We should ask Hell_97 who posted leaked V20o last time!
I wonder... what if LG's developers are following xda? And what if their software updates are just "inspired" (copied) from the work done here?
IF LG had any sense and they were checking out the xda Forums, they would fly Spica to Korea and give him a major contract.....

No disrespect to Temasek, he has fairly good general knowledge, but to be head of software department I think you should actually be a knowledgeable coder/dev.. To make KANGs and whatnot you don't really need coding skills, just the knowhow of some linux, really. It's writing code that's hard, and with that I mean really hard, atleast for me so RC and spica deserves very much our love, even LG's love for making this phone what it is..
Ofc I don't say you aren't good for the community Temasek, becouse you are (and you save me lot of trouble compiling CM for myself, which is very much appreciated), I just want people to understand who really are devs around here. Hope you don't take it the wrong way.
So what we should do then is assemble a 'Dream Team' and send LG their names. If LG matched up the quality of their software to their hardware then they would become a truly major player.
Otherwise LG will always remain an 'also ran'....
Whenever I upgrade next I will ensure that the brand has a history of regular updates and early release of drivers, source code, etc. It's priority #1 for choosing a new smartphone, over raw hardware specs....

Not sure if everyone here has heard the news from Google's I/O, but they have announced that Google is setting a guideline for updates to phones, and many companies have agreed to give timely updates to their phones for at least 18 months from release.
LG is one of them so this is good news and will most likely mean that our phones will live to see an official Ice Cream Sandwich build
I would be getting it from CM regardless
Does anyone know whether this agreement is retroactive though? Might not include the *2X
First, LG agreed to that terms AFTER the O2X release, so that phone isn't concerned.
Second, they add "if hardware can follow", which is the magical sentence for manufacturer to explain why, finally there will be no update (even if that's total bullsh*t).
Bottom line is, nothing new, still the same.
But, it doen't mean we won't have ice cream Sandwich either
Let's hope for it.
Even though the news are good, Google making some pressure to manufacturers develop android updates, thing is that ice cream is said by Google to be released Q4 2011...hmph, how long for LG2X to have IC? Q2 2012?

It's not so stupid because this could be the excuse for LG to decide to stop ice cream on the 2x like they did with optimus chic: the 01 will be upgraded to gingerbread while the chic (that has similar hardware) will not. It's just commercial strategy.

I'm a CM7 user as well, coming from Nexus S to Optimus 2x and I would say the same only after we got a stable mod. I'm using Nightly #23 right now and it's great... but far from a beast ATM. Let's remember about bluetooth audio problems, no HDMI, 1080p video recording or FM Radio for instance. Nightly CM7 it's already great, but there's a lot of little things to be fixed.
Unexperienced users should keep away for now, is called Nightly and experimental version after-all.
There is HDMI out
I would like to see how my x2 will run with Gingerbread, does any one no when we will be able to update to this? Also will Gingerbread allow the use of dual core?
Many thanks
First of all, the kernel used in Froyo for the 2X/G2X is supporting dual-core. But of course, Gingerbread may make better use of dual-core. But again, both cores are used at the moment on both the 2X and the G2X.
Secondly, T-Mobile wrote on Twitter that Gingerbread was not close away for the G2X. I think it will be released by the end of this month. But it is just a guess.
For the 2X, LG have reported a release in either june or july.

Wrong section - stop replying people, thread needs to die.
Why is there yet another thread about this???
We all know it was delayed, and I think more and more people know it won't come at all.
I got 2 email replies from LG. The first one said the update will come after summer for sure. The second one said there is no precise date for the update, not even after summer.
So to sum up:
n°1 LG is telling us all to go **** ourselves on this one
n°2 It's useless to open a new thread every time LG tells us to go **** ourselves
n°3 LG is ****ing ****
Froyo -> Gingerbread upgrade is not all that big. Most of you won't even know its running gingerbread vs froyo. Not sure what the big deal is.
its not about the software update, we have CM7 for that.
Its about the kernel update that we want from gingerbread.
And also, are you kidding? "most of you want know the difference" ? where do you think you are? this is XDA why do you think where here?

Pretty sure most of the people *****ing about it want it for the sake of having the number "2.3" written on the version screen as oppose to "2.2.2". What will gingerbread let you do that you can't do now?
If you're having issues with the phone (reboots/freezes etc) then fair enough otherwise just chill. It's just a phone.
I had a HTC Legend before Optimus 2X. And when the stable cm7 rom was running in my phone it was WAY faster then with any stable custom Froyo-rom. And 2.3 looks very nice. 2.3 also has the Screen-off animation, and a function to select text in messages and on webpages to easier copy, edit or delete parts.
Thats what I can remember I miss atm..

I almost agree.... cm7 rocks and no point at all using standard rom however the battery aint so bad is it? I manage live wallpaper, fair usage on wifi, 3g and 3 hours a day audiobook ( yes works tough going lol )baseband/rij 725 and she lasts a day no problem ........ if you think thats bad you should try my wifes iphone 3gs!!!
edit:- lcd brightness is also up full tilt
edit again.... why doesnt lg/htc/etc etc hire the cm devs? as far as im aware they dont get paid much if anything other than the odd donation and a new phone here and there for a hell of a lot of work.... surely if anyone should be doing the official roms its people like them who love their work?
Ok....it was really weirding me out that this hasn't been posted yet and I was assuming nobody had anything against posting about it, so here.

Agreed. I put it on the N1 and... Bleh. No major improvements, a few bugs I didn't have stock. I don't get all the hype, unless it's just about removing bloatware and such...which obviously wasn't an issue on the N1. So far I'm loving Ken's Alien #2, but I'm definitely tempted to try Cherry Pi.

Motorola takes the source and adds Blur. Then they add AT&T cap to it. HTC does this with Sense. Samsung does it with TouchWhiz. Source is just plain, stock Android, like you'd find on a Nexus device. It makes it a lot easier for a dev to add/tweak/optimize, because you aren't having to worry about how removing Moto's messaging app breaks wifi and causes pimples.
At least, that's my "I'm not a dev, but I play one on tv" understanding.

If you've never compiled a kernel before its kind of hard to imagine, but the scope of choices available to you are ...really massive.
We have to accept kernels from Motorola which they believe is best, or perhaps they have decided to do knowing its not best (for limitation features, carrier requests, etc.)
On top of the kernel is a lot of layers also, with decisions and configurations in each area customized to the nth degree by each hand that touches it and each revision is done. Everything from the default ring tone and boot screen to the default GPS server used for looking up GPS data.
The ROM developers are able to work around, and modify a lot of things, but having the source means they can work it from 'the ground up' in their own image, removing things that have been added without merit (such as BLUR) or moving the whole thing in a new direction.
As stated at the top, if you've never compiled a kernel its kind of hard to explain but I hope that gives you some idea of the scope of what goes into 'making your phone go'.
Folks, try to keep it clean and let's stay on topic. Don't post for the sake of posting, only post if you have something important to share.
Thanks!

The kernel doesn't necessarily change all that much sometimes, so progress isn't really lost. Even still the changes can be reworked to the new source.

Yeah he said that, I think he wants to know if this may set them back...
I can't see how this could. They will just go compare what they did with the source and see if they need to make changes, and it will make the rest of it go faster. They had source for a similar device they were working off of. This will help tremendously I'm sure.

I've had my G2 for a couple of weeks. It's a great device (but you already know this .)
The G2 forums are, as one would expect, quite busy so just do what you did in these forums when you first joined; watch and learn. There's a lot of good info, although, in my opinion, too many (already answered!) questions from n00bs who are too lazy to read and search for themselves.
If you find it to a be a case of 'information overload', just type your question with the keywords 'XDA' and 'G2' into our good friend Google and it should find exactly what you're looking for.
I've found Temasek's (unofficial) CM11 for G2 (in the 'Original Android Development' forum) to be an excellent ROM but there's so much new stuff nearly every day, the first thing you should do is root and install a custom recovery, then go ahead and flash away!
Remember: Google.

No. The ROM is built and maintained by someone else. I'm running CloudyStock 1.3 right now. LG did a good job with the G2.
Enjoy your new toy!

I don't think so. They have root and recovery for every version of android including 4.4 KK. So installing anything shouldn't be an issue. And also, Moderator SREEPRAJAY owns the phone. You can ask him for more info.
dear @SREEPRAJAY - what's your 2cents on this topic?

GO FOR G(2)OLD and you wont regret
PM me if you want any other stuff....
Who needs a g2, if you have a 2x:laugh:
For any left 2X owners, if you want the smoothest possible and most trouble free stock experience, try Djangomanouche 1.6.5 ROM. For me it was the most stable and always returned to it after experimentations.
BTW why a 2X? Given the improvement of the apps, it can run almost one at a time nowadays with only ~350MB of useful amount of RAM.
BTW2 very very tough phone, it survived a road accident which bent it in half. It was alive again with just a screen and a digitizer (70E cost).
