[Q] Screen density and the S-Memo app - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've set my Note to 240 density but find that the S-Memo page is now the size of a tiny post-it. Is this something you have to live with or is there a way of increasing the size of the memo page?
Cheers for any feedback.

I'm afraid it is too late for me to search, but there is a post in the 'themes & apps' forum about a customised apk to handle this.
Frankly I gave up with changing the DPI as most apps were impossible to install on the Market. I gather I may be able to fix that, but life is a little too short.

In order not to have compatibility problem with market apps your DPI needs to be one of those officially supported by Android:
320,240,160...

If you're at 240 dpi, then there should be no problem installing apps from the market at all. I use the memo apk from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20803605&postcount=41 as it works with the later roms in particular.

Interesting Android App

An interesting (and incredibly useful) idea would be a simple app to toggle screen resolutions and lcd densities. This would alow you to run 90% of your stuff at the Kaiser native 240 x 320 lcd density 120 and toggle to something better to run apps or games that require the andoird native resolution to show the whole screen. Not sure if this would be a simple app to write or if it would be very difficult to do...I'm not a programer...just an observer, but this sort of app would be useful across ALL builds of android.
I'm pretty sure this isn't possible. Someone else could confirm that.

I have two HaRET-startupfiles, one with QVGA and one with the resolution from the G1. But switching needs a restart.
Does anyone know how to change resolution in Android manually? Maybe we could make a simple shell script.
Well, if you're using a Kaiser, the fact that it's determined by your default.txt/startup.txt is exactly why you need to reboot - because they're already determined before booting up (that is, each time you boot Android, it looks at what resolution to use). Because it's being determined there, you can't change it while it's booted up. I don't know if it would be possible to have the resolution be determined somewhere else, but that's the way it is at least for now.

Unfamous Apps which deserves heads up..

Guys
Browsing market and hunting apps is a hobby of mine.
I want to share some of them i find very useful.
You might know them or not..
Dice player-Paid
Very smooth and plays everything. Xvid, Divx, Mkv, wmv, everything. With ES File Explorer Lan mode it plays network video files without downloading.
Better Cut-Free at market
Creates shortcuts at homescreen with custom names but most importantly custom icons from various file types WITHOUT shrinking them smaller then original icon size.
Multiling Keyboard-Free at market
Amazing keyboard with almost every language support and handwriting. It even supports split keyboard mode and lots of themes. Typo check etc, etc.
Set Dns-Free at market
I mentioned about this before. A tiny app for setting your DNS proxy. Super easy to use.
LCD Density-Free at market
Changes the resolution of your xoom (and other android devices).
I dont know what is my resolution now. Defoult is 160, mine is 140. I tried as low as 130 and it still works but i liked 140 better. Works without any performance or any other problems so far. Lots of extra screen estate. ( if you created shortcuts with Better Cut before bumping up the res, those shortcuts stays at the same size but names get cropped at bottom. Renewing the shortcuts solves the problem)
App Backup & Restore-Free at market
I have problems with Titanium. When i backup with titanium, after wipes Titanium cant restore my apps. Data yes.. Apps no. I dont know why.
So i find this one. It backups all apps and restores them without a problem.
Then i use Titanium for restoring the app data and xoom goes just like before the wipe.
Thats about it for now.
I avoided to mention about the "famous" ones and tried to underline the ones i didnt heard about anywhere.
I hope it helps someone
Thanks! Installed multiling keyboard and seems pretty nice! Like being able to change keyboard size, theme, etc. Handwriting recognition looks promising. Will need to check it out more!
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
Thanks for the info
Can't find better cut in the market. Can you post a direct link?

Because the app was pulled, if it's not hosted on the developer's site or an officially endorsed mirror, it constitutes warez.

Q Are Market Place Apps being taken away??

A lot of apps that i could download are no longer available on the market.
For example the game "spades" shows up but no download button appears. I could download that app before as well as many others. But when I wiped my nook those apps were not downloadable from the marketplace. So i use my phone to download them and then put them on my nook.
Is there a fix for this?
Assuming that you are rooted, it depends on what you are running.
If you are on rooted stock 1.3, there is no known fix for the missing Market Apps (or missing Install button).
If you are on CM7, there are ways to get the Market to show the missing Apps by adjusting the LCD density. There are differences of opinion as to whether this fix is temporary or permanent.
Search a little and you will find a number of theads discussing this issue.

resolution and market

i know this might have been posted yet but i haven't found anything about it...
i noticed that when you change the dpi on the tab, some apps in the market tend to tell you that you device is not compatible. any ideas on how to get by this? i mean i dig the wipping market and all then rebooting but it's kind of a hassle... any ideas?
You need to set your dpi to the values accepted by Market, i.e. 128, 160 or 240.

[Q] Sideloading Games Into Proper Category + HD Icons

My KFHD7 isn't rooted, but I've sideloaded a few games onto the device that are appearing under the "Apps" category. Is there a way to make the game apps show up under the "Games" category?
In addition, some (if not all) apps that I sideload have low quality icons. Any way to increase the quality so that they're not so fuzzy on the carousel?
[Edit] I have found a thread that answers this question. It's available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495854
Many thanks in advanced!

I would also love to know how to make this happen. I'm clueless as to how they are flagging the apps as games but the icons shouldn't be that hard... right?
I stumbled upon a guide that allows modification of the APK icons. I've edited the OP to include the link to those who find it useful.
Want to know make this possible too.
Did anyone work out how to do this?
APK Icon Editor
If you want to change Android app icons, check out this APK editor: APK Icon Editor
It also supports Kindle Fire devices.
