Never heard of modaco before. Are his ROMs good?

I was initially wondering if I should get this device as it seems like there is lack of developers' support.
With support from paul, I am sure we can get a satisfactory custom rom.
Looks like I can order mine now.

Yeah Paul at Modaco is talented.... I have used his custom ROMs before on my Hero, must say i was very impressed! Hope the VillainROM team also get involved with this phone!

He has also done some excellent work on the Nexus 1. He was the first to bring out a Sense Rom for it.

Yeah ive been using VillainRom for my Hero for over a year now still keeps up with my girlfriends "stock" SGS! Pulser is the man, hes been saying how he doesnt like LG based on previous phones etc.... but i just hope he see's sense and starts developing for this monstor!

Personally the LG 2X is the only interesting phone which is coming out now.
Galaxy S II -- too big
Desire S -- lol
Only the Motorola Atrix might be interesting as well, but the 2X seems to have better materials used.
With Paul on the phone, i'm sure the phone will get a great dev phone and a lot of custom roms.. (ok, i only hope..)
Just waiting for the first Gingerbread 2.3 ROM running on the 2X and i'll get one.

i tested the sgs2 at the cebit few days ago and i was shocked how laggy this thing was.
maybe samsung will fix it until the official release but after that experience i'm 100% going with the optimus2x

Also thought long about that, and chose the O2X.
As you say:
SGS2 - too big
Desire S - with dual-core would be cool, but isn't
Atrix - locked bootloader is a shame
Just hope that community support will bring O2X long life!

i just got mine LG Optimus 2x and WAUW!!!
LG has done a really good job, I'm so impressed with the speed of this device - no buggyness and no laggyness
The stock is very nice although it's 2.2.1..
But I want custom ROMs NOW!!!

Paul, with the Acer Liquid, buyed it and selled it like a month later for a nexus one (if I remember well). So we must "pray" that he will not buy a Galaxy S2 or something as soon as it comes available

deovferreira is defer (member of FreeXperia Team & contributor to CyanogenMod) so if he is posting a video abt CM7 on Xperia Pro it means that the device will very soon get a CM7 release...

That's great!!! I can't wait to get CM7 on here. The phone is actually pretty good at default, but I miss CM7 a lot (Old phone was a Milestone running CM7).

+1 I really don't understand why it takes so long to create new forums, but hey ho.

This video makes it look like that xperia pro comes loaded with cm7

SE has learned from past errors, and the stock Gingerbread firmware is great, but I used CM7 on my old X10 Mini Pro, and I like it most because it's more customizable.
When will this CM7 will be available for Xperia Pro? I'll be waiting
I also think we Xperia Pro users need a forum(or at least a subforum inside Neo), but in the while, we have to use other fourms

Not to be bothersome, but any ETA on when you'll be issuing a public release? I can'r wait for CM7 on my Pro!

To elaborate...they did release CM7 for the Pro....2.5 weeks ago.
I've been running it for the past week and there are some minor issues like the hardware keyboard's alt-character keys not being mapped properly, but it's still a great piece of work!
So pull that trigger on the ebay auction

I'm confused... is this a CyanogenMod port for the Pro? I was hoping for "official" support, i.e. with nightlies and so on

if you are looking for that, then no, not yet. but we put it on our phone so that we can feedback to the developers on issues and other things. this "beta" will help the version to progress to the official port. mine have been running for 3 weeks and all seem good.

Any idea why the Pro was left out? The other Xperias all seem to be listed on the Cyanogenmod page... making me nervous

Very simple. Pro is the latest device which arrived. I personally like it very much. But the Pro was the latest device we received, so we have still some issues to work out before we pull the trigger on CM-Server. Also it is still not available in many shops for example. Here in Germany it's hard to find (except online) and because of that it's not very popilar now. Release was only a few weks ago, a little patience please here
At all the device is ready on github/cyanogen, it's named iyokan.
No need to worry, let us workout the latest problems and it will be included in official CM soon.

Search the arc forum for "PRO" threads. there's two actively developed Cyanogen mods (CM7 and CM9). i've been running CM9 for a few weeks now. it's pretty solid.

No disrespect to Temasek, he has fairly good general knowledge, but to be head of software department I think you should actually be a knowledgeable coder/dev.. To make KANGs and whatnot you don't really need coding skills, just the knowhow of some linux, really. It's writing code that's hard, and with that I mean really hard, atleast for me so RC and spica deserves very much our love, even LG's love for making this phone what it is..
Ofc I don't say you aren't good for the community Temasek, becouse you are (and you save me lot of trouble compiling CM for myself, which is very much appreciated), I just want people to understand who really are devs around here. Hope you don't take it the wrong way.

So what we should do then is assemble a 'Dream Team' and send LG their names. If LG matched up the quality of their software to their hardware then they would become a truly major player.
Otherwise LG will always remain an 'also ran'....
Whenever I upgrade next I will ensure that the brand has a history of regular updates and early release of drivers, source code, etc. It's priority #1 for choosing a new smartphone, over raw hardware specs....

[Q] LG Optimus 2x Vs Samsung Galaxy S Plus

Hi!
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S Plus and im thinking of selling it and purchase a LG Optimus 2x.... would it be a good decission?
Pros I see in SGS+ is really good screen and maybe a bit better quadrant results
Cons: Not that big community, no 4.0 support, no CM or MIUI support
I want to see your opinions since i still can get a great deal for my SGS+ and use that money for changing to LG2x.....
Which are the quadrant and antutu results for this phone? Would this be a good change?

And yes, like he said, that thread has it all answered (as it was me that posed that same question). And I must say I don't regret going for the O2X not one bit, it has been impressing me everyday. And it's funny actually, I don't have ANY of the problems people mention here in the forums. No random reboots, battery life is good, everything's great

The Galaxy S+ is a single core, on the contrary the o2x is a dualcore...no chance for the sgs+...the sgs has also a no-flash 5mpx hd camera, the o2x has a 8mpx full hd camera with led flash....
Cons of the o2x: bad stock firmwares by lg (it has a lot of bugs), but just flash cyanogenmod 7 and the phones becomes speedy and pretty stable...
The o2x will be updated to ICS, instead of the sgs+....
Who is the winner?

Agreed with this one. I already had Acer Iconia A500 and amazed with its speed. O2X has the same muscle with Iconia (dual-core Tegra 2) so didin't have any doubt about performance. And it proved.
The only cons is the LG's lack of software support. Thankfully, lots of alternative ROMs are available!

I bought a LG O2x and gave the SGS+ to my wife... i hope i made the right decision (she needed a new phone anyway and is not interested in modding or flashing roms...)

More functional? I don't think that. The CM settings are very impressive, and rich in function. The CM7 is much better from every aspect.

After several never-again-Lg-threads it's time to say thank you to lg! The p990 is my first android device. And I really appreciate Lg didn't provide updates! Without Lg I would not understand my phone as good as today.
The total lack of support teached me...
- difference between baseband, ril and rom
- how to root
- how to install cwm
- how to install roms
- how to switch baseband
- difference between smartflash, nvflash and cwm
- how to use terminal emulator
- basic linux knowledge

I got all these from the HD2, except for fastboot and terminal emulator which I only used in the One X, I guess though that the 2x is a really good device and indeed the lack of support from Lg really pushes the user to go the extra mile to get the full potential out of his phone, and the good thing is that ours now is beginning anew with ics and cm10 fully functional around the corner.

I know what you mean and I actually bought the phone having some idea that this would happen, though I wasn't quite aware how bad their support really would be.
But I have learned quite a bit of basic stuff and all the Devs here really do deserve a lot of thanks and support.
I even feel a bit inspired to try to learn more, starting with a lil project http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971645

At the same time, its not LGs job to teach you all that. If youre just a normal consumer, you wouldnt worry about knowing what is rooting or flashing roms. O2X is my first Android phone coming from Symbian Nokia. Thanks to this beautiful community I learnt as well many things and I must say I had some panic attacks in my beginnings lol, fearing to brick it... Rooting was the most important for me I think so I could use TB to remove crap apps, freeze...
Anyway I'm glad I turned to Samsung. It requires money or a good deal yea but if you can afford it, you wont be disappointed. Sure this is nearly 2 years later and technologies really improved but I think its really more superior than LG. I dont even have to talk about update process its obviously not comparable. Cmon Galaxy S2 has official 4.1.2 !
I dont feel the need to get updates anymore because its smooth and everything works perfectly. As long as they keep promises that they make (meaning releasing things on time) its fine.

Anyways, I really feel happy with my Phone for the first time these almost 2 years that I am strugling with it, and I feel that my Thanks is only due to this awesome community, who didnt let our phone vanish in the oblivion.
