problem with ram - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello ..
i have make 2 times full wipe to my note and now i see ram from 800 to 797 ..is this normal ;
first full wipe i have ram from 800 to 798 and at the second 797
can i fix it ;
thanks

I think it's normal, because the galaxy note has a lot of features, espacially the samsung keyboard (including s-pen recognition) while sometimes use about ~90 mb ram.
You can try to kill some unused apps (like facebook) in Settings --> Applications --> Running
You can also clear the ram in the task manager, but it's not recommend.

u dont understand .the ram is 800 and now is 797 ,this is the final ram i have ..this not the ram that use the phone ,do u know how to get it at 800 mb ;

it depends on if you have changed the kernel

This is not normal.. i have done wipe several times but the total RAM was 800 always. but in your case something is wrong. try flashing Stock ROM. it should show 800 MB of Total RAM.

Mine shows 799 mb with LA1 stock

O/Cing and Uvolting using KANG BUILD P204-54

Apologies if this post is in the wrong forum. I don't have sufficient posts under my account I can't as yet post under the developer (ROM) thread.
I've just installed the CM7 Kang Build P204-54 on my Optimus 2X.
I notice that the overclocking and undervolting is not available under the Cyanogen, Performance, CPU settings. Basically no values show up under Min and Max frequency.
Is this a limitation on the kernel that has been used in this ROM?
If so what should I do in order to gain this feature. I would like very much to undervolt and overclock the CPU to extend the battery life and get better performance.
Temaseks P204-54 comes with stock kernel which doesn't allow you to OC or UV using CM settings. Therefore you need to install a custom kernel like IronKernel or ETaNa Kernel, which allows you to OC to 1.5 Ghz and 1.4 Ghz respectively.
Also you can't UV using CM settings, you should use a third party app for that like Pimp My CPU, or SetCPU.
Thanks for the info.
I've been looking at the Eterna Kernel. What does the RAM hack value mean?
Also will I lose any data/settings, or should I do a backup before flashing?

The different Ram hack values means the amount of extra ram that will be available on your phone. The phone uses the extra ram from the GPU, so that means the bigger the Ramhack, more things don't work. More info can be found in the original thread of course.
Normally, when you flash a kernel you need to wipe cache and dalvik, however ETaNa Kernel will do this automatically for you in its install script, so there's no need for a wipe with this kernel. Therefore you won't lose your data, however making a nandroid backup is never a bad idea.
Vadonkas kernel runs very well. With 32 MB RAM hack almost everything is working but mostly reboot issues. There's also a 32 MB with shared memory but this can have strange behavior. Read the thread, a lot of info.
A little advice...don't set ramhack values...it gives only problems...if you wanna more ram, you can "virtually" add it with compcache in cyanogenmod performance settings

Well 32MB Ramhack works fine for me. No problems whatsoever, only reboot doesn't work but that's easily manageable by pressing the power button another time when you want to power up the phone. It's true that with a bigger Ramhack, more things won't work... But besides that it doesn't cause much problems. Obviously it's your choice if you want a big Ramhack.
By the way: there is also a no-Ramhack version of ETaNa Kernel, so you might wanna consider that.
Is the native O2X RAM so low that the phone gets RAM starved? Is the extra RAM a good thing to have?
If not is there any disadvantage is downloading the 0MB RAMhack version and then going with markop90's suggestion of virtually adding extra RAM (if needed) using the CM performance settings?

The O2X has 512 MB Ram, and about 300 MB is available for the apps etc. Most of the time there's only about 100-150 MB free RAM on your phone. In my opinion this is too low, so I chose for a 32MB Ramhack. Now I've always 100+ MB Ram available. So in my case it's a good thing to have.
There are no advantages whatsoever with the 0MB version. Everything works fine and there's no extra ram added.
There are also no disadvantages with enabling compcache I believe, as said before this creates more ram when you need it. (I also have this enabled)
I'm running the 0 ram hack version here and everything is super smooth. I would suggest starting with this one and if you find you are still running low on ram try the 32MB version etc...
Vadonka offer several versions so you can choose whatever you like. Personally I chose the 32mb Ramhack (not shared!). Only reboot doesn't work but to push the ON-button is not really a problem However, for some others the 1x click is too much and they prefer no ramhack.
You can also choose more ramhack if you like, but then it starts to have more issues like no full video resolution etc.
Thanks for the information guys. I will flash the 0MB Eterna kernel during the coming weekend I think. Or maybe tomorrow if I can spare the time.
Btw, would installation of the kernel remove system settings? I mean through the wipe?
The good thing about ETaNa Kernel is that it wipes automatically wipes cache and dalvik everytime you flash it. So, everytime you want to flash a custom kernel you need to wipe cache and dalvik. That means there's no data loss.

@temasek : Could you point me to a page showing the main features of your Kang . I'm on the CWM 204 nightly and was wondering what are the significant featural differences between your Kang and CM7 nightly . Video / screenshots would be great . Can I install you Kang on top of CM 204 nightly ( without deleting data)
Guess I should make this a new thread for noobs like me

Are there any free apps I can use to undervolt?

ICS

So i was waiting for this from a long time ?I installed the ICS stock rom using PC odin.GB was much better than this ICS.My ram use always up to 550MB.Even i clear it,it raise up again automatically.N nothing new with the battery life. What should i do now?
What is your question? Be specific
well my pone's memory it even used more than that and everything is fine it goes to deep sleep and battery as a matter of fact lets say 16 hours so far works great seems your flashing better wipe everything and install clean then install CPUspy right away and start watching it must go to deep sleep without issues so look again.

After seeing the ram issue i reset the factory data.Even i formatted my internal storage. But the ram issue is still the same.I don't have anything installed now except JuiceDefender.
Anyway to reduce the ram use? Or i should try with the N7000ZSLPF rom selecting the boot loader?

No need to get panicky about RAM usage at all. Android is meant to work that way:
it keeps your apps cached, so it can start them faster when you need them.

When will people realise android is not like WINDOWS or any Microsh$t RAM is meant to be used on our phones to keep multitasking running smoothly etc. If you want to run a large app/game then android will give it then ram it needs and automaticly keep processors from other apps.
Thus there is never much free ram because its being used to make everything nice and smooth.
FREE RAM IS WASTED, personally I hate seeing more than 200MB ram free
OK thank u everyone for reply.But should i try the N7000ZSLPF rom.What's the different between N7000ZSLPF n N7000XXLPY rom?

Personally I wouldn't yet, give it a week or so make sure there are no huge bugs, wouldn't want to flash it and then find out that after 2 days use peoples phones randomly start failing to boot...sure its unlikely but I like to wait as I don't really have the cash laying around to buy another £500 phone....
Ok thank u.

to increase memory, have you tried using any of those memory optimizers like autokill?
Settings, Developer options, section "Apps"
but my common sense tells me that your phone is going to be a lot slower.

Question regardin RAM and JB!

Hi guys I'm running MiUi.JB.2.8.24 on my SGS1 and my RAM memory is always 75%-80% full even if I don't run any apps....is there a way to free some RAM space in order to make my SGS1 smoother?
Thanks in advance!!!!
Don't know about MIUI, but I use C-RoM BeaN v1.3.4 and I have 278Mb in use and 111 free. The phone is very smooth and the ROM pretty cool.

There is a firmware (XXLPY) as well as an Update to the firmware (XXLPZ) both available.
So to install Jelly Bean, Do I need to first install XXLPY and then update to XXLPZ or I can install XXLPZ directly?

Ive installed XXLQ4
Differences I noticed :
Alarm Clock fixed
Phone less laggy feels even more buttery now
Improved stability
USB issue fixed
Minor bug fixes..
.. N yes now it eats about 110 mb lesser RAM atleast in my phone!
Overall heavy improvement so its an important update you shouldnt miss. Dont worry you wont lose data for upgrading even via Odin.
Jb over custom ROM and Kernel
Hi thank you very much for helping me, my question is this.
S I have a modified I9070 with jet mod and its custom kernel, so my question, which Is a very noob one, is that if I install following the procedure in the android development forum, do I have to go back to stock GB or just do it over the current system....

I have updated from LPY to LQ4.(stock kernel) roooted
I have found that my phone hangs (also lags a lot of times) a lot after upgarding to LQ4.
I have tried factory reset and cache wipe.
Are others also experiencing this?
Or is this because i restored backup of apps + system data with titanium?

yes it lags a lot... mine
camera to snapshot loads 5-11 seconds of black screen before viewing snap photos
longpress home task manager takes 2+secs to load
battery drain 7-9 hours (USED LIGHTLY+OVERNYT)
lag games HD/3D
i think Z version is more responsive than Q
i updated mine all via kies from Y-Z-Q dont want to
fresh odin Q cause i have nice game save that i dont want to loose
and more lags
Someone knows when XEO version is going to be released ?
Sorry, it's not much related to Russian version probably, but maybe someone knows

U didnt factory reset, but i have done factory reset after flashing through odin. Then used titanium. Still i feel lag/hang
To all who are facing lagging problem just follow this steps in Q4 version
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Root your phone
Install any suitable kernel (I an using CoCore)
In no frills CPU set configuration as PegasusQ and sio.
This helped me.

Galaxy Mini breaks/freezes

The device: Samsung Galaxy Mini GT-S5570
Anroid version: 2.3.6
Rom: emanoN V7
Using: SetCPU: 787 MHz Max 245 MHz Min
AutoMemoryManager: Mild
Link2SD: 1Gb partition SDext2
This phone has almost 2 years now, and a year ago I decided to improve it. However 5 major problems stil persist (I decided to create a separate thread for each one of them).
One of them is that once in a while, for no apparent reason, the phone breaks/freezes and the only way to make it work again is to pull out the battery.
Does anyone has this problem? What can I do about this?
Please, dude. Post a question in ONE TOPIC, not several topic !
