[Q] What REALLY comes in the box? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

According to the xda article: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/galaxy-note-arrives-at-att-on-feb-19/ , all sorts of stuff comes with the ATT Note. Stand, extra battery, case etc.
But according to the local ATT staff, they laughingly claim there's no way ATT would ever be so gracious - not when there's a nice juicy customer to harass out of $1.50. And this comes from their own people.
Also, Bestbuy is advertising "Free Flip Case" with their note, but no mention of that from ATT.
Anyone know what's REALLY in the box from ATT?

I believe the retail package mimics that of the International model, with a charger, USB cable, headset and battery. It is highly unlikely that you will receive any extras on top.
That said, the flip case deal is probably correct. I know they do this with the units sold in India

I doubt that part. ATT usually ships with less. I'm guessing no earbuds.
edit: not to mention a terrible box. I'm sorry, but when I buy a top tier phone I want to feel like I'm doing so.

It would be a disappointment but, based on their latest products (Nitro, Vivid) I'm guessing you are correct. The 'phones with the International version are very capable for OEMs, too. Shame.

Yep, agree with the mod, one of the things that makes the xda so successful is the ORDER.
Back to the topic, if you don't mind paying extra dollars, go Amazon. They have the top-notch customer service, which took care of my return of previous unsuccessful purchase of mobile phones and a lot of other stuff. Specifically, this seller called "global mobile" is my recommendation.
I had the same question as you did, because I wanted the phone to come completely sealed in the box, and from Europe. So I tried my luck: I bought one for my buddy, not from global mobiles, and the packaging was partially crap, as it's obviously been opened and looks like it came from Latin America. Then I bought a white one for my girlfriend, from global mobile, and it was well packaged and factory sealed, which was the most important thing to me. Also, it came from Germany, so OTA upgrades are good.
At the time, this seller only had white version, so I talked to them thru email, and was informed that their next batch of black (or dark blue actually) would come at xxxx date. I waited and ordered, and it came in yesterday. Right, it's the same kind of goodie my girlfriend got. So I would definitely recommend this seller with my own experience. They said they are some kind of verified importer and they are headquartered in Germany, so their shipments only get rare and random inspection by custom, which is why most of their phones come factory sealed. I'm not sure if any seller mentioned above provide this kind of service/product, but at least I know this seller does.
Be noted though, since it's sealed and comes from Europe, the charger is obviously different, but they do provide a plug converter in the "outer" packaging, and included a nice note about selecting the right language (English) because the first thing you'll see when you turn on the phone is in German, which I liked :thumb up: Also, you can buy OEM samsung charger U.S. version cheap from Amazon.
Hope this helps, and nope, I'm not in any way affiliated with this seller, so don't take my complimentary as some sort of advertising.
How is the quality of convert they gave you? Normally I don't like a converter, it make the charger urgely. Do you have a link for they store?
Sure, here it is. Honestly, converter that it came with is ugly, but I also had no intent to use it at all.
I simply bought two of these to use at home (i like to reach a charger of my device easily w/o carrying them around)
I just thought the included converter could at least show that they were a thoughtful seller. Oh well, meticulous Germans as we knew it

Can i sell a Droid 3 or should i throw it away?

I only want to know if i should sell it or throw it away.. if it's worth it... don't want to sell it here. Sorry if that thread seems to.
I bought a droid 3 on ebay, unfortunately i was not able to remove the subsidy lock
When i bought it, it was brand new. I only tried 2 codes, they didn't work. Bad luck for me.
I've never made any modifications to the software or hardware.
The specs:
Model: Xt862
Carrier: Verizon Wireless
ESN: good (i looked it up on verizon wireless' official website)
Condition: very good, not a single scrach or any damages.
Batteries: 3 (manufactured by motorola, they work without problems)
No instructions or anything else..
I live in europe (Austria) so i cannot retrieve any codes from verizon, only a customer of them can do that. So the value would be reduced to the minimum or nothing right? I got a new phone from samsung for free from my carrier "Telekom Austria" so no need for this cell phone any more. I don't even know if it is stolen or not, some unlock-code sites said "reported as stolen". Verizon website says it is eligable for activation the seller called verizon, the same answer. I don't want to do any researches to find out if it is stolen or not.. i don't think it is.
So is it worth to sell it or not?
Many thanks in andvance!
PS: sorry for my poor english

You can definitely sell it. To say it's worthless is ridiculous. Android phones still serve as decent personal media players and gaming devices.
put a price on it, and let me know through a PM, pls.

You can sell it on Ebay. How much you brought it for?
Sent from my XT883 using XDA
Including taxes about 300€
without taxes 240 €
seemed to be a very good price..
Have you tried with TurboSIM, more precisely i-SmartSIM (orange)?
In addition to eBay, I would suggest dropping a PM to some of the D3 developers. They may be willing to negotiate a fair price with you, so they can have an extra device to test on, but definitely don't just throw it away...just a thought.

[Q] Motorola or play store?

Hey guys, what is the difference in ordering from the play stor vs motorola ie shipping, warranty etc. Going to try and order Wednesday a 64gb white and would like to get different opinions. Thanks
Good luck. I would try direct from Motorola.
It is the very definition of insanity to sit on a computer and hit refresh hoping for a chance to have the privilege of sending a corporation large chunks of money. Google has been doing some type of social experiment just to see how insane people actually are. I fell prey to this insanity and wasted literally hours attempting to give them my money. Not again. If they begin normal sales I may purchase one but then again I am thinking no corporation who does this sort of thing actually deserves my money. I may look elsewhere. I pulled out an old Note 1 and realized what a great device it was so the Note 4 is looking more attractive to me, even though I like/liked the original concept of Nexus and have purchased every Nexus device that came out. But if I do get one it will be direct from Motorola.
That'll teach 'em. Google still gets your money.

It's up to you, really. The warranty is exactly the same (It's Motorola's warranty in both cases). Google, historically, has been better about replacing defective/damaged units, but Moto has Moto Care, which is one of the cheapest accidental damage warranties out there. At this time, it doesn't look like you can buy Moto Care for a Play Store model, but that may change (and you can always get the slightly more expensive one from Fair Trade). Also, Moto's site is infinitely easier to order from right now, and they offer a payment plan, unlike Google. On the flip side, Moto charges you immediately, whereas Google only places a hold on your credit card, and doesn't actually charge you until the unit ships. Speaking of shipping, Moto ships via FedEx ground only, whereas Google offers UPS Ground, 2nd Day, and Next Day shipping options.
Pros and Cons either way. I chose Google, because of my past experiences with their replacement policies, but many people swear by Moto, so I think you'll be happy either way.

That's also been refuted several times by Moto reps, including specific pricing ($85 for 2 years). At this point, it's really a guessing game, since no REAL information will come out until the Nexus 6 is actually launched. With Moto, if you didn't/can't order the extended coverage at purchase time, you can call with the device information once you receive it. We'll know for sure once people receive their devices and attempt to add coverage.

From my personal experience I would order from the Google Play Store. Their customer support is amazing (surprisingly) and they gave me a replacement Nexus 5 at no charge because I had set a dumbell on my screen and it smeared everywhere. It was rooted/ unlocked and they could've cared less.
I've been lurking on the n6 forum because I want one but they are hard to comeby at the moment, and I am waiting to see what ATT does with theirs, if they will have ATT bloatware and so on.

Thanks for the advice, as far as I know all models from the carriers shouldn't have bloat ware, not 100% sure.
Isn't it cheaper to order through Motorola? Free shipping and people are reporting the tax is cheaper too.

T-Mobile Retail Note 4 Retail Box Printed in USA

I purchased a Note 4 from T-Mobile's website. The back of the sleeve states Printed in USA. And the box states Printed in the USA. Box Made in Mexico. Also, the Android logo on the back of the box looks different from the box made in Vietnam. According to the package, the phone was packaged / manufactured 12/12/2014.
Somethings not ringing here. From all the unboxing videos of the T-Mobile Note 4 I came across online and in-store, they all state Printed in Vietnam on the back of the box.
Is this a repackaged Note 4?
Would greatly appreciate clarification here. Thanks

That app will show you usage history. If its repackaged used phone you probably will find that headphones or battery charger were attached more than once.

Actual Manufacturing Date is set to December 9th, 2014. I noticed the Charger Connect count is '3' and Headset Connect Counter is '6'. But I never plugged in the charger yet; I just got the phone. What gives?
Also, I have the latest firmware preinstalled. I didn't have to perform any updates out of the box.
Now seriously, what gives, the count is more than '1'. What is this suppose to indicate. This is a legality issue. How is it that no one has addressed this yet.
Whats also funny is that the plastics that conceal the condition of the phone; only one side of the phone is covered in plastic, all other three sides are not and were exposed upon opening the seals of the box. I found a couple of micro-scratches in the bottom part of the metallic edges
Had a quality chat with Samsung just now. It appears the counter is set by the quality control checks at the manufacturing facility.
The ultimate question now is do the carriers have software to over-ride the build-date of a device?
Does the phone work well? Are you happy with the performance and style and so on? If the answer is yes, then why are you worried about it? IMHO you must have bigger fish to fry. Besides; if your here, you most likely mod your phone so a warranty is irrelevant.
I know you wouldn't try and return your phone and hide that you have been modifying it. I mean based on your reaction to t-mo, I doubt you would do that to them.
Oh and mine was printed in Vietnam.
I bet this is a refurbished phone.
Flashed all nicely at a T-Mobile warehouse and sent out to the stores would be my guess.
Did Samsung verify it's authenticity for you?
Doesn't matter it's still a note 4
Samsung does verify its authenticity on its own website. Showing December 11, 2014 (after inputting IMEI #)
Box label shows December 12, 2014
Phone Info * SAMSUNG Shows December 9th, 2014
Samsung explained me the logistics last night. Carriers certain quantity of phones from Samsung to meet demands--> Carrier receive phone orders in bulk, all in one box--> and repackages them into their own Carrier Boxes. Take AT&T for example, the worst of them all. Whereas T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon play along by copying the design of the original Samsung boxes and uses cheap labor to print the boxes at the country of manufacture of their ordered devices. Who knows, your devices may very well be treated the same as well.
But the question remains, DO THE CARRIERS HAVE THE ABILITY TO OVERRIDE THE MANUFACTURING DATES ON THE PHONES? IF DO, THIS IS UNETHICAL.
T-Mobile most likely signed cheap labor in Vietnam to print on empty light brown boxes and had them shipped to the states for repackaging the phones. After a certain quantity, decided it would be best to print them within the states to save on logistical import fees, fair enough.
I myself have seen the white and blue boxes that Samsung was referring to. I've seen them in Service Centers overseas in Asia.
But Carriers are just plainly insane.

The reason I make a big deal about this is really because of the amount we all pay. We all are paying a premium for these devices (for the most part) and deserve the right thing. Otherwise, I'd be more than happy to pay $200max for the device I received, not the whooping $750 (oh and the taxes are extra well).
Dude you have a phone that works. That is all you need. You rooted the phone isn't that unethical . Just be happy it works for you and you have no major issues with it.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
But I haven't rooted the phone yet. And besides, it is our right to do whatever we want with the devices, as long as we don't brick it.
I mean, how many customers are even aware of the Diagnostic Code *#0*# to check their devices for defects upon receiving the device; Verizon disables this command, which is insane.
Reality Check, you don't get what you pay for.
A Samsung rep once told me, "I'm not the average consumer" Uh-Oh

Yes it is your phone once it paid in full. If you did payments it not yours till us pay that last bill.
So either way it is a working device free of issues and bugs.

Mine has the same hardware revision as well, but doesn't have much of the issues others have reported, such as the fingerprint scanner and camera focus issues. The only issue is the purple tint on the left side of the display and a couple of microscratches on the metal edges (probably the way it way handled during the handling process at the warehouse); I didn't see all four sides covered in plastic wrap.

I would like to see what others think of this as well. I've had a worse experience with the AT&T Note 4.
It would be interesting to get John Legere's response to this matter as well. This is not a uncarrier move.
For the price I paid for the device, I can get a one way flight and get what I pay for just right.

SPen on Backorder?

I am new to the Note 9. Up until this week, I had a Note 8 that I was happy with. However, my Note 8 had burn in on the screen, and since Verizon had no Note 8 devices in stock the gave me a Note 9. I love the 9 even better than the 8!
The only downside is that the phone came by itself: no charger, no headphones, and more importantly no SPen! I tried Verizon and Samsung directly, but neither has any of the ocean blue pens in stock. Has anyone had any luck with the ones from Amazon? With all the fakes out there, it is so hard to determine what is a genuine spen. I am thinking of taking a chance on one until they are back in stock. Thanks in advance for the advice!

Wait, Verizon gave you a Note 9 with no box? No charger and no S-Pen? How is that possible? Did they just find one outside of a box and hand it over, or something? Even a refurb would have a charger but to not come with an S-Pen. That sounds pretty shady.

That is what I thought as well. However, after speaking with the customer service team they said it was the same as a warranty replacement. Since they replaced my note 8, they said the Note 9 was not supposed to come with any accessories (charger, earbuds, and spen). I have been trying to argue with them since Tuesday to get it made right.

What a BS answer from them. The S-Pen is a vital part of the Note device. It's built into the damn phone. Wow... Yet another example of what a ****e service provider Verizon is. Even when I was with Sprint they never pulled that crap with me, and T-Mobile? Forget about it, they're the best with this kind of thing. I hope you can find a way to leave them for someone better.

The guy gets a "free" upgrade to a note 9 , who cares if it didn't come with an S-Pen. Damn millennials.

Careful with the labels. It's cheap and you never know who you're addressing. It be like calling a 10-year Navy combat vet (disabled) a self-absorbed millennial and that would be just silly, woudln't it? All the best.
I'm no vet and my feelings would have been hurt just as much.

So are you a disabled 10-year Navy combat veteran? Or any combination of those titles?

Lmao! Trust me, as a non-millenial it pained me to even ask for the pen!
On a good note, I received the pen yesterday and this phone is amazing with it! I have had the Note series since the 3 and I always felt like subsequent units made little to no improvements over their predecessors, until now. I can certainly feel the difference in this phone and the pen is icing on the cake!

Glad you were able to take delivery w/o having to wait too long & at a relatively inexpensive cost. :good:
As for the sentiments surrounding the S-Pen,it shouldn't have pained you a bit to ask for it.
It's not as if the S-Pen is a universal accessory akin to a cord/charger adapter/earbuds/etc......... it's the defining element of what the Note series is.
Excluding it also leaves the phone at greater risk to foreign material/water intrusion.
VZW pulled a D*** move by not including it w/your warranty exchange.

I certainly agree! On the upside, I received a brand new Note 9 for essentially the cost of the spen. I am still considering it a win!

I'm not sure it's a **** move. They probably have certain units set aside for warranty replacement. Typically you'd be exchanging one Note 9 for another and would've kept all your accessories, including the S-Pen. I agree it's a necessary accessory, but the OP could have technically kept his Note 8 S-Pen and used it until the new S-Pen came in. It fits in the slot and works, just not the new Bluetooth features.
Not saying it didn't SUCK to have to go buy an S-Pen and wait, I just don't think Verizon was like, "Hey, let's screw this guy over and keep his S-Pen *maniacal laugh*"

Definitely a win!! When the S-Pen went on sale for $15 I snagged one just as a backup in case I lose/break mine. I actually had enough Samsung rewards points from using Samsung Pay that it only cost me $0.93 after tax and free shipping. And they still sent it via 2-day priority mail.

I agree with everything you said! I was hopeful I would get one new in the box, but I figured I would get the warranty replacement.
I also grabbed 2 spens! I also grabbed the stock quick charger for $15 and some new headphones from Amazonso now I essentially everything new that would have come in the box!
