Well, you can always go back to froyo.. the problem is app compatibility.. e.g. equalizer apps won' t work in froyo and a lot other's.. but someone here is comfortable using froyo so you might wanna give it a shot..
Why not flash custom roms?
Sent by Mister Mini ®
As far as I understood, gingerbread has better performance
not recommended to go back but you can just download the firmware which have all the files like arm11boot, data.rfs, system.rfs, cache.rfs etc.
Try Andro-ID 3.3.1 / Emanon V6.
not recommended. gingerbread has better memory management and battery... flash to another baseband if u want..or why not try a custom rom. ? andro-id 3.3.1 is gud...
If u really like stock go for MOre

Thank you guys
I cant use any other than stock because i use my phone to the maximum. i use alot of navigation due to my job and if my gps fails then i am doomed.
custom roms have always let me down. the only custom rom that was stable for me for a while was Chocobread 2.2. after awhile it started playing up,

NO the RAM cannot to increase however the usage of RAM can be decreased...
Swap
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda app-developers app
You can use swap or compcache. The first one uses SD card space as RAM (obviously, it's much, much slower than the real RAM), compcache uses compression.
Google is your friend.

Instead of having android killing your old apps when RAM is needed, their state will be moved to the SD card.
It will be loaded again in the main RAM (after killing/moving other stuff again) when you need it.
So basically, it's good if your, say, browser keeps closing its tabs as soon as you exit it, but it won't help gaming much.
In fact, it may even cause lag if an application's state is being copied to the SD instead of being killed while gaming (killing it is pretty fast; copying it, not so much, and will cause lag, especially on our low end device).
If you are looking for more memory to install apks, then you should take a look at this:

DON'T USE THAT "CronMod-A2SD/D2EXT/INT2EXT" or you will end up losing your IMEI number if your are unlucky...

@mario320, I agree with you in 100 per cent. I've S5830i for few days, and tried almost all ROM revisions for this mobile, but MindCr Rom v2.3 is just what I was loking for. I removed some useless apps from ROM, added other ones, and now it fits me perfectly. So with a clear conscience I can recommend MindCr Rom v2.3

Maybe you're rom is out of memory and that can happen if you really push your phone to run too hard
Remember, X8 is a low performance phone so don't push it

I don´t know where is the problem. I every had more than 50MB in phone memory and at least 30MB in system. Sometimes, I had freezing in Settings or other basic apps and sometimes I can play game (for example Monster Shooter) for 1h and phone run without freeze. Maybe the problem is in the kernel because I have this freezing in all JB roms running on nAa JB 05 kernel. I don´t have this problem with older roms which run on JB 03 or earlier nAa kernel version.

first of all maybe the RAM usage exceeded, do not try to bloat your device, plus, close the apps that you are not using anymore as they consume an amount of RAM

hahaha, when I kill apps which I do not use, they open to background again after few seconds/minutes and this consume a battery. Android is smart enough to make kill of apps that he not need while I am using some more demanding app (game).

Hi guys. I'm using cm mods for like 2 years. But it seems that it's getting slower and slower. I guess the new apps need more ram or something. Is there any way I can make my i9000 faster? Should I go back to gingerbread? Or any rom you can suggest for faster use?
It's really annoying to use the phone lately. Always lag.

For my phone helped me wipe cache/dalvik cache/fix permissions and factory reset... After these wipes my rom runs fast and smooth but after 2-3 months I need to do it again because the phone getting slower again Try it if you want I hope this can help you
I just use CM7.2 stable and no lag plus I can use chainfire3D in some games which gives them an extra boost... not sure if chainfire3D is compatible with any other version
I am using GamerzROM and the Fly-On Script and I can tell that it's super smooth. I also ticked GPU Rendering in Developer options, it seems to me that it makes scrolling so much smoother and basically everything is working fast.
Thanks for recommends. I installed gamerzrom and it's really good. I mean it's like i bought a new phone. I hope it won't do lag again after a week or so. If it will, then I'll try to add fly-on script I guess.
What is the difference between gamerzrom and CM???

Basically nothing. It's a rom with a modification of stock cm I guess. But very fast (compare to stock cm).
I made this thread so users who tested basebands to provide some useful reviews (battery backup, performance, bloatware, etc) for every user who want to know which baseband, new or old, has what he`s looking for or the baseband just came up and it`s new and he wants to know about it.
I tested MBM-XXLQI from Macedonia recently and all I have to say it brings nothing new about battery backup on the contrary it seems worse than DDULP8 from India or XXLQG-ITV from Italy, and in addition it has a lot more bloatware too.
I am going to test the new VSLPA from Argentina(moviestar) to see what it brings new as it has the latest build date and changelist, and I`ll provide a review in a day or two. You are free to do the same as we may have different opinions.
I am using VSLPA from Argentina from 1 day now and I have to say it provides the best battery backup till now, only 1% consumed over the night.
About performance, it`s pretty much like the other firmwares, tough i notice that lag is slightly reduced in this one or it may be placebo effect, don`t know yet.
Go try it yourself and report back to see if you have a different opinion from mine
I take my words back VSLPA is the best build by samsung for our device since they released Jb for us. I rooted, flashed cocore8.2, removed some bloats, instaled no-frills, set pegasusq+sio, powersave and I drained the battery till it shut down. After I let it charge full I powered it up and I couldnt believe my eyes how fast it was and still is, this build is LAG FREE, the dial pad opens in instant just like cyanogenmod. At first I tought that maybe it's just an one time event but not it still does that and is insanely fast, stable, smooth maybe then most of custom too (no offense to any dev). I know it is hard to believe but please try it for yourself and you'll be surprised.
I'll provide the list of bloats removed when I have time if it is of any use

This is as if you were explaining you saw a ghost.
Are you sure about this? Cause I heard similar things for previous FWs before, even though they all lagged like hell.
And 7 hours ago you were saying the opposite, how's that possible? What exactly fixed it, when it was the same when you first tried it?
Anyways I'm on GB now, got burned once and now I want to be sure if it's really lag free before I upgrade.
in sammobile, some of the firmwares are made for some particular carriers. Is it safe to flash that carrier basrd firmwires??

If your device is network free(meaning that another carrier sym is working) you can flash any firmware you want for our device with odin. Juat download it from samsung-updates, unrar it, put the tar file in pda section of odin and hi start.

First of all GB and JB are different in every aspect so you can`t compare one to the other. First time it was just after I flashed it then I did all the things I said ( root, flash cocore kernel, changed governors and I/O etc. ) and after that i used it till it shut down and then while it was turned off I let it full charge, after that i booted into recovery wiped cache and dalvik cache and reboot and that was all.
But you should never expect that JB to be like GB.
If you don`t like stock i suggest you to upgrade from gb to jb then flash CM 10.1 from Team Canjica or if you want stock based Roms try Harshjelly or SamiOS.
Before you do all the things read some guide about how to flash with odin, how to root jb shaan`s guide and some more if needed.
If you do some research before you should not have problems
Goodluck

Why would you want to downgrade? First read guide about Odin and then go and read Harshjelly thread first then flash his rom and from there on should be easier to learn about governors,I/O schedulers, kernel etc. After you think you have a good knowledge base and you`re still not happy with you`re android you can move on to CyanogenMod 10.1 of Team Canjica(19.10 nightly is the most stable version).

Why would you want to downgrade? First read guide about Odin and then go and read Harshjelly thread first then flash his rom and from there on should be easier to learn about governors,I/O schedulers, kernel etc. After you think you have a good knowledge base and you`re still not happy with you`re android you can move on to CyanogenMod 10.1 of Team Canjica(19.10 nightly is the most stable version).

Thanks, but been there, done that. All I'm saying is that I doubt it's lag free, I did try various firmwares, kernels and stuff but 5 sec delay when opening apps and lag in games, videos, UI is so bad that it's unbearable. That's why I had to downgrade, which is a much complicated process which frankly I don't want to repeat. That's why I want to make sure the new firmware is lag and delay free before I upgrade again.
And I'm pretty sure JB isn't supposed to be that bad, despite the fact that S Advance isn't much of a phone.

In cyanogenmod you wont encounter any kind of lag. So you can flash VSLPA via odin then flash cwm temporary make a backup then root it play with it a day or two and see how it goes and if you dont like it restore from backup then flash cyanogendmod 10.1 and i guarantee that you wont encounter any kind of lag there.
And btw id you want to thank me for any help just hit Thanks button and I`ll know

Sry for the way I express myself but english is not my native language
Goodluck and don't think about it just flash it and see for yourself

thanks for your detail review! will flash it. But i have a question here, if i have flash VSLPA stock ROM, then i flash a custom ROM built on DDLUP, will that custom ROM run on VSLPA baseband?
