I have currently Overcome 7 v4.1.0 on my tab and wish to try out [ROM][CDMA][KANG] Miui 1.12.9 12/24/11
Do i simply put in the zip file to my tab and install via overcome CWM or do i need to do anything beforehand? i.e wipe?
Maybe a silly question but i hope anyone can help me before i do anything stupid...
**UPDATE: BASED ON RECOMMENDATION BY FRIENDS I FLASHED IT DIRECTLY FROM CWM.***
Not going to ask about the ROM coz that will be in different thread but I'd like to know...how do i get back to Overcome 7? Just by flashing the same zip file as before? Thanks

I'm surprised not to see a topic on this in the SGT Bible. I've just flashed Overcome ROM, and I see a lot of recommendations for pairing this with koxudaxi kernel.
What's the procedure for keeping my current system and changing kernels? Do I just drop the koxudaxi kernel zip in my internal SD root and then flash that zip from CWM, or are there any gotchas I need to watch out for?

Easy to flash another kernel and its more easy to brick your tab, you should know what you're flashing and see if it can work with your system or no

I agree 100 percent with k0sh on this. Each kernel(or ROM) usually come with an instruction on how to install and also some precautions. These should be followed to the letter.
As for the bible-I also agree that it should be updated.

Yup, so I know what I'm flashing (koxudaxi kernel), and it works with my system (an AT&T GSM tab).

Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any instructions in the koxudaxi kernel thread on how to flash it. So what's the safe way to apply something like this?
Edit: Okay, I just went ahead and did it, and for anyone following along, yes, you just choose flash from zip in Clockworkmod.
He gives two formats of the kernal. The .tar file is for heimdal or odin. The .zip is for flashing with CWM.
I have two tabs. T-mobile overcome 2.0 koxu kernal. At&t with stock gb. Chainfire kernal for root and CWM, koxu kernal for tweaks.
Hey guys i've read all the instructions and it seems fairly straightforward, flash with odin first to Ficeto and then use CWM to flash it to V10.1..
Problem is, I'm already on Darkys V8.0, I have no idea where to start? Do i need Ficeto, do I just backup all my **** and then flash it? Will I lose apps?
So lost.
Cheers boys!
Firstly wadever u do backup all ur wanted apps
Secondly disable lagfix before flashin new rom( nt sure if its right)
Thirdly dl ur new rom and put on sdcard not external
Fourly go into recovery mode install zip from sdcard than select the zip wait for it to install
When finish go in and restore all ur apps
I never enabled any lagfixes though?
and how do I backup my apps?
Also guys what is this JVH and JVK stuff?
Is Darkys Gingerbread V8.1 with Kernel 2.6.32.9 ([email protected] #62)
appropriate to upgrade straight to V10.5 like the above user has said?
I've already read the rest about uploading to SDCARD then booting into CWM and flashing, just need to know the rest!
Thanks guys

V8.0 is bases on Froyo (Android 2.2.x), V10.1 on Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x). So DON'T flasg directly from 8.0 to 10.1. Flash any stock-firmware WITH bootloader first (I think the best way wouls be to use Ficeto's but I'm not quite sure it contains the bootloader). Them after installing the stock-ROM you have to root your phone (just flash another kernel) and finally flash 10.1 with CWM and you are done.

I'm in no way new to Android been around since the g1 era. I basically need help with installing a rom on my T-Mobile gtab. I've had my tab for over a year and I finally decided to root it last week. The problem I'm having is trying to load a custom rom onto it. Is there another way other than Odin that can be used or can I just download the roms and go straight to cwm and flash?

I have tried to do this several times in my own and my desktop will not let me extract the files that I need to do this on my own... just wanted to know if there was another way to put a from on my tab! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can install ROM from CWM, depends on which ROM you try to flash. Just find all the ROM at the Development section and choose the files with .zip. They usually are flashable from CWM.
for example, this rom is for GSM and are flashable through CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497872
or if you are ready from ICSm you can also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385153
Those provide .tar usually flashable with ODIN.
If you decide flashing using ODIN, you have to make sure that you connect you G-tab to Samsung Kies first before trying to use ODIN. (To make sure you have the correct Samsung Driver installed to your usb port connection).
I hope that helps. Please make a note, if you are upgrading from FROYO to Gingerbread, you probably need to flash new PIT file, and probably datadb.rfs as well. These files, I'll recommend to flash them using ODIN.
Good luck, and be careful not to soft-brick your G-Tab.
Since you have T-mobile tab like me,
I think your best bet will be going to Overcome ROM thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317384
Re-stock to Stock Safe 5 and then flash their kernel (all via Odin).
And from there you can CWM flash almost any ROM
Overcome website has broken images.
You can check this

I just wanted to tell you guys thanks for the help...I'm running AOKP at the moment!

Please read the instructions in his post
You are on 2.3.6
1. Install Mobile Odin
2. Flash REPACK_LP1 CF
3. Let Rom Boot
4. Go to CWM and flash LiquidSmooth
5. Wipe Data, Wipe Dalvik/Cache

As the install guide says you are meant to flash the repack and then go into recovery and flash the rom. You will likely need to flash a gb kernel via obin and then do as hia install guide says

Ok, thanks for your help so far.
So you mean the PC version of Odin. In which state will i have to bring my phone in order to do so? Where do i get the GB kernel from?
Would be really cool if you could help me further.

Well i am not 100% sure, tbh your safest route would be to re flash a stock gb rom then root it and then try again just to make sure theres no issues, in which case you can download a gb rom from the sticky in the dev section (make sure its a older rootable image!) and flash using odin while your phone is in download mode
please start at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 then/or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
i am hoping of course, that you can still somehow manage to get into download mode.
I has almost the same issue! I am running speedmod kernel and i want to put back the cf-root 5.3 kernel so I flashed the tar which was included the zimage via mobile oding and after reboot the phone gave me a blank screen and no recovery! only downlaod mmod where I can manage to flash speedmod again via pc odin...
why is that happend?
Come on mate have you even read the opening page for the liquid smoother rom on all opening pages it tells you to the letter how to install and yet you don't follow it and wonder y you have a black screen. Have you installed clock work recovery after rooting your note if not search how to install cwm on you tube cursed4eva is a brilliant guy who spells it all out for you- . Please don't use the fact you a noob as an excuse as I'm probably newer than you but can read and follow instructions to the letter as the developer knows best.
W00t! The phone came back to life! Thanks alot.
Now, what i dont understand is that repack_lp1 thing. I downloaded I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK.tar ... now do i flash this one using mobile odin? Will this install the CFM?
Look for cursed4eva on YouTube watch the video were he shows you how to install clockwork then read the op of liquid smooth rom simple !
Please do some more research before randomly flashing files without having any knowledge as to what they do.
Before you start fiddling with repacks and leaked ICS based roms, read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633938
If you still think it's a good idea to flash anything based on the leaked ICS builds, go to the thread of the rom you want to flash and read the instructions. Again, read the instructions and then to be sure read the instructions once more.
Then follow the instructions step by step and you're good to go.
From my rooted GB Chrack's rom I just used PC odin to flash AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar then I flashed Liquid Smooth rom without problem. However you should follow the instruction from their website.

This snippet of information can only further confuse a man who's mustering the courage to step into the unknown. Don't post stuff like that in threads like this. You can tell that to me or any other vet, and we'll know what you're talking about. OP won't.

Hi, I would love to update my GT-p1000 to ICS, I have found a whole bunch of posts about how to do this, but I can't really sort out what posts are the correct ones or where to start.
I have not updated with a custom image before so it's "clean"
I have rooted the device though, but that is about it.
Can someone guide me step by step on how to install a ICS image on this device?

Hi too. Your post confuses me. I thougt almost all ICS update Q&A threads are similar and therefore correct too.
It would start by tell you there are several ICS ROMs available.. CM9, and Stimpz0r's AOKP, being the main choices.
Continuing to ask you to follow the team overcome website instructions to restock (i.e. install GB-Stock-Safe) with team overcome kernel ONLY(no need to install overcome rom)
Next would be downloading the respective .zip file from their threads, and usually ends by asking you to follow each respective install instructions on their first posts. Currently AOKP and CM9 follows a very similar install procedures.
So, all these posts similar to tbe above are all correct.
But since you are on stock and rooted, AND if you are on Gingerbread 2.3.3 or up, with JPZ modem, you can skip the restocking procedure and directly install Overcom KERNEL before flashing ICS .zip file.

Do you mean
How do you put ICS into your Tab ?
First upgrade to 2.3.3 Then install cwm by using chainfire's pda and flashing it through odin 3 v1.7
http://www.4shared.com/zip/g-uW6vGt/CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v33-CW.html
then you have to flash overcome nowipe from team overcome's site.
after that you can follow any post incluzing stimpz0r's aokp or cdesai's cyanogenmods
What about for 2.3.3 unrooted set up if would like to had an ics? Also the same cm9?
Thanks

Same procedure.
Install CWM by flashing a kernel that has CWM built in , like Overcome 4.0 kernel.
The exact step you can follow overcome guide.
Then boot into cwm and flash ics and gapps.

One question from me (it's about ICS and soft modification so I allowed myself to put it here)
If I installed e.g. AOKP build 37 and I want to update it to build 38, do I need to use Recovery to install new rom only? Will it wipe my data (so I need to back it up using Titanium etc.?) or should I clean it myself? What about dalvik?
Thanks for answers!
It is OK to wipe cache and dalvik cache (some recovery just lump it as wipe cache)
I update from AOKP #37 to #38 without issue, everything intact.
Remember to flash gapps again.
But there has been at least two cases if seasoned users who got stuck upgrading and had to restock.
Just in case, copy everything from internal SD to external SD or to PC, since restock with pit file will reformat internal SD.
Edit: recovery is for flashing anything and wiping, not just for flashing new rom.
Of course it only flash zip that is packaged for flashing.
