted to. Which tells me, this is just another phone in the Sprints product line....is it an improvement from the Optimus S?? Yes, absolutely....but not a direct replacement.
As to why Sprint isn't promoting this phone?? Who knows & more importantly who cares. Stop looking for some conspiracy theory or personal vendetta....My conclusion?? I am sure over the last month the iPhone release has squashed most of the promotion for newer phones (the LG Marquee isn't the only phone suffering right now from a lack of promotion).
This phone will not perform at the same levels as 4G phones (iPhone, Evo, Epic, Nexus). If you think it will or are expecting it to, prepare to be disappointed. This phone should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as those phones. Although physically similar to the Optimus Black, this IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PHONE internally...it shouldn't be compared to the LG Esteem (Metro PCS) either. It's apples & oranges here & once again should not be compared.
This phone was never promised to be anything more than a mid level 3G Android phone. Everything I have read from either LG or Sprint has never implied otherwise. With the exception of the LED notification that is in the manual (most likely a misprint), there has not been any info printed, released or promised about this specific phone (LG MARQUEE) from either manufacturer that hasn't been delivered. If you want gorilla glass, it doesn't have it....it also doesn't have a the same dedicated camera button as the Optimus S but DOES have a dedicated hard button (set as the Camera button by default) although it does not seem to support a half-way press to lock focus. It also does not have a slide out keyboard so if you want one/or must have it, THIS PHONE IS NOT FOR YOU.
LAG/STUTTER
The only negative thing I have found is there is an initial lag, stutter, lack of "smoothness" with the STOCK launcher program of this phone. In addition, I couldn't find a way to customize it to my liking. So I downloaded Launcher Pro which for those who don't know is a different Launcher App found in the Market. There is a free & paid version. I also tried ADW Launcer as well (pretty sure there is only a paid version). I liked them both as they both have alot of customization options, but personally I like Launcher Pro a little better. I can't even tell you why. It's just the one I decided on & it works for me.
SIGNAL ISSUE
There were 1-2 people that initially posted they had a signal issue. it was also made it VERY clear in follow up posts that the signal problem MAY NOT HAVE BEEN THE PHONE but most likely because they were in a low signal area. For the record, I have not experienced ANY drop outs, missed calls, or signal problems with the TWO LG Marquee phones that I personally own (since October 13th).
SCREEN RESPONSE
There was 1 person that reported a screen response issue....no one else, that I can find has been able to recreate or had the screen response problem. Again, I have not experienced ANY screen response issues or problems with the TWO LG Marquee phones that I personally own (since October 13th).
BATTERY LIFE
Yes, there are phones out there w/ better Battery life. With that said, there is a very helpful post (the one you hijacked) with really good tips on how to improve the Battery life of this phone. For the record, I applied most (not all) of the tips to my TWO LG Marquee phones that I personally own & am able to get 18-24 hours of pretty steady use without having to recharge. Your comment of "put the phone in airplane mode" doesn't really make sense & no one ever said to that btw (just you). Every tip mentioned still allows you to receive calls & texts. Here's the deal, with any phone shutting off a function that is not being used will increase your Battery life in the long run.
Brightness - If you keep the phone at 100% brightness, your battery will drop quickly. If you can adjust it & keep it lower it may help improve your Battery life.
Keeping the Data Sync, GPS, Bluetooth and Wifi are on (even they aren't being used) will drain the battery. Shutting them off when not in use will help improve Battery life. There is a free power control widget that comes with the phone but for more customization options, the EXTENDED CONTROLS App is recommended.
btw...there are more tips...search & you will find.
ROOT
This phone can be rooted....very easily. Again search & you will find.
ACCESSORIES:
Since the Marquee is a PHYSICAL clone of the Optimus Black accessories are VERY EASY TO FIND. Search Google, Amazon, eBay, etc.
In closing, if you are reading this, my goal wasn't to bash Dishe as much as it was to provide a different perspective & info to help anyone interested or looking at Sprint's LG Marquee. I personally own two of these phones & coming from a Touch Pro 2, I couldn't be happier. I am looking forward to more people getting this phone so together we can make it even better.
Aha...
Only one question for you, how much does Sprint or LG pay for your services?
- If they pay you a lot, congratulations, you are doing a good job.
- If they pay you a little or just nothing... I don't understand your way to appear into a forum and post this great manifest in your very first post... incredible.
To say that I'm in absolute agree with you regarding to the spammer-actitude of some people in this and other forums... I usually try to be a little bit more constructive...

I'm not getting paid at all...nor am I an employee. I own the phone & don't want people to steer away from it because of inaccurate posts. I am hoping more & more people embrace the phone, so in turn there can be more support out there in making this phone better.

Nosajsam is very active in the Android Central forum for the Marquee.
What he says in his post is true and is gleaned from the experience of users that have posted in that forum.
The problem that he, I and others at Android Central have with "dishe" is that he has been ripping the Marquee for a couple of weeks in any forum he can post in and he doesn't even have the phone and hasn't even held one until a couple of days ago.
Please refer to http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-lg-marquee/118994-marquee-improvements-over-optimus-s-2.html post #13.
We (from Android Central) don't mind someone pointing out flaws and giving opinions as long as they have at least used the phone for more that a demo in a phone store.
Good job, guys. Go ahead and deny the issues so that no one is interested in fixing them. At least I'm trying to figure out what happened here. For the record, nosa is coming from a windows mobile 6.5 device. As his first Android experience, I'm sure he is plenty impressed. But it would appear that those upgrading from another android device do not have good things to say. And I'd like to find out where lg deviated.
But it doesn't matter. I'm not here to troll or give negative opinions. These guys just get really defensive about this product. I would like to help bring the marquee up to the performance it SHOULD be capable of. All you two seem to do are get defensive and say everything is fine and I don't know what I'm talking about. Good luck with that.
Meanwhile, as far as wanting consumers to get the right idea- I agree, but not sure if the opinion of someone who has been using a touch pro 2 all this time is as helpful as you think. Sprint's policies have changed recently, ask them yourself. Folks have been reported this for a while, my own brother got screwed with a different phone, and at least one person who tried to get the marquee almost did as well. If I were researching a phone, followed your advice and then got stuck with this, I'd likely be pretty angry at you. What you have to remember is that this is your opinion. I am entitled to mine and we are both allowed to share and disagree. You think mine is invalid because it is based on other users posts and a very limited actual time with the device, and I think yours is invalid because you are new to the scene and don't have enough background to compare it to. Both may have merit. But your tone here is uncalled for.
I apologize to xda for bringing their hostility here. Thankfully they do not represent all of this or that other forum.

Again, there are more & more people posting positive reviews & experiences EVERYDAY (that you ignore) & in the meantime you still seem to think this phone has a problem. Its not a matter of denial here...there have not been any consistent reported issues yet with the Sprint LG MARQUEE that need to be fixed. (by consistent I mean acknowledged with ALL owners of) Please don't misunderstand, the Marquee isn't perfect but with very simple tweaks (apps &/or settings) it can perform better....btw isn't this the case w/ EVERY phone??
Your Optimus S which I am VERY familiar with (my Brother, Mom, Dad & Sister in Law own them) was not initially without its share of problems. I can almost guarantee you were not 1st in line when the Optimus S came out because if you were, you would know exactly what I am talking about. We are also discussing a phone (Optimus S) that has been out for over a year with tons of support from people & developers continuously coming up with ways to make that phone better. The tweaks & improvements that can be applied to that Optimus S as of today, are not at all close to what it was upon it's initial release. The Marquee has been out less than 1 month & as you even mention, has not been widely available in Sprint stores (although, my local Radio Shack & Best Buy has had it in stock from Day 1). My point is the Marquee is still a baby. I am sure in time the more people mess with it, more & more improvements will be found...
Listen, I may not be thrilled w/ Sprints new 14 day return window either, but complaining about it has nothing to do w/ this phone or its performance. So mentioning it in each of your posts seems irrelevant to me.
Although its true, I have not posted here frequently but as it was mentioned, I am very active in other forums. Regardless of my post count, I would hope my opinion has WAY more merit to someone considering buying this phone, since I actually OWN THE DEVICE (2 of them).
[mod edit - removal of provocative remark]

Ok, wanna shut me up on this issue? Post links to some of them, and I'll post links to the complaints. We'll see who has more. But it shouldn't matter, because the very fact that there ARE some to link to means that at least some folks have returned the phone due to legitimate problems. I'm not here to play "he said/she said".

Yes, but some devices more than others. Some devices, like the Sanyo Zio, were doomed from the start because of an underpowered GPU. And others, like the original Samsung Transform (not the new Ultra, which admittedly seems kind of nice), had performance problems that may have been driver related, however were never properly fixed. I followed that one for a while too.
While I can't vouch for the battery and other issues since I'm only basing that on complaints heard from people who returned (or tried to return) the device, I can tell you first hand that the Marquee was laggier than any of the other devices on display (which included other 3G devices in the same class, such as the Moto Admiral and XPRT). All running a stock launcher. And comparing to demonstrations of the Optimus Black, there is definitely a discrepancy here somewhere. Something went wrong because we know it COULD be better, even strictly speaking of stock experiences.

Again, be careful about what you assume.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...de-rooting-custom-roms-optimus-s-edition.html
I was, actually one of the early adopters of the Optimus S. We didn't have Clockwork mod or custom roms, or even JIT back then. I was a part of the scene for all of that, even contributed when I could to the collective. Do you know why I bought the Optimus back then versus the Transform?
Because it was smooth out of the box. Because without any tweaking, it had more FPS than the HTC EVO when conducting OpenGL 3D tests. Because LG did something right, and actually stood out as a smooth user experience.
Again, out of the box. No tweaking required. A stock Optimus S has much better performance than a stock Marquee, side by side. As well as just about any other device on display in the store that is a current generation handset.
Meanwhile, a better question to you in all this, is why do you feel the need to follow me around and post your personal vendetta against me in random threads across the internet?
Squirrel!
I have the Marquee and I am quite happy with it. My only complaint is the short battery life but a bit of tweaking should fix that. I received mine a few days after it was released.
I have a BS in computer science and quite a bit of experience with Android. Take it for what its worth

How did you fix the battery life? Mine drains like a mofo
Try the suggestions from here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...improve-your-battery-life-responsiveness.html
Using these suggestions, most of us see around 3% per hour drop in battery and see 18-24 hours of life with moderate use.
I would also recommend Juice Defender Ultimate from the market. A very worthwhile investment.
Also, one thing to keep in mind is that cell signal really impacts your life. If you spend most of your day in an area that has only one bar or intermittent signal, you are going to have a struggle to keep your Marquee alive.
I been obsessed lately, trying to find something that works with our new D4's. I flashed Arctic's VZW rom after rooting my phone and....it works! I have tested SMS/MMS, GPS and phone calls with no issue. The only think that i have noticed right off the bat is that the keyboard does not light up, which I am assuming is because the necessary drivers obviously were not in place for the Razr. With this being said, I would thikn CM7 as well as other Razr roms WILL work with our phones. I'm glad we have at least something now.....

I also flashed the Eclipse ROM for the Razr and that is working well also. Just follow the directions on skipping the Android initial setup.

If its anything like using the VZW 6.11.748 Razr Roms on 6.12.173 Razr then I believe enabling bluetooth will cause a reboot. Could you try that?
Also I am working with someone to bring Arctic to 2.3.6... it sounds like it would probably work better on D4 too.
You are 100% correct. Bluetooth causes a reboot. Seems to be a common problem. I am looking into it still and I edited my OP

This is because 2.3.6 introduced a new bluetooth, but the Rom is based on 2.3.5 that's why it won't work.
I am very interested in how this works out. The new EclipseRom and IC3Razr may work on it too... I will be trying them when I get my Droid 4 tomorrow (I hope)

No I can't because thats the only device I have to take video
I understand people being hesitant in trying this out but I would not waste anyone's time making up a lie that it works just to have people mess up their phone. No sir...I dont think until we get one specifically for our D4 are we gonna see that. It should just be a matter of a system file from our dump and throwin it in whatever rom we're using. The reason the Razr roms are working is because the hardware is identical with the exception of the display. The issues we are having with Bluetooth, Market and some other apps has nothing to do with the hardware of our devices. It's because most of the Razr roms were not created with the latest OS update , which all of the D4 owners have. My knowledge is limited with dev'ing but if anyone else wants to chime in on this, please feel fee....

I think its really important when you are working without the safety net of a full XML.zip restore file, that you make it very clear with extremely dire warnings that nobody should use these ROMs until there is a way to recover properly. Average users should NOT attempt this under any circumstances and by posting about it here, you need to be responsible because you will create a wave of bricked devices. This has already started, if you note the post in the main forum briteyes has bricked her phone loading this ROM.
I know this is a very unpopular opinion, but somebody has to come out and say it, sorry.

Very wise words cellzealot. I've seen to many people messing up their phones right now and not all of them were rom related, removed to much while getting rid of bloatware.
I'm holding off even rooting mine until there is rsd recovery files as a backup before I take the plunge. I know the rooting part is safe, just don't feel like unlocking the gates of trouble without a backup plan.
If it wasn't for people testing the limits, development would be a much slower process. I was one of the first to use the root, toy with freezing bloatware and test a bunch of the root-required apps. It is obvious that ROM flashing is a risky process, even with a restore, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be done.
I am also amused by how many people have said "I don't want to root until..." since the root has been entirely stable since day 1. If you can't trust yourself to be responsible with the root abilities, why even bother posting right now when everything is in the alpha stages for this phone since it came out less than 2 weeks ago.
This is the DEVELOPMENT forum... testing and risk are implied for anything that gets posted here.

The root is stable, but the people rooting are NOT.
You see the posts of people deleting their own /system/apps/ folder?
CellZealot is very right in what he saying and it did have to be said. Without fastboot files and heck even without a factory-style cable it is not safe to be a crack flasher on this device.

If they aren't somewhat knowledgeable with flashing roms or how the process works, they should read up before saying anything at all. This is all free and people put hard work into developing things. If you want a disclaimer, go to Best Buy.
now that we have safe strap i am getting bold.. about to flash over eclipse 1.3 and see what happens... hoping for the best!
Ok, I'm a pretty savvy guy as far as Android is concerned, normally, but being that our beloved AHD is so different, I'm having some trouble deciding whether to pull the trigger on some of our newest options as far as dev-work is concerned.
I know that Mattlgroff & Hashcode are 2 of the best known names in Motodev. Before the AHD, I had the (now) OG RAZR, but CWM was available as a custom recovery... I'm not used to SS, and I'm a little tentative to flash anything with some of the problems I've seen some have... To be honest, the only reason I came to the AHD is I lost my job a year ago, and haven't been able to find work outside of my fiancée's daycare. I CAN'T jack this phone up, cause I can't afford to replace it... I want mattlgroff's ROM, but with all the unfamiliar steps, I have to admit I'm a lil scurred... Lol.
Is there any chance someone could provide a step by step, "how to" coming from stock rooted to ROMified with links to correct backwards & forward files? Seems as though a lot of what's been posted assumes that you have knowledge of SS, and such, which I think many of us may not have...
Sorry to request such a FAQ, but it's possible that it could help a large number of those who are already having problems...

WAIT WAIT WAIT. Matt is making a flash-able rom right now so just be patient. lol I understand your concern being a college student so just be patient.
Flashable ROM is out now... WiFi not working yet but it runs just as good, maybe even better than before.

That pretty much sums it up. I have an LG Ignite AS855 which is physically identical to the Optimus Black, Marquee, etc. However, there seems to be absolutely NO development for this device. I've found out how to root this phone and have done that as well as getting rid of some stock bloatware. Also installed CWM and made a couple of backups.
I actually use a Galaxy S Showcase myself and this LG is my wife's phone.
Apparently there is enough difference between this device and the black as none of the Optimus Black ROMS will work.
So is there any hope for this device or am I just out of luck? I've searched most of the day on XDA as well as many other forums and Google to no avail. Surely as close as these two devices are someone has converted ROM's between them.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you all!

Anyone?
Not sure what to tell you. I'd think that the Marquee would be similar enough, but I'd only be guessing.
You've rooted it, de-bloated it, and are at a point to where you can tweak things. I think that's not too bad.
I've reached a point with the OB where I'm at a basic, custom GB ROM with as few thrills as possible. If I had to go to a stock, rooted GB, I'd be more than happy. The OB is a little long-in-the-tooth, and ROMs past GB aren't stable enough for my needs.
I would NEVER add an ICS or JB ROM on this phone FOR SOMEONE ELSE. Tearing the back off the case to pull the battery gets old. Your wife will hate you.
Was wondering how hard it would be to port it to our device if there are not much differences
I really hope some wonderful devs port Lollipop G3 ROM to our Device.

same here we definitely have a lack of support for our device
We can all become devs if our time allows.. I myself almost complie a cm11 til i find out there is some coding myself to make it work because is unofficial, but little by little im getting to the point that i feel i can contribute to the community, like i said is can be hard if you let it be.. There is alot info, forums and help from google and even cm itself... To start with i mean you have to have some knowledge and never giving up, at least is working for me

i hear you i tried a bunch of guides but i cant seem to pinpoint where im going wrong plus with the g3 leak of android 5 i wouldn't know where to start there are significant differences such as hardware and key components that need to be striped and customized to work with our device. for that we need the experience of a of senior lvl dev

I'm gonna help everyone out here. The G3 leak will not make it to our device. All the apps are made to work on that 2k even (i.e all the apps have huge images) every app would have to be decompiled individually and resized to fit our screen. Then they would have to be modded (depends on what needed done) to work on our phone. Way to much work and possibly not even possible with kernel, etc that would need done.
As for support unfortunately we dont have many devs due to just not being a popular device and the locked down boot loader. We lost D-FUSE and justinwidebody to the G3, we do have playfulgod who's okay (definitely joking) and i know mattwheat is working on some stuff. When i get time I'm going to get back to working on my g3 themed ROM (some apps already ported by another user just need tweaked), but sadly I'm far from a dev so I won't be much help with big problems like cm11.
I do recommend everyone just jumping in and doing what they can. I started with small theme changes moved to small mods following guides and eventually released my first ROM in the note 2. You really can learn and we'll need all the help we can plus most people here are pretty helpful if you get stuck.

Definitely hear you loud and clear that's was my first assumption but how would it be possible for the g2 to receive a complete port of the ROM from the G3 that cloudfy came out with the g2 has Noway near a the same specs as the g3. That's something that I thought about but even with that said wouldn't it still be possible to exclude the lg apps and just push out everything that is non compatible for our device. But I am still doing some research and learning along the way don't want to release anything until I have a full understanding of what I'm actually doing.

Looking at Cloudys threads i think it's their stock g2 ROM with the g3 apps ported. I'm saying that because all his ports use the same kernel. If it was really 3 different base ROMs that wouldn't work. I could be confused though and completely wrong. If that's the case then that's what I'm working in for us (or will if i ever get time. It won't be to the level of perfection his it's though. One thing to keep mind if that it's the case is its really hard to port apps from a higher version of android. I never said a full port was impossible, just that i highly doubt it happens. I'm pretty sure playfulgod isn't going to do it. I know I'm not even going to try. Not sure about matt or if there's adev hiding in the wings who may give it a go.

Is anybody here who can port G3 rom to G Flex?? anybody help us.
Kintwofan is right. If you're gonna port it needs to be a like brand, like resolution, like CPU / GPU. Makes it so much easier. Decompiling then recompiling and not finding out till its to late that something had an error when recompiling or when signing can be a ***** to find and or recover from late in the game. Or to find out all together that your hours on hours of hard work was for nothing. The g2 is more on our "like" side.

Plus if you're just wanting lollipop apks on your phone. Most google apks have already updated and if not you can always download the 5.0 gapps extract and replace some don't work but most do. I've done it and use the google launcher. Almost has an aosp feel.

Its easier to port g3 Roms to g2 due to all the the screen size (res folders). Going to our device with lower resolution and bigger screen seems like a lot of work. It would be much easier I think to get the android 5.0 SDK images and build aosp from source or wait on cm-12

Cool sounds like a good place to start but even if we do build a asop ROM wouldn't we need a base to get everything working
