[Q] How to change region?/Why cant I flash CSC? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am at my whit's end here. So my new Note is ATO region from Austria. It's on KKA and rooted with CWM.
Flashed LA4 from Germany, null keyboard, CWM would FC when I tried to flash just the cache.
Flashed LA3 open europe, null keyboard, tried to flash the multi CSC file using PC odin-failed
When using Mobile Odin to flash cache, I see in the recovery it says something to the affect, "it cannot access system/.../ATO"
So when I try to change my region on LA3/4 I cannot see any options. I restored back to KKA and went to change my region and don't see DBT.
What am I doing wrong? I'd like to flash LA4, it felt snappy as hell. Was using LA3 on my other Note.
A million thanks in advance.

i got that, you are using KKa right now. just get it Root, get CF root.here you just get CF root for LA4 not KKA
so at the end you may have
Build version KKA
Kernel LA4
Now Download LA4 ROM extract n keep zip file to Ext card/firmware folder
open CWM
select ' Flash Stock ROM'
Shud be all OK

Going to try this. Tried cache.img from LA4 DBT and from LA4 Austria but didn't work.
EDIT I am back on LA4..can I do this FLASH STOCK ROM from LA4?

Ok that worked bro, they don't call you the doc for nothing. Another million thanks, I can finally go to bed, LOL!

Had the nullnull stuff happening too trying to go back to GB via mobile odin after getiing the crap scared out me by ICS eMMC bug. Flashed to pre-rooted KJ1 with mobile odin, then used CWM to flash to later version. Works a treat, thanks Doc

i9000 to factory stock

my friends galS is bootlooped. i would like to odin it back to either a rooted stock rom or rooted gingerbread. i searched on google and ended up in 5 directions
thanks
Download a stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 rom (JVP or JVQ) from either SamFirmware or here
Open Odin, place PDA in PDA, Phone in Phone and CSC in CSC.
For the PIT file, choose a 512 one and remember to click repartition.
Flash away
Then once you've done that you can either flash a Kernel like Speedmod or CF-Root or download JVP/JVQ de-oxed/rooted and flash that through Odin.
thanks alot

can't boot into recovery

After installing the lastest "S.U.R.F.A.C.E" ROM on my GT-I9000 I'm presented with the Galaxy S logo and nothing else,
Tried and tried vol up + home + power number of times now with no avail.
Everything was working fine before was able to boot into clockwork recovery ect, unfortunately I do not have a usb cable so can't try odin any help would be great.
Grab yourself a jig from ebay or the likes, or make one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
It will boot into download fine the problem I have is it won't boot into recovery is there any way I can wipe it or does it look like I am in need of a cable?
Then reflash back to stock using Odin
What were you flashing from as surface is an oxeded rom, not dexeded.

clockwork recovery, i take it I messed up here so
No, meant what rom were you on before your flash? Stock?
oh sorry got the phone of a friend looked like a custom samsung rom, build version was easyprojectv2 if that rings any bells?
Looks like the problem was caused by trying to flash a odexed rom over a deodexed rom, or not having the correct bootloaders for the new rom. Normally before a flash I would return to stock (firmware from sammobiles.com) first via ODIN, do all the wipes, flash a kernel so you have a nice clean install to 'abuse'. Then I would add any custom rom from there be it by ODIN or by cwm.
Grab yourself a usb lead, nice clean flash and start again.
Ok so I've 3 file here:
APBOOT_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CODE_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
KERNEL_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
s1_odin_20100803.pit (not sure if i need this as was in the root of the odin folder not the firmware?)
Where do the other 3 file go PDA PHONE CSC???
I am also stuck on the same front, i donwloaded rom from samfirmware but it only had PDA part and nothing else, please suggest which official rom should i download??

I would go this way mate, first grab JVT from sammobiles.com ( register first)
Flash that using ODIN
Comes with 3 files, CSC, PHONE and PDA
PDA file goes to PDA in ODIN
PHONE goes into MODEM in ODIN
CSC goes in CSC in ODIN.
Also select PIT file, should be 512 on the PIT section on ODIN, hit start and it will flash then reboot.
Then open ODIN again, connect phone and flash your KERNEL to the PDA section of ODIN.
Then grab this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117579
and flash using cwm.
Your then on JW1 all rooted and ready to play.
put the "APBOOT_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar" file into the PDA and flashed it. Everything seems to be working fine might stick with the stock for a while never really needed to be rooted.
ok i just popped the SIM and have no network access when i tap on Mobile Networks in the setting it tells me to insert a SIM????
the firmware i had was wrong didnt have a modem. Downloaded a jvt as buttwad said flashed an now everything working perfect now. cheers mate!

How to upgrade to 4.0.4 from rooted 4.0.3

I used Dr. Ketan's method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360) with the SU 0.91 modification.
I would like to upgrade safely to 4.0.4 without wiping my data and having to backup / restore.
I'm not bothered with keeping the root.
Many thanks for any help.

You need to flash a GB kernel such as abyss then wipe cache and dalvik before upgrading using pc odin.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
U can flash it from PC Odin or mobile Odin and u dont have to wipe data after flashing...
PC Odin is safer..
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I updated mine yesterday from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 via PC version of Odin and didn't wipe the data. It works pretty darn good, but the issue that I had previously on 4.0.3 is still present here - dropping the wifi signal...
eMMC bug
Thanks you all.
I also happen to have the eMMC bug according to the ChainFires GotBricked
I did upgrade from GB to 4.0.3 (Open UK) via Kies when the ICS came out.
Seems that the bug won't affect you if you go through Odin..
Well, I did it from Odin, then flashed the CF Root + Speedmod kernel in the same way to get CWM + Root + Kernel optimizations on top of ICS 4.0.4 !
It may take 10 minutes if all is prepared.

4.0.4 file size
Is the un-zipped .tar file size meant to be about 950mb?
I am running 4.0.3 (rooted) and NoteCore v13 Kernel so as far as I can tell from this, all I need to do is flash this via Odin and it's all gravy from there.
Thought?
Thanks,
Grady
Just download a 4.0.4 official firmware from Dr.Ketan's list and flash it with PC Odin. Done.

Yeah, use PC Odin and click on the 'PDA' button to look for the .tar file and that's it. Click on "Start"
On the side note, I did mine not thru PC Odin but thru Mobile Odin pro. Either way, the processes are quite the same, Flash the .tar file and that's it.
John
Thanks gents. It's running 4.0.4 now

you can change csc, but it wipes so not suggested on stock kernel. Flash safe kernel-> wipe->flash stock LR6 using pc odin and then you should be able to recieve OTA.
Or wait for few days for the LR9 rom (odin version) and then flash it using pc odin.

you can first root (dr.ketan's 1st method) and then flash either speedmod or hydracore (both are safe and smooth) using mobile odin or k-tools OR directly flash either of these kernels using pc odin in download mode (it will raise yellow triangle and all, search and use triangle away for it)
You can check a short and nice guide for rooting and flashing kernel in my sig (first link, point #2)
After flashing safe kernel, boot in cwmr and wipe all 3, reboot.
(you can change csc after flashing safe kernel if you want to)
Restart Note in download mode, connect to pc and select LR6 tar file (stock firmware) in PDA field of pc odin, hit start.
OR
If you have Indian GB firmware downloaded then simply flash it using pc odin without flashing any kernel, then wipe and update to LR6 using either pc odin or Kies and then LR9 via OTA. (Edit- I am doing this right now, was on LR6 with lot of customizations and OTA was no success (2 failed attempts), flashed GB using odin and now updating to LR6 using kies, will try OTA then
Feel free to PM me if you still have questions.

I guess this pre-rooted GB rom includes custom kernel (CF root kernel I believe), so I don't think you would be able to update using kies. Either flash stock un rooted GB firmware or follow the long method.
If you think this is too complicated then wait for few days, I am sure Dr.ketan will upload pc odin version of LR9 once it is available, flash it using odin, till then use your phone as it is

[Q] How to get stock kernel

I am running stock 4.0.4 with hydracore kernel.
I am getting the OTA update but cannot install.
how can i get back to the stock kernel without flashing the stock rom via pc odin ?
You got 2 options...
1. Download the stock ROM on your PC and extract the kernel (zImage) and flash it after
2. Download Chainfire's stock CF-Root kernel from this link- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784 and find the kernel that matches your ROM (on your region.

Download stock kernel for your rom from here and then flash using mobile odin or K-tools. I have done it many times using mobile odin and it even retains root.
But there is still no guarantee of OTA, I was on stock LR6 with stock kernel with mods and OTA failed everytime, now flashed GB and updating to LR6 via kies to use OTA.

Most often it will.. since your using PC Odin.. but there's nothing impossible as long as you root your phone back and use ChainFire's TriangleAway app to remove the counter back to 0.
EDIT: Yes, MOdin can flash Zimage as well.. try to look for some of the answers here as well -->>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713289
Flashing anything which is stock should not raise custom count, same way as flashing stock firmware using pc odin doesn't. but why take chances when you can flash it using mobile odin or K-tools easily.
I even once flashed stock kernel using Doomlord's tool (used in CF root kernels to root and flash , it didn't raise the custom count.
Just put zimage on root of SD and flash by MO or ktools, easy. Modin can handle zimage and tar both.

I used mobile odin and used the tar.md5 in kernel... flashed and it wen back to the stock kernel but the OTA still failed... then did a restore of complete rom from odin.. sacrificed root and mods.. but finally the OTA installed and happy that i did.. love the new launcher

Yes, that's why I said no guarantee of OTA even after flashing stock kernel, I was on stock kernel already and never flashed custom but still had to flash GB from odin for OTA
