I just bought a used galaxy S, I think something's wrong with this phone, I am having horrible battery life, 100% battery drains in a few hours, on standby! ..battery is even draining while phone is off... I had over 75% battery at night, I turned off my phone, and slept... woke up to find 0% battery..
Anyone else experienced this ?? Any suggestion how to fix?? I had stock 2.3.3 rom, then I flashed stock 2.3.6, now I am using GamerzRom.. I had same issue on all three roms..is it hardware problem?
from my experient , 2.3.3 have a big probleme with battery drain , try 2.3.4 JVR STOCK or 2.3.6 jvz stock , but without root , or flashing a roms(GAMEROMS, on its rom , the processor are overclock at 1.2 gbz , and battery is discharging more faster) ,and after put 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 , make a factory reset and wipe cache

So the battery is draining with the phone off..... Is it draining if you remove it from the phone? Charge to full, remove for a few hours and then check.
Then check accessories section for advice on a replacement battery.

Last night I left the phone off, after removing the battery, it didn't drain at all, but obviously it wasn't in the phone.
And I had a different battery before, this is the other battery I got from the shopkeeper as replacement, its original battery of galaxy S but not new, more than a year old...
I am wondering if my battery is faulty or phone?
Have you checked the battery pins?

Two pins are normal, one pin is a bit pressed..somewhat
I think your battery is dead. There is no way a Galaxy S with Stock ROM drains 75% over 8-10 hours of standby.
Was 3G on when you went to bed, bluetooth, GPS Etc? If so, THEN I'm not supprised.

I agree. Change the battery then try again
I did try another battery, both batteries were in good condition, probably Galaxy S had some problem, I returned it to shop...

Hi Guys!!
i've done what this link told
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10092321&postcount=11053
but everytime i reach 100% and unplug the charger, my battery percentage immediately shows 97%, be it charging with the phone off or on....
i already did wipe my battery stats in recovery a few times, the first time only it showed that the stats were wiped, after that every time i wipe the stats, it immediately goes back to the previous menu, without stating whether the wipe was carried out or not....
can someone help this noob out here.... thnx
FYI, i just installed darky's rom v8.0 with Voodoo's kernel 5.2(lagfix disabled)
when i was on stock, my 100% could last me about nearly half an hour
I have this problem too. (I am on Darky 9.02 and have seen it in Darky 8.0 too). BUT if your battery life is satisfactory then don't worry about it.
hows the performance on v9.02 bro?

9.02 is good but then so was 8.00. I personally think 8.00 was faster but its only been a few days and am still experimenting. I may remove the lag fix and still need to see if my battery is draining faster.
Also look at this post: Has some interesting but unverified info about the drop from 100% to 97/98% after unplugging

Do you really want it on 100%? Easy, once it says charged, leave it on the charger for another hour and when you unplugged it should stay 100 for a while

Problem posted hundreds of times along with solutions like search the Rom makers forum and read the posts re this problem for starters .
Simple solution save time and effort is to ignore it .

thanx all for the advices.... tried the QueenAmy method, result is:
heavily used phone: battery 'died' at 2%(???)
charged phone until 100%(phone off)
switched phone on while still charging: 97% (didnt have to unplug charger)
waited...then it went from 97% straight to 100%.(funny)
then went into recovery to wipe bat stats.
rebooted and unplugged charger, battery still at 97%....
now trying to charge a bit more longer to see if can change anything... (fingers crossed)

not working bro...
left it on for about an hour, unplugged, straightaway the percentage drops to 98...
It's just a change in 2.2.1.
In 2.1/2.2, they 'stretched' out the battery life a bit to mark it up to 100%, in 2.2.1 they decided to just show it at the actual value. The reason your battery won't charge to 100% is to prolong the battery life, because if the charger always charged to 100% it would have a high chance of overcharging and damaging your battery over time.
There's no real change in battery life.
I reverted back to 2.2 and still have the problem. Maybe i shouldve flashed on 100% battery... Is it possible to solve if i do another fresh flash with 100% battery?

Just to clarify this, you actually cant over charge the battery on the SGS nor Li-Ion for that matter, what happens here is that the battery goes on trickle charge pre 2.2.1 and battery degrades faster if its kept at 100%, 40% is optimal for storage now with the recent changes the phone will pretend it has charged upto 100% but will stop anywhere from 99~97% yes there is no loss in battery life but dont consider 97% as the new 100%, theres already a 3% loss in this to begin with.

thnx mate.... i guess i'll just have to chill about this....n stop wasting my time right... ;-)
hello,
i've had my SGS for a little over a week now. from day one i noticed battery drain but i thought it was normal for a new device. i flashed darky's 10.1 extreme on the second day i got it because it was very slow and had a lot of bloatware ( i wasnt very patient and i flashed at 95% or 96% battery), the drain was still there. i let it go through a few recharge discharge cycles and no improvement, so i used an app from the market called "batterycalibration" by marosige, no improvement and it the reading would drop to 99% or 98% after taking it off the charger.
i did a little digging and discovered i had the android os bug (was over 50% usage usually) so i used titanium to wipe software update and samsung account, and froze the first, didnt help by much
i then flashed darky's again at 100%, and now it still reads full charge after removing charger and android os bug i gone (reads 4% system and 4% os), but drain was still there. i emptied it to the point it couldnt turn on anymore then charged it from wall charger while turned off to 100% while i slept
i woke up and tested it by playing a game (Blastmonkeys) for like 20 mins and the battery went down to 90%, that was less than 2 hours ago, and now its at 87% and it was completely idle
notes:
my brightness is turned all the way down with no animations but display reads 54%, wifi is usually on when im home but battery stats show 6% wifi so i dont think its a big problem
also, the device was bought locked in france by someone else and im in egypt, so i dont know anything about warranty..
im sorry for the long post but i tried to be as detailed as possible...
hello, when i upgraded my sgs to 2.3.3 i also got battery drain and android os was consuming hell lot of cpu about 70%,..,.,then i flashed 2.3.4 jvp i didnt get any battery drain in that firmware then i upgraded it to 2.3.4 jvq this also donot have ny battery drain..,,.i recommend u to flash it and try it once
will try, but isnt darky only compatible with JVH? what happens if i change to JVQ?

see jvp and jvq are bug fixing firmwares and i didnt use any custom rom ,..,i have stock firmware which i just rooted and didnt use any mod or rom.,,.,.jvp and jvq are stable roms diffrence between the both is that in jvq browser is improved gallery improvement,.,..,etc
As far as I know, the percentage not being 100% after unplugging is normal. To prevent wear on the battery, the phone cuts the charger after reaching 100%, and restarts charging when it reaches ~95%.
I don't think a 3% drop in battery over 2 hours is uncommon. Wifi and data connection will pull a lot of power if on, even in standby.

Normal, this phone drains about 20% battery per hour of screen use, slightly less when watching video.
2-3% drain over 2 hours is also pretty normal if you have wifi/sync on.

I just got my SIM card replaced today. The one I had used before was about 12 years old. So whenever you-re having battery issues, make sure your SIM card is not the cause for it .
I am experiencing an extreme battery drain with ALL the roms i tried.
The battery lasts maximally 5h, with 20-40mins of 3g browsing.
Currently at 38%, display max brightness, 2h 12mins usage,78% in battery use / Opera Mobile usage 22 m
ins, 9% in battery use.
13h since last recharge (i went to sleep).
Also my battery magically charges itself while on standby, up to 4% per hour.
Im pretty sure my battery is calibrated, even if it isnt it would give me the same power.
Also it heats up to 59c (even when i wasnt on 1.2GHz kernel)
I think u need a new batt. Same thing was happening with the iphone and untill i've replaced the bat the same thing happened.
.
Thought so.
Will flash stock 2.3.5 or should i flash 2.3.3, which is the latest official for my network?
I think it doesnt matter...
Well the guys in the service are a$$es so it will take them about 2 weeks for it...
i'm not sure tere is such thing as stock 2.3.5 and i think only MIUI has this. Last is 2.3.4 but i might be wrong.
There is xxjvs that is a 2.3.5 firmware
No your battery isnt wrecked neither magic took place its just that ypur battery stats are messed up!
Fixing them-fully recharge your battery until it shows 100% then switch your phone off and then let it charge for another 1 minute then go to recovery mode( you have cwm recovery right?) Then go to advamced then delete battery stats from their and reboot your phone ! Then for best result ypu can fully drain your battery to nil unt it switches off! Your battery stats should be now fully fixed ! Dont worry for deleting battery stats system will make them again in a few minutes or on a reboot !

guys.. please HELP mee.. i will be THANKful to each replier..
i have a samsung galaxy mini s5570 which i bought 6 months ago.. it had android 2.2.1 froyo preinstalled on it. during the first 3 months, i got pretty good battery life around 8-9 hours. i used only JUICE DEFENDER. and at dat tym, my phone wasnt rooted or anything. :O
then, the official update for s5570 was launched in India and i soon got my phone upgraded. also, i rooted it and tried various roms and all. but now, my battery LIFE has become really bad.. the battery gets empty within 3 hours of moderate use after i charge it to 100%.. :-(
even if you cant solve the problem, can anyone tell what exactly is the problem? IF I BUY A NEW BATTERY, will the PROBLEM be solved?? i now hav the STOCK ROM OF GB installed currently..
When you're not using your phone or when you don't need it, leave G3, wifi and GPS offline.
That should have a very good response to your battery life.
However, if the battery life keeps being that bad, the battery might have developed faults, in which case you can bring it in to the shop and they'll look into it.
it's true that gb uses more battery than froyo but after all that battery remains for about 7-8 hours in moderate use
I think you need to calibrate your battery.
Or, try this:
1. charge your phone when it's on, until the battery shows 100%.
2. turn off your phone and charge it again until the battery shows 100%.
3. unplug your chager for about 15 seconds and charge it again (phone still off) until the battery shows 100%.
4. turn on your phone.
this way, I got battery life better. And I found that sometimes it's the battery indicator which went wrong.
hopee ur idea works...

My ace's battery is not even lasting half day even with no major use. (Just some calls). Using code *#*#4636#*#* mentioned in one of the post here i checked for my battery health. The health is good but the battery voltage is shown as 3.0V . I suppose it is 5.0V for Ace.
Is my battery faulty ? or there is some other problem? Also please suggest any way to find the correct battery health.
I am currently using official Gingerbread 2.3.6. Thanks in advance
I had even weirder situation, when my battery would drain minutes after charging.
I tried every battery calibration, saver whatnot but it didn't help.
So i wen't and bought a new one, and voila, my problems were solved
It seems that batteries don't last that long as they used to...
