Hey guys, what is the difference in ordering from the play stor vs motorola ie shipping, warranty etc. Going to try and order Wednesday a 64gb white and would like to get different opinions. Thanks
Good luck. I would try direct from Motorola.
It is the very definition of insanity to sit on a computer and hit refresh hoping for a chance to have the privilege of sending a corporation large chunks of money. Google has been doing some type of social experiment just to see how insane people actually are. I fell prey to this insanity and wasted literally hours attempting to give them my money. Not again. If they begin normal sales I may purchase one but then again I am thinking no corporation who does this sort of thing actually deserves my money. I may look elsewhere. I pulled out an old Note 1 and realized what a great device it was so the Note 4 is looking more attractive to me, even though I like/liked the original concept of Nexus and have purchased every Nexus device that came out. But if I do get one it will be direct from Motorola.
That'll teach 'em. Google still gets your money.

It is not about "teaching" anyone. It is about putting up with bulls***.
It's up to you, really. The warranty is exactly the same (It's Motorola's warranty in both cases). Google, historically, has been better about replacing defective/damaged units, but Moto has Moto Care, which is one of the cheapest accidental damage warranties out there. At this time, it doesn't look like you can buy Moto Care for a Play Store model, but that may change (and you can always get the slightly more expensive one from Fair Trade). Also, Moto's site is infinitely easier to order from right now, and they offer a payment plan, unlike Google. On the flip side, Moto charges you immediately, whereas Google only places a hold on your credit card, and doesn't actually charge you until the unit ships. Speaking of shipping, Moto ships via FedEx ground only, whereas Google offers UPS Ground, 2nd Day, and Next Day shipping options.
Pros and Cons either way. I chose Google, because of my past experiences with their replacement policies, but many people swear by Moto, so I think you'll be happy either way.

Can't will just buy insurance through the carriers? Verizon, Sprint, etc
Evidently no MotoCare for Nexus 6

That's also been refuted several times by Moto reps, including specific pricing ($85 for 2 years). At this point, it's really a guessing game, since no REAL information will come out until the Nexus 6 is actually launched. With Moto, if you didn't/can't order the extended coverage at purchase time, you can call with the device information once you receive it. We'll know for sure once people receive their devices and attempt to add coverage.

From my personal experience I would order from the Google Play Store. Their customer support is amazing (surprisingly) and they gave me a replacement Nexus 5 at no charge because I had set a dumbell on my screen and it smeared everywhere. It was rooted/ unlocked and they could've cared less.
I've been lurking on the n6 forum because I want one but they are hard to comeby at the moment, and I am waiting to see what ATT does with theirs, if they will have ATT bloatware and so on.

Thanks for the advice, as far as I know all models from the carriers shouldn't have bloat ware, not 100% sure.
Isn't it cheaper to order through Motorola? Free shipping and people are reporting the tax is cheaper too.

I was talking with a friend the other day who is also tech savvy, and he said his only worry about the Moto X was the questionable future of Motorola. Obviously if they were to go away, we would stop getting updates. This seems a little unlikely though given they just started manufacturing phones under google, doesn't it?

They still sell well on Verizon, and now that they have a presence on multiple carriers I don't think they're going to be going away anytime soon. We will know for sure if someone would release some sales numbers on the Moto X. All I can think of is it has been out for over a month now and no price drops yet!

It is always a possibility. Google however is a long term investment, nobody was expecting motorola to become the new apple as soon as google took ownership. However as time goes by it is going to be harder to get rid of motorola.
You gotta look at how much other stuff Motorola makes; ever been arrested, got any military/government associates? Motorola Mobility has a parent with VERY deep pockets and the parent makes its longest green off of software that's why Nexus devices are priced so low. Google will let Moto spend what it needs like the 500 million it spent on advertising.

I wouldn't worry about the future of Motorola as far as their mobility products go. I am a manager at a relatively busy AT&T store and they have been selling well. It's not a galaxy so the massive marketing done by Samsung does outdo Moto as far as awareness goes, but their "lazy phone" and "moto maker" ad campaign is certainly effective. Every employee in the store is looking to acquire one, and being on company lines we don't receive upgrades, we must purchase them at cost. So if multiple knowledgeable people in sales are looking to put down around ~$500 for a phone, you can say with certainty it is a good phone. Google wouldn't make such a large purchase to merely throw away or disband shortly after. Motorola with Google is here to stay.

Good to know! I figured that was the case, but I was just curious if maybe he knew something I didn't haha.
Sorry if this is a repost. But I stumbled upon this deal @ dell.com and was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of it:
16gb black or white Moto X AT&T OFF contract for $205.99.
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...~16749937&nf=262407~0~16749937&s=bsd&~ck=anav
Now I don't know if this is a mistake or not, but I placed the order and it went through. It came out to be $222 shipped...am I missing out on something here?
I even contacted the customer support, and they confirmed it was a special they have with AT&T, but they were unable to tell me any other details, like how long the sale is going on for. The rep did tell me that my order would not ship out until the 15th-ish, while my confirmation email said it would arrive around 11/21/13.
I hope this is legit, as I've already ordered a 32 gb Nexus 5 from Google and will be expecting it soon. But I prefer the form factor of the Moto X, and for that price point, I'm either returning the Nexus, or selling it.

If you're referring to the Dell website, all I did was use my employer's name (I'm guessing you can use any company's name), but the billing and shipping were to my personal card and address. There were no company verification steps or anything like that. BTW, I checked out as a guest, and didn't even create a Dell account.

Nice find!!!! was able to order one and just received confirmation email!
Wow, I just ordered one too. I even picked next day shipping for $21.99 to expedite it.
Only problem was that even though I picked next day air it says delivery estimated on November 19th???
Edit: At this point I'd be happy if it even shows up to my work!
The Moto X they're selling has a different model number since it's made for a business. It's still a moto x obviously but I wonder what different security measures it has. Rooting it may be different since the software may be made more secure for business purposes. Just a wild theory but something to think about.
I ordered a white one and a black one. My wife wants one like mine and I figure I can maybe flip the other on the cheap and still come out with a good deal
Damn, maybe too good to be true! The part number seems to indicate new service on a quick Google search...is there anyway they can restrict a phone to new service/contract activation only?
So, I just gave this a shot and ordered a Black Moto X from Dell. I've just read too many reviews praising the phone and the pricepoint is too tempting to pass up.
I would like to use SmartTalk for this phone if possible. I really hope it works out.
I also really wanted a Droid MAXX for its' incredible battery life, but $206 for a Moto X, yeah, that will work. :good:

$91.45?
It seems odd that there are duplicate listings for the Black and White Moto Xs on Dell. The only difference is the model number, apparently. Something seems wrong. That being said, Dell is pretty good as far as returns go, and I feel like you'd be stupid not to try for a $200 phone here. I'm expecting either a cancellation email or just some weird, $200 accessory to show up at my doorstep in 10 days.
For $200 I bit the bullet and willing to put up with lack of updates and such... this being ATT phone...

Yea, I'm thinking the same thing. On my confirmation email Dell said that they are not responsible for pricing errors, so a cancellation email is very possible especially if large volume of orders are placed. They've already charged my card, and the worst thing that can happen is they refund the $. Besides for $200, why not?
Maybe its supposed to be the Moto G.
No cheap deals on dell.ca...
So like most in this forum, I bought my Nexus 5 directly from the Google Play Store. I chose AT&T as my carrier. When I signed up for the account at the AT&T store, I got the phone insurance to cover me when I inevitably crack the screen or my 3 year old drops the phone into the bath tub. I asked them when I activated the phone if the AT&T insurance covered the phone for replacement even though I did not buy it from them. "Of course!" the salesperson said. Bought the phone at the end of October.
Sure enough, last night my buddy bumped the phone out of my hand, and it dropped about 4 feet to a stone floor face first. Cracked!!! It pained me to see my new phone with a full screen length crack, but I breathed a small sigh of relief knowing I had bought the insurance for just this circumstance. I called AT&T this morning to ask about the claim process and the customer service guy told me he was not sure it was covered because, "The Nexus 5 is not a phone we carry." He advised me to call Asurion Mobile, the AT&T insurance carrier and ask them. When I called Asurion, they confirmed what the AT&T guy said. AT&T does not carry the Nexus 5 and therefore cannot replace one as part of a claim. Instead they said that they would replace the phone with "an equivalent".
I know others probably like those other carriers, but AT&T in Baltimore really does offer way better coverage than those others, even Verizon. Because of this, I would like to stay with AT&T.
I did not talk with Asurion any further, but this presents those of us who bought the phone unlocked and out of contract precisely to avoid the carrier capture relationship with a conundrum on AT&T. The insurance will cover you having a phone on AT&T, just not the one that we all really want. Interestingly T-Mobile and Sprint DO carry the Nexus 5. Am curious if anyone on those carriers has made an insurance claim and they gave you another Nexus 5? And further, if they did, was it unlocked or locked?
Reading another forum, I noted that my credit card my offer purchase protection given that I am (barely) still inside of 90 days. Will be investigating that possibility next.
Phone insurance is really a scam for such a low priced phone as the N5. Self insure and save the $$$

The $150 deductible for Asurion is ridiculous anyway. We just bought a pair of Nexus 5's from T-Mobile, but are holding off on insurance for now. I see Square Trade has insurance for $8 a month, with a $75 deductible -- my wife is a bit careless with the drops, so I was considering them for her phone.
Curious as to what they consider an equivalent. Possibly they replace the phone then you sell it to buy yourself another N5.

does any company do this? i dont get why the OP thought this would work. i get it that the customer service guy gave him the wrong information, but why did the OP expect this enough to even ask them in the first place?
@charmcitybryan - since ATT doesn't carry the Nexus 5, it makes sense that they can't replace your phone with the same one. You could do what @sprof suggested - and get the replacement they offer, and sell it and buy a N5 then.
Depending on when you bought your phone, and whether you used a credit card with accident protection, you may be covered by your credit card (check with your credit card if you used a credit card for the purchase)
If a carrier did somehow replace the N5, it will be unlocked (even if they somehow figured out a way to lock it - which they won't, unlocking it is as easy as flashing the stock image from Google).

Well...that $8 a month might not sound like a month, but consider this...
Let's say she has the phone for a year. Month 12, she breaks it. Boom, in theory you pay $75 and you get a new phone. You can't ignore the $96 you've also already paid. And then you have the situation of having the insurance, but for some reason they don't decide to honor the claim. (let's ignore that for the sake of argument though)
Even if you break it on month 1, you're paying $83.
Assuming you have the 32G version...does the ratio of that $83 vs. the replacement cost of the phone REALLY make mathematical sense to you factoring in the odds of her breaking the phone?
It almost never does. Just saying!
Also...here's the best part....Take the price of this phone, and compare it to the price of other comparable phones. It's seriously about half as much as them, if you are considering the TRUE cost, ie: no contract price.
Take that extra $350 or so and save it. If you get your phone stolen or you throw it at someone in a fit of drunken rage...you can buy a new phone.
If that doesn't happen...You still have that $350!
Went from a Note 3 returned it to buy Nexus 5, cancelled my insurance because I knew AT&T would not carry it. Call Google get an RMA they should be able to replace it since we have a 1yr warranty.

I'm shocked they even offered to replace it with an equal valued device. Not to sound hard to the op but I figured it would go without saying that a device not sold by Att wouldn't be covered through their insurance. Take the replacement and sell it for another n5.

I'm just curious what equal value phone the OP will get. Nothing is really equal when it comes to specs with that price. Moto x costs more but lower in specs. I just hope that OP will get something that's equal in specs not in costs.

This is exactly why I love these forums! Great idea on getting the replacement and then selling to get another N5. Will definitely now start a claim to see what equivalent phone they will provide. Like another post said, I hope they provide equivalent specs, not equivalent cost given what a great value our phone is.
On the posts questioning why I thought AT&T would replace the phone in the first place, it's a fair question. I honestly have never used phone insurance before. My first mistake was believing the salesperson. Bummer, but that's life. I knew at the time that AT&T did not carry the phone, but was guessing the business model of the insurance would be as fine with providing cash so I could just get a replacement as they would providing a replacement phone. Always read the fine print and all that I guess. Another good option is just sending the phone in to LG for a screen replacement. I have read in other threads that may actually cost less than the deductible to replace the whole thing.
On the economics of cell phone insurance vs. self insuring given the cost, I found this article on Lifehacker that does a nice summary of the plans that are out there. Do a quick google search for it.
I think the argument that the high cost does not justify the benefit is particularly interesting now that many of us have the phone out of 2 year contracts and paid a low price for a great product. Aren't we all likely to jump at the next Nexus that comes out in a year? If so, as time approaches the next release, the value of replacing the phone we have goes down significantly.
In fact, given this, it would seem only to make sense to get phone insurance (if one wanted it) that provides a cash payout of the purchase price of the phone. Because the price of our phone is less, the premium would be lower and possibly a better cost benefit equation.
Equivalent phone to me would be a 5", snapdragon 800, 1080p display, lte and unlocked.

Has anyone heard anything on the Nexus 6 at Best Buy? If this is an option, any one going this route?
I have a Best Buy card and I am considering getting the Nexus 6 from Best Buy if the option is there. I believe it's is 0% interest if you pay it off within a year's time from purchase. Plus you get rewards for using your Best Buy card.
Havent heard anything from them yet.
I want to go through best buy too since I am the elite plus member and I have some GC to use.
I assume they should get it on the 12th too though...
You can't ask B B either because they can only look at the same website you look at.....
I did see one of the Google pages that had the white Nexus 6 for sale showing a bunch of greyed out logos indicating where the phone would be available, one of which was Best Buy. Worth watching.
My best buy said they probably wouldn't get any at all so we will see
Quite a few rumors of them selling it, plus they sell for the big 3 carriers so I imagine they would have to. They already have the nexus 9 listed up, so I bet they'll get the 6 too.
I'm currently with T-Mobile and they are only going to carry the Midnight Blue. I plan just to buy the white from Best Buy with my Best Buy card then take it to T-Mobile for their service. Best Buy has told me they will carry the phone but they do not have a date. Hope that Best Buy gets the Cloud White!

You have to be careful on who to ask when it comes to stock on some devices at BB locations. A few of the ones I traveled to had Apple Product Salespeople hanging around the cellphone department acting as they work in the department but are simply trying to do whatever they can to pull you towards interest of an iPhone. They would tell me when I ask about the stock of the Nexus 5 and the coming stock of the Nexus 6 "We do not carry T-Mobile devices" in which I just walk away from them and try to get the attention of a proper employee of the department.
It amazes me the ignorance of some sales people considering that they sold the Nexus devices contract free. It makes me wonder where the hell they pull these people from.

They're underpaid workers who are not techies. Anyone who knows, really knows, anything about computers or electronics finds a much better job than BestBuy.
Always been that way.
im on verizon unlimited everything.. i am going the BB rout too. pay with my BBcard.. i hope BB gets it on launch date. just like the N9

Yep. That's like asking the guy stocking cough syrup at the grocery store about medicine...
Don't expect him to know anymore than you, and in reality he probably knows far less.
He's essentially the best warm body they could get for what they pay, which isn't much.
I was just given this information. I can't provide source due to this person could be an employee of Best Buy. How much of this is a fact, I don't know.. I did cut out one line to help protect this person if it is legit.
This is what I was told;
""""I dug through some employee systems and found the nexus 6 listed on AT&T at full retail of $649.99 with a street date listed as 11/21. So it should be in stock there or shortly after.
No other carriers in best buy at the moment. I forgot the sku but I'll find it for you again when I work.""""
and now its known.. http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-6-best-buy-release-566428/
Thank you for this. I've been calling maybe every other few days and asking their reps here and I've even gotten "I didn't even know there was Nexus 6". One even asked me if I ment the 9. We don't have a T-Mobile here in Alaska so options here are scarce...
So i'm thinking about selling my nexus 6 on a facebook community buy/sell.
I usually give my devices to my family, but its not needed this time so i'm after some opinions on how much i should be asking for.
The phone is 3-4 months old, i lost the reciept recently but its around somewhere... 32GB, bought outright, so unlocked from any network, in perfect working condition. etc, there's just like maybe, 5 to 6 tiny little dints in the screen from keys in pocket :/. You literally cannot feel them, nor see them when the screen is on and takes certain angles to see them when screen is off (thats the only thing wrong with the phone, which i plan on telling on my post). I paid $876 AUD, do you think i could ask for $400-$500?
Opinions? If you were going to resell, what circumstances would you lower the price for & if you were i, how much would you ask for?
amazon is selling the n6 brand new at 399 for the 32gb version, so your $400-500 would be considered a joke, especially a device with a little bit of damage.
@rhystagram,
Your best bet is to go to Swappa.com and look at recent sold prices.

But Amazon is still selling it for much cheaper brand new. Most prospective buyers will look on Amazon first to see what prices are for both new and used.
What local retailers sell them for brand new means nothing when it can easily be attained somewhere else for a cheaper price.
I normally give people hell on those Facebook groups for asking entirely too much for a phone or tablet. Especially if it is used with even the slightest damage.
For instance, a woman was trying to sell a Droid Maxx for almost $400 USD claiming it was new and never pulled from the box, but her pictures clearly showed otherwise because of the damage on the phone and the fact that it didn't have any of the factory protective film on it anymore. The device in mint condition used only goes for about $150.
Basically, it's better to be fair instead of thinking you can charge top dollar for it. Much less troubles in the long run.
Good luck.

I'm sorry, but how is pointing out the proper process for preparing a Nexus 6 for resale completely missing the point? I'm trying to help you avoid future headaches. ???
If you're looking for resale prices, check completed listings on swappa or eBay.

I agree with checking eBay or local buy/sell/trade sites for prices to get a feel for how much it will cost.
Note this, however: Amazon Australia does not sell the Nexus 6 that I can find. It is true that there was a Prime Day deal today in the states for it (pretty sure it's over now), but Prime Day is only for the US site, not for the international versions.
Plus $500 AUD is $368 ish USD.
Mate. Put it on Gumtree. You could likely get around 400 to 450 bucks for it if it is indeed in the condition you say.
